Zuzana’s Tooth And Calypso’s Cave

First – a big heart felt thanks for all of the caring and supportive messages. I’m taking on the job of today’s post because Zuzana is resting.

Zuzana had a really rough night last night – she was in a lot of pain which kept her from sleeping which as everyone knows just plain sucks. When we woke up this morning we decided that enough is enough, it was time to get her to a dentist ASAP. We found a clinic in Victoria that could take her at 430 pm, so she spent much of the day resting until the appointment. I have to admit that I was pretty worried about her because the right side of her face was starting to look elephant mannish – puffy and swollen like Marlon Brandow in the Godfather. Zuzana is a trooper and a tough cookie, but I could tell that the incessant pain was starting to get to her. We took a bus into Victoria and after a short hunt through some side streets found the dental clinic. The tooth that was causing all the pain was a back wisdom tooth that appears to growing in side ways (ouch) in a spot where there is no room (double ouch). The doctor spent some time cleaning around the effected area, which offered some relief, and suggested that the tooth be pulled. Something about it being a good idea to have problem teeth pulled before the age of 30, at which point the jaw bone can become more dense and the procedure can get more tricky. Zuzana has a few years before that will become a concern, but who wants to go on with a dodgy tooth that can flair up at any time? So the long and the short of it is that she will be going back next week to have it pulled. She already feels much better, and some of the swelling has gone down. She explained to me after over a coffee, that as soon as the Doctor told her that it was nothing serious and that she was not going to die from her tooth ache she immediately felt better – good enough to try and bite into my stake sandwich (ouch again).

So the bottom line for everyone today (myself included) is that you have a pass on the workout – enjoy your day of freedom, because Zuzana is already feeling better and planning tomorrow’s workout routine to make up for the fact that we all got to sit on our asses today. If you really want to brown nose you can go back to one of the earlier circuits or one of the routines on the workout page, but don’t think that will save you from what she is cooking up for us tomorrow.

Until then we thought that we would post the pictures from our active rest day this past Sunday. For our ARD we decided to go on a hike to Calypso Cave – the place where Calypso the sea nymph imprisons Odysseus in Homer’s Odyssey. We set the pedometer before we left in our Ipod Nano (which is shaping up to be our favourite new gadget) and it recorded that Zuzana took 20,637 steps in 5 hours 32 minutes and 21 seconds round trip. I’m not sure how accurate that this is, but it also registered that she burned 702 calories – not bad for active rest.

23

Starting off on our hike – there are a shortage of side walks on Gozo island, so we walked along the top of the stone walls as often as we could to avoid the crazy drivers. It was a bit like walking on the edge of a racetrack.

19

There were so many places that gave us such a warm feeling…

18

After 4 hours of hiking we finally caught sight of the north coast (we took the really really long way around).

16

These are cactus fruits. Where I come from you don’t eat road side fruit, but Zuzana had no problem gobbling them down.

21

This is the view of the sea from inside Calypso Cave. We climbed down into the cave and found a bunch of disappointed Italians who I think expected to find Calypso still lounging around in her garter belt – they were all saying “niente, niente.” While Calypso’s interior decorating did leave a bit to be desired, the view of the sea was incredible.

06

Just under the cave we found this abandoned mansion over looking Ramla Bay.

07

It must have remarkable in it’s time. I could image these grand parties in the 1920′s with men in tuxedos and women in their evening dresses. It was like being inside The Great Gatsby.

03

At the end of the 4 hour hike, walking along the beach and seeing the waves crashing in the distance was best reward for our tired feet. The air was so fresh and clean, it just swept away every tension from the whole week. By the time we reached the beach we only had about an hour of day light left – we really hustled back – cutting across country and through a deep valley – racing against the setting sun. We made it back in 1 hour!

I don’t know guys how you always find such beautiful places to live at =)))
and Zuzana’s pic made me skip a brownie =))

Hi there! I was just thinking… People are asking you questions, and finding answers is just difficult, as I would have to go through every post you ever posted. So I thought a forum would be a great idea, you could answer questions there. Community could be more together and friendly. People could share their experience and it would be easier for us and you to find things one is looking for :) And you could get your feed back about your videos or post right where they should be- under your post, instead loads of questions, which probably you have answered already somewhere else. Just an idea, you might think about…

Anyway- I’m so impressed with what you do. Best site ever!!! It’s so logical what you do, that I almost want to ask you if any of you is Virgo? Both? No, Zuzka I think… Well, just wandering ;P

Please, consider a forum. It would be a great place of Bodyrock.tv-maniacs to share their experience, and to hear from you!!!
    Greetings from Poland :D

  • TEXAS CINDY

That’s fantastic! Five hours and then one hour back. GET OUT!! What a beautiful beach and that used-to-be-house could be a great place to go back to and have a picnic. As for that hike,I don’t think I could that anymore. I used to run from my parents house (way back when I was in my mid twenties)to the next small town that was 5 miles away, then take a back country road that was another five miles distance, then hit the main highway to another small town 6 miles away ,go thru town (one maybe 2 miles. it’s a small town)then back home for another 10 miles. Those were the good days, when I could. All that running damaged my knees. Aaannyway-I didn’t know they grew cactus over there. Here in Texas it’s everywhere and yes you can eat the fruit and also the leaves;which are called Napolitos. Remove the needles, wash and dice the leaves and saute them in some EVO and scramble them into your eggs. They ooze a gooey, sticky clear slime but it won’t kill you. LOL. Or, you can cut them lengthwise and eat them raw and add them to a salad. You can get them in any store that has ethnic foods. Of course, there best when harvested fresh when the “new” growth appears in April. Some people make hot sauce with it and even candy! I’ve never tried that. The countryside looks so beautiful. Is the air as pure as the pictures look? How far do ya’ll live from the nearest city or are ya’ll already in the city? Why does she have to wait till next week to get her tooth pulled? When I had to have my wisdom tooth pulled for the very same reason as Zuzana, they did it the very same morning that I went in. But, I am happy to hear that your not feeling as miserable now that you know it’s not “serious”. See ya tomorrow and thanks for sharing your hiking trip.

I hope Zuzanna feels much better. I know that having a tooth ache is no joke. Especially with Wisdom teeth. With much love I wish her all the best. : )

  • Esther

Wow, the fotos are stunning. It looks still warm and so beautiful!

  • Lisa

    Hi Tanya,

I got those jeans at a shop called Terranova. I haven’t seen that shop in north america.

  • Victoria

    Hi Zuzana,

It was good to know you feel better. I had a similar problem with my tooth of wisdom and I know how painful it can be. Nevertheless you proved you are stronger than that pain. Well done girl!

I’m sad to hear of the sleepless night, but glade the tooth will be taken care of. An extraction usually has a stitch or two involved and a request that you don’t strain the muscles of the jaw for several day to let the opening heal. So you might plan a couple other trips or run a contest instead of doing workouts for that time. And please go back and have the tooth removed no matter how much better you feel right now!

I can suggest a couple contest ideas with the winner receiving a http://WWW.BodyRock.TV T-Shirt. 8-)

One contest would be a slogan to go on said T-Shirt with the http://WWW.BodyRock.TV logo front and back. Another contest could be our picks of resent for workouts to be included on a future DVD.

BTW, nice pictures! Malta seems to be a really nice place and I bet most of us wouldn’t mind if you did explore some more. Maybe with a little video included.

    Best wishes,
    –Chris

  • Frederick

Hi Jackie – we host our videos on YouTube, so if you are having a problem viewing them please visit the YouTube help pages. It is almost always a browser issue. We have started to add photo’s of the new workouts – so check those as well.

    Best,

hey Z, get better, and dont worry bout gettin the tooth pulled, i had two wisdom teeth (same as yours, one impacted and sideways) and had both pulled when i was 27 – its pretty easy for dentists these days. The worst part is really the gauze packing after. Unless you enjoy eating cotton balls! haha….but seriously, the gauze and the no eating “real” foods for a day or two is the part that sucks! You wont look back once its done and healed….you may have to layoff the exercising for a few days after it tho – so it doesnt get a bloodclot in the pocket of it. I’m sure you can afford the few days off – you guys deserve it. In the meantime, Fred – get more photos of that place – So nice! Maybe there is a fitness lesson scheduled for the locals! haha…yeah right! great site guys!

    I hope Zuzana feels better!

    Hey Zuzana,

Hope you are feeling well. As CL mentioned you may be out of commission for a few days post tooth extraction. You will have some drainage for the first 24 hours and lifting, jumping or jarring movements can cause extreme swelling/blood clot. Don’t feel too bad if you are not able to post daily workouts. Your fans can follow your excellent assortment of exercise routines from prior posts. We need you to heal completely so that you can come back with a vengeance ;) Take care and hope all goes well for you.

  • krazyshovels

Glad to hear your feeling better, I plan to do some Swimming today then, Your great!

  • Vera

The sand is very dark/orange, different from other Mediterranean beaches (in Europe). Remembers me the “gates of Africa”, where sand and dust starts to get a darker/red colour.

Darn, so sorry for Zuzana. An impacted wisdom tooth is the worst. She’s right to get it out. But I miss her kicking my butt.

Beautiful pics. Last year I was supposed to be on a cruise to Mexico when the Swine Flu hit. Instead they took us to Canada (which was a real bummer when your expecting Mexico), but I see now I should have appreciated it more. I wish I could go back now.

Oh, and awesome jeans Zuzana. Good luck next week when you have the tooth out.

  • Colleen

    Hi Zuzana,

Feel better soon. Tooth pain is the worst ever so continue being a trooper!!!

    Best,

thanks for the great narrative tour Fredrick, love ur visual comparisons. incredible pics .

    Zuzanna,

Nice cactus pictures. If you like cactus you might want to check out botany site a friend of mine and I put together for Texas (txflora.org – put Cactus in Quick search and click go). It is a bit old and requires IE for proper view, we have about ~80%(guess) of cactus for Texas photographed. Also, your fitness stuff is great. The movements are awesome. Really link some of the Burpee combinations you come up with.

    Ahoj Zuzko,

i’m a 51 yr. old personal trainer in above average shape and i tried to lift 15 pound weights for a minute out to my sides and couldn’t go more than 15 seconds….i dont believe very many women can do 25 pounds….or am i wrong and really much weaker than i thought?
