BodyRock Boot Camp Workout 6: Santana Push Ups

The Santana push up is a great core exercise, and I thought that you might use some of the following tips for this exercise. When you lift one arm towards the ceiling, your arms should be in one line, your upper body, hips and legs rigid, with your weight on the edges of your shoes. Your knees should be straight and your legs and shoulders contracted and your abs engaged. Your hands and feet should be slightly wider than shoulder width apart. This exercise is very challenging and since I was already tired from the previous exercises, I was able to perform the Santana push up only 8 times out of the 12 that I was aiming for. Because this is the final exercise in this workout it’s only normal that you will feel tired at this point, but even if you can’t hit the full amount of reps it’s important that you are making your muscles  work hard through each of the exercises while always maintaining a proper form.

Best,

Zuzana

Zuzana! I stumbled across your website somehow when I was on YouTube and I just have to tell you how much you’ve inspired me! I love your work outs and I plan to lose up to 60 lbs using many of the techniques and work outs you’ve provided. I’m really excited and grateful for what you’re doing here… So many people charge crazy money for providing the instruction you’re giving for free. Fitness shouldn’t be a privilege. Thanks so much for all your help and efforts!

P.S. I tried to join this community but I can’t figure it out. Can you help me with that?

  • Wendy

Cannot wait to try this with my sculpt class tonight! Love the Santana Push-ups…

    Zuzana,

What an amazing website! I found the site this morning and tried all 6 parts of the bodyrock boot camp during my lunchtime work out. I did all the exercises consecutively and then repeated it 3 times. I consider myself to be in good shape, but the boot camp really kicked my @$#! Amazing, amazing workout. I even received a few “respect” head nods from some of the trainers at the gym as I was completing my reps. They seem to recognize my workout as serious business. I am definitely going to try more of your workouts in the near future.

Can you recommend a weekly routine that incorporates the workouts on your website? I would really like to develop an action plan heading into the summer.

  • Zuzana – BodyRock.Tv

    Hi DAL,

Welcome to the site and thanks for the comment. I think that you should just look through the workouts on the site and choose what ever you like and whatever you think would be the most suitable for your fitness level. I think that you must be in pretty good shape if you have done the last boot camp workout 3x in a row and have survived :) I am constantly adding new workouts and because I totally fell in love with the more challenging workouts such as the boot camp, I will be adding those more often. I had to finish the full body core workout because we didn’t shoot it in one go and you can not imagine how bored I was. I mean it’s a great workout for a beginner and a lot of people out there need something like this, but it doesn’t kick my @$# :) You seem to be more in the challenging workouts like me so you have to definitely check back for the new boot camp which will be up in the next few days.

    Hy Zuzana,
I was wondering if it’s possible to ask you questions on your e-mail because something is happening with this site or my computer and I can’t post comments always, please let me know if it possible on my e-mail

  • John

I stumbled on your website through YouTube…great site!!! I enjoyed watching the videos, no nosense, to the point. I am going to try to incorporate some of them into my personal workout. I am having prolbems with my hips and left knee, don’t have much flexibility, but I’ll do as much as I can. I did’t see anything with a phisio ball, do you use one at all?
Thanks you…keep up the terrific job and I wish you well.
    John

  • Natram

it was great eventhough, you beat me through it!!! lol But I’m going to still keep trying till i fully complete it. I went through the six steps but i lost with the squats and stuff, i think i should try it with lighter dumbbells. I have eight pounds and three pounds but i find the three pounds too light for me.

  • Harriet

    Hi Zuzana,

I was wandering how to target the muscle that is next to the arm pit area near your back , as my arms are really getting into chape but am still struggling with this area… I have access to the gym so wanted to know how exercise I can do at the gym and at home. thanks :):):)

  • Zuzana – BodyRock.Tv

HI Harriet, all of the following exercises will help you to strengthen your upper body: pull ups, push ups, pull overs, clean and press, bent over rows. That’s not a complete list, but this should give you the idea.

  • Kat

First of all: thank you for this website. I’ve incorporated a lot of your workouts into my daily routine and seen some incredible results for the lackluster effort I put forth ;-).
Anyways, would you consider the bootcamp workouts cardio or strength training?

  • Zuzana – BodyRock.Tv

Hi Kat, cardio and strength training are both essential and you should incorporate both into your exercise program.

Great series. I’ll have to give it a try. Think I’ll use my pull up bar instead of the ropes. Don’t know why but that looks painful to me on my wrists. Of course I don’t use gloves either. Appreciate you pushing yourself for us.

I just want to thank everyone involved in the production of these demonstrations. I am grateful for your hardwork and dedication. Zuzana, I was getting tired of fighting over the weights and machines in the gym and was always concerned that I couldn’t handle my own mass adequately, your workouts have already shown me how deficient I am. I thank you and look forward to your continuing success as a trainer and fitness model.

    Hey Zuzana,
I have a question. Did this bootcamp routine get alot easier for you over time? If so, how big is the change? I think it’s interesting to know where you’re at with certain workouts that I find to be challenging–just like this one :) oh and wow! I think your 2nd K.A. workout challenge is by far one of the MOST challenging routines ever!! Well, at least for the first try. Thank you so much for all your hard work!

  • http://www.bodyrock.tv/ Zuzana – BodyRock.Tv

    Hi E.E.,
this bootcamp workout got easier for me over some time, and that’s why it is good to switch to a different workouts for a month or so, because when you come back to this workout, it will be almost like a new challenge for you again.

  • E.E.

thank you for your response! :> i’ve been changing the routines very consistently because you’re so good at updating your site. but yes–switching it up even after a week seems like I’m starting a new challenge. And your motto about working out short/intensively, and often really does make the body stronger

  • Lucka Mantra

How many times a week would you recommend doing this workout?

  • Zaga

Hi again!!! As a fan I will keep posting!!! Is there a forum or somewhere to track the progress, upload pictures and or videos???

I have a great question, I have always had problems with push ups, I can’t simply do one complete, which kind of exercises will help me doing them? I tried ths exercise by doing baby push ups, but even that way was very challenging for me =(. I work everyday one or two of your daily rutines… my arms burn and are heavy the next day, but seems not to becoming stronger =(.
Well, anyway, I’m keeping in the way for a best life :D

Thank you again Zuz and Fred :D

    Hello zuzana,

I’ve been really wanting to do the exercises that you have taught here. I really want to get toned arms and overall body. But my concern is that whenever I do hard exercise, I notice that my shoulders become broad with respect to my waist and hips… I tend to broaden my shoulders easily and I am a girl.. I notice that you have maintained the proportion of your shoulder to your waist and hips even tho u have the muscles, would you happen to know how I could do exercise without broadening?

    I am a big fan.

    Sincerely yours,
    VS

  • http://www.bodyrock.tv/ Zuzana – BodyRock.Tv

    Hi VS,

I am not sure what do you mean exactly. Are you bulking up too much on your shoulders?

  • VS

    Hello Zuzana.

Yes. And I am afraid that if I continue to exercise, I’ll end up being top heavy…
Mmy arms tend to bulk up faster that the rest of my body so I lose proportion.
So now I am forced to exercise just my legs just to keep the proportion.
But I really really want to have toned arms without the wide shoulder.
What can I do? Maybe I am executing the exercises improperly?

    Thanks so much!

    Sincerely yours,
    VS

  • http://www.bodyrock.tv/ Zuzana – BodyRock.Tv

    Hi VS,

the truth about muscle gain is that you can not gain muscles and get big simple just from exercising. You can have a body part that tents to bulk up more then the rest of your body, but you would still have to really feed your muscles to get them bulky. Especially as a woman is it hard to gain muscles and get bulky without eating a lot. Which means that you should watch how much do you eat and if you could cut down on your portions.

I am feeling so inspired and started today. This site is now becoming my life – please keep the workouts coming. I just love it.

Hey Zuzana:You have quite useful and handy workout routines there. I like various of them.Do you have anything for power training and body conditioning for combat sports.

You are very sweet and strong at the same time.
Really appreciate for assistance. Also, do you have a cell phone number for guidance at times.
