Boot Camp Circuit Workout 1: Dumbbell Overhead Squats

This exercise routine is a really intensive fat burning workout for advanced fitness buffs.  This workout will boost your metabolism and sculpt your muscles all in just 20 minutes. You will need to set your clock for 20 minutes and go through all 6 exercises in the circuit as many times as you can. The next time you do this workout try to beat your personal record.

This exercise is very challenging for coordination, flexibility and strength and it will also improve your agility.

Stand with your feet little bit wider than shoulder width apart and your arm with the dumbbell extended over your head. Squat down until your other hand touches the floor – that is the hardest part. Keep the dumbbell over your head and arm extended and get back up to the starting position. This exercise works your abs, core, legs and shoulders.

Best,

Zuzana.

    Hy Zuzana,
I’ve just have to say how great your boost camps are :) ! With your help I’ve quit smoking, and I have been exercising 6 times a week and eating clean. I have a question; are boot camp and cardio Tabata style independent exercises, or do I have to do weight training before?
    Thank you,
    Iva

    Hi Zuzanna,
Are you taking courses with ISSA?

  • Angeline

    Hi Zuzana,
How heavy are your dumbbells? I just bought a pair of 2kg ones. Are they suitable for this circuit?
    Thanks.

    Regards,
    Angeline

  • Zuzana – BodyRock.Tv

Yes I am taking courses with ISSA.

  • Zuzana – BodyRock.Tv

Hi Iva the boot camp and Tabata style cardio are stand alone workouts.

  • Zuzana – BodyRock.Tv

Hi Angeline, you should have several pairs of dumbbells from light to heavy. You can start just with light weights for this workout and as you progress, increase the weight slightly every time you make a progress. The main focus in the circuit is to go through the 6 exercises as many times as you can. Increasing the weight gives it an extra challenge.

    Hi Zuzana,
    i’m 18,in a good shape but i’m pretty skinny… i don’t want to get too bulky
just grow some muscle (brad pitt style)
are the routines on this website good for this reason?
also, when I try to do squats i don’t feel my hamstrings and glutes, instead i feel burning in my quads. what am i doing wrong?

  • Zuzana – BodyRock.Tv

Hi Mark, you won’t get bulky from following my workout routines. When you do your squats, make sure that you have a good form. You should squat down to get your thighs at least parallel to the floor. Your knees should be over your toes but not but not further. Don’t round your back and keep your chest up.

hi zuzana, first of all excuse me for my english, but i’m italian..i go to gym and i alternate normal weight-exercise with a kick-boxing training..but i saw 2 days ago this website and i can say that i totally love this way of training, specially because i have a lot of endurance(or stamina i don’t know the perfect word)…in this way, would i be in overtraining ,if i will make these exercise at home when i can?

  • Viviana

    Hi Zuzana,
I’ve noticed this 20-minute-routines pattern on your workouts. Is there a particular reason why you choose this amount of time? How does this method (20 minutes only) compare to other routines you have posted on your website, in which you are not limiting your time, but rather your limits are set by your endurance? (like your body rock bootcamp workout, where you say to do the circuit twice OR three times, if you can) Thanks.

  • jessica

hi zuzana, I want to lose my stomach, but build muscule in my butt, how do I do this?

  • Dionne

Hi Zuzanna, I really love you workouts and am really getting into shape. The only problem is I am living in China and youtube is blocked! so all the videos you have uploaded recently I cant watch:( this really really sucks! the ones on viddler are fine. Any advice? I really want to do the bootcamp workout!
    Thanks in advance from Beijing!

Hi Dionne, we will start to upload the videos on viddler again so that you can follow the workouts. We will start to do that tomorrow. It might take some time to upload them all so be patient.

Hello Suzana, I love this bootcamp circuit series. it takes little time and it is so intense, I feel exhausted after I’m done. Do you have any plans on making more or updating this one? I am currently doing the rock your body series three times a week. I now have enough endurance, I want to try five times a week. in one of your text explanations you mentioned heavy and light days of working out, If I’m doing the rock your body series, would this circuit boot camp be considered a light or heavy? or are they both heavy or light? Please help.

  • http://www.bodyrock.tv/ Zuzana – BodyRock.Tv

    Hi Rey,
both of these workouts are designed to be challenging. You have to listen to your body. Ask yourself a simple question: ”what would be a light workout for me?” Maybe you will do the same exercises but use less weight or do less sets. Maybe you can do some aerobic activity or have an active rest and go play tennis or golf. There are many options for a light workout, you just have to ask yourself the right question.

    Hello Suzana,(Coach)
Wow. You and this website has exceeded all of my expectations. The quick responses, all the reference material, the videos, and the “kick in the butt” replies to keep me motivated. THANK YOU.

  • Rey

    Hello Coach,
I just want to say thank you for getting me ask myself the right question about what is a light and heavy workout and mixing the two to avoid burnout. Its been close to a month now and the results have been fantastic. I take yoga class and swim on my light days at the gym and I have been getting so many compliments on my results, I tell them thank you, then I say its all your fault, and give them your website address. One question, Do you have any videos with streching routines or yoga?

  • ivan

hi zuzana i love your site thank you for these workouts. will you do more videos incorporating the jump rope and if you can do a tutorial on the different variations that would be so helpful. i can’t even do the high knees on a jumprope. lol

god bless and thanks for all the hard work!
