New Rock Your Body 6: Lunge Exercises

This is part 6 of the new Rock Your Body Workout and in my opinion this one is the hardest exercise combo of this workout, so be ready to sweat a lot.

I want to remind you of the importance of short rest periods between the sets in order to boost your metabolism and get you fit. Compressing your rest intervals is an important component of effective endurance training and fat loss. Keep your rest periods somewhere between 30 to 90 seconds and don’t get too passive during your break.  Go to have a sip of water and walk around a little to help your heart.

Vince Delmonte the author of one of the most popular fitness programs online says in his No nonsense 6 pack quest e-book: ”I want to elaborate on the power of shorter rest intervals, which I believe is the most underestimated variable to maximize metabolism and build muscle. Whether you are training for muscle or fat loss, I can’t recall the last time I saw someone in the gym training with any degree of oxygen debt, or sucking in air, as I prefer to call it. What you do see are people sitting on the bench looking around, chatting up a storm, or talking on their cell phone. It amazes me how many people expect to transform their body without sweating and going into any oxygen debt during their workout.”

I have never said that getting into the best shape of your life is going to be easy.

    You might want to look into getting a stainless steel water bottle. The plastic ones are reported to leak toxic and estrogenic compounds into the water, especially if the bottle is heated or reused a lot.
    What was the weight of the dumbells you used on these lunges?

    Love the routine!!! Should I follow the same concept as the previous excercises of this “New Rock Your Body Workout” 3 sets of the entire combo which will equal to 90 lunges? Thanks for sharing your routines and inspiring others.

    Hi Tania, it is the same concept. You do 3 sets of 40 lunges total – because you will alternate your legs.

    Hi Zuzana!! i know you once mentioned in your videos that you’ve always liked your shoulders. haha that is the first thing that stood out to me when i saw your workouts! This may be silly–but did you always have rather nicely shaped shoulders? :) (btw, i’m a female, i think from previous comments my questions were ambiguous and one couldn’t tell what i was haha, now it’s clear.) wow my body has gotten so strong from your workouts. it really seems to be true when people say that alternating and changing up different types of w.outs leads to greater results. have a beautiful day!

    Thank you for always responding to our questions. Looking forward to the rest of the excercises in this segment. I have been doing your excercises for the past 3 weeks and am seeing a visible change. Based on all your routines, how would you compile a workout for the week. For example Rock your body on day 1, cardio and core on day 2, etc… Please give me some ideas on which are your favorite routines and how you would work around them. Thanks a million!!!

    Zuzana,
    I love your workouts they are new, exciting, and challenging. I like to sit down and watch the videos before i go to the gym so that they are fresh in my mind.
    I would like to suggest one thing, when doing workouts about the lower body could the camera PLEASE focus more time on that part of the body and not just from your waist up! Or have the camera positioned to see your entire body so that we can see the proper form.

    I love your work outs! It’s the level I’m looking for especially since i’ve been doing the same routine for years and it’s become mediocre and boring. One thing I’d like to suggest though is that you point out which muscle you’re working out because i sometimes would like to target a certain muscle, which you do sometimes, but it would really help when you do it in all your videos. Again, thank you for sharing your work out videos. I can’ wait to get started!

    I incorporated lots of your stuff to my workout (and nutrition). Basically, I’m doing the New Rock Your Body 1-8 with some minor changes concerning weight and reps.

    How often would you recommend doing the whole workout routine per week?
    (male, 85kg (187lbs), 184cm (~6ft), ~15% body fat)

    Hi Martin, if you want to workout every day, then vary your workouts. Read the text that comes with part 7 of the new rock your body workout and use your good judgment.

    Hi Zuzana,

    I am a mother of 3 and I sometimes exercise but I lack motivation. I have been going to walk every morning for about an hour. I would like for you to recommend me some back exercises because I have fat on my upper back. Its where your arm and back connect and just underneath my bra. I have tried latpull downs but have seen no results. I am not fat it is just that this area is beginning to bother me alot because it is very noticable. Any information will be greatly appreciated.

    I also forgot to mention that I have a knee injury and cant do squats or lounges. I have the LegMagic, but I would like for you to recommend me how else I could work out my thighs and butt without putting so much pressure on my knee.

    HI Vanessa, I don’t feel comfortable to recommend you any exercises since I have no idea what kind of injury you have and what you doctor recommended you to do or what you should avoid at all cost.

    Hi Zuzana, Sorry I wasn’t more informative about my injury. You see I got injured while playing basketball back in high school, so I really haven’t been to the doctor for this injury. It hadn’t bothered me before, but lately I noticed that when I exercise it will hurt the next day. When it hurts I put a knee brace and that will do. Last time I went to the doctor for this injury he just told me not to put so much pressure on my knee. I noticed it hurting after I did The Firm videos. So really the only way it would hurt is if I do squats or lunges.

    Hi Vanessa, so your knee basically hurts every time you bent your knee? I think you should visit a physiotherapist and work with him until your knee is healed. You have to be able to bent your knees in your everyday life.

    I agree with Ravi, I think its 3 sets of 30 reps, you forgot one. here’s my outline from the video above:
    lunge forward and back
    half squat, lunging back
    lunge position – fast down;slow up
    and the fourth????? Well I added the overhead lunge (if there is such a thing :D or you may add the rotate lunge)

    Hi ! I love this workout .. it kills but feels so good. Question, is it 3 sets of 40 for each exercise ( like the back and forth lunge, then the single lunge, then the lunge when you slowly come up) or is it 3 sets of 40 total. so one set of 40 for each exercise equaling three sets of 40 total ? because that makes a big difference. – either 120 total or 360 total

    please keep this going. its amazing. can you add more nutrition if you have time – more in terms of when to eat what for the 6 small meals a day. thanks :)

    I know this is like, a year too late, but I saw some people saying they think you only did 3 sets of 30 reps. I think the problem is when you did the half squat/lunging back move, you did 10 reps on each leg but didn’t specify that. I think people don’t realize that this exercise makes up 20 of the 40 reps, not 10 of 30.

    Hope that makes sense to anybody confused and that I helped a little! :D

    This is a great workout for a day you want to do a longer workout and something a bit different than the usual…
