I was born and raised in Québec and now live in English Canada. Even though québécois have some pretty aweful meals (Poutine anyone?) we eat small portions and most people just love anything local, which obviously includes fresh fruits and veggies.
Since moving to the English side, I cannot believe how americanised it is! Stores were you can buy tires and milk while shopping for new underwear are the norm here and everything just seems bigger. We had american stores and chains in Québec, but Montréal mostly has small cafés and local eateries, and I used to go to the baker, the butcher and the grocer for my food needs...

I used to worry about the slow spread of Walmart and the likes in Québec, but it is much more advanced here! And what impact does it have on our food!?!?! We don't know where it comes from and how long ago were thos tomatoes picked off the tree (do they even taste like 'sunny' tomatoes?).

I think that people need to become more conscious of what they buy. Sure, your food might be cheaper when bought in those mass size stores, but what do you exactly get for that price????

Anyways, this was my rant for the day and my main concern with the food industry right now...

The absence of food culture and the lack of affordable fresh food in low income communities adds to the food issues we have here in the US. NPR did a short story on the fact that Central California, where a lot of fresh produce is grown, has some of the worst conditions of malnutrition...One of the most shocking things was that the food is shipped out of the valley and then shipped back in to the supermarkets, so off course it's too expensive for the pickers and poor to afford it...next stop..McD's , TB (Taco Bell) etc...
http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=106061080
Something I noticed too was how easy it is to find a fast food restaurant in a low income community and how sometimes the prices are a little higher than in other communities...Feed the poor poorly right?
It disgusts me!

Hey guys,
since you are in Prague and this post is about pizza, you have to go and visit this pizzeria, if I recall correctly the name is Ambiente in Revoluční very close to the mall, just across the street. I've been there an year ago and I had one of the best pizzas I've ever eaten (and I've been in Naples more than a couples of times, I'm Italian).
Check it out and enjoy ;)

Altro che domino....
