Tasty Chicken With Pear Sauce

Hi everyone,

Today was my active rest day so I decided to try a new recipe that was posted in the comments by “E.E.” I had never tried pear sauce and it got me curious so I decided to give it a try. I wasn’t at all disappointed. What I really love about this site now is how many of you are sharing your experiences, progress and ideas with our little community. If EE had not shared this recipe then I may never had gotten the chance to try this. As you can probably tell from watching me prepare these diet videos, I am not a wizard in the kitchen. Don’t get me wrong, I really enjoy cooking and especially trying new things and experimenting with different ingredients – but my skill level is a work in progress. Today’s tasty chicken recipe was great because you can make it with just a few basic ingredients and it’s fast and simple. Frederick gives this recipe his seal of approval – he actually just polished off the last of the chicken :)

We will be back tomorrow with a new workout, so enjoy your free day.

Best,

Zuzana

For this recipe you will need the following ingredients:

About 400 grams of ground meat (chicken or turkey), 1 or 2 pears ( I used 2 ), 1 egg, 1 garlic clove, fresh lemon juice, handful of rolled oats, thyme, salt, pepper.

2

Lets start with the pear sauce. Peel the pears and grate them on the smallest grating surface.

3

You can add fresh thyme leaves which I believe is a better choice, or if you don’t have fresh leaves, you can use dried thyme spice like me. I used about 3 pinches.

4

Add pinch of salt and black pepper.

5

Squeeze some fresh lemon juice over the pears. I had a small lemon so I used about half of the half.

6

Squish one clove of garlic and add it to the pear sauce. The sauce is done, so now lets prepare the meat.

7

Now you will need the ground meat, one or two cloves of garlic, salt, pepper, thyme, egg, and lemon.

8

Crack the egg and whisk it. Add pinch of salt and pepper, 3 pinches of thyme, squished garlic, and about 2 table spoons of  lemon juice. Mix all of the ingredients well.

9

Pour the mixture over the ground meat.

010

Add a handful of oats and mix it into the meat.

11

The last ingredient is Worcestershire sauce (optional). It gives it a really nice flavor. Mix it well and put the bowl in the preheated oven. I had it on 230ºC and it took about 25 to 30 minutes before the meat was done. When the meat is done, heat up the pear sauce and pour it over the chicken. I served the meat with burgol and tomato salad. I also like to grate parmesan cheese over the top.  You can see what it looks like when it’s done on the video.

    Hi Timea,

don’t worry you’re not the only one experiencing trouble accessing the site, I couldn’t access it for about a weekXD, but now I can again. As Frederick said, servers can be a hassle… If you don’t want to miss any workouts/videos, you can always tune in on youtube at Zuzana’s video channel under the username charliejames1975, all the videos can be found there as well.

Is anyone else having trouble viewing this video? I tried it on youtube last night and it freezes at the 33second mark. I couldn’t access bodyrock.tv at all yesterday, but I know that’s because of server issues. However today on this site I’m having the same issue with the video both here and on youtube, it freezes at the 33second mark, and yes I let it buffer all the way to the end.

This is a healthy pancake recipe: I got this from a friend-
    4 egg whites, lightly beaten
    1 tsp. organic peanut butter
    1/3 cup Old Fashion Oats
    Cinnamon to taste

Stir them all together. Use a little spray of canola oil in pan, heat on medium.
Pour half of batter for 1 pancake. Flip when center isnt runny.

I use sugar free syrup, or even some kind of fruit preserves as a topping and I also like to layer the top with peanut butter.

If your having trouble viewing the video try clicking the HD button, it worked for me when I did that.

    Good Morning!

I was dismayed to see it was a rest day (not to worry Z, even God rested after a hard week), I took the opportunity to gain some ground on you guys. So I did the Hardbodies Workout in a PB of 24:15, followed 5 min. later by the Crazy Monkey in a another PB of 25 sets. Having done that and feeling pretty jacked up with 5 min. rest I did 5 sets of crunches, curls, bent over row and over the head tricep work (whatever those are called) with bar. Very tired but happy!

The chicken looks great! I rest tomarrow, thanks again for everything.

    • HI E.E.,

I would like to thank you again for the great recipe and I would be very happy if you could share more with me :) Btw, Freddy ate almost the whole thing by himself. I had only the small piece that you can see on the video :)

Hello Zuzana I have an intense workout to share with you:

with your back to the wall get in a squat position and hold for 30 seconds.

after 30 sec immediately get in to a plank position (with forearms on floor)

then using your core, pick yourself up from forearm plank to hand plank (so you’re on your hands).

move each leg a little wider than hip width apart (do one leg at a time), move legs back in then lower from hand plank to forearm plank.~8reps Note: You should be moving fast the entire time. ~8reps

Repeat entire exercise for 8 rounds or more:). Sorry that this description is long but I hope you understand how to do it. This workout is very simple but extremely intense. Hope you like it and agree.

    Dear Zuzana and Frederick,

I am so happy that I found your site, it is incredible, you guys are really great! I am from Bolivia but I am living in Europe at the moment. I have committed myself to get fit and the videos are really helping me, I also stopped eating anything that would contain flour (but that is just temporary because I made a promise) and also stopped eating chocolate, which now that is winter is a bit difficult. Anyway, thanks for the workout videos and for the recipes. I am your new fan.

Hi Zuzana! Since I love cooking and that I would like to thank/reward you for giving out your great workouts, here is a recipe that I love! If you like it and need more healthy recipes just e-mail me, it’ll be my pleasure to give you more of them! :)

    Creole Beef (Served Over Rice)
    Gives 4 portions

    Ingredients:

    • 1 lb (500 g) Groud beef
    • 1 small onion, chopped
    • Rice (and water to prepare it) for 4 portions
    • 1 egg, beaten
    • 3 Cups (750 ml) of frozen spaghetti sauce vegetables (or you can chop fresh onions, carrots and celery)
    • 1 28 oz can (796 ml) of diced tomatoes (spicy red pepper flavored if available)
    • A couple drops of tabasco or a dash of Cayenne pepper (if you like it spicy)
    • 3 Tbs (45 ml) Olive oil
    • 1 Tsp (5 ml) Butter (or great tasting olive oil margarine like I use!)
    • Salt and pepper to taste.

    Preparation

    1. Pre-heat the oven at 375°F (190°C).

    2. Mix the ground beef, onion and egg in a bowl. Season the mix with tabasco or cayenne pepper, add a little salt and pepper.

    3. Prepare 12 to 16 balls with the meat.

    4. In an oven-safe skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat and brown the meatballs for about two minutes. Put aside in a plate.

    5. Remove all grease from the skillet. Melt the butter/margarine over medium heat and cook the spaghetti veggie mix for about three minutes. Add salt and pepper if you wish.

    6. Add the diced tomatoes and bring the mixture to boil. Add the meatballs and stir.

    7. Put the skillet with all the ingredients in the oven and cook for about 15-20 minutes.

    8. While your meal is cooking, prepare your rice. (Whatever kind and however you like it)

    *VOILÀ!*
Serve the results in nice plates and enjoy with a tall glass of healthy water! (You might require a litre of it, depending on how much spicy stuff you put in it!) :D

Dosn’t it smell and taste delicious for such a simple meal???

    • Hi Tanya,

I hate being sick, I know how annoying that must be, but it’s important that you give your body some rest. I am sure that you can still do some yoga and meditation. You can also use this time for some kind of detox. Eat less, drink plenty of water and make yourself some nice tea. Watch some nice movie, read some nice book and enjoy your days off ;)

  28. Chris L says:

    Hi Es,

I think you’re talking about a Triceps Curl. If you mean the move where you typically take a Dumbbell over your head from behind your head. You can also use bands or plates on straps or do them one armed or lying down face up or with a Barbell or lying face down or using two Dumbbells or…8-)

And a bodyweight exercise to do is of course…Dips. Which is where you support your arms from a “bench” and drop your butt below the bench level. You can of course use two benches and rest your feet on the other one.

BTW, you and everyone should be careful not to over exercise. I think Zuzana is wise in taking two days of active rest a week.

  29. E.E. says:

Hi Zuzana and Fred!! wowwww!! hahaha so much for portion control huh Frederick? Just kidding ;P well…here is a recipe for pumpkin pie that’s very healthy that I came up with. I made it several weeks ago but I feel like I need to polish it some more. But nonetheless, I want to share it with you because I know you love pumpkin pie Zuzana!! If you want to give it a try, go ahead. If not yet, then I’ll work on it some more, though it tastes rather good in my opinion!

    Crust:
-3/4 C almond meal (the ground almond)
    -3/4 C oats
    -1 egg
    -1/2 C apples with skin
    -1 tsp vanilla extract
    -cinnamon
    -1 tsp salt

    Filling:
    -1 can of pureed pumpkin
    -1 egg
-1/3~1/2 C brown sugar or honey
    -1/4 C milk
    -1 tsp vanilla extract
-some ground nutmeg, cinnamon, ground cloves

    Making it:

First, grind up all the oats until they become powder-like. Then, mix it with the almond meal. Puree the apple pieces in a processor, and then add the vanilla, cinnamon, and egg together. Take those last ingredients and add them to the oats & almond meal. Like any other baking recipe, blend or mix all those ingredients together very well. Then, lightly grease a pie/cake pan and spread this crust mixture evenly throughout the pan. (The apples will help give it a nice scent as well as hold the mixture together–think of it as healthy butter :) )

Afterwards, get another bowl and mix the pumpkin with milk and egg. Then, start adding the sugar/honey, vanilla, and the spices into the mixture. Beat everything very well until you get a nice creamy consistency (electric beaters work perfect if you have it.)

Last step–pour the mixture onto the crust and bake at approximately 375 degrees Fahren. for approximately 40 minutes.

Hope you like it enjoy!! You can also try this with sweet potatoes but you have to boil them and then take the skin off in cold water.

ps: Oh, and as you encouraged me to share more, I’m more encouraged to try new things! ;) really, Fred’s post pushed me to try and come up with healthier and innovative recipes. Have a wonderful Friday!

  45. Matan says:

The Chicken with Pear Sauce looks fairly simple; I’ll definitely give it a shot.

Here’s something I tried not very long ago. It’s called Papa al Pomodoro, and it’s a very simple Italian tomato soup. It’s not really a soup, as you will see, but for lack of (imagination for) a better name I’ll stick with that. ;)

    P A P A A L P O M O D O R O

    INGREDIENTS

    1/4 cup olive oil
    3 chopped garlic cloves
    3 salvia leaves
4 slices of good fresh white bread*
    8 very fresh tomatoes
    2 cups of water
    30 basil leaves, hand chopped
    salt
    pepper
    1/2 cup ground parmesan cheese

    * For the bread, I like using a whole loaf of bread, ripping off from that by hand a quantity that is roughly equal to 4 slices of bread.

    PREPARATION

    1. Peel the tomatoes. To do that either find a good tomato peeler or use the boiling water trick:

    a. Boil water in a pot
    b. Mark an X at the bottom of each tomato. We’ll use this mark as a starting point for peeling the tomato in a few seconds.
    c. Throw a tomato into the pot for 10 seconds
    d. Take it out and peel it. The tomato’s skin should peel off easily.

    2. Chop the tomatoes in large pieces.
    3. Throw the oil, garlic and salvia in a pot and bring the pot to boiling
    4. Add the bread and tomatoes and cook for about 2 minutes
    5. Add the water and bring the pot to boil
    6. Cook for 3 more minutes
    7. Mix in the basil leaves
    8. Split into serving dishes
    9. Sprinkle the parmesan cheese over the servings.
    10. Enjoy!

  46. Matan says:

^^ When I say “mark an X at the bottom of each tomato” I mean make a mark with a sharp knife. Look up peeling tomatoes on youtube and you should see how it’s done by video. Some say put the tomatoes in the boiling water for 30 seconds; I think this long will degrade from the tomato’s taste, and 5 to 10 seconds are well enough.

    Ahoj Zuzko,
předně bych chtěla tobě a tvému manželovi popřát vše nejlepší v novém roce, hlavně zdraví a tobě spoustu cvičení.

A ještě jeden dotaz. Jak to u tebe vypadá se stravou? Počítáš KJ/kcal? Já totiž začínám počítat, skoro vše mám nastudované, ale není mi jasné kolik energie, bílkovin, sacharidů, tuků atd. mám vlastně přijmout v cvičební den a kolik v den, kdy necvičím. Pokud bys to měla nějak zmáknuté a měla na mě chvíli čas, byla bych ti vděčná, když bys mi napsala na mejla. Snad tě svými dotazy moc neobtěžuji a ještě jednou přeji mnoho úspěchů v roce 2010.

    Předem děkuji.

    S pozdravem Bára

    • Ahoj Baro,

Kalorie nepocitam. Jim hlavne zeleninu, ovoce, lusteniny, celozrnne pecivo, kureci maso, rybi maso, mlecne produkty s mirou, a piju hodne vody. Jim casto – aspon 5 krat denne po malych porcich, coz mi pomaha zrychlovat spalovani prebytecnych tuku. Je dulezite jist jen tolik aby ses zasytila. Ja se ridim zasadou jez do polosyta. Jelikoz jim stravu pestrou a tak neresim kolik bilkovin, sacharidu a tuku jsem prave snedla. Ono se to behem toho dne uz nejak vyvazi a to telo si z te stravy vezme presne to co potrebuje.
