New Rock Your Body 7: Shoulder exercises

One of the frequently asked questions I get is how often should you train to loose fat and get in the best possible shape. Numerous experts in fitness and conditioning strongly believe that frequent training such as daily at varying intensity, is more effective than infrequent high intensity training.

One of my favorite authors, Master of Sports and a former physical training instructor for Soviet Special Forces Pavel Tsatsouline, says in one of his amazing books: ”Anyone who claims that you can’t train a muscle group two days in a row is seriously disturbed. Ditto for the high-intensity cult that denies the value of a light workout.”

Light workouts are important for the training process – the more often you exercise the stronger and fitter you get. Another great benefit of light workouts is that it will help you to get rid of the muscle soreness after your heavy workout day. According to Pavel, the key to successful frequent training is constant variety of the training load: weights, reps, sets, rest periods, tempo, exercise order, exercise selection etc.  Varying the intensity of your workouts from day to day will result in faster progress.

I also like what Matt Furey says in his book Combat Conditioning:
”Take monkeys and other primates … They do the same type of exercises each day and they’re far stronger than human beings…Work some days harder than others, but do something every day.”

Listen to your body and soon you will be able to vary your daily training intensity according to your own instincts.

Best,
Zuzana.

    Hy Zuzana,
your workouts are amazing, trainer who works in a gym where I used to go said that if you keep such a good work they will go out of business ;) ! I have a question; do you do cardio between each of these exercises like in a previous compilation of Rock your body ?
    Best,
    Jessie

  • Sherry

    Hi Zuzana,
Thanks so much for continuing to provide everyone with inspiring and motivational workouts and advice on losing weight and building muscle.
I am a bit lazy and find it a little difficult to remember all the workouts and exercises in them when I want to do them. It becomes a bit tedious to have to look at each video or article again to know what to do. Do you plan to make a summary of all the exercises in each workout? I was trying to figure out the best way to compile the exercises on one sheet of paper so I can look at it while doing any particular workout so I wont waste too much time. Any advice?

    Thanks again,
    Sherry

I started working out on these tips and it is quite interesting.

I have a query on putting on weight.

Do you suggest any exercise which helps to put on weight. I always see something to reduce weight however not to gain.:)

Awaiting that too from ur end

  • Zuzana – BodyRock.Tv

Hi Sherry, we are currently working on an area of the site that will have full length workouts that will be easy to follow with more detailed explanations of each exercise etc. This is something that we are hoping to have soon.

  • Zuzana – BodyRock.Tv

    Hi Ethan,
Thanks for the kind comment I am glad that you are enjoying my videos.

  • Anna

    Hi Zuzanna,

you look amazing – very lean! I would like to ask you – have you, along the way, worked out your ideal diet, your best fuel mix? What are the most important things you have learned diet wise during your six pack quest? Do you eat according to your metabolic type or do you diet?
    Thanks,
    Anna

  • Zuzana – BodyRock.Tv

Hi Anna, the most important thing that I have learned in terms of diet was eating small portions, and clean eating. Counting calories might help others, but it doesn’t work for me. I have learned to listen to my body more carefully.

    Hey Zuzana,

Great new circuit! Always looking forward to the WOW factor you incorporate in all you do. But okay now I am totally confused. In going through your entire site I’ve read many Q&A’s about rest days for muscle recovery.Pleeeease answer my question. The comment on your behalf in the Rock your body #7 states that you can work out the same muscle group consecutively without causing harm to the recovery. Isn’t recovery what will bring about more muscle definition as well as better results (along of course with clean eating)? What I am trying to ask is, can I perform interval training cardio and full body weight training daily but ranging from light to heavy on alternate days and rest one day a week with an activity such as cycling, swimming or yoga? Or should I split my workouts up between upper/lower/cardio? Your comments are greatly appreciated. Thanks again for your site.

  • Zuzana – BodyRock.Tv

HI Tania, the above article answers your questions. You can train daily but how do you split your training is totally up to you. This is why you need a workout log – it is basically your own research. You get the basic information, but you have to find out what works for YOU the best.

  • Fraser

Hey this is the only way I could figure out how to leave a message, through commenting a video. But im a male fitness trainer ISSA certified ( 1 year course) and I have made up many workout routines I would like people to view, more male muslce building workouts though but some for both sex’s which are excellent the gym I workout literally everyone that I have seen more than once has commented or started doing my workouts. Anyway if there is anyway I could get these workouts out there let me know.

    my body type

    4% body fat
    150 pounds

  • Zuzana – BodyRock.Tv

Hi Fraser, I don’t understand what are you asking me. If you want people to see your workouts, why don’t you make a video?

  • shafeeq

Hey zuzana.. nice workout.. totally inspirational.. All the best. Anyway thanks for the FREE video.

  • J

hello zuzana, thanks for sharing with us your rutines

coul you please tell how yo do to have your arms in that way?, the triceps you know? aren’t long down let’s say, (i don’t know exactly how to explain it) and are really well high but not too much, equal your hmm M. deltideus are big and visible, i mean all well defined, so this is the thing; until i know if you do much dumbells, just your cibeps go high, and if you do more is worse and you can’t get that equality, so for the arms, is there something especifically that you do? like elevated push ups like on the workout 5?, and are those the only ecersises you do i mean no gymn? O_O!!?
please if you answer and give a light on it i’ll whorship you more xp, thanks

  • J

oh i just saw some triceps excersises on your 40 minutes workout, sorry xD, well in you they work really well, anyway if you see that oyou can recommend more, excellent, caust i don’t i see them like a difficult zone to improve, and i’m on rally shape, muscles and so not so much, but i wanna be more perfect let’s say and i couldn’t with the triceps ¬¬

    thanks!

  • Rebecca

    hi Zuzana,
when you alternate the overhead presses are you doing 20 lifts total? like lift left arm and then right arm to equal one rep? Or do I count left as one right as two left as three and so on….?
    thanks

  • http://www.bodyrock.tv/ Zuzana – BodyRock.Tv

HI Rebecca, it is 10 reps total for both arms each set of the overhead presses.

  • Sharee

After doing these exercises daily how soon she i start to see results?

  • Tim

Why do you alternate between arms on triceps, dumbbell press, and shouldpress? Is there a benefit over doin both arms at the same times?

  • sameeya

hi Zuzana, thanks for your amazing workout tips.

quick question…what is your definition of a light workout/heavy workout? is the rock your body challenge considered a heavy workout?

    thanks

Discovered your site a week ago been doing workouts everyday alternating with yours P90x and denise austin today I did the rock your body and I was literally cursing at the screen so sorry lol but I got through with it and feel much better very sore and my lungs and feel like I’ve been swiming for hours it is another source of cardio regardless of the weights I was definitely sweating thanks although I only used 3 pound weights each since that’s all I had and I’m a beginner I just upped the reps.

    Thank you for this site!
