Boot Camp Circuit Workout 2: Spike press Exercise

The spike press is great foundation for more challenging exercises like hand stand or hand push up – which is one of my goals. I can do a hand stand against the wall, but I can’t do the push up. I also want to be able to do the handstand without the wall support.  So this exercise is really a good way to strengthen your upper body, core and hips. Start in push up position and walk your hands backwards and lift your hips up. Keep your knees straight and don’t round your back. In this position do push ups bringing your forehead down towards the floor.

Best,

Zuzana.

    Zuzana,

This new series is just awesome! I am so impressed with the combination of exercises you are choosing.

I do handstand pushups against a wall- still straight up and down which is better for your spine and am working towards doing them free standing (like you are) without falling on my ass:)and then doing them with my hands raised up on phone books to increase the range of motion/ difficulty (you can use push-up bars too if you have them, I don’t).

A tip for doing them against the wall, face the wall and then flip up into the top position and hold this position for as long as you can (static position for time, just like wall sits, it works really well). Also, when you do start doing handstand pushups against a wall wear socks (not bare feet or runners) so the back of your heels can slide easily against the surface of the wall, the less friction the better.

Your site just gets better and better…

    Zuzana,

Have you always looked like this, fit and toned…or were you in a different shape before? and if you were in a different shape, how long did it take you to get this physique? (sorry for being cheeky, but do you have any before pix of you? :o) )

    Thank you.

    Zuzana….

Where do you get your exercises from…. my trainer thinks they are made up… but I like how alot of them involve balance and your whole body….

Hi, i’ve been trying hand stands for 2 weeks and i can even balance without the wall, but whenever i try it,the blood goes down to my head and i feel that it’s gonna blow. same with this exercise, so i can barely hold on for 10-15 secs. do u have any suggestions?

  • Mark

Practice, that’s the only way you get better. I am trying the hand stand as well, but can’t balance without the wall yet.

I am constantly looking for new exercises, I didn’t make any of them up. If I did I would call them after myself :)

  • Zuzana – BodyRock.Tv

HI London, I was heavier and I got in shape in quite a short period of time. Getting slimmer is easier than getting stronger tho. I have pictures from before, but I don’t really want to show them to anyone :) I prefer to show of when I am in shape.

  • Alberto

Hi Zuzana, and Mark also, I practice Breakdance and I can hold my handstand for quite long, if I can be of any help just leave me a message I will be glad to give some tips

  • Mark

Hi Alberto, i could surely use some tips. please relate to my first comment
i also like breakdance :) i can already do the basic freezes but i dunno how to start off the one handed freezes, the airchair or the pike… any advise?

  • Alberto

Mark, for the airchairs fist start doing the chair freeze that is basically a one handed turtle freeze, when you are ale to hold that freeze the time you want, you will start to to that same freeze but instead of putting your elbow on your abs you will put it on the side of your hip, you need to find a point of balance there
and when you dominate that freeze you will start turning your body so your elbow rests at your lower back and that’s the airchair,
I recommend also trying the airchair holding a chair with your free hand
so you will gain flexibility at your shoulder and find the point of balance.
And for the handstands I think that you feel that all your blood goes to your head because you are not breathing properly
you need long and deep breaths in order to hold the handstand longer

    Hi, Zuzana
I,yai, yai is all I can say after doing these spike presses, you definitely put the WORK in my workout, Thank you for sharing, and keep up the good work.

  • Ron

    Hi!

You are doing a great job in presenting the various ways of getting in shape, I know I need to get there, and Im working on it. I need to get up my flexibility and strength in particular. I was wondering however if yoga was a good way of doing this, and if so, where your yoga videos are? :) Do I have to become a member or something like that?

Thanks and keep up the pace! :)
