I have costochondritis and I am not able to lift weights, not even light ones, as my chest and back are always in a lot of pain and are very sensitive. Are there any alternatives to lifting weights?

hi zuzana,
ive heard that running is quite a good cardio exercise so im interested in practicing it along with skipping.. but the problem is i dont have access to a park where i can run n my neighbourhood rescrits me to( for a couple of reasons). so i was wondering if i could walk or probably run up n down a flight of stairs for like 15 to 30 mins with regular intervals? does that sound too bad (or stupid rather :P)
ive seen a few ppl do it so thought i could give it a shot.. my goal is losing some fat n toning my body..
thanks alot :)

Zu,

I just wanted to thank you for all the time you have put into this site. I can see your passion for fitness. I wanted to say that I have been very active my whole life - a true athlete at heart. However, when I got to college 5 years ago I put the freshman 15 on and ever since, have been working hard to get my body back into the shape I was before, especially my endurance level. I have been training hard, and am currently 23 yrs old, 5ft 8, 148 pounds and 20% body fat (healthy %). When I was leaving the gym today, a girl who was working out next to me asked me if i knew good workouts to get rid of love handles and I was very flattered because I believe she approached me because she saw how hard I worked and the shape my body was in due to your great information on this site as well as others. I told her about your site and hopefully shell browse around. I would like to get down to 17% fat and wish I had a Zuzana to work out with! I love having someone to do it with to push me beyond my current limits. Ill keep in touch with my progress. I dont know how long that will take but patience is key!
