How many calories should I consume daily to loose weight?

There are hundreds of equations that you can apply using your weight, height, and body fat percentage to figure out how many calories you should be eating every day to loose fat. However I can tell you from my own experience that any math equation you apply to weight loss doesn’t often equal the reality of day to day life. You have to always adjust your diet so that it will work for YOU.  Instead of getting stressed over counting calories, start establishing some basic healthy eating habits that include portion size control, clean eating, and proper ratios of protein, carbs and fats also known as the 1-2-3 nutritional rule. Basic knowledge of  dietary principles, common sense, and the development of your own body awareness will get you further than any complicated calorie counting scheme.

    how old is Neither Zuzana? and how long has she done fitness work? I 25 I have lived at my gym for 3 years now. started off at 225lb now down to 190 I cant seem to get the last 10 or so lb. I just started using a trainer but he wont to me to bulk up Y I rather slim down.

    I have suffered from anorexia for 7 years… im averaging around 120 lbs now.. im 5 foot 4 .. and im fed up with my life. I hate abusing my body and i want to be healthier. As much as i tried.. i cant loose that fat around my abs. love handles and upper legs.. i think my body is just hanging onto it and wont let it go! But I have decided that enough is enough. How can I get a lean, toned physique like yours without starving myself? i need food… but it scares me. I want to eat though and il do whatever it takes to get the body I want. Your such an inspiration Zuzana for working hard and eating well. What a great roll model. PLEASE HELP. Is there a regime I can start that will give me the body I crave? and also eat healthily

    • Hi Kassia,
      you can’t starve yourself obviously, and especially if you are active. So first thing you should do is to change your diet. Eat clean. Eat small portions and listen to your body. Don’t let your body to be hungry and do not eat too much. Check out How much food is enough I am talking in this video about very simple approach to my diet that works. The second part of your job will be regular exercise. Choose any from my workout routines that suits your fitness level and that makes you want to move. Read the descriptions underneath the videos, fitness tips and F.A.Q., because the more you know about fitness, the easier it will become for you to take care of your own body.

    I need to loose weight but I find it difficult to stop eating :(
    I just can’t stand seeing the food I eat too much and I cant stop myself how can I fix this problem?
    and how can i encourage my self to do exercises?
    I am 81 Kg and 1.64 m what should I do :(

    Dear Kassia,

    I was anorexic for 9 long years and it was`a very lonely and dark period in my life. I was 25 when I started my recovery. What made me fight for my life is not so important, because everyone has their own personal reasons and motivation, for me it was my husband and our mutual desire to have a child so I needed to be healthy and strong. what happens with your body when you are starving it is that it uses all lean muscles and tries to hold on to fat to survive. Metabolic rate goes to minimum and once you start eating you have problems with digesting and you are gaining weight very fast because your body is trying to store fat. You need to take baby steps, start eating small portions like a baby, very light foood and light exercise untill you recover. I takes almost a year untill you can eat and work out like everyone else.
    I hope you will find the strenght within yourself to start this journey and come out as a winner. I started my recovery five years ago, I am a mum now and anorexia is only a memory that makes me apreatiate life and health more. I wish you the same.All the best

    Zuzana, dobrý den! Jak se máte?

    A little tip for your amazing website. It’s “lose” weight, not “loose” weight. :)
    For example:
    1) After eating healthy for 2 weeks my pants became “loose” on me.”
    2) “I need to “lose” weight for my brothers wedding in 2 months.”
