Today’s Workout – 15 Minute Challenge

I wish I could do today’s workout! I don’t want you to miss your workout just because of my toothache, so I have attached the photos below that outline how to do today’s exercise challenge.  It’s going to be a really simple and short workout today, but don’t think for a minute that this challenge is easy. Set your timer to count down 15 minutes. You will be doing 10 reps of Low Jumping Jacks and 10 reps of the Core Exercise for which I have unfortunately no name (if anyone has a cool name for this exercise then please leave your suggestions in the comments below). Don’t take any long breaks and try to do as many sets as you can in 15 minutes. You might not be able to do all 10 reps especially in the last 5 minutes or so, but that’s ok. Do as many as you can keeping good form. Have your exercise journal close by so you can write down your score. What counts is the total amount of reps for each exercise. The next time you do this workout you will try to beat that number.

Enjoy this workout. I am going to have a sleep on a pillow of frozen vegetables. Hopefully it will be ok tomorrow and I will be able to workout with you then.

Best,

Zuzana.

Time: 15 minutes

Equipment: Exercise Mat

Exercises: Core Exercise 10 reps, Low Jumping Jacks 10 reps; back and forth.

CoreExercise1

Sit on your exercise mat and support yourself with your hands behind you. Bent your knees and bring them towards your chest. Keep your shoulders down and chest up, and your abs contracted. This is your starting position.

CoreExercise2

Extend your legs out, point your toes and try to lock your knees. Bring your knees towards your chest again and repeat 10 times. You can make this exercise harder if you raise your arms up above your head and keep them there through out the movement.

Jumping Jacks1

Stand with your feet hip width apart, place your hands behind your head and bend your knees to get your butt low. Get ready to jump.

JumpingJacks2

Push off of your feet and jump up bringing your legs apart.

JumpingJacks3

Land softly on the balls of your feet. Your legs are wide apart and knees bent. Jump up again and bring your feet together. Stay low, these are not regular jumping jacks, so make sure that your knees are bent at all times. Do 10 reps per set of Low Jumping Jacks.

Hope you feel better soon! Thanks for updating even though you don’t feel well. God bless!

    Zazana,
Be sure you don’t have an abscess on your tooth. That can be very serious if it becomes any worse.

Ah, bless Zuzana ; ) Hope you get better soon. Thanks for all these great workout videos.

  • Angela

I hope you get better, toothaches are no un at all.

  • Robert M.

Sorry to hear this. Healing energy coming to you.

  • Dheana

Aw, you poor thing! You’re so sweet to give us a workout even though you’re in pain. Toothaches are no fun at all.
I’m sure I speak for all your friends and fans when I say I hope you feel better soon! Lots of love and good energy coming your way! :)

  • Tina

Wow…What a legs!!! You have like ZERO body fat!!! Unbelievable…amazing…
I can say that you really eat very small portions and very little calories through the day.

Zuzana, please please tell me: What you do, when you have a day, when you want to eat something sweat or. something really good (but bad ;)) that you just can not resist? Do you eat it anyway? Because we – people – human beings :) are weak, at least sometimes, even super human beings like yourself. Please share! Cause you look better than any woman fitness competitor on hers competition day….and I mean exactly on that day! before and after they are not so ripped. If you think just of water that human body is retaining. How do you do that, you never retain any water? Amazing, just amazing and unbelievable…are you a super woman? :) ;)
Thanks for answer and see a doctor for your tooth! Hope you will be better in a snap!

    Tina

  • TEXAS CINDY

Oh,you poor thing. I can see how painful it is by your facial expression. Get plenty of rest,if your toothace is sensitive to cold, try drinking warm tea. If your pain killers don’t alleviate it then try some garlic on the tooth or tea tree oil or cloves. Most importantly if the swellling spreads toward the neck area, go to an emergency room immediately. Not a dentist. Toothe infections spreading downward toward the neck can invade the lungs or heart which can be debilitating or deadly. I will pray GOD to touch you with his healing hands.

  • TEXAS CINDY

How abouth calling the core exervise,’THE BOOMARANG”,OR “THE ROCKING CHAIR”.

  • Jana

  • Tracy

Ow! I feel for you. I just missed a whole week of workouts for the very same reason. I waited three days for it to get better on it’s own, and then I went to the dentist. It required surgery to remove it, which sounds scary, but I feel sooooo good now that it’s gone. When a tooth gets swollen like that, there’s usually an abscess which is very serious. You should just save yourself the suffering and go get it looked at. *hugs*

  • Maz

We call them v-sits without the arms assisting. So maybe ‘assisted v-sits’. Love the site. Hope you feel better soon.

    Hi Tina,

I can resist junk food usually with no problem and I enjoy to eat healthy meals. I still love chocolate and ice cream, but I eat it only for a special occasion. If I have cravings, then I try to come up with a treat that is not bad for me and that I really enjoy. Fruit, yogurts, nuts, or peanut butter with banana are examples of good treats.

  • Esther

    Hi Zuzana,

I feel for you!! I hope you get better soon!

I always called that exercise “the rower” because I used to bring my arms back and forth as well. Ok… makes it easier but it’s a nice exercise any way.

You poor thing, hope you are fine again tomorrow.

  • Rey

Hope you get well soon !!!

    Best wishes

  • Cath

Hi Zuzana – I usually call your core exercise you’re doing “V”sit ups or “V”crunches. Hope you’re feeling better soon. Did your 2 workouts yesterday back to back (only did each circuit twice tho not 4 times) it was great. I’ve been suffering from a couple of injuries lately so it was great doing a hard workout without any weight annoying my injury. I slept like a log last night!
    Take care

    Hi, me again.

I just wanted to comment on Tina’s post. I know that the question was directed at Zuzana, but I could relate to it, therefore I wanted to say a couple of things.

I used to be like that as well, thinking “how can I possibly resist certain foods that I’m used to eating and it’s always around”? I didn’t think I could, because not only do I LOVE food, it’s just really hard to make the right choice when you go into a supermarket and there’s thousands of products screaming in your face. It certainly took a while, but when I started learning about food, where it comes from, how it’s made, and how the ingredients affect my body, it became a lot easier. Now, I don’t even considered packaged and processed food as food. It’s garbage and I deserve to be fed better.

It’s weird to me to hear myself talk like this, because I have never ever ever been a health “nut”, even scoffed at them at times. Reading Omnivore’s Dilemma, watching Food, Inc., etc etc really opened my eyes and now making the right choice when it comes to food is so easy. And you don’t have to deprive yourself of sweets, just because you want to be healthy. Just make sure it’s the RIGHT stuff, like making cakes/muffins out of whole wheat flour and flax seed. Or something like that. There’s plenty of information online on how to choose the right foods.

    =D

go and see your dentist. Appreciate your effort still making a new exercise, we love you!

  • kaleio

Zuzana, I hope your tooth heals quickly. I’m a workout fanatic, too, and like you, I hate it when I can’t work out. But, we have to know when we need to rest, so for that, I’m proud of you.

I’m a huge P90X fan, and a similar exercise in Ab RipperX is called crunchy frogs. LOL! The only difference is that you are NOT supporting your body on your elbows. You are wrapping your arms around your legs each time your bring your knees to your midsection. Maybe you can call your core exercise, tadpoles. ;)

  • Bryan

I hope you feel better soon. I look forward to trying these exercises.

  • Mike K

The core exercise you have on there is simply called “In & Outs”.
    “V-sits” is a different exercise.
    Get better soon.

P.S. Just curious, do you change your workout routines every week?

Feel better Zuzana! Thanks for keeping us going with the pictures and description! :-)

  • Marie

Poor you :( Get well soon!

  • Marie

I hope that you feel better soon. It sounds like the tooth should be extracted? What does your dentist say? When I was a teen I had all four wisdom teeth extracted in one sitting. Took the entire weekend to heal with sleep and pain killers and then extra rest for about a week. I just recently was in a car crash and had to have a fractured toot extracted as well.

Again, please take care and feel better soon. You are one of the best examples of fitness and exercise on the internet. You should have your own tv show. Do you and I just don’t know where to find it?

    Best regards,
    Marie

Oh Zuzana, you are improving so fast. Can you tell me, what are the most important factors of your regimen ?
How many hours of sleep do you get ?
Do you workout every day ?
What is your daily diet like ?
You are incredible. I’ve been working out all my life, yet I find it difficult
sometimes to stay consistent. Do you suggest weight training over calisthenics ?
How do you keep the Fat off ? I’m relatively cut and well defined compared to
most guys, but I still have a strip of fat around my waist that just won’t go away !
I’ve tried everything from fasting to wearing a plastic jogging suit and one of those
    torso wraps.

I plan to take a weekend to study all your techniques here on the website,.. someday, however
what would you suggest I do.

Any suggestions would be highly appreciated.

    S.Lee-David

  • abhi

    hey Z get well soon.

  • George

    Hi Zuzana,

Its funny that I too had exactly the same trouble last week; the wisdom tooth :)
I got rid of it by extracting it off. Its the wisdom tooth which we hardly use, so you don’t have to save it by root canal treatment; you can peacefully extract it off. Please get a permanent solution fast, otherwise its gonna get worse.

Take care and get well soon,
    George.

  • ann

    hope u get better!

Sorry you’re not feeling well, this one had me sweating, love the low jack, I found them less stressful on my knees, I set my Gymboss to 15 minutes, lot tougher than it looks, but I got through it, thanks so much and get well soon.

  • Jason

Sorry to hear about your tooth, I should’ve visited the dentist last year but I’m scared. The B&W pictures are amazing. x

    Hey, awesome stuff.

I see more potential though. How bout including more compound exercises in the future? I think a set of burpees, duckwalks and indian pushups would do more for the tone.

but of course, looking at your awesome tone, you know better :)

    Hi Zuzana,

It’s nice of you to think of us while you are suffering, but I would personally rather you had the tooth removed or at the very least have a Dentist look at it. All we want is for you to be well. What do you do when you are seriously ill?

  • http://www.marielost100pounds.com Marie

I hope that you are feeling better today. Just wanted to mention that I have lost 100 pounds by changing my eating habits and embracing an exercise program that is compatible with your exercise philosophy.

Thank you for a great fitness website and for exercise regimes that change frequently.

  • Tina

    Zuzana,

Thanks a lot for your answer. I know a lot about healthy food & deserts and stuff.
DO not get me wrong, I am pretty good defined girls, I have six packs and my upper body is ripped. I am working out for several years now and also watch my diet.

And thanks also to you Yelena, it is great you shared your experience as well…

So what I wanted to say is…that despite all that knowing about food, healthy diet and all and despite working out with a lot of enthusiasm on a daily bases, I can not reach that kind of stage that Zuzana did for example. I have days when I would like to eat whole world, I am so hungry. I am eating only good stuff, but hey, WHAT you eat is the same important as HOW MUCH you eat. So, there is, lets say, one day in a weak, when I eat waaaay too much (good stuff, but…;) TOO MUCH)! And it shows. I can not reach my goal with this.

    Thanks for your time,

    Best wishes,

    Tina

    Hi Frederick:

I am hoping you can help.

I really enjoy all that you and Zuzana do, but am having a challenge and I hope you can help. I am seeing the Latest Updates, and the video, but not the individual exercise shots anymore.

  • maggie

    Hi Zuzana,

I love your workout. It’s intense. I try to get one of my friends to work out with me but she has this bad experience with working out in the past. She gains muscles very quickly… Basically, she bulked up. And somehow she got bigger instead of slimmer. She didn’t get any muscle tone either. Now she’s scared of working out.

Could it be her diet that makes her bulk up? Or is it just her body type?? I don’t know how to describe her body but it’s like that of Kuznetsova (tennis player)… She’s pretty fit but on a bigger side and wanna get more tone. The biggest problem is when she works out, she gets bigger and bigger.

  • Juliana

    Zuzana,
I know exactly what you are going through I had all 4 wisdom teeth pulled because they too were growing sideways because of no space. i suffered so much not one tooth but all 4 my front teeth were being pushed forward and i wanted to
die. I needed general ansthesia to do surgery. Very bad i lost 17lbs in one week. no eating and very little eating for more then a month because of throbbing pain. I feel for u girl.
u are in my prayers ok by the way how old are u? I git it when i was 23
    Juliana

  • http://www.bodyrock.tv/ Zuzana – BodyRock.Tv

    Hi Juliana,

that sounds horrible! I am 27 and that is apparently quite late to have problems with wisdom tooth, but my mom didn’t have any problems until she was in her forties. Thanks for your support.

  • http://www.bodyrock.tv/ Zuzana – BodyRock.Tv

    Hi Maggie,

It is for sure her diet that makes your friend to be more bulky then cut and slim. She probably gets more hungry due to her hard workouts – that’s normal, but you have to watch your diet and stick to small portions 6 times a day.

    Ahoj Zuzko

    Hey Zuzana,

I know how it feels to have wisdom tooth problems. I had mine removed when I was eighteen and that was one of the worst weeks of my life- but I’m glad I don’t have to deal with them now. I got a fever and had to take antibiotics (purple pills!) to finally get better. I hope you have a speedy recovery!

    Rest up,

    Hi Zuzana,

    Hope you’re feeling better !!

This exercise was a lot harder to do then I thought… I had no problem doing the Core exercise but the Jumping Jacks were killing me ! I could not complete the 15 minutes with the JJ’s… it was too hard in the end … I did some more Core exercises to complete the 15 minutes.

I hope I can do better next time … I realy need to work on those upper legs :)

    Get well soon !
    Kim.

  • Charlee

    Zuzana,

Thank you for your continued diligence in supplying the workouts.
I am a midwife and want to suggest using some clove oil on your tooth, between warm saltwater rinses :)
Even mommies use clove oil for babies when babes are teething:).

    I completely underestimated this workout!

    You are amazing!

I feel like a giant walrus right now but that’s ok because I can tell that I’ll be just fine after a while of doing these workouts!

So, Thanks for that! :) :)

  • Jezawix

I feel your pain, had to have 3 wisdom teeth removed last feb, and it was horrendous… though the 10 years of infections in my impacted wisdoms made it worth the surgery…. it took me a month to recover after they were out and a lot of pain.. but its worth it as im free now :)
Hopin you feel lots better soon :) and thankyou again for your super inspiring efforts… :) I will one day be in shape… if I can ever stick to it :) here’s to hoping :) J x

  • Motaz

    Hello Zuzana,

My wife and I big fans of you,
I wonder if you can help me create a fitness program for my son Karim , he is 12 years old ,
He is tennis player , ranked # 5 in Alberta , Canada ,He practice tennis 6 hours per week ,
Our goal is developing faster Legs & stronger knees and better balancing, foot work is essential in this sport, in addition to stronger shoulders & arms.
Also do you recommend weight exercise in this early age? We appreciate your help.

    Regards
    Motaz

  • http://www.bodyrock.tv/ Zuzana – BodyRock.Tv

    Hi Motaz,

I suggest that you contact a personal trainer who will put together a personalized exercise program for your son. Putting together a personalized exercise program is not only very time consuming, but it is also impossible to do so without a personal session with the client and initial assessments. If you want the best for your kid, then you have to find the best personal trainer who will lead your son through the exercise program and who will make sure that the training is helping his performance in tennis. I would choose someone who has experience in training kids, because you can not train kids the same way you train adults.

  • Roberta

    Zuna,

I love all of your workouts. I am currently 50lbs overweight. I wanted to know if I need to focus on cardio or can I do the hard workouts like the prison cell routine to lose weight. In a previous post you stated that “Exercise hard and you will look more cut. Exercise with low intensity and you will look softer. It is very simple”. I am interested in looking softer and losing the 50lbs. I don’t want to have hard muscles under a layer of fat I want the fat to be gone and just be toned. In the future I may want to get more cut, but not right now. WHAT DO I NEED TO FOCUS ON NOW TO GET TONED AND LOSE THE FAT? I am following your eating advice with no problem.

  • http://www.flickr.com/photos/41740772@N06/?saved=1 CL

    Hi Jezawix,

Your experience sounds like it was pretty traumatic. It must have been much worse than my own and most people’s wisdom tooth removal. I had all four out at the same time…35 years ago…when it would have been a bit of an experiment!

I won’t want to scare Zuzana or anyone needing this sort of operation. As long as Zuzana takes the antibiotics the Dentist prescribed thus gets the infection down and get some rest before the surgery. A single retraction in a healthy person should have no complications and she should be back to normal and exercising in short order. But, she should make sure the Doctor knows she is a very active person. This is important for post op care.

Zuzana is a real trooper and has as some said, “balls of steel”, I think this will be a very very minor bump in the road for her.

    Best wishes,
    –Chris

I think of a cartoon where a kangaroo lies back on it’s tail and kicks someone…so I thought of calling it kangaroo kicks or something like that. How is your tooth by the way?

  • nelita

HI Zuzana, how are you doing? How was your tooth extraction? Hope all is well

    Hi Nelita,

my tooth is fine, I am back on track!

  • Ania

    Hiya Zuzana
I discoverd this website a few days ago and I am addicted.Great training routines and diet tips. I love it
I hope you’re tooth is better. I am 27 too and had problems with my wisdom teeth last year – it’s unbelievable how painful it can be.
Anyway i discovered your website because I decided to change my life style. I used to train handball but after skiing accident and both broken legs I had to stop and became very unfit hah but lately i started exercising again and changed my diet – so no more processed food, no more artificial sweeteners, sugars, salt and all that crap :p oh and I quit smoking – after 12 years I decided enough is enough .It’s been 5 weeks and I’m smoke free :)
So Zuzana thanks very much for all you input, you’re an inspiration.
Greetings from a Polish girl in the UK

    Hi Ania,

Thanks for writing me the nice comment. Congratulations for quitting the smoking habit. I used to smoke too and stopped, but I didn’t smoke for so many years like you. It is really hard, so I wish you enough strength to go over it completely. I am going to be back today with another workout by the way so I hope that you will follow ;) Take care.

  • Natasha

    Hi Zuzana.

I didn’t read through all the comments, so I don’t know if this name has been suggested for the core exercise portion of this workout.
I thought a good name could be seesaw crunches?

    Hope you’re feeling better!
    Natasha

  • Katie

    Hi Zuzana

I did this work out yesterday. This is very intensive but I had so much fun doing it. I did 15 sets in 15mins.

How do you decide what work outs to do each time?

    Katie

  • Daniel

Frog Kicks may be a good name for the core exercise

  • Eric

I call those core exercises “accordians” or “out and backs” I also do a oblique version where you rock over to one “cheek” and do them, then rock over to the other cheek.

I have heard the core exercise you demonstrated called in and out’s. Not exactly a really cool name, but, that’s what i call them :)

  • Alyssa

I was looking back at the workouts I had not seen. So that is why it is a couple months after haha. We call them thingies because we could not come up with a name for them either.

  • Sammy

Name for exercise: Low Ab CORE CRUNCH.

  • AnnaSirena

I hope , that you will do this workout someday, because it’s very fun =))
    My result is 20 reps=))

Is it fate, that I decided to do this workout today, when you have a “teeth problem” again??=) (24 April 2010)

Zuzana’s tooth!! Do not be ache!!! ;)

  • Katya

Well, rather emberassing to post my results, after reading the previous comment.
I wasnt pushing my limits, and went on really easy with this.
But oh well, mine is 11 reps.
I can barely walk though, after the two previous days. Even 20 minute stretch didnt help much.

    Thank you!
    K

[...] up early again today and did my workout first thing. I did the 15 Minute Challenge workout. There are two exercises (10 reps of each) you are supposed to do as many times as you can [...]

  • Nina

19 rounds today, my abs are gonna hate me tomorrow I guess :D

  • Maria

I did 14 sets in about 15 minutes. I stopped because my legs just couldn’t do it anymore, I felt like rubber lol. I’m typing this now and I am still sweating! After a gym session, I would stop and not sweat, but after this, Im still wet :D

  • Del83

I suck! I could only do 9 rounds+10 v-sit crunches :( I can barely walk and breathe :) It’s my first week of bodyrocking and even though my result is embarrasing, I hope I’ll see improvement soon. The workouts are great!

  • Vanessa

    Third week of workout!

    1 week 10 rounds
    2 week 13 rounds
    3 week 16 rounds

    I am so happy,
thank you Zuzana and Fred you inspire me everyday!

  • http://www.flickr.com/photos/marionlakine/ Marion

    I did 19 rounds and 10 Vsits !
I hope I will manage to do better soon
Keep the sweat ;) And thanks for this great workout !

  • Donna

Hi Body Rockers. I found a way to modify the V-Sits…necessity is the mother of invention :). After 4 rounds of 10 on the floor, I tried them seated on the edge of a desk chair while holding onto the arms of the chair for support. I still worked the same muscles effectively without the pressure on my back. Next time I do this workout I will try to do more rounds on the floor, but I am still pretty new to this. These workouts are amazing.  I did 10 rounds all together for each exercise (20 min). I am spent and wet with sweat.

  • Glowmerida

    25 sets.

my abs hurt but I too thought that the low jacks were not enough… maybe 20 or 30 in each set would have been better

  • Jazzy

WOOHOO this killed me.. i did 18 reps + 10 core exercise.. and 3 Burpees for Erin and Zuzka and Freddy. Happy Holidays all!
