Full Body Blast Workout 1/5

The first combo in this workout is made up of a variation of plank and sumo woodchops. This type of plank is one of the hardest, because it requires not only strength but also balance and inter-muscular coordination. This isometric exercise is very effective for toning your abs because it creates high tension in your midsection. You will be lifting one arm and the opposite leg simultaneously and hold them up for about 3 seconds before you slowly switch to the other side. I am doing 10 reps total alternating the sides.

The sumo wood chop exercise is also a  different variation of the wood chop as you know it. Start by standing with your feet wide apart holding the medicine ball with both hands in front of you and arms extended. Squat down as low as your flexibility allows you and touch the floor with the medicine ball. Rise up and swing the medicine ball above your head keeping your arms extended. Accelerate the movement at the bottom and slow down at the top when you are moving the medicine ball overhead. Do the same thing when you reverse the movement – accelerate at the top and slow down before you touch the ground. This way your abs will have to work really hard and you will give your core an incredible workout. The sumo squat element of this exercise will kick your but and inner thighs. Remember to keep your chest up, your shoulders back and down and your abs contracted. I am doing 20 reps of this exercise, which by the way is a great way to create the after burn effect and push into the oxygen debt zone. Your breathing will start to get heavier just like mine in the video ;). This fires up your metabolism and forces your body to burn fat at a hire rate.

Enjoy,

Zuzana.

    Hy Zuzana,
first of all I have to say that the new look of your site is great!! Second thing; I suppose we have to do some cardio before this exercises to warm up? And also, would you recommend doing cardio after these exercises (after all 5 parts), or for 3 min between each exercises, or even separate them as different exercises ( cardio in the morning and these exercises in the afternoon) ? The thing is that all of your exercises, especially new ones, are so intense and well structured that I suppose they are all combination of cardio and weight, but I’m not an expert, and it seems that you know your stuff ;) ,so it makes me wonder for which of them I have to do additional cardio?
    Keep up the good work!!
    Jessie

    hi zuzana,,

i really enjoy your exercises ,,
they are really very result oriented,,
thank you zuzana your reaaly the best :-D
    love ya :-*

  • Gene

Hi Zuzana: I’m a bit confused. You state that an oxygen debt will increase the burning of fat. It is my understanding that an oxygen debt early in the exercise routine will burn more muscle than fat as the metabolic path way for burning fat is very complex and requires some time to kick in. I read that your body will burn the branch chain amino acids in you muscle for fuel if your body needs quick energy, thus a long slow burn is best. You are obviously an expert on this as I can see the results and I must say the results are remarkable. Have I been under the wrong assumtion all these years? My best Gene

  • David L.

great video , nice change of scenery! was this the biginning of your work out that day or did you warm -up first? your muscles look as though they had already had a work out and you look pumped!

  • http://www.PortOrangeJuice.com janis

    Love your exercise routines!

  • http://www.bodyrock.tv/ Zuzana – BodyRock.Tv

    HI David L.,
I did not warm up for this workout. I don’t warm up before every workout and sometimes passive warm up like hot shower for example is enough.

  • http://workoutjourney.com Brad

Looks like a routine that anybody could get results from.

  • Gerard Whooley

Hello Zuzana , I weight 131.2 kilos and find now that find it really getting me down. I would like to lose some of the weight I know I won’t lose it all. I was hoping if you can suggest a workout that would help me lose weight and would give me a general workout.

  • David L.

can exercise help stretch marks? my wife is very ensecure about her stomach because of stretch marks from having a baby. could ab exercises help this? I know it wouldnt cure them but maybe help.

  • Angeline

Zuzana, when I do woodchops, I don’t feel the strain on my abs. Instead, I feel the strain intensively in my arms. Am I doing anything wrong?

  • VLAD

Thanks for the vid. Nice shoes btw :)
Just a quick question, what exercises should I do to burn more fat?

    thanks again

  • Jon

    Z,
Another wonderful video. I’m thrilled to see your living room and feel honored to be invited in. I appreciate your instruction and motivation all wrapped together with consistency! You are awesome.

  • Tom

    Hi Zuzana,

you seem to have gotten even more defined and developed since your last video. Are you working out double time to kick Archfiend’s backside? How is that progressing? You look great!

This sumo chop exercise looks lethal :-) I have seen a variation of this exercise where one stays in a squat and jumps backwards 1/2 a metre when the ball goes up, then forward a metre when the ball goes forward. In this variation the ball does not go lower than waist level and it goes back a little behind the head. 20 – 30 reps. The squat itself does not go quite as low and the toes point a little more foreward. The body moves like a hinge and the power comes from the hips. If your not already familiar with this form, would you be so kind as to try it and let me know what you think about it?

    Best to you :)

  • mltyler

Thank you for such an informative site!

I have a question: You published your body fat calculation in February 2009 according to this website. In this video, you look noticeably cut (congratulations on your progress – it’s very inspiring). Would you be so kind as to update the body fat calculation section of this site to give us an idea of your progress since February 2009?

  • Christina

Zuzana, your arms are killers! And beautiful new site layout!

In regards to Gene’s comment, I’ve read conflicting information that’s suggested “slow burn” (such as long runs) actually increases the amount of cortisol in your body- and it is this type of excercise that breaks down lean muscle mass.

Well, I guess the best thing to do is just balance both intesities of training, right? Can’t do HIIT everyday now- it hurts! :)

Anyway, I’m looking forward to the rest of this workout!

  • Michael

Hi Zuzanna and Frederick! The new site layout is great and videos well done! This is a very valuable source of information and I will be including a link on my site to share what you are offering. Keep it up and well done!

  • Jessy

    Hello!

I´ve been checking your articles and vidoes on your website for approximately one month and I must say that I like it very very very much. :)
Before that I was only jogging and didn´t like weight lifting…but now I am following and doing your exercise routines… And I absolutely love it!!! :)

  • Vin

    Hi Zuzana,

I just found your website and I find it fantastic and hopefully a place I will be motivated to come back.
Are your workouts specifically geared to women?
I am impressed by how much you sweat. I cannot never workout to the level where I can get a good sweat. I get too tired. That is why I like Bikram Yoga, which is done in heated room. Do you heat your room?
Are your programs recommended for overweight people?
Finally, your accent is very nice, what nationality are you? ( I hope you don’t mind me asking)
    Thanks and God Bless

  • Hoey

    Hi Zuzana

Great video, just the other day in circuit training we did a variation of the plank and sumo wood chops, tho will try your out. Have you ever used the TRX suspension trainer?

  • Ramy

    Hi Zuzana,
I tried this exercise and the blank one was hard, but I will not give up)))
I wanna ask please, sometimes I see that you do Cardio among sets, and now you just said that you do not warm up before all work out.
why Cardio is important between sets? & Which exercises I can use cardio with?
    Thank you)

  • http://www.bodyrock.tv/ Zuzana – BodyRock.Tv

    HI lucky,
I’m glad you like the exercises ;)

  • Anna L.

    Hi Zuzanna,

I’m impressed with the results you’re gettiing; you’re so much bigger! Quite amazing what 20mins a day can do! Has your quest been all about putting muscle mass on? What was your initial fat percentage, if I may ask? You seem very lean even in your earliest videos. Also, could you tell me what your cardio routine is, do you do cardio every day? Do you run?

    Thanks!

  • Benjamin and Nicole

    Zuzana,

  • http://www.bodyrock.tv/ Zuzana – BodyRock.Tv

    Hi Benjamin and Nicole,

Tried the Summo Woodchops yesterday at the gym. Looks easy, right? I used 20lb dumbbell. After about 6 or 7 I started to feel it. Finished first set slightly winded, but feeling very good. Finished second set slightly more winded, still feeling strong. Did a third set, much more winded. Feeling strong though with a good solid feel like I worked esp my stomach, back and arms.

Today I am sore all over. In a good way. Awesome.

  • http://www.bodyrock.tv/ Zuzana – BodyRock.Tv

    Thanks Alvin :)

    Hi Zuzana,

Will the toes have to be pointing right in front, or slightly away?

  • http://www.bodyrock.tv/ Zuzana – BodyRock.Tv

    Hi Angeline,

your toes should be pointing slightly outwards.

  • Rob

Good workout! Any kind of plank work is great for core work. And the sumo chops WOW! Do you have others?

  • Laura

Zuzana~I did 2 sets of this entire workout morning & evening; really works legs (mine need the work)+ shoulders! I used a 10 lb weight for all the squats but I wonder how many lbs is your med. ball? Looking forward to new posts, Happy Halloween!

  • Yvette

    Hi Zuzana,
yes another New Years resolution to get fit this year but this year, I have decided that I need to follow through with it as no one else is going to do it for me!!! Your site is truly motivating and I’m truly excited about the new body I will get this year from following your techniques. I started this workout yesterday and I could hardly get out of bed this morning. I grinned and told myself, no pain no gain! Had a rest today as I wouldn’t have been able to lift the medicine ball but I’m looking forward to giving it a crack tomorrow after a good warm up!!! Cheers girl :)

  • Mauro

    hello ,
I’ve been doing the whole set of exercises of the full body blast workout, 3 times in a row.
i’m sweaty and feel i have worked out well. What i liked the most in this workout was that by focusing on the form i was doing it slowly and could really feel my muscles.
    Thanks
