Upper Body Workout 5 – Biceps Exercises

Side lunge concentration curl:

1. Keep your knees and toes facing forward and your knee directly over your heel

2. Your elbow should rest into the side of your thigh

3. When contracting your biceps bring the dumbbell towards your shoulder

Hammer curls:

1. Hold the dumbbells with your palms facing in

2. Your elbows remain at your side at all times

3. Keep your shoulders back and down

4. Move the dumbbells down in controlled movement

5. Don’t swing the weights up

Enjoy,

Zuzana.

    Zuzana,

Can you please tell us why the side lunge is needed for the concentration curl? Does it bring in other muscles that are useful or something?

  • Zuzana – BodyRock.Tv

The side lunge brings more challenge to this exercise and it works also the stabilizing muscles in this case muscles of core, legs and glutes.

Hi Zuzana, I would like to ask you about breathing during the exercises. I have always been told that I should breath out(exhale) on exertion and inhale on the return. I keep noticing that you hold your breath on exertion and breath out on the return. Does it really matter or make much difference?

  • Zuzana – BodyRock.Tv

As a general rule and especially for beginners, you should indeed learn to exhale on exertion and inhale on the return. I have been always paying attention to that until I have learned that breathing should be more natural when you are exercising. For most people is natural to hold their breath briefly when lifting heavy weights. What happens when you hold your breath like this is that your torso gets rigid and more stable. Actually you can read more about it in this article.
    Best,
    Zuzana.

Hi Zuzana, I want to know how many times a week we must work the biceps. And how I can develop my arms veins?

  • alina

Hey zuzana, I need ur feedback/ advice: You see, my goal is to get a bit “cut” on my arms; I don’t want to build on too much muscle mass on my upper body. question about the weights & reps I’m doing:

Should i continue to do 8-10 reps) & 3 sets & (5-10lbs on triceps, 15-25 on bicep curl).

Or should I increase my reps & decrease the weight?

    Thanks in advance.
    P.S. AWESOME WORKOUTS!!!

  • Zuzana – BodyRock.Tv

    Hi Alina,

heavy weight is not what creates big muscles a specially on girls. It is your caloric intake what makes your muscles bigger or smaller. So to have a nice tight body without being bulky you have to lift heavy and watch your diet.

  • Roger

You should make a video of making one of your videos.

  • Shelly

    Hey Zuzanna,
I just started working out again, i just had a question about the resting periods, and what’s a common workout routine of the week, like 3days a week? I’ve been reading up on tips, and i’ve been seeing rest is a importan role in working out. Was just wondering if u could give me a general answer about that, thx.

i have been carry weights for about a year an a half. the problem is, they are getting bigger as expected but not toned up. I tried doing push ups coz i heard it helps to tone and lean them up but no results are seen. I am still doing the weights coz i need the strength for my rowing. A lot of ppl as me to carry lighter weights but that won’t be training on strength aleady. Please help. Thanks.

  • :)

  • Miriam

Hi Zuzana! Love your workouts! & I absolutely adore the way you look! I can honestly say you have been a motivation for my best friend and I, ever since we saw your videos for the first time last week!
Our question is: Do you work on these upper body workouts(back, chest, bicep, tricep & shoulders) everyday??? we would really like to know. We workout everyday, for example, one day we’ll do chest(bench-press 65 pounds) & triceps, next day:back & bicep, the following day: Shoulders& Legs/butt & we’ll do a few sets of abs every other day, also we lift from 15-20 pounds(free-weights)& do 3 sets of (12-15 reps)…we are noticing slow results & we are getting stronger(since we started lifting 5pound dumbells about 4 months ago)but we want to see faster results…what do you recommend? We would really appreciate your response. Thanks!! :)

  • Malerie

    Hey Zuzana,
I love your videos and workout tips, and all the travel vlogs that you and Freddy do and I just wanted to say thanks! Also, how long did it take for you to tone your muscles up like that? I find the hardest thing about working out is not seeing the results right away. Thanks again!
