One Month Challenge

Hi Guys,

I hope that you will follow me on this challenge. Don’t leave me in this by myself :) I want to know that there are other people in this world who will say no to every treat, chocolate and sugar in general for the next 30 days. If I can do this, then you can too and we will reward ourselves with something nice that will always remind us of our strong will. I will reward myself with a nice charm for my Pandora bracelet. I was thinking that maybe some crystal charm from Swarowski would be nice, because I have always wanted something from this store. The reason why I am doing this is because lately I have been eating chocolate almost on a daily basis. Not much, a small piece with my coffee – but it is happening more often then is good for me. It’s quite an addictive little ritual, so I have decided to break this habit before it really takes hold. The other thing is that we are really focusing down on our fitness for the summer – and a big part of getting the results we want will be tightening up on our diets. This challenge will help us do just that by essentially removing all of the junk.

Sorry for not letting you rest, but I just need to do something today. If it’s cold and damp outside, it can have a negative impact on your mood, so it’s important to keep your energy high and push through it and an intense workout can be just the thing to help with this. I know that working out on days like this might be the last thing you want to do, but just imagine how much better you will feel after the workout and after your shower. Then you can crawl into your comfortable bed with a cup of hot tea and relax with a great mood and feeling of accomplishment. Trust me – that’s the best ;)

Checkout the pictures and descriptions for this workout here, and if you don’t have your Gymboss Interval Timer yet, then you should seriously consider getting it, because we will be doing a lot of high intensity interval workouts as we focus down on getting into shape for the summer. Enjoy your day and your workout.

Best,

Zuzana.

  • Sandra

Count me in!!! It won’t be easy but its doable. Its so nice to know I can come on here and find like minded people. It isn’t always easy to avoid all the junk and find the motivation to work out when the people around you (my family and friends) could care less. For the past couple of years, I have been in the same cycle as you mentioned earlier, so enough already. I want to be strong and healthy this summer :)

  • mandy

you dont eat too much chocolate and you have the perfect body, as perfect as perfect can get so why not treat yourself to some delious treats, you earned it through all your hard work to reward yourself with atleast a little something

  • Charlie

Oh dear, Oh my. I will accept your challenge. This will be very hard, as I have an enormous sweet tooth.
Any substitute suggestions for sweetening my coffee?

  • amberae

I’m giving up sugar too, along with processed foods for lent. I’m not even catholic, but I thought it was a good excuse.

  • http://twitter.com/sasmasterb Sarah

I will try it. I’ve never done anything like this before. I am new to your site. Im having fun trying your workouts.

I wish you had a facebook group. It would be nice to talk to others who are working out with you at home.

I think if I pass the sugar cleanse I will buy myself something too!

  • Ixita

Im in!!!!… hi Zuzana, Ive recently discovered your site and I simply Loved It!!!! I must confess Im not in the shape I want to be, so ill be following your 30 day callenge with you, hopefully ill get the results I want….I just have one request though, and this is because to me its easy to follow to excersices but the hard part for me its the diet… Could you do a new video on a sample day in your diet??? The last one was very informative, but it would be nice to see an update…xOxO

  • autumn

U TOTALLY READ MY MIND!! I had chocalate today to but not much…i have great news i lost 4 pounds…im 126….but my goal is between 100-120..what do you think..how much more should i lose?…p.s. im just about 5 FOOT…I NO REALLY SHORT..i am so doing this with you

  • Audra Gatti

    Hi Zuzana,

Of course I’ll join you in the “no sugar” challenge:)
Iv’e been doing it for the last couple of months so it should be a piece of cake for me. What about you Frederick? Are you gonna join in on the challenge?

  • Antonia

    Hi

    Zuzana,

Thankyou for mentioning this and I think this is a great idea. I have an issue this month but its not with sugar mine is with salt, even the natural salt in foods can make me retain water and add pounds. I have to really watch it if I want to look good. Its not fun but I rather look good. I am sorry your down today but that was a good decision. Its when we really need to work out. Do you mind saying what made you sad? Was it the sugar? I think is motivating to know even your not immune to stuff and we are in similar boats at times.

  • Carol

    Zuzana-
Im with you all the way.. 30 days NO SUGAR… WOOOOOOOO

  • Tiffany Stephens

Sounds perfect….I was thinking that very thing and had a converstation with my husband on minimizing his sweet tooth because everyone in the house has to have a little. We’ll see how he manages. Anyway, yes I accept!!!! what about splenda in my coffee? I’m like you I do about 4-5 coffee’s a day :) SEE YOU ON THE SUGARFREE SIDE, Thurs, 18 of March. I think i’ll treat myself to a nice bottle of wine…Any suggestions? or cure for a sugar coma..kidding :)

  • Stephanie

i am going to do this challenge with you.

i have been watching your videos and doing the workouts for about 3 months now and have seen huge improvements.

i did one of my own workouts today and thought i would send it to you and see what you thought. i thought it was a killer and was exhausted afterwards. i felt really good though. Good luck….

4×30 regular squats (with or without weights)
4×30 deadlifts (with or without weights)
4×30 sumo squats with leg lift
    4×30 lunges

    30 push-ups
    100 skips
    30 push-ups
    100 skips

i finished the workout in 35 minutes. not exactly the best timing ever but i wasn’t feeling 100% today.

Great job on providing such unique workouts. i look forward to checking out your website everyday!

    :)

  • Tiffany Stephens

You look so cute today..as always but today really sexy casual…go gurl

  • Lindsey

I’m in! It is definitely a challenge though. I’ve actually been trying this for the past week. I never realized how much sweets can just sneak into my diet with out noticing. Like, packs of nuts with M’n'M candies mixed in and I have to force myself to pick out the M’nM’s and throw them away! its hard. But if I am putting so much effort into my physical fitness, then it doesn’t make sense to not put effort into my health that I’m getting from what I eat. You can’t just do one or the other to the extreme, or it’s not really your health you care about.

  • diana

i love your workouts i was getting in a rut til i found you i have notice a difference already in just a few days
i also try to use weights
what do you and your boyfriend do the rest of the day i never read anywhere what you do for a living

  • Cara

Hi Zuzana! I think this is a great challenge. I am very proud of myself for the following reasons: I have not had any candy since January 4, 2009 (I made it to the year mark)! My weakness was Skittles! Second, May 27th, 2009 was my last day of pop so I have also given that up. Lastly, I used to have a tall cappuccino (from the gas stations, so the fattening kinds) EVERY morning since I work 8-5 and at a desk. So, starting August 19th, 2009, I have had no cappuccinos. Even though I’ve given all of this stuff up, the one thing that always seems to find me is portion control! I eat healthy foods but it’s just that I don’t know when to stop! I’m working on it though and trying to overcome it by summer!

Thanks again for all your help and I think your workouts are something my body needs to switch it up!

    Cara

  • La

You had to post this right after I had a piece of Valentine’s chocolate??!!!!! grrrrr

  • chubbiebonnie

    Hi Zuzana…sounds like a good idea..I’ll think about it,..but, I like wine…what will I do about wine?..chubbiebonnie

  • Lynn

I’m so psyched. I (FINALLY) am able to do a pistol. I did 2 on my right leg and 1 on my left leg…..you have to start somewhere right? Now I’m addicted to doing these things and increasing the number that I can do, so I’ve been practicing them on a daily basis. It’s amazing what a little hardwork will do for you……

  • Littles

So I have been following your website and doing the workouts for months now and could not find a more perfect time to finally participate. My diet is always my challenge. I workout Monday through Friday at 5am, I love it, I kick my own ass before the sun comes up and it starts my weekdays off right. And even with that motivation and dedication to my workouts not a day goes by that I don’t put something bad in my mouth. It is unnecessary and making progress, let alone my goals, that much more difficult to attain. The last time you did this challenge I thought to myself when was the last time I went even a couple days without some naughty food. So I thank you, this is the exact motivation I needed. 30 days, starting now! :)

    <3 Heather

  • Maryam

omg zuzana, that is exactly what i needed! i am being very bad with the same thing these days–CHOCOLATE–why is it that good!?! lol.

anyway, i am in this with you. im going to eat no junk food AT ALL for 30 days. thanks agn for the extra push :)

  • Klaudia

    Hi everyone,
I just wanted to say that I have stuck to your workouts the longest and I plan to keep it this way. On Monday I did the 40 minute workout (its quite old) but let me tell you, im still sore today. And today I did the Burn baby Burn workout and I loved the challenge of the climber’s lunge. It really tested my endurance and muscle strength. Well right now its 9:45 pm in the states so i will have to do this workout tomorrow. I cant wait so i will do it right after i return from college tomorrow. You have been a big inspiration to me in all areas, fitness, health, life, and even relationships. I will definitely follow you on this challenge just to test my will power.

P.S. I have never been as excited as I am this year for bikini season. and its all a result of your great motivation and brutal workouts =)

  • Masha

That is such a great idea to get something that will remind you of your challenge… i love that idea. I am going to start my challenge tomarrow =) im actually excited to do it. i dont own any bracelts so thats even more exciting to get one that will mean something. Thanks alot. And good luck with yours! =)

  • Samantha

I am with you on this. It is one of the hardest things to take out of my diet. I have been eating very healthy and noticing a change in my body from following your workouts. I really appreciate your workouts .. and I am going to follow this challenge!

    :)

hmm I really love the idea of the 30 day challenge!! I think that I will cancel out sweets and something else,oh like I don’t know STICKING WITH SMALL PORTIONS!! Man that is the hardest thing for me to do and I know it sounds silly but I have a real problem with it,. But all of us bodyrockers deserve to look the way we want when summer comes so I’ll just take small steps. But yes even though I don’t have big troubles with sweets I will keep myself clean for a month, and eat half portions :) I am proud of myself though because everyone eats candy at my school all the time and when they give me some I’ll just give it to my friends or my dad :) so can’t wait to start the workout and this new goal. Kinda sad though cuz I do have some cookied my neighbor gave me for valentines day, but I would rather fit good in my jeans :) k well I’m boring so I won’t waste your time, andi know you hear this a lot but thanks again for the inspiration!

    d

  • Shannon L.

No chocolate! What am I going to do with all my Valentines Day candy?
I don’t have much left so Ill just eat what’s left over and not eat any more sugary sweets after that :)

  • Jax

    Like your hair here Zuzana.
Just curious, would be nice if you could tell us which parts of the body are being worked out in some of the exercises. For instance, which part of the quads is being challenged when doing the reverse lunge as opposed to a forward lunge. How does a single leg push up challenge the body from a regular push up–ie, does it force the shoulders to work harder because of the balance issue?
    Thanks!

  • Dakota

    Dear Zuzana and Frederick,

This is incredible! I posted before that I too was having trouble craving chocolate! For a while I had bought myself chocolate every day, and I knew that it wasn’t good. And since celebrating Valentine’s Day on the weekend, I treated myself to too much sugar and sweets.

I vaguely made a declaration to not have any sweets for “awhile” on Sunday night…but it truly WASN’T heartfelt. It’s a little hard to say no to treats. I know that because I swayed at lunch today. I had half a cookie and Subway, but then immediately threw it away because of how bad it made me feel! It’s definitely going to take control and determination to do this!

I think it’s time to take this challenge. I’ll be here with you Zuzana! Here is my FIRM declaration to take part of this alongside you:

I, Dakota, propose to take intense care of my body for the next 30 days. I will not treat myself to chocolate bars, candies, pop, buttery popcorn, greasy potato skins, cheesecake, and so on, but ONLY fuel my body with rejuvenating, healthy, happy, energizing food!

Ok, I’m off to do this Workout!! :D
Thank you Zuzana and Frederick for all of this.

P.S. I wonder if healthier versions of “sweet” recipes count (Such as Irish Bread with honey. I make it with whole-wheat flour, walnuts, and serve it with honey..)? Do I have to stay away from those as well? Up for discussion!

  • Jacqueline Smith

I am totally in with this!! I need a challenge!! Let’s do this!! :)

  • brooke

you’re a huge inspiration to me with your variety of workouts and healthy lifestyle. you’re an idol to me so i’m going to commit and go as long as i can without sugar. keep up the awesome work :)

  • Chandra

Count me in! Hey- does Stevia count? How about honey?

  • Brianna

Hey Zuzana! I’m addicted to working out and watching my diet because of the amazing motivation you give me! I can’t even wait to see what my body will look like for this summer :)

I started this one month challenge of giving up chocolates about a week ago but I made an exception for my friends birthday cake and then the next day on valentines day with chocolate! I decided to restart and do it for real this time with NO EXCEPTIONS besides honey in my tea and fruit of course..

thanks again for your workouts and fitness advice!!! You guys are the best :)

  • Dakota

Oh yes, we can have honey!

I read your paragraph(s) first then respond if I have the urge too! Now I’m watching, so sorry about that!

    =)

  • A. Foxx

I’m in! I have been needing to challenge myself for a while and I think this is the perfect way! I personally have ZERO self control when it comes to eating candy & junkfood which is why I HAVE to workout so much!
Now when exactly does this challenge start? Today? AND you said we were allowed to eat honey & fruit, but what about agave?

  • April

    I’m doing it for 40 days–Lent!

  • Juanette

    Hey Zuzana,
It is funny that you brought this topic up, because I have been doing the same thing with my diet. For me it is chocolate and ice cream (my weaknesses). I have been saying to myself “I need to stop doing this to myself”. I notice that I don’t have as much energy to get through my workouts the next day and it also effects my sleep. You have given me an incentive to challenge my will. Thank you. For 30 days no chocolate or ice cream. I will reward myself with a new workout outfit:) I will post a reminder of my 30 day challenge on my refrigerator and a picture of the outfit I want. So, don’t worry you are not alone. I will keep you posted on my progress.
    Good Luck!

  • Grace

    Hi Zuzana!
I got my Gymboss timer (in pink!) last week and it has been so helpful. The workouts have been amazing! Intense, but amazing. I can already feel myself getting stronger in my sport (figure skating).
I just wanted to tell you that I will be joining you in your challenge! In fact, I’ve decided to give up all sugar and processed foods for the duration of Lent (starts tomorrow). As an athlete, I’ve relied way too much on refined sugar to get a quick boost of energy before training. It’s time to stop because sugar is like a drug! The other white powder drug. :P
Best of luck! I know you can do it. You’re a strong girl. ;)

  • indira

Ok, Zuzana, I am up for this challenge — “No” to chocolates, cookies and other sweet treats for a month starting today ! I have to think of what to reward myself with –havent figured that part yet!!

It will be hard to give up sugar in my tea, though ! Is that ok ? or should I use artificial sweeteners when I have tea ? If so, which one do you recommend –Stevia ?

    Thanks !!

  • indira

Side question — Frederick and Zuzana — are you guys watching the Winter Olympics in Vancouver ? Are you rooting for Canada ?

  • Jayne

OMgosh! that is so weird and awesome. Zuzana I am totally with you on this challenge. I wanted to do this already but I have a nice sweet tooth so I was going to try and go for only one week, but since you want to challenge me I will take that challenge and not eat any sugar not even in my coffee. Yow-zers! I am so psyched about this now. Thanks, by the bye when are you starting tomorrow?

  • Laya

Hi Zuzana or Fredrick :) thanks 4 the great videos. For the challenge can we eat foods with sugar in the nutrition data if it is not listed in the ingredients? Thanks :)

  • http://www.budgetrockstar.blogspot.com Lori

Interesting I’m a sucker for sugar I seem to use raw sugar which much more healthier for you and honey with fruit. But it’s so hard not to do eat less of chocolate and sweets limit yourself often reward yourself for working out for 1 month.

  • Nicole D Lopez

I am so excited to be doing this one month challenge with you! I already had my chocolate today from my left over valentines heart box lol but tomorrow I will start! I hope that you continue to motivate us in your videos because this might be super hard for me. I think that being able to say that I went for one whole month without giving in will be an excellent thing to add to my accomplishments and a definite self-esteem, self-worth and self-believing booster. I can’t wait to tell everyone that I am going to do this!

I would also like to thank you for being so honest with us. It’s not that I want to hear that you are not perfect (which I definitely think you are super close to) and that you fail, it’s just that I like to know and hear that you are a “normal” human being with weaknesses and faults and are committed to fixing them while giving inspiration and hope to others. You are one of the best people I know (of).

Is Frederick going to be involved in this challenge?

And how was y’alls Valentine’s day? Good, I’ll bet :)

    Thanks again!

  • http://foxyburd.blogspot.com/ foxy

Absolutely, I do lent every year even though I am not religious. It is a good test of my willpower and given I am now measuring my bodyfat, it will be interesting to see if it helps in that department.

I also have been eating a little chocolate, but only the good stuff 70% cocoa.

  • Xtina

I am soooo in! (the “chocolate fasting” month, that is). I have my little chocolate treat almost every day, as well, so it makes sense to “cleanse” for a while and it helps to know someone else is also doing this at the same time. Let the challenge begin!

  • Kate

    HI Zuzana,

It is a nice idea to follow a challenge like this. The motivation is really good if we do it together.

Looking forward to a lot more from all of us. :)

    Kate

  • http://www.youtube.com/user/ilovegerardo Iris

Can we use artificial sweeteners? Can you be more specific? Or is this sort of like just common sense type of thing? I would like to accept the challenge, but I want to make sure I am following the rules, if any.

    Thanks!

    Iris

  • Larissa

    Hey!
This is an awesome challenge, I’m so excited!
Just curious, but what happened to the 1 on 1 with Zuzana? I was really excited about that as well.

anyways, love your stuff! You keep me so motivated everyday. I used to be 200 lbs, and I’ve lost 30 so far, on my way to lose 40 more by summer. Another reason why I was excited for the 1 on 1. :P

    thanks for keeping me inspired!

  • Katelyn

I am 17 and am at a normal weight. I always watch your videos, I am personally not in that great of shape to do everything you have done, but I do what I can.
After watching your video about how you want to go on a month of no sugar I thought to myself, is she crazy her body is perfect. Then I came to your blog and read up on why you wanted to do this.
I have been doing the same thing, but I have been eating way more then that is good for me. So you have inspired me to go a month without all that junk food.
I hope we can do this together :D

    Thank you.

  • Paraguayita29

The sound of the rooster in the back remind me my country :(

  • Cecily

I like that you are posing this challenge:) I actually set the same goal for myself about two weeks ago, and have done pretty well. I want it to become more of a lifestyle though so I have been replacing sweets with fruit and have decided to allow myself a small slice of birthday cake if anyone in my family or close friends are celebrating. I have no more exceptions. It’s pretty tough, but I am looking forward to the benefits. My gymboss timer is on it’s way also:)I can’t wait!

  • Wendy Hernandez

I will definitley do this. I have been doing alot drinking. I like Sprite with Vodka and lime. I can drink them everyday. Just one of two, but still all that sugar kills my abs. I have always had a problem with my belly and this could be the problem. Is sugar substitute ok? I like that in my coffee. I love, love, love your workouts. I always thought you had to workout for 2hrs a day to lose weight and look like you, but you have really taught me a thing or two. I have been doing your workouts for 4 wks now and have seen faster results then any other time in my life. I use to go to the gym everyday, but now i just do your workouts and feel amazing and am starting to look amazing. So, thank you Zuzana so much. You are truly amazing.

  • Jennifer H

I do not have a problem saying no to sweets, but salty food is harder. I will join you – no treats for 1 month.

  • Healthy Mama

I am looking forward to your challenge!!Just wondering your thoughts on real fruit versus dried fruit. I am so glad you came up with this challenge because sugar is what I crave the most. Sometimes it is easy to resist but here lately I have been eating alot of dried mango but I know that dried fruit has more sugar because of the drying process. I would love to here you thoughts on this.

    Thanks
    Healthy Mama

    I´ll accept the challenge!! =D
Last year I didn´t acepted but this is a new year and my birthday is comming, so I´ll start my challenge after my birthday! =P
    Liked the workout! ^^
    I´ll try today!

  • stan

Zuzana I am in. I have never been overweight, but I sustained a kneee injury a year and a half ago and have put on about 30 lbs. I love sports and I do like to run and lift. This is the perfect challenge for me. A friend recently told me about your site…its awesome. I will be starting this challenge tommorow along with weight training and cardio. I looked around your site and it stresses hard work and dedication with no excuses. How refreshing!! No promises—just work hard and reap the benefits. Good luck to you in this challenge. I cant wait to start. Good luck to everyone who takes part in this challenge!!!

  • hooked

I was on my way to bed after eating a medium sized bag of cheese popcorn my boyfriend lovingly brought back from Garretts in Chicago. I am now throwing on my shorts and doing this workout…THANK YOU for inspiring me to keep moving each and every day. This is especially good timing because we have been battling a brutal weather in the upper midwest (MN) and by February it is hard to want to even get out of bed some days! I am finally starting to think of working out as my “medicine” for the day and I truly do feel better, even if it KILLS me the whole time..

And finally, how did you know I’ve been stalling on the gymboss?! Seriously. I’m feelin’ it today. And the challenge starts NOW.

You have motivated me to start trusting myself again. I can do this!

    Best,
    Hooked

  • Maja

I look forward to doing this challenge with you!
I have to start after the 26th though. I’m heading off to watch my boyfriend compete at the Winter Olympics in Vancouver! I know I wont be able to resist the treats & drinks. Hopefully we will be celebrating Gold!
    Go Canada!

  • Kenny

This is my first time visiting your website. Here’s a suggestion for improvement: describe what muscles are being used in each exercise. Otherwise, the website is great.

I have a quick question: do you ever go to the gym for strength training and cardio or do you just do the exercises in the videos? Keep up the great work!

  • Tracey

I CAN SEE MY ABS!!!!! Hallelujah!!!!!!

It took me 3 months but I couldn’t have done it without you Zuzana! I’m so happy!!!!! I still have a lot of work to do, having a job where you sit all day doesn’t help but your workouts and positivity make me want to work out! Writing everything down really does help as well. I can’t wait to see what I look like in July!
My biggest hurdle is sweets! So I will take on the challenge and try ( and I do mean try) not to eat sugar for a month, that may be harder to do then your works but I’m up for the challenge:)
Thanks again for everything Zuzana and Frederick! This is a great website which is greatly appreciated!

    Ps…love your dogs!!! So cute!
    Tracey

  • Marianne

Does healthy peanut butter or almond butter count? (just the nuts, not the unhealthy nut butters)

  • Ruth

Yes, yes! Did you see that I posted a day or two ago that I started your 30 day challenge again? I completed day 2 today. My focus isn’t sugar as much as it is eating within my calorie range every day, not mindlessly eating, and not indulging on any sweets, at all. Do you include artificial sweeteners in your challenge?

    Take care!

    Ruth

  • Tracey

Let me rephrase that…….Not eating sugar for a month may be harder to do than your “workouts”.. whoops forgot to proof read :)

    Tracey:)

  • Amber frm Canada

This challenge is exactly what i needed. I’m in!

  • Sam

Question… On the side jump one leg pushups do you do both sides before counting one rep or is each side a rep?

  • Charlie

That’s really funny – I’m already *ON* a one-month challenge! *I* had decided that, in spite of the fact that really dark chocolate is so full of antioxidants, eating it ALL THE TIME is still probably not a good idea. So I’ve been doing it since the 9th. The funny part is that I rarely miss sugary treats when they’re not in the house. Which makes me wonder why I buy them in the first place…

    Good luck!

  • http://www.janetspreiter.com Janet

You talked me into it! No sugars (except honey, which I don’t like) for 30 days. I am scarfing down my last sugar coated dry fruit but I can’t finish the whole 1 pound bag. I hope it lasts for a month because it would be a real shame to have to throw it out! I will tackle this workout tomorrow morning.

  • Megan

I am going to try and join you, I have been eating lots of Chocolate lately too, I am a Dietetic major and I have lots of science classes and research papers consistently. So my point is that my little chocolate stash is my reward, but, i must say good bye for now, I was just driving home today and thinking I should start eating fruit instead. I usually put mixed frozen fruit in a bowl in the fridge, let it thaw and much on that instead.
    Thanks for the reminder:)

during the pushup side jump set, are there a total of 12 pushups, or 24? I did 24 just in case, but my legs were KILLING ME each time.

Good idea! i will try the challenge.

I have a question Zuzana. Which one do you most like from your sport shoes. I am going to buy one shoes just same as yours. But i am wondering should I buy black one or white that you are wearing.

  • Valeria

I will definitelly try, and see how long I can hang. You are an inspiration, and although at first sight your videos make you look somewhat like a bimbo(sorry, it’s kinda true). After much tought, hey you are really not doing anything that other guys in you tube or various magazine do, which is to be proud to have a killer body, thanks to exercise and commitment to be your best. Smart, funny and beautiful. Thank you for being an inspiration to so many women.

    HI Zuzana,

It’s 7:15am here in Greece and I was thinking the same thing this morning. So I am here with you in this challenge. So to clarify you mean no sugar whatsoever for the next 30 days, right? No sweets, no chocolate, not sugar in the tea/coffee, nothing that is considered sweet in general, right?

You know, my wife just yesterday made this great chocolate cake and it’s a shame that I will not be eating it. Do you think I should just eat the whole thing today and start on the challenged tomorrow? (I can pretend I didn’t read your post) – no I am just kidding. I will do it. I could give the cake to some charity or something.

So, for the challenge, should we stop eating just sugar or anything else, like white flour products, or nuts (I tend to eat a lot(10-20) roasted peanuts everyday).

I am starting this challenge from today and I am waiting for further instructions coach.

I just weighted and measured myself. I am 173cm height, 81 cm waist, and 67 kilos. My goal is to get my waist to 76cm and my weight under 65 in the next 30 days. I’ll be posting my progress.

Zuzana and Frederick have a great day.

    Theodore from Greece

Hey Zuzana, I am with you on this challenge! I have been snacking on savory food and to extra sodium is making me bloat, never mind the extra calories!

My boyfriend gave me your site address 2 days ago after I got a bit down about hitting a plateau. I have been following your workouts in combination with my weight training and diet… I must say, I am hurting today! Thank you for doing this! Your ROCK!

  • Swen

    To je výzva!!!
Jdu do toho! Sice nevím,jestli to zvládnu, protože jsem na cukru téměř závislá :)…ale i snaha se cení,nebo?:)
Tak přeji sílu a vůli ;) (jak Tobě, tak i mně :D)

I’m in for the challenge only I don’t eat sugar at all – I’m on honey. But it will be a real challenge still as I’m a choco and ice-cream maniac. I just hope I won’t kill anyone if I catch them eating any of it when I’m around. My son and my hubby are both choco-addicts.
Just wanted to have one thing straight – no sugar means no sugar, no chocolate, no bonbons, no marshmallow, no jelly, right?

  • Natram

wow, i will join you with this challenge, and i must say it will be a difficult 1 indeed, because i luv sweetss and chocolatesss too! :/ But i’m willing to give it a go! Since my birthday is March 20, maybe i can treat myself to a swaroski item as well :D. I will start 2morrow and either you or Frederick r more than welcome to shoot me an email !!! i always look for positive energy:)

  • Petra

I’m in! I’ll do the challenge. I actually started at the beginning of feb and I did well until last week..
What are your thoughts about eating bread like every day/every other day?

  • barkl

I just finished my month of no sugar :-)
Gotta stay away from the oreo’s

  • Laura

I’ll take you up on that challenge! Now I’m gonna do my morning workout – the fast burn workout. I hope I will survive this one! Good luck Zuzana!

  • Ariaana

    Hi Zuzana!

This challenge is a great idea. I’m so up for it! I don’t eat much sugar normally but lately I’ve had these cravings for candy so this challenge has come just in time.

    Thanks for a great website!

  • Marie

    hey Zuzana,
it¨s funny you say that about the chocolate, but Ive been doing exactly the same thing and I do want to put an end to it so Im going for it.

  • http://htpp.bodyrock.tv Karmen

Hey Suzanna i am eating like that for almost 4 years…no sugar…not even in the coffe,no chocholate .no nothing and still i don`t look like you ..haha …!i wanted to ask you if you feel sorrness after your exercises and if you think it is good for muscle ,because i feel it almost every day!

  • http://www.myspace.com/bradremple Brad From Canada

Loved this workout the first time round. better this time.

about the 30 day challenge, i’m actually on a till summer challenge. it’s been 2 months since i’ve had any junk food,( chips, chocolate bars), fast food (except subway just cause it’s my favorite, but not often) and any soda pops or desserts. so far since 2 months ago, with workouts daily, i’ve lost 20 lbs. i figure if i can do a month why not just cut it out completely. my only weakness so far has been beer. haha, oops. don’t think it’s goin anywhere either.

  • Lorena

I want to show the ABS you’re helping me get. How do I get rid of STRETCH MARKS after having a baby? HELP

  • MarinaGR

    Count me in!

  • Dani

    is dark chocolate allowed?

  • Chelsea

    Hi guys!
I’ve been doing your workouts and they’re great (already lost 8 lbs! Yay!). I do need to get myself a gymboss timer or something though because I have no clue how long it’s taking.

And yes, I will definitely take part in the sugar-free month. I’ve always wondered if I could do it, and well, now’s as good a time as any.

    Thank you guys so much!
    Chelsea

P.S.: What exercises would be best for the stomach/hips/inner thigh area? For some reason these areas persist in being difficult for me… Thanks!

  • Dai

I’ll definitely join this challenge. I’ve been eating too much chocolate also. It’s like an impulse, I just buy it for no reason.

  • http://melodyofmozart@hotmail.com MARYY

hi zuzy iam from mexico and iam very skinny and this month iam eatin chocolate bacause i need energy i need muscle in my body i dont know how get more muscle does what can i eat? some suplement especial ?

  • Lin

Hi Zuzana … Count me in. Now I just have to decide what my reward will be! So glad I found your website – you (and Fredrick) have really inspired me. I’ve ordered my timer and can’t wait to get it. Cheers!

  • Christine

    Hey Zuzana.

a one month challenge eh? :-)
    I`m on!!!!
    so what`s the rules,i mean so i don`t make a mistake.
is agave syrup alowed? or popcorn?
this should be fun and really hard.haha.

  • Nadja W.

I think it’s funny that on the Gymboss Website when they ask you “How did you hear about us” you can actually chose “Zuzana” from the list.
Will try to join in on the challenge – but I’m only eating something with some form of sugar only maybe twice a week anyway. I’ll think about it – might find something different I can give up for a month.

  • Marina

I’m in for the challenge :) 30 days starting today… that should be interesting…

  • http://www.facebook.com/carlanunesdacosta?ref=profile Carla

    I am in!!! :))

Just what I needed. I am not suffering with chocolate so much but with dates. I loooove them but too much of a good thing isnt good either.

So yes count me in. 30 days seriously clean :)

  • Linda

I want to follow this challenge. I’ve done this before, and it made a huge shift in my life. I’m excited to do it together with you :)

  • Michaela_SVK

I am with you in challenge, I know that it will be hard, but it´s easier to complete a challenge when you know, that you are not alone :)

  • sara

my gymboss broke on monday( boo hoo) was very sweaty after my workout and think some got in it can you use a timer instead for your workouts ,saving for my new one going to get pink this time.

  • http://www.topsportsgroup.nl Daphne

Hi Zuzana, thanks for offering us to join the challenge! Good plan, although I do not have a sweet appetite (never had) but more a “salty” apetite and therefore eat too much of like cheese and olives and rice snacks… And I take to much light products like cola light and sweets with aspartame, which is by the way – to my opinion – even worse than sugar. Don’t you think?

So, should it be my challenge to skip all the light products for 30 days?

    Cheers,
    Daphne

  • sara

i am going to give up eating peanut butter been eating it twice a day somedays thanks for the insentive to do some thing.

  • http://www.goddesscarlie.com/tag/weight-loss/ GoddessCarlie

No sugary snacks for the next 30 days, I’ll give that a go! However, I’m going to give myself leeway of 4 unhealthy snacks. Just because I think small treats are good for your mind and once a week seems like a good number for a piece of chocolate. It stops feelings of guilt. However, I wont be surprised if I don’t need to eat the sugary snacks!

  • Pieta, Melb., Aust.

    Hi Zuzana and Frederick,

“IF IT IS TO BE, IT IS UP TO ME!”

Yep, I would love to join you. I too have been eating far too much chocolate and way too much tasty cheese. It really helps to have the support of others and know how much agony and depravation we all have to endure to succeed. 30 days will fly by,

My reward will be a new hooded jacket for winter. By winter (only a few months to go) I reckon my old jacket will be way too big.

Looking forward to more killer workouts.

    .

  • Dave

    Hi Zuzana,

I just wanna send you my regards that you are so gorgeous and amazing. With the ad six packs, biceps and arm muscles, you are way too sexy. Please keep doing your things.

    Nuff love,

    Dave.

  • Geodfreid-Manson

    Hi Zuzana:
    Count me in.
Though I do not have many vices.I do like the sweets every so often,
I will refrain from the sweets for one month along with you and the many others who blog here and exercise along with you.

My Suprailliac measurement (that is the skinfold area one inch above the point of your right hip)today is 19MM. The end of December it was 23MM. (I am a 46 year old Man.)
This reading is taken with an Accu-Measure caliper, which is very cheap to purchase and works very well to keep track of your own Body fat content.
In one month with no sugars and continued exercises that you continue to post, I hope to have an measurement of 15MM. My own one year goal is to have an 4-5 MM measurement. (Back to the body fat content I was when I was 26 years old)
Anyone else wanna post their own skinfold measurements?

Who cares what you weigh! That has little bearing on your health and fitness level.

    I Love you,
    I am sorry,
    Please forgive me,
    Thank you.
    Geodfreid.

  • Ray

Dear Zuzana, you are always generous enough to share your wisdom with us, so I offer you some ancient wisdom. You don’t have to let the weather affect your moods. Control your moods with your mind. Attachment and aversion are the key point. If you are attached to “nice” weather and averse to “cold and damp weather” your emotions will be negative. Mind alters body. It takes a lot of effort to alter old habits, as I’m sure you well know, but the great thing is, humans are creatures of habit, so create a different positive habit and it will stick. As for the damp, cold weather, try this. If it’s raining listen to the rain, remember times when the sound of falling rain made you feel good, like being tucked up safe and warm in a tent. Or pretend the rain is pouring down on you as if you are standing under a vast waterfall, the ice cold water takes your breath away for a moment, and you feel connected to your body and the natural world, you feel truly alive. Listen the sound of the wind blowing; it might remind you of the great oceans surf crashing onto a beautiful beach. It’s all about an attitude of mind.Change your thoughts and your emotion/mood will change. Mindfulness Meditation is one way to learn this skill. Your mood is up to you.

    Take a look at: http://www.howtobehappy.org

The info on this web site will also relate to fitness and exercise motivation.

As for the cold weather, get some clothes on Zuzana, you’ll going to catch a cold dressed like that.

Love and best wishes, Ray xxxx

  • Maya

I’m following you! I don’t have problems with eating sugar, it’s weird but I never was a fan of sweet taste (good for me:), also I don’t have problems doing workouts, but I can’t seem to do proper warm up and cool down! That’s just boring to me and I don’t do it properly, so my challenge is to do it properly for a month and after that it should become habit.

I’m gonna walk my dog now and than do your workout!

Also, problem for me is that I can’t buy this timer, and I can’t find any like that one here in Serbia. I can’t buy it because of the shipping cost, Serbia has ‘great’ police about shipping. That sucks, but I’m gonna try to do it with stopwatch and reps always.

Good luck to all of you out there and good luck to me! :)

  • mariam

    Hi!
I go for that challenge again!!! I did that that for 2 months and it gave good results.

    So… from NOW!;)

How often per year do you this kind of challenge?

  • Sveta

O yeach! I have been waiting your
    offer. I’m with you.

    Hi Zuzana

Your workouts are really killers but in the best way ever ….i really do hope if you have the time to give me some piece of advice regarding how to speed up my metabolism …oh and do you also go to the gym and which muscular groups do you workout frequently…i also tried that breakfast of yours but instead of 5 eggs i put just 2 because for me it’s a little too mutch,,,you could try doing your breakfast putting some carrots and onion and also pepper and steam them with the egs and it has a wonderful taste… try it !!!

  • Vilivil

If oats meal, low fat yoghurt or low fat cottage cheese with fruit chunks aren’t considered treat, then count me in. And I am doing this with a Cadbury in my desk :D

  • Tali R.

    Hi Zuzana,

Thank you for not resting today, i was waiting for you workout. feel great. i did it in 17:20!!!! I pushed myself because the last two workouts i was 2 minutes after you. so i guess this is what push me to good time. :-)

about the challenge: what about honey and white flour? all of th e white carbs have sugar

    Thank you

    Tali

  • Frederick

    I’m in!

  • http://www.bodyrock.tv/ Zuzana – BodyRock.Tv

No, get used to it baby ;) It’s possible. I thought that I will never make Frederick to drink his coffee without sugar, but I did! If he can do it, then anyone can. You can put a little bit of milk in it.

  • http://www.bodyrock.tv/ Zuzana – BodyRock.Tv

Ha :) I had a piece too yesterday, the challenge starts from today for me.

  • Frederick

congrats! those are killers to do :)

  • Sadi

Let’s bring it on!! ;o) This will be no problem throughout my dat but it will be at night when my ‘sugarcraving’ will start so it is going to be tough!! I will have some carrots or an apple instead.. Zuzanna or anyone else; Suggestions to beat sugarcravings are welcome!!! Maybe we can give eachother some inspiration, and a kick in the butt too ;o). Good luck to all of us Hot Bodies out there

  • Frederick

Hi – the workouts will help you with your metabolism. We don’t workout at a gym – just what you see here on the site :)

  • http://www.facebook.com/Pisana?ref=profile#!/Pisana?ref=profile Pavlina

I don’t believe in restrictions but I’ll follow your progress. I am a huge chocolate fan, that is true, real, dark and good quality single origin (preferably) cocoa. I have a tiny piece of ‘junk’ chocolate every now and again.

Good luck, you already look super lean so you proved that you can follow a strict diet.

  • Sven Neumann

I could skip the sweets easily, but not sugar in my coffee. I take two spoons AND have a ton of it each day. That’s easily 6+ spoons a day!

I will try cutting down to one spoon, but I can’t stand it without sugar! And I do need my coffee!

  • http://www.planetegymernee.com Ericka

Hi, I’m fitness’s instructor. With my boyfriend, we have a fitness center. Your fitness’s life is our fitness life. I like good nutrition and we do a lot of sports. Your challenge is very exciting. We just start 2 weeks of good nutrition (since monday) so your challenge can help me if sometimes it will be difficult. Thanks and good luck ’cause it’s not so easy!

  • Alexandra

    Hi Zuzana,

As always you keep inspiring us!

I am fasting until the beginning of April ( a religion thing ), I follow a vegan diet and one week before the end of the fast I plan to do a detox week – water only fast. I tried it before but failed because you need to rest during those days but I am very much into fitness so kept my exercise routine until got very weak and broke my fast.
This time I plan to do a rest week during my detox and the reward thing you are suggesting will really keep me motivated!
I think that fasting is a really good way of keeping a good health. What do you think?
Of course it is very challenging, and sometime does not agree with very active gym people ( I am a PT my self) as of course it rips you off energy and slows down your metabolism, but the benefits you get afterwards I think are worth in the end.

Could you possibly open a discussion about this in your next video? It would be nice to have more nutrition and diet conversations on your website as a lot of people forget that diet is as important as exercise to keep the weight off, stay healthy and fit.

I think also when fasting you become more aware of your body and feel closer to your soul – if you know what I mean ( I must say I am not some kind of “ religion freak”), it also makes you a better person and boosts your confidence.

As of a reward for the detox challenge, I need to think what I would like it to be.

At last thank you guys for reading my long post, you both are great!

    Keep well,
    Alexandra

    Hi Zuzana,

I’m up for a challenge! But, I don’t eat much sugar…so what can I give up instead? Walnuts? Gees, that would be hard! What should I give myself? I don’t wear jewelry…maybe some Kettlebells or something like that?

I hope you’re feeling better. Sometime the rain here (Seattle) gets me down…it can be pretty bad especially in winter with the cold and early darkness.

    –Chris

  • http://ozziepossum-diyhealthfitness.blogspot.com/ ozziepossum

This sounds like a great idea. I tend to go for a week without any type of sugar then have a little chocolate. Sadly I haven’t yet managed to educate my partner to NOT give me chocolate when I’m feeling a bit flat. He thinks chocolate will always put me in a good mood, and he is right!

So far, I’ve managed to cut out the daily chocolate bar and the sugar from my coffee, so I’ve made great headway in the past few months.

Summer is almost over for us Aussies, :( I love summer, and HATE the idea that winter will soon be here. I tend to get very grumpy over the colder months so Zuzana, I’m hoping you will continue to give me a “pep talk” each day!

    Love Dee

Aussie, Aussie, Aussie, stay away from the choccie!

  • Berry

OK, count me in!! This is going to be a major challenge for me but that’s what it’s all about eh?!

I’ve got a baby shower on Saturday that’s going to seriously put me to the test (i.e. cake bonanza!) – but I’m gonna stay strong!!

    Thanks for the inspiration Zuzana!

  • Tina

    Hey Freddy and Zuzie!

Zuz, are you feeling better today? Did you felt better yesterday after the workout, did the workout change your mood to positive? I had bad day to…no reason why…
Seems like we are conected somehowe, since I also decide the same thing for challenge, heh, really funny. Although I was not so surpsised we did the same thing, we must think alike since we are living the same active life, haha :D…and yes, there was Valentine`s and you know – those donuts (we dressed in masks yesterday – I am sure you know what I am talking about – and donut is a must…:D) – well, I had to do smth. about it too, so I am starting it today too – this challenge. I like it, feeling better already for myself. I will make it, I know, I have a strong feeling about it. I have to make up with some gift, don`t know yet what will I pick. It will be something nice for sure.

Hey girl, what was your score – I means time for this workout yesterday? Tell!
I was doing it today, for my third time already!
First time I was doing it on November the 7th (20 min), second time I was doing it on January the 24th (19 min!) and today I did it in 17 minutes and 12 second!!! YEEEEEY!

So happy, this time makes my day today :D

    Be good,

    Tina

  • Charlie D.

I did it in 18:44:67. I could have done the ab exercise more quickly, but I felt like if I did it any faster, I was just sort of bouncing around and not really working. My ipod was into irony today: “”You’ve Got Me Working Day and Night”, “Stay (Just a Little Bit Longer)”, “I’m So Tired” – it made me laugh. Again, you rock. I’m totally happy you posted today. I put on those jeans this morning – you know those jeans that every girl has that you have to go through all sorts of gymnastics just to get your bum and thighs inside the pants? Well this morning I just pulled them on with no problem. I feel so toned and confident – I honestly can’t thank you two enough.

I have a “sweets” question: are dates legal? I’m living in the Middle East right now and a lot of times people give you a date as you leave their store or something – it’s kind of rude to refuse. I don’t eat them that often, but now and then…what do you think? I promise to abide by your ruling.

    Thanks guys! You rock!

    NO SUGAR
After my gorgeous 35 year birthday party I gave myself a wonderful present which I want to keep for the rest of my life: I put sugar and coffee out of my diet. There is permission for one sweet thing and that is honey and very occasionally milk pudding. I use milk puddding in the sugar crisis that take over during my periods, once or twice a month.Other than that, ıt has been 5 months now and I had at most two or three pieces of sweet things because of birthday parties but absolutely no coffee.
I did not lose weight as I did not need to but somehow all my friends say I look slimmer and my skin looks brighter…But I think the most important thing is that my body feels much lighter and fitter since I do not overburden it and yes with all those cakes and my little choclate addiction I used to feel heavy and uncomfortable.
I think I am more in command of my blues…yes they happen but it is as if I have more energy and sunshine in me to lift myself up in a shorter time…
I like to respect my body..And I am very proud of myself that I have this discipline:))Thank God!!!
I have never thought of buying myself a present, what a wonderful idea Zuza:))
One tip: If u are dying for something sweet, it is best to get plain yoghurt, slice some fruits in it (esp. bananas and berries are good), you can also add nuts (wallnuts are great), some honey and cinnamon… refrigrate it for a while and tell me if it does not taste fresher and sweeter than all the sugar loaded stuff outside…
Another: Cook some oats in milk-you could put some semolina for texture(but I think they require longer cooking time than oats)..add honey, cinnamon, coconut flakes and fruits of your choice…and here u go:))

  • Charlie D.

Just do what’s up here every day. I was a little skeptical at first too, as I used to exercise for a lot longer every day (albeit at a much lower intensity) but I’ve been doing them since the end of November or so and I can see such a change in my body and my strength and my energy and the way my clothes fit, etc., etc. Don’t forget about your portions though!! Good luck!

  • liz

I’m In! Its going to be hard not to have sugar in my coffee!!! Sweets and cakes and choc’s wont bother me but I can’t seem to drink coffee without sugar!!! So I shall start my 30 day challenge tomorrow… Good Luck to all that are taking the CHALLENGE… x

    Charlie,

People who know me do not believe that I came from a household where you drank a cup of tea with a soup spoon of sugar or two when it came to coffee!

If anyone had told me a few years ago that I’d drink my stuff pure, I’d say they are crazy.

    You can do it :))

Thanks for all your motivation, dedication and work!
    You changed my life :)

    Huge love, Meike from Germany

    Hey!!

I´m so in!!! This is exactly what I need!! I spend the whole january without eating any treats, but then february came and suddenly I have noticed that I have been eating chocolate, cookies and buns :/ And ´cause 15 of March is my birthday (will be 21 then :D :D) this will be the best birthday gift I can give myself. I´m already keeping february as a non alcohol month :D And I´m liking it a lot!!

I´m now training for half marathon and these workouts are great add to my usual running. I also love to read your blog daily and see what you have been writing on. Could you refresh you daily diet to the diet site? Its weird reading them and then read that you have change you diet. And by the way, do you work at home or in a office? `cause that can also have impact to your diet.

  • http://lucky2505.jimdo.com Simone

Sounds great. I’ll try it. Besides, I did Zuzana’s “fat assassin workout” yesterday morning. Without the intervals because I will get my Gymboss at the end of the week ;-), so I changed a bit the reps:
    1. Ninja Jump Tucks 10 reps
    2. Half Burpee with Push up 10 reps
    3. High knees (10reps) and drop down 10 reps
    4. Reversed Crunches 20 reps (feel it today ;-))
    5. Side step ups (ca. 50-55cm) 15 reps per leg
I did 4 rounds of these and it really boosted my metabolism that high… This is really killing every single calorie =).

  • katerina

  • thefightertiger

this will be super great for me since i have this type of body ‘insulin resistance” which store fat in my lovely handles so no sugar for the next month will be super great, but for sure i’ll be eating fruits, but there is some thing i must face, i like to cook desserts and at this weekend i must bake two different desserts cheesecake and chocolate tart. if i can survive this weekend then i can keep it for the whole month, no sugar, not even honey, only fruits….best of luck to you Zuzana and every one here, and best of luck to me too but know this, i wont have any more sugar starting tomorrow morning becuz i have already had honey this morning….
    keep us updated

  • Sarah

Count me in. It’s gonna be hard since I take sweet coffee everyday. But I’ll try my best since I’m kinda eyeing some new skinny jeans =)

And I agree with you about the good feeling you get after a workout and shower. I usually just snuggle in bed with a good book and enjoy myself after a hard workout. That’s the best feeling in the world!

Hey everyone – she said what is considered as sugar and what not. Come on, it is just common sense!

    YES, you can eat jogurt,
    YES, you can eat fruit,
    YES, you can eat meat…
    .
    .
    .
    ——————————-
    NO, you can`t eat candies,
NO, you can not eat cookies,
NO, you can not eat cake,
    .
    .
    .

    Yeah..don`t cheat!

Still am looking for a crayon drawing of the gymboss set up:)

Cool! I am up for any challenge, especially one that will show results. I too have been getting into sweets on a regular basis and now it’s a habit. This weekend was crazy, a friend came to dinner and brought along a chocolate cheesecake, small but I had way more than I needed. No more chocolate or sweets in our house and if my boyfriend asks I’ll just tell him Zuzana said so.

I was so sore today from the last Interval WO and really did not feel like working out at all, however my boyfriend and cat gave me some kind encourgament and I did the Fierce WO, and knocked 2 minutes off my time at 16 mins even. I feel so great now, loads of positive energy.

I’ve been doing your routines since mid-November and I cannot believe how strong and fit I have become. It is incredible, my posture is better, my energy levels are through the roof and I can do Ninja Jumps and Pull ups now. I can’t wait to buy a new bikini for the summer. Thank you so much!

  • Yoyo Choy

Hi zuzana! I’ve been following your website and I take
your challenge! I’ve been on a yoyo diet and l ifestyle my
whole life and I would really want to change…problem is I really don’t know how:( hope this one month challenge can finally motivate me to quit sweets! My sweet tooth has got to go! I’ve got all kinds of cravings that I can’t control
Eating has become so stressful I don’t enjoy food anymore:( What advice can you give? Thanks!

  • Gabriella

    Hey!
I’m definitely in and happy to have a “buddy” to do it with as i’ve been wanting to do this again. I managed doing this 2 years ago, and I can tell you from the very bottom of my heart that I’ve NEVER felt as good as i did then! It was amazing and wish everyone could try it at least once in there life. When i then tasted chocolate after that month i got such a sugar shock that it made me ill!!
I have one question though, what about wine? For best results no alcohol should be consumed really, which is a pity but ultimately it makes that much more of a difference!

    Good luck everyone!

    Gaby

  • Eva

Ok I’m in ! I needed to cut out the sugar from my diet so it’s a great motivation to do it with other people.

Zuzana you said “bonbon”? because that’s what we say in France too :)

  • gerri

by the way my motivater has been, I have my ladies from oxygen magazine cut out and hung inside my cupboards, that way when I go to look I see them and ask myself if I am really hungry or just bored. It works for me, my kids think its crazy and being that I am away on business this week, I am sure the pictures will come down.
This website is my facebook!! have become obsessed with the workouts, love that I can be here in Atlanta and have all I need to workout!!
    Thank you again!!

    I’M IN! ;)

You inspire me so much. Thank you!

  • Michelle

    Hi Zuzana!

I will try for the challenge, but it will be so hard for me! The hard part will not be what I eat at home because the only sweets I usually have are natural sugars like honey or maple syrup but outside the home… its another story!! I promise to try though and will be honest to myself!
By the way, thanks for reminding us of summer because it’s really helping me to push myself harder, especially because this time of year in Quebec it’s really hard to remember that there actually is a summer!!! Thanks for the challenge and the workout!

    Hi Zuzana,

I write from Mallorca, Spain. For several days I see your videos and I love them.
I would like to ask you a question. I measure approximately 1.70m and weight 46 kg.
My problem is that I work many hours sitting, and even at night I will run (or at least I try) and gained much from the hips.

I would like to learn some technique, or advice that you can give me to work in depth in this area.

    Thank you very much.
    You’re great!

Wow, perfect timing Z! My boyfriend bought us plane tickets to Key West for Valentine’s Day and we leave in exactly 35 days :) I would really like to lose those last 10 lbs before then! Just a few questions…

Can you give us some tips on how you manage your cravings and maybe some substitutes you use?

Also, I just got a sample of “Protein Freeze” in the mail today. It’s a protein powder that you mix with water and peanut butter and freeze to make “ice cream” There’s only 2gm of sugar in it and 22gm protein. Can I pleeeease have it? haha Maybe you can check it out and tell me what you think.

    Thanks for your inspiration <3

  • Kate

    Hi Zuzana and Frederick!

First, I just want to say how completely life-changing your site and workouts have been for me, even as someone who has been seriously working out for years. I have started keeping a journal and am SO excited to go back and beat my old personal bests!

I’m wondering if you would start including your times when you repeat a workout? I think it would be really motivating to see how much improvement is possible :)

Thanks so so much for all of the hard work you put into this site!

  • SM

I’m in!! I had my first cup of coffee without sugar today, was tough but I can get used to it. Had no sugar at all today just a little bit of honey with my oats this morning. Hope I can make it without my dark chocolate though :((

    hello suzana,

what a pleasure when I discovered your blog! I am pregnant (I am in my last month) and I was looking for some good ideas and some exercise I will do when I could. And I adooore your methods. I am so impatient to start your exercises..! in waiting, I will do your challenge!!!

  • Kyra

    I’m in!

I talked it over with my husband last night and we are giving up fast food, which is our vice, as well. We made a calendar with our goals and personal prizes to help stay motivated.

Thank you for challenging us Zuzana and Frederick!

  • Miss Muller

:( i just discovered this website. This does not sound positive but i will start in March. I need to prepare myself well in advance;)

  • Vicky from Cambridge

Let’s do it, I’m in. Two years ago I had a proper lent with no sweets, had all vegan diet with oil being allowed on weekends only. That was really tought. I’m sure I can live without sweets just for one month.

Good idea Zuzana, thank you for being such an inspiration.

  • Helen

I used to always put sugar in my coffee. I drink soy milk on a regular basis, so i started to put it in my coffee without the sugar. it took me about 2 cups to get used to it and i have been doing that since. i buy the vanilla flavor. good luck

  • Minerva

Gee, Dearest Zuzana, I cant even begin to tell you how you have transformed my mornings. I have been dedicated to working out 5 to 6 days a week for 4 years now but my workouts were becoming a DRAG! I had been looking and looking to change my routines and then one day out of nowhere I came across your website…go figure…and here I am. However I am sorry to say that I don’t think its a good think for me to join you on the no sugar for one month challenge. Let me explain why and maybe others out there can share comments. I have tried these no sugar breaks several times in my life. In my teens I even went a year, yes, a full year without any chocolate. For me, I have found that I tend to binge more on sugar after the time is over. Just the thought of not being able to have any sugar makes me want more sugar than I would ever normally consume. I binge and consume more sugar and other junk after the time limit is over than I would have ever done so if I allowed myself the occasional treat. So you say you are having a piece of chocolate daily and that it is a concern to you, I have a totally different opinion on this….SO WHAT!!! The rest of the world would die to have chocolate daily and look as hot as you at the same time!! Did you ever stop to think about this? It’s not like your chocolate is deterring your fitness goals girl. I think your chocolate is actually helping you. Really think about this deeply. I lost about 50 pounds in 2 years having a small piece of chocolate EVERYDAY. Once you begin to deprive yourself of the things you enjoy then I honestly believe that somehow on an unconscious level it affects your ultimate goals. So if you are pushing yourself hard, to be in your best shape for this summer I think you will do better with the chocolate than with out. Food for thought.

  • Nik

    OkOkOkOkOk :-D
I’m in too! But it won’t be easy … unfortunatelly, three of my relatives have birthday parties this month = cakes, sweetnesses etc. Maybe, right because of this, it will be a really good challenge ;-)

    So: starting 17. 2. 10

    Good luck to everyone!!!
    Nik

  • Mel

I first ran across your Web site after seeing a video on YouTube, and I have been visiting regularly for about a month. I really like the fact that your workouts are short and simple and do not require the use of a lot of complex and expensive equipment. It’s proof that noone really has an excuse to not get healthy and fit. Here’s hoping you and this site becomes even more popular.

Now, this challenge, I’m in. I don’t know how I’ll manage with no sugar in my coffee, but I guess that if I could get used to the taste of coffee with sugar, I can get used to it without sugar.

  • asuka

hi!!! I find this site one month ago and i like it I´m mexican and I want to have a healthy body I´m studyng medicine and I think that a good doctor should have a good body to example of the patients, thanks for do it. (sorry for my bad english )

I’ll take this on! Only one problem… it’s my birthday in about 2 weeks and several people will be buying me cake! It would be rude to not have some of my own birthday cake… so I know I’ll have to cheat a little bit.

Challenge accepted! And I raise others on this site another- to work out with Zuzana’s workouts a minimum of 5 days a week! If no daily workout is posted, and you have only worked out 4 days, for example- then, you have to go to the archive!

I too have been nibbling on a little bit of 70%-80% cocoa Lindt chocolate nearly every day- making the excuse that there is not that much sugar in it (because it tastes rather bitter) but there is actually still a lot of sugar in it. I don’t like how granulated sugar makes me feel in general so I don’t add it to my diet other than if it is in the foods I eat- and if there is granulated sugars it means then that it is processed food, so I avoid that in general, however, I do use a natural sweet leaf plant to sweeten things- called stevia when I get a sweet tooth. If anyone knows anything I don’t about this being bad for my health in some way, please inform me- but until now (years of use) I haven’t heard anything concerning- it’s all natural, and I use a tiny amount daily so I think this is a really good alternative if you want to add a little sweet to something- mostly I use it in my coffee. This product may be hard to find in some places (this is another very political product, as it rivals the sugar empire- I mean, industry!) however, most health/organic stores probably carry stevia, or some version of it. Be warned, it comes in rather small bottles or containers (I like the powder version) that seem expensive but it lasts a really long time because it is VERY sweet.

As part of limiting my sugar intake- I will omit/limit dairy- since it converts to sugars. Many yogurts contain extra sugar- and quite a lot of it! I will also be sure that any cereal (other than oats) have no sugars. I sometimes eat a bowl of Fiber First (0 sugars), or puffed wheat (0 sugars) with a tiny amount of organic skim milk.

To try to satisfy a sweet tooth without eating full out sugar candies- I bought some ‘sugar free’ candies in the diabetic section of the store once- which, as a warning to anyone else who thinks about doing this- THIS WAS A BAD IDEA. There are quite a lot of sugar alcohols in these products (and who knows what else- fake sugar and other chemicals)- which is really hard on the stomach, and only made me feel really bloaty and extremely crampy! I suffered all day, so I stay away from that now.

  • Kyra

What about some honey? Organic from a specialty store is best but soo expensive : ) If your farmers markets are open they have the tastiest honey for the lowest price AND your supporting local bees ^
    0(||)~
    v

I don’t think that artificial sweeteners are for everyone. When my husband has a diet pop or even something with an overzealous amount of High-fructose corn syrup he gets agitated and kind of paranoid even :/ This might be because artificial sweeteners confuse your system by making it think that it has to break down sugars without there actually being sugars their to process.

This is one of those hot button issues with lots of “proof” on each side (just like eating before bed :). Are there any nutritionists who can weigh in? Or odes anyone out there have a strong opinion on the matter?

  • Kyra

Not with added sugar (check the ingredients) but natural with some fruit is super good. If you’ve never had it before it has kind of a sour cream taste to it.

Zuzana and Frederick, I have a suggestion:
that you put together a video posting on the sugar industry and the negative environmental and health effects of sugar production and consumption, and the global obesity problem that is the unhealthy side effect of the ‘globalization’ of high-sugar processed foods.

  • Janilyn

Yeahh let’s do it!! I’m ready to start doing something abt my sugar intake!!! Ready to take up the challenge. No more weekly cakes!! Has always been a weakness fr me. My reward will be a trip with my bestfriend to Bangkok!:D can’t wait. Starts today!!! Let’s go!!(: usually during tournaments, we wld encourage each other by saying “jiayou!!” let’s hope all of us will come out victorious!! Our rewards are waiting……

  • Kyra

    Sadi,

Well, I’m going to try to log onto the site whenever I’m daydreaming about yummy fast food :P*

These tricks have also worked for me in the past: do ten jumping jacks or push-ups, drink a large glass of water, try not to watch commercials they are full of ads for deliciouse looking treats becuse well…ads work, and finally keep yoruself satiated with small helthy meals just like Zuzana suggests; sometimes I find myself snacking on high sugar foods while cooking because I’ve waited too long to feed myself and my body is craving energy.

Best of luck!! and thank you community for all the positive mesages!!!!

I accept your challenge Z! And my reward will be to look killer for my trip to Las Vegas in a month!

  • Marlene from Italy

    Hi Maya,
I feel the need to comment your post, ’cause I find the way you are going to personalize Zuzana’s challenge great.Everyone should do that. I’m not a sweet tooth too, but I do have my little piece of extra-bitter chocolate fast every day with my after-lunch coffee, it’s more a kind of medicine than a treat to me, since it contains lots of antioxidants. I think I’m going to personalize this challenge too (maybe going to bed earlier might be a good idea, eh eh…)
As far as the timer is concerned, someone had posted this link some time ago: http://www.beach-fitness.com, where you can use and even download a tabata-timer free. I’m using it too, and I think it works perfectly.
If you need a generic timer, here is another link: http://www.speedbagforum.com/timer, you can use it on-line or download it free too, it works even as a tabata-timer, but only for a limited number of rounds.
    Hope this helps.

And thank you Zuzana and Frederick, and all the Bodyrockers too!

  • Audra Gatti

Make sure to add some protein with your apple or carrots otherwise you’ll be hungry again shortly therafter. Try 12-16 raw almonds with your apple or add blueberrries, rolled oats & raw almonds to your plain yogurt for added sweetness and texture for that sweettooth of yours. Don’t forget to drink a glass of water with your snacks too for added fullness and hydration.

  • Jayme

I’m going to do the one month challenge with you too!!! Starting today! =]

  • Gymrat

    Stevia….10X’s sweeter than sugar !!!

  • Samantha

Hi Zuzanna and Freddie, sorry to hear Zuzanna was feeling down its horrible when you have those days. I’m with you on the sugar thing too. My husband and I did this for six weeks before xmas and it was hard to start with but then you get out of the habit and it gets easier (famous last words).

I finished this workout in 18:12 and my previous time from November was 21:19 so once again very happy thank you.

  • Lvette

    Frederick & Zuzana,

Count me in. I need to hold myself accounting about what I put in my mouth, After a great workout with WYRD on Monday, I gorge myself on chocolate cookies (20 cookies) all day Tuesday. What a waste of my hard work, what was I thinking.

Where is what I do with my coffee. Instead of water, I use one cup of low fat soy milk or skim milk then add 1 tablespoon instant coffee granules. I find this way I don’t need to add sugar. I only drink one cup of coffee a day (in the morning) so I am not sure how this will work for real heavy coffee drinkers.

Anyways, back to the treats. I felt so bad after eating those cookies and I am still beating myself for it. So, people why do this to ourselves. The enjoyment from the treat is only temporary but the negative consequence of eating it is huge.

My husband gave me a great advice. His advise is that before I eat junk food I need to think about it for at least 10mins. Consider the pros/cons and if after doing this I still want the treats wait ten more minutes before eating the treat. I did that last night; and I garbage the rest of the chocolate cookies. Eating is one of the things we automatically sometimes without thoughts.

Have a wonderful day you all!!.

  • Ruth

    Hi guys,

    My time was 19:06, difficulty 4.25 ;)

  • VikiSil

Just want to specify if dried fruit, like raisins and dried apricots count for sugar, or are they allowed? With the right supplements and extra chrome this challenge is quite doable. I did it for more than half a year last year. I did however eat dried fruit to get extra caloric density, because I tend to eat vegan and raw, and getting enough calories per day can be a challenge in that case.

  • Fawn

    I am in,

I am going to Vegas next month so this is exactly what I need to help me reach my goal.

p.s I love to run and I am in shape but was finding it difficult toning up, so I started your workouts about 3 weeks ago, and wow what a difference it has made already.

    Thanks,
    from canada

  • Janilyn

Oh btw, some things that I find helps my sugar cravings are organic soy milk in the nights and grapes!(:

  • Mickela

I was away for 2 weeks with no access to the internet.
just returned from a sailboat race. I really missed coming here and following your workouts.
In terms of giving something up for the next 30 days, sugar is not a problem for me, it’s wine which I will give a good shot at giving up, I know it affects my performance.

Good luck to all the next 30 days.
    Mickela

Excellent, this is just what I need. One month of no sugar or overly fatty food. I think I will get myself a new pair of jeans at the end of this. :) And a new bikini if I can do 2 months.

    Best regards…..

  • Lnz

Just discovered your site while browsing some Concept2 videos. Very nice. I look forward to trying some of your challenging workouts to compliment my rowing regiment. I’m also going to share the word with like-minded friends about your site. Thank you!

  • ada

hi Zuzana there is a lot of people telling you how nice you are and I’m whit sorry for my writing i agree with all of them you bless my life with your site i love how sincere you and your husband are

  • Christy

Hi Zuzna and Freddy- I am so in for the challenge. I am going to Hawaii in April for one of my friends wedding that I am in and of course the girls that are also in the wedding party are trying different things to get in beachbody shape by then too. I think this is the kind of challenge I need but will find it difficult because my kids love to cook and bake so I am going to have to tell them to hide it so I don’t see it:) My question for you guys is this, I was reading the box of raisin bran that I wanted to have for breakfast and it had sugar as well as the milk. So could you please define the specific things that are off limits? Is it just treats or is it any food that contains sugar? I hope that with this challenge it will make a difference in the extra 10 lbs I have wanted to lose since the birth of my fourth child. Hope to hear from you-Thank you!!

  • Amandafit

    Zuzana,

I will accept your challenge. My downfall is regular coke. I only have about one total a day…but I can’t seem to break that habit. I do have one question. I do eat peanut butter which contains a small amount of sugar. Can I still eat it?

    Thank you!

    Amanda

  • Shelley

    Hi Zuzana!!

This is my second week doing your daily challenging workouts and I LOVE IT! I have recommended this site to everyone I know and will continue to do so :) Every day I look forward to this site to see what today’s challenge is going to be. Thank you for your motivation, commitment and inspiration. We need more people like you in this world!

Question: Am I missing where you post how many sets/reps to do for this workout??

    Thanks,
    Shelley

  • Kelly

    Hey Lynn,

Do you have any tips for those of us who can’t do ANY yet? How did you progress to being able to do one?

  • Leslie

When are you starting the month without sugar?

  • Ashley from Canada!

Hello! Great challenge Zuzana! Oh boy this is going to be a challenge that I have never attempted before. But like you, I used to smoke too, and if we can get through that we can get through anything. Cheers to our health! So I will be starting Feb 17 (today) ( i am a day late). We can do it guys!

  • Ashley from Canada!

Nighttime is the worst for me too! You know what I do sometimes is I have whole wheat toast with natural peanut butter and dried raisins on top. The raisins are sweet so it helps for my sweet cravings, but it is all natural.

  • lissie

I think I’ll take you up on your challenge too. I don’t really have a problem with chocolate (I think I’m the only woman whose boyfriend didn’t buy her any for Valentine’s Day, lol), but I’m terrible when it comes to sugary drinks, especially fruit juice and punch. Ontop of that I’m also going to kick eating out at all, even on the nights I’m too tired to cook. I want to run a 1/2 marathon in June and I know my body needs to be in top condition. So here’s to the toughest thirty days I’ve ever faced, lol.

  • http://bellacathryn.blogspot.com Cassie

I’m totally on board with this. It used to seem hard to me, but it’s really all mental. I used to NEED my coffee sweetened, but I’ve really grown to love black coffee. I’ve also cut my coffee consumption by half and replaced it with a chai green tea. So tasty. Love your workouts!

  • Abdel

    un très bon travail zuzana!
je n’ai pas réussi à te battre dans les répétition. je vais te suivre concernant le sucre.
merci pour le bonheur que tu me donnes! tu es en page d’accueil de mon navigateur, je te dis bonjour tous les jours!

    bisous!

  • Lucka Mantra

You can try using stevia. It has a taste that you have to get used to but it is great because it is just the leaf of a plant and is up to 300 times the sweetness of sugar, also, medical research has also shown possible benefits of stevia in treating high blood pressure and diabetes. As I said, the taste is a bit weird, but if you NEED a sweet boost on this challenge, it could work for you :)

  • Tina

So, I mentioned this challenge to my boyfriend today and he said he is gonna buy me a very nice silver ring if I will succed. I think that`s really nice gift and I am motivated even more now :D.

    Best,

    Tina

  • Georgeanne

Count me in too! I have done this before so I know it can be done and for those who feel tempted by the call of the chocolate gods or any other sweet just don’t keep it in the house. If you don’t have it around you will learn to do without and reach for something you should have, out of sight-out of mind mentality. Good luck to everyone who is on board for this challenge!

  • Lucka Mantra

Hi Autumn, Im just under 5 feet also and I weight between 98-100 pounds (depends on the day ;) I feel good about this weight, but Iam actully working on building more muscle so eventually I hope to weigh more (in muscle, not fat :)

  • BM

Hi Zuzana this is a great challenge I have a question how the Birth control (IUD Mirena ) will affect for reach the six pack or loose a tiny muffin top? Because I’m eating clean and I workout every single day (6 a week) and little problem still and I’m thinking will be this(IUD)

  • Nathalie

    YES,
I’m totally with you for the challenge !
    Let’s go !

  • http://239jordan Maggie

HI,just wanted to let You know that You are great !!!!
For months I’m trying to get motivated to do something with myself and always looose . Thank You that You inspire all of us !!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am in ……….it will be so hard
    xoxo

  • Ana

    Hi Zuzana,
Thank you for the great exercises, I’ve really enjoyed doing them. I was wondering if you’ll be doing any videos targeted on different areas, for those of who have injuries in other areas. For example I have knee injury so I can’t do many of the exercises, and I’m always a bit hesitant to try something new because I’m not sure if it affects that area.
    Thank you!

  • Lucka Mantra

Im in! This is gonna be a great challenge! End date: St. Patrick’s Day :)

  • Julie

    OK I’M IN TOO!
This will be hard… ; ) I dont know if i can miss my morning hot cocoa that easyly… I hate coffee! I just want to add that because of all your brutal, psycho, earn your shower type workout I no longer have a jello-type butt… LOVE YOU! ; ) Keep’em coming…

  • Angela

    Zuzana,

I am confused…. when you say no sugar – do you mean anything with added sugar like breads, or do you just mean no treats and pure sugar?

I really want to do this – I just want to be clear on the challenge.

    Thanks!
    Angela

  • Raina

I’m totally in too!!! I’m so glad u do this challenge again so I can follow=)
I also tried this workout today and it took me 22min and 07 secs =)
    Thank u guys!!!

  • Sophie

This sucks. I really want to do the one month challenge, but I’m only 18, so I live with my mom and she is a control freak and litteraly forces me to eat (my will is strong but not as strong as hers…) ever since she thinks i have a problem with food and am too skinny. I am still gonna cut down on cookies and chocolate though!

  • Stephanie

I just came across this site about a month ago and I have read SO much.
I have a question…. I am 5″3 and 123 lbs with a goal weight of about 110. The only way I seem to lose any weight is when I stick to about 1200-1300 calories a day. Is that to low to do workouts as intense as yours?
    TIA!!

    LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it here:)

  • Rachelle

    So…no sugar free creamer????????

  • Elena

It’s funny, I just looked at some charm bracelets and thought that I want one but I want it to mean something. And then I go and read your blog and you are talking about a challenge and that you want to reward yourself with a charm. What a coincidence. BTW, is Frederick doing the challenge too? I am trying to get into great shape for the summer and eat small portions but lately I’ve been treating myself with a piece (sometimes not that tiny) of chocolate with my tea at night. So this challenge is very applicable to my situation. However, I’m worried that my bf will make me crave it by continuing the ritual of tea+chocolate …

Despite all that, I’m IN and my reward would be a charm bracelet :)

So is Frederick doing it? and if not, would it not make it more difficult for you when he does enjoy a treat here and there?

  • Stephy

    I’m in…sounds like a doable challenge!

  • Elena

Peppermint tea never fails to kills sugar cravings for me

  • HotChilli

I am in! Starting yesterday. I didn’t eat any sugar yesterday or the day before. I generally don’t eat too much sugar, but I do have a weak spot for chocolate!

  • Matthew

Ha! too funny! I hardly ever eat sweets and now here I am with a big bag of Valentines Day chocolate, which I happen to be gorging on as I type!
So I won’t be joining you right away ;-) Can’t let all this glorious poison go to waste. But as soon as its gone, which won’t be long at this rate,I’m back on the wagon. 30 days, no sugar! starting as soon as this bag runs out… lmao!

  • Lena

What good timing for a 1-month challenge with this being the first day of Lent. Perfect timing! Now I have no excuse not to suceed ;]

Anyhow, I thought I’d share a workout I put together yesterday with some of your exercises.

I am really loving the interval training, however, for this workout I really wanted to push myself hard, so I did 8 rounds of 10 second rests and 30 second work periods. Here is what I did:

    1. Jump squats
    22-22-16-18-17-17-15-18

    2. Walkover Plank Pushups (I don’t know if that’s exactly what you call them)
    8-8-8-8-5-6-6-6

    3. Side Jump Lunge
    24-23-24-24-24-26-25-25-25

    4. Reptile
    26-26-26-22-18-22-20-24

    5. Side Plank Crunch
    15-15-15-15-12-12-16-16

This was killer! So sore today =] It took a bit longer than 20 minutes, but I think doing one really intense interval workout per week is gonna really kick my summer fit plan into high gear. Thanks for the inspiration!!!

  • Carol

oh boy i tried!! had to modify a bit!!
    4 sets 25 lunges
3 sets 12 jump push ups..
    1 set baby: arms close & wide 10 & 10
    1 set abs 25
    1 set v abs 25
1 set diamond leg abs 25
    1 set scissor abs 25
    1 set rows 15
    1 set triceps 15
    took 45 min :)

  • Anna

i dont think that little piece of chocolate is going to make much difference, especially if its a dark chocolate which is actually good for you;) so, come on, people, dont be too hard on yourself,i know everyone loves sweets, life is only given once so enjoy it at least a little ;)

  • Iris

Hey supercool!!!!I am with you.Today I started and will try to eat no sugar and drink no alcohol. And I could even convince two other friends to follow me.And we will try to hold on even for 6 weeks, till Eastern. And my prize will be a VERY nice silver ring with a engraving:FORTUNA FAVET FORTIBUS means fortune is with the brave people. :-))))

  • Jenn

I just want to give you a huge THANKS for taking time doing such a fantastic job on your website. I get very inspired and motivated. I have been arguing with myself daily about my consumption of sugar intake. This is just what I’ve needed. I live in the Pacific Northwest and it gets so depressing 9 months out of the year here. I had a baby last May and I have done minimal to change my attitude and body shape. Keep up the great work and cheers to you and the challenge!

  • Elena

Sounds GREAT and you really encourage me do so!
    So we will try!
    The fortune favourites the brave!

  • Leslie

I just discovered your website and i’ve been following for the past few days! I’m excited about your challenge! Lets do it! I was actually planning on giving up sugar for lent (40 days). You rock girl!

PS- i’m so flippin’ sore and it feels good!

  • Will

    Z,
A long time ago I just quit eating any sugar related foods. So this is the first of your challenges that I can actually do well – ha.
    Thanks for sharing

  • Rea

    Hi,

I really wanna be a part of this challenge, but I have a problem:

Next week there’s a holiday in my country and what we do in this holiday is drink alcohol and eat sweet pastry.
Usually I dont do the holiday stuff but this time I am invited to a work party which is going to be this huge event with loads of food and drinks. I know the food at our work parties is always amazing – they go all out – desserts and everything.

This holiday says you have to be drunk and happy so i’ll probably have a beer or two :)

But what do you think about dessert? Should I take it as a challenge and not eat any? Or should I allow myself to indulge this time (I eat dessert once a week normally)and then go back to the challenge?

P.S. I don’t find it hard not to eat sweets but when there are really good desserts and they are free – i’m tempted.

    I would some opinions :)

  • Gabrielle

I’ll join you in this challenge!:)

  • mercier jj

I’m in! A boost in the “sugar battle” is just what I needed. I’ve had fruits with chocolat dip 3 times last week! It is all over now! 30 DAYS challenge! I LOVE IT!

I’m excited about next summer! I wanna be confortable in a bikini… not bothering sitting str8 to avoid belly bump…

Funny people talk about splenda… I realised this morning that my box is empty… ZUZ do you think I should stop using that? Or? Seriously I dont know what is best between “real sugar” (like honey) or a bit of splenda.

  • Stephanie

Okie dokie. It’s on! It’ll be hard, since I still have Valentine’s day chocolate, but I will accept. =)

  • Jesi

On Sunday [valentines day] I decided to finally get off the computer and try one of your workouts, the one i watched involved a lot of squats and i’m still incredibly sore, should I wait for the soreness to subside or do I continue to make myself workout?

Also I’m joining your no sugar challenge :) it’ll have to start tomorrow though, because I was drinking a soda as I loaded your video.

  • lin

Hi Zuzana … Count me in! So glad I found your website. You and Frederick are really inspiring. I’ve already ordered my Gymboss timer – can’t wait to get it.

Here’s wishing us all good willpower.

  • Ago

    Hi there,
having diabetes type 1 (the type which people get from genetical changes/mutations,type 2 is related to weight issues) puts you into that situation through-out the year.Sugar you’ll obtain is from food only – such as fruits, yoghurt etc. (no sweets).
As with many things, the start (or kick off) is always the hardest, once you’ll get used to it & it becomes a lifestyle, you won’t even notice.

Im fairly sure with dedication & strong determination, you’ll succeed in what ever you do.

  • Jennifer

Zuzana, Your hair looks so pretty up like that! Everytime I try and wear mine up my 6 yr old dd tells me to take it down!
I’m with you on the one month challenge, perfect timing for me.

  • Salma

Swarowski has some BEAUTIFUL pieces! Definitely my kind of reward too! I’m doing this challenge as of NOW. SO IN! Thanks for the inspiration once again :)

  • barbaraG

Hi. Drinking coffe without sugar is a thing you get used to very easy. First couple of coffees taste horrible but the fifth one (and treat yourself with a really good one) is delicious!
I stopped drinking sugar with my coffe ten years ago and now I can’t even taste the sweet one. It’s like you really get the feeling about which coffe really tastes and which not.

  • http://bodyblog.tv Lish Weese

I am in for this challenge…oh, I needed this extra incentive. I just stopped at a Starbucks and had some lovely chocolate java indulgence :( And it will be my last for a while….I think I will buy myself a new pair of express jeans when I arrive at that 30 day mark!! Woohoo! I am syked!!!!

  • barbaraG

Wow, first I didn’t want to say yes cause I didn’t want to be dissapointed, but when I see all the comments – count me in!!
It’s such a nice community you started here!

  • Benni

    right, I´m in, too!
I´ll have my written exam next tuesday, so you might understand that I just cannot join you before wednesday, I need mind-food…but I accept the challenge!

  • dano

Ive been eating healthy for 3 months now gone from 72kgs to 62kgs and my 6pack have finally poped out :), power walking really helps, and stay away from fast carbs. Oats porridge for breakfast with apple and rasberry yummy!, then lunch tuna and eggwhite sallad, and then i eat 2x chicken breast for the rest of the day. And sometimes a little cashewnuts or shrimps. Always trying to get some protein in me every 3rd hour.

Love ur show keep it up!

  • Valerie

I’m in Zuzana! You are my inspiration :D, WE CAN DO THIS!

  • Slavka

    count with me!

i have come across your website a few weeks ago and since then managed to do some of your workouts, bought the gymboss (the best investment you can make for yourself), realised that i do not have to get crazy by counting calories on the daily basis, but just take more flexible approach (of course stick to small portion sizes), managed to search a bit on M Pollan who you refer to in your articles. I also ordered In Defense of Food, which arrived today and can’t wait to read it. i might sounds like a lunetic or fanatic but that was not a point i was trying to make. I just want to say that thanks to you, I found a better, more flexible way to take care of my body, health and that you do not have to spend hundreds of pounds on equipment, gym membership to look good, to feel good and become stronger…

i am looking forward to your videos, reports…..I can’t wait for the summer to come and be in the best shape of my life (in my 30! lol)

  • Stephenie

    Dear Zuzana,

You keep BodyRocking my world, girl…I seriously think I have a girl crush on you ;)

I am so happy to see this challenge! I just stopped using artificial sweeteners about 5 days before this post, which was HUGE for me – they were such a habit of mine for so long, but, again, you inspired that change! And it only seems logical and natural to eliminate even the processed real stuff as well, so I will join you on this one as well. I am drinking my coffee now with only unsweetened almond milk as I write this…

I would also like to share a workout of mine, simply because the name makes me laugh and the workout makes me gag…

I call it “Russian Power Farming” (lol…my friend said, “Wow, that sounds like Russian Power Farming” when I described to her.)

    10 pull-ups

10 burpees with a pushup, 2 mountain climbers (one on each foot, so one switch), and a jump up

10 Turkish Get-Ups (5 each side). I used a 7 lb kettlebell, but obviously they are ghastly enough without using any weight as I found out with the Prisoner Get Ups. ;)

20 jump lunges (10 each side)

Complete as many rounds of this sequence as possible in 15 minutes.

Hope you have a wonderful, yet sugar-free day!

    xoxo,

    Stephenie

  • Mellory

    Zuzana,

I “accidentally” came across one of your recent videos on YouTube about a half hour ago. Although I am internet savy, am not a blogger, youtuber, etc… I was searching for a news article on fitness and found the video on your “diet challenge.”

I am not a “fitness junkie” by any means, but I am looking to revamp my lifestyle and get serious about my overall health and physique. I lvoe that your workout routines use your own body for resistance training and I intend to utilize my homegym (which is quite limited: treadmill, some free weights, and a bowflex). I have two problems that are continual setbacks for me… FOOD (all food: sweets, meats, carbs, anything unhealthy really) and getting up the will and energy to workout (it’s a constant battle with myself).

I am encouraged by just the few videos I watched on your site. Yet, I am curious as to how you got started and how long ago. Is there a blog link that talks about you and your background?

I’m sure alot of “fit wanna-be’s” like me have been serious enough that they have also taken “before” photos — yes, I have done this… but the sad thing is that I cannot get myself motivated most days to put in a good workout. Why??? What is it going to take? The lack of energy and the “mental” game is a big setback for me. Any advice?

I hope that today is the start of a new healthy lifestyle for me. I’m eager to achieve a total body transformation, but I just need a little jump start to help get things going. I am a non-smoker, only drink on occassion socially, and am considered to be “normal” weight for my height and age — I am just sluggish and have no tone to my muscles and my belly and thighs are the ares that need the most work.

Goodness…. here’s to DAY ONE! Now how to begin???

  • CrazyTSE

Count me in! I’ve been trying to do this for a while with limited success. Now if I am held to it by everyone else, this will be the encouragement I need. Work is a killer for me, as someone always brings a tasty sugary snack, but I will be strong! By the way, I love this site, it has inspired me to get back into shape.

  • Emma, Sweden

you think it´s cold on Malta? well to get youre mood up I can tell you that here in Stockholm we have -12C an about 70cm snow! it´s a cold winter!

  • Warren

Totally! I’ll do it, starting NOW.

  • April

Wow i was just on utube n i seen your workout… amazing!!! i used to do a lot of workouts that are similar to yours… i recently got fat did p90x and back in shape however im now following you… a few years ago i didnt eat any candy or junk food for a year as a new years resolution…so a month challenge will b easy… im challenging myself tho to do one of your workouts at least 4 or 5 times a week to get that sexy TONED body for the summer… keep up the amazing work (outs) :D!!!!!

  • Oli

Of course I would follow your challenge! This is great idea! You know… when you tell me such thing, it has more power than if I said that to myself. Thanks for kicking my ass! :o) You are always welcome. Just keep us motivated :o)
Tomorrow is my first day! Let see, what I would look like March 19 :o)) I am really addicted to sugar.

  • Francesca

    WOW! I just started doing your workouts yesterday ;-;
Whatever, this’ll help me get toned for sure so I’m in :D

  • Rebecca

    Zuzana and Frederick,
Count me in on the 1 month challenge=) It’s perfect timing as I’m catholic and today is the first day of Lent season. During Lent we give up something that we most desire. The things I most desire are wine and chocolate. The thought of giving up both of my fav things made me feel really sad until I watched your video and read your blog. Now I feel good about giving them up. Mine are more for religious reasons but I think it’s good to do regardless of the reasoning. One habit leads to many so it’s good to break it while it’s still fresh. Thank you for your posive insight.=)

  • http://www.janetspreiter.com Janet

Felt up for an extra challenge to purge any remaining sugars from my body. I noticed I had slipped behind by a day and figured it was time to catch up…

jog 3/4 mile to the park
10 hard repeats of a 150 yard hill in the park
    jog 3/4 mile home

    rest a few minutes

The One Month Challenge in 21:32….oooh my thighs and hamstrings were burning so bad!!! I made sure I did the lunges to the point it doubled as a stretch. Very challenging!

    rest for a few minutes

The Burn Baby Burn workout in 15:24 The jump lunges were so intense.

So now all that nasty sugar is gone from my system and I am purified! Just don’t cut me off my heavily buttered sourdough toast :)

  • Katherine

Hey Zuzana, I just started following your workouts. I am a wrestler and I will be moving to the Olympic Training Center in May and will start my journey towards the Olympics!
I really needed a boost in my workouts and I love that you do so much body weight training. I need to gain around 5kg to get to the appropriate weight class for the olympics. How long did it take you to build up muscle? I have done a lot of weight training, however it takes a long time for me to build muscle. I am almost 5’7” and i weight about 54kg. Thanks for your awesome workouts!!!

    Is bitter chocolate acceptable?

It isn’t sweet, but it would give me a little bit energy. It’s only one day and I have a crisis because it is laying on the desk, near me and tempting me to eat it..oh.

I don’t put sugar to tea since i was 11, now I do the same with coffee but I like to have sth sweet with it, like one cookie or a piece of chocolate. I only when it is fiercely bitter and strong, but only half of teaspoon.

  • Frankie

IMO, dark chocolate is not junk food and if you have only one piece a day, I don’t believe it will screw up everything else. Dark chocolate is actually good for you, it has antioxydant in it. I treat myself to one or two pieces a day. I mean, I eat well, I exercise, I work hard, why shouldn’t I treat myself?

  • dano

hehe you got that right! i live in falun and its even colder up here :D

  • Nora

Hi Zuzana, I want to tank you for all your free workout.I really appreciate it.I will join you in this challenge for the next month this is a really good challenge.;o)

  • Andrzej

It sounds like suicide for me (chocolade and sugar is a base of my diet) but … who cares!?! I am with you!

  • Lilu

Let’s do this thing!!!! NO SUGAR FOR A MONTH!!!

  • http://www.bodyrock.tv/ Zuzana – BodyRock.Tv

    Hi Mellory,

just read through this website and start following my daily workouts. I have a very basic approach to fitness based mostly on common sense – no rocket science on this blog. Strong will and diligent work will get you your results. Good luck!

  • http://www.bodyrock.tv/ Zuzana – BodyRock.Tv

Thanks for idea, it looks like a good workout.

  • Christy

Sorry for the mispelling of your name Zuzana:)

Hi Zuzana and Freddy- I am so in for the challenge.

I’m ready for the no treat challenge!! Good thing I had my last hot fudge sundae before reading this!! Right now I’m doing 90 days of Chalean Extreme and Insanity with some friends of mine, but I plan to return to your workouts when I’m done. I really love your workouts – challenging and quick…perfect combination. Now I just need to think what my reward will be….

What does it mean when it says awaiting moderation? Are my messages getting through?

  • becca

    Hey Zuzana:D
It is crazy that you are starting this one month challenge today because I was starting my own 40 day challenge. I am no going to eat any junk food, or even food with preservatives and additives. I am even making my own bread for the week!

Anyway, I’m not sure what religion you guys are, but today is the first day of lent (I am Catholic, and lent symbolizes the 40 days Jesus was without food in the desert, being tempted by the devil). We usually give something up for the forty days of lent before Easter, and this is what I am doing. I am also going to work out every day, and only rest on days I really need to, not when I feel like it.

I am feeling so good about this challenge and cant wait to see the amazing results 40 days later. i kno its definately going to be hard, but it is so cool that you are doing the same thing at the exact same time. lol we will feed off eachothers motivation:)

    Best of Luck to everyone!

    Great Idea! I’m in!

  • Katelyn

wow thats really funny because I had just started that challenge haha

  • Healthy Mama

I am looking forward to the challenge because sugar has always been an obstacle. I go a while without it but slowly it always finds a way back into my diet. Just wanted to know your thoughts on fruit versus dried fruit and if I should steer clear of it. I also wanted to thank you for a my new healthy lifestyle! I have a 6 month old baby girl and I am smaller than I have ever been even when I competed in my figure contest. One thing I just love is the intensity and small amount of time it takes to do your workouts because time is not something I have alot of with my 6 month old. Keep doing what your doing and inspiring so many people.

This whole exercise thing really has me baffled. I try and try but I can never lose this gut so I’m in! No more bon-bons for me for the next 30 days. I’m sure glad pizza doesn’t have chocolate or sugar – and I’m glad it’s a meal and not a treat. That makes the challenge a bit easier. After working out I always feel like eating a whole one myself. But what about natural sugars? You aren’t asking that we give up our Sangria are you? Cause that would be just crazy…

  • Qweefa

Oh I love it! you should sell DVD’s instead of posting free videos

I’m so in! : ) YOUR WEBSITE REALLY MODIVATES ME, YOUR SUCH AN INSPIRATION TO ME!

    Hi Everyone,

Maybe I should do chocolate as I just looked in the trash and found two empty wrappers for the big Lindt Excellence 85% Cocoa Bar! Okay…I’m Chocoholic! That is the first step. Next is stopping! Thanks Zuzana! 8-)

But, I’m still not into men’s jewelry…so what should I give myself?

I shall take on the challenge. And since I don’t really eat sweets. I will stay away from chips and fries! They’re my weakness! :) Wait, does that mean no sugar in coffee too? :-p

  • Ami

    Hi Zuzana,

It’s been great to see the fantastic results you’re getting from your workouts. You’ve definitely come a long way since the very beginning! Can I ask you when you will go into maintenance mode and not try to keep building up your muscle tone? Is there ever going to be a point where you dont want to get more muscular and just keep the tone you have? There is a fine line between looking fit/healthy and looking big/muscular. Even for men it can be easily crossed. What are your thoughts on this?

  • http://ozziepossum-diyhealthfitness.blogspot.com/ ozziepossum

Yay, completed this one in 23:20. The butt lift/toe touch was a killer by round 4, I really struggled to finish them but…. I did!

Thanks Zuzana and Frederick for another great workout. You are both so motivating for me that I am so happy! I tend to get bored with working out but I’ve been following you guys for about 3 months now and I am NEVER bored!

I have seen some great changes in my body and have to thank you both for that!

Oh this is definetly a challenge because I will be honest I definetly cheat! So I’m in ! We can do this! I will just have to find something to keep my mind off the sweets I just have to have my coffee with two creams and I’m good!

  • Amber frm Canada

If we are allowed honey. Couldn’t we sweetn our coffee with it?

  • http://www.transparentfinancialgroup.com Joe

I love your website, great job! I was wondering if you count calories throughout the day to get so lean. I’ve read I should burn more than I consume. I want to get down to 6% body fat “which looks like you have attained”. I’m currently around 18%. I weigh 188 lbs and I’m 6’1. I’m in pretty good shape but I want to see the 6 pack :)

    Thanks

  • becca

    Hey you guys,
I just wanted to let everyone know that most of our tastes are aquired. Like if you think you cannot live without adding sugar or salt to all your foods, all it takes is some hard work the first few days. After this you don’t even want them anymore. This is true with salad as well. I stopped using dressing, and at first it tasted like grass… ickkkkkk. But I can know eat salad with nothing on it, just tomatoes, red onions, and sometimes some plain balsamic vinegar.

    Good luck to everyone!!!!
The first few days are the hardest, but its all worth it in the end.

  • Frederick

Hi Christy – you can set your own limits for this challenge – we are just trying to avoid junk in general and as much refined sugar as possible :)

  • Alex

I am in for sure–actually, i stopped all sugar, alcohol and smoking at the new year and made my diet all real food with no white flour at all (actually no wheat other than the occassional ww pasta)….it started out to be hard, but as time has gone by, its easier and easier and i have even turned down things with no problem–and the results with working out are amazing–i have lost 15 or so pounds and still eating very well..

I love your workouts–trying HARD to get those ninja squats down!!!! one of these days!~

    So…count me in! :)

  • Alex

p.s. not to change your mind on things–but dark chocolate is actually very good for you–high in antioxidants, theobromine, stimulates your endorphins, etc…if you are going to eat chocolate, make it above 60% cacoa…you can also now get organic cocoa nibs, which are just pure cocoa and you can chew on those if you absolutely need to have chocolate…

i can take it or leave it–except for one week a month! ;)

  • Cutie

    Zuza,

u r so cute and so real !!! :) U are the best motivator ever :)

  • kary p

how many times at week.do you do your workouts?

  • Marilyn

    Hi Zuzana,

All I can really say….I’m going to try real hard. I am generally a strong person, but for 40 days? What a challenge; okay I’m saying to myself “I can do this”, if I could quite smoking for over thirty years cold turkey, this should be a piece of cake right? Count me in. I’m right on time, because I haven’t had anything really sweet today except for raisens if you want to count that. I’m going to need encouragement, and motivation from you guys and I’ll return the favor. For those of you that’s going to participate in this challenge GOOD LUCK. I’ll be checking back daily. I’m trying to think of what I want after the fourty days LOL.

  • Kyra

    Rea,

That’s a tough question. I would decide to eat a set amount; lets say three small desserts (like two bites) or one large (like full peice of cake). WARNING: once you have your two beers eating a few extra desserts might not seem like a big deal so make your goal, write it down, and stick to it at your work party.

By setting a goal and sticking with it you can avoid any regret later and ensure that you follow through with the days to follow your party.

    Happy Holiday!

  • Catharine!

I love your one month challenge and I have a question. I was looking at vitamins and suppliments like GNC WellBeing. If I am eating right and getting a well balanced diet do I need to take anything extra? Will it help? Could it hurt?
    Thanks Zuzana! Love your videos

  • Kyra

I felt the same way Barbara! : D

    This site/community is invaluable!

  • Kyra

I think we all indulge in a little sugar at breakfast. Whether it’s in the form of fruit, honey, or sugar “naturally” occuring in a bowl of cereal it’s part of the glue that holds breakfast together.

However, check the box again; is that High-Fructos corn syrup or just plain sugar? I wouldn’t take this TOO seriously BUT High-Fructos corn syrup has been shown to kill rats in five weeks.

PS: I’m definitely taking this out of context but the findings are pretty scarry D :

Best of luck with those pesky 10 lbs. We know you can do it!

  • Sandra

    Dear Zuzana,
I will do the challenge with you. I really don’t have a sweet tooth but I am a carb-aholic. Give me a bowl of pasta over a piece of chocolate cake anyday. I use whole grain pasta but too much is not good for the waistline you know.
I’ve been very down lately. It’s only been a little over a month since I put my ten-year old Border Collie to sleep. He had Cancer and it broke my heart to see my Buddy, jogging partner, protector go through this illness.I know he’s okay now but I still miss him.
Your workouts are inspiring and I am with you on the challenge.

  • Rosalyn

I’m in on the challenge! I was just telling my husband that I was going to go the whole month of March without any junk what so ever, and I come on your website and see this. Are you reading my mind Zuzana? lol! You’re website is awesome and full of great information. I really appreciate everything you’re doing. Keep up the great work!

  • Kyra

Zuzana or Frederick have to check the mesage before it is posted to the public.

This is probably done to prevent spam and other icky mesages.

  • Charlie

Thanks guys :) You are very right barbaraG, the first one wasn’t so great, but it is actually quite easy to get used to. Since we’re not buying sugar, we can spend the extra few dollars and get the nicer coffees.
Honey in coffee is tasty Amber. Yum. I’m trying to reserve my honey on as many occasions as my will power will allow :)

  • Joni

FINE! I’m in. Haha – Valentine’s is also hard for me…I will put away my bin of Reese’s Pieces for 30 days and reward myself with something…I will have to think of that later…

Would you do us a favor and include your struggles and encouragement with this challenge in your videos for the next month??
    <3

  • Amanda

    I’m with you Zuzana!
I’m giving up on my “cheat days”. They were just once a week, usually on Sundays, but I cant take it anymore. I always have a great week and I feel very guilty when Monday comes along. I have the strength to start it ove beacuse the bad habits of having a cheat meal does not afeect my body weight but it affects me mentally. I will be with you on this challenge! On March 17th, I will reward myself as well. I will probably have a glass of red wine on St Patricks day, which will be a month from today, and I will also get a belly bottom piercing to remind me of this challenge. Good luck to ya! I would love to keep you motivated by telling you how I am doing though the long month we have ahead, hope to hear from you as well. Keep me posted!

    xoxo,
    Amanda.

  • Erin from LA

Alright count me in! NO sweets and NO junk for a month!! Just give me till March 1st, to start.
ahhmm, got to get mentally prepared. :)

  • Sarah O

Hi guys. I have been trying really hard to do the workouts when you post them up. I am not in very good shape though. I get extremely tired and out of breath after 10 minutes each day. I know that eventually I will be able to keep up with you consistantly, I am just not at that level yet.

Is 10 minutes of this enough each day? Should I try 10 minutes, then later that day another 10 minutes? Maybe would doing the excersizes very slowly help me finish?

I’m just trying to figure out how to lower the intensity and still get a benefit. I just can’t keep up :(

Ps: I am totally giving up sweets til StPatties day. I hope it will spark a start of better health!

  • Maja

not sure if this is considered ‘cheating’ but when I really crave chocolate. I heat up regular almond milk, 2 tablespoons of unsweetened, natural cocoa powder, then some agava nectar to taste. to me it’s better than the usual hot chocolate you would buy pre-mixed.
do you think this is cheating?

  • MEGAN

This website is amazing thank you! i train regularly at the gym but i was looking for workouts to do at home and these are amazing.

i was just wondering how did you originally get into working out? Like what started/triggered/inspired you

    THANKS!

  • Rick

Not to sound like an elitist bastard but I haven’t eaten sugar in years. It’s not hard. Being lactose intolerant @ 8 years old helps :)

  • Bohdana

    Let’s do it!

  • Tara

    Hi,
I’m in! I needed this push to inspire and motivate me!!! I’ve been on the site now for about about 4 days and have been following the workouts and I feel great!!!

Friday´s Int.

  • Mercy

    Hi Z&F

I am down for this challenge. Today is my 8th year wedding anniversary with my hubby and we went to Malibu for dinner and of course we had to close the meal with a mouth watery dessert;) Now I will start my challege tomorrow the 18th. Now Z&F, do you guys start your challege today the 17th? And Zuzana I went to Lulu Lemon store today in Santa Monica, and I decided to reward myself with a Apre Yoga coat from Lulu once the challege is completed. Good luck everyone;)

  • http://www.balancemotion.com Andrea

Your not the only one that has been eating chocolate daily with their coffee it has become a total habit for me as well…I am going to extend this challenge to my clients and friends as well, great idea. Are you including wine or alcohol sugars in your 30 days without sugar? And for all the rest in for this challenge watch out for any processed food (which shouldn’t be part of our diet anyways ;P)….almost ALL of it has sugar added to it. 1 tsp of sugar is roughly 4 grams…keep that in mind when you read labels you will be unpleasantly surprise…

the benefit of cutting sugar out completely is you’ll actually crave it less..the more you eat the more you crave…

  • Antonia

what doesnt break you makes you stronger

just a minute…has a lipton ice tea sugar??or only fructose??can we drink lipton ice tea or green lipton ice tea???

I’m in! Up to now it’s been easy, but it’s going to get harder when the “need” kicks in! I’m also going to try and follow your work outs, maybe not every day because I’ll be dead for my dance and fitness classes (I work for a latin dance school), but enough to look good this summer, I hope! Thanks for all the videos, very inspiring, I want your abs!

  • http://www.trangpham.ca Trang

I’m not sure if people ask you this alot, but where do you buy your sport bras. For some of them it’s obvious because the logo is on them, but I really like the flowery one in this video. Where did you get it?

  • Jackie

I have been doing your workouts for about 3 weeks now and I am loving them and I’m thinking about taking you up on this challenge! I am a chocoholic too! But I have a ? about you workouts… I see you post a new workout almost every day and I am wondering if you just do just one workout a day. I have been doing one workout about 5-6 times a week and I am wondering if that is what you do, or if you do multiple workouts in one day. And if you do multiple workouts in one day, how do you combine them? I want to get in the best shape possible so please let me if I should be doing more! Thanks Zuzana!

  • Akemi

Andrzej.. i laugh when i read your comments.. but it’s true it’s like a suicide for me too lol,but we can do this.

Zuzana, count me in,I am ready for this challenge.
like everybody said we can do this!

    Hi!
I´m new here and love your site sooo much – great work!
I´m also in for the next shugar-free 30 days! :-)….and can´t wait to see your next video!!!

  • Iris

Hi,superfantastic-I am in!!!That’s what I needed.A kick in the pants.Yesterday I started and I want to hold on for even 6 weeks till Eastern.I could conveniance 2 other friends,so it will be a little easier. But I will also do it alone!I will not eat any chocolate and will not drink any alcohol. And then I will get myself this really lovely silverring with the gravure:fortune is with the brave people.
I am really looking forward to see if I can recognize any differences in my body in 6 weeks. :-)
    Thanks Zuzana and Frederick.

  • Rea

I guess it depends on the type of bitter chocolate – as some have a lot of sugar in them! I went to the supermarket and looked for one with less sugar, but they all contain a huge amount of sugar, even the Lindt Excellence 85% stuff! There are types that are mostly cocoa and very little sugar, but they don’t taste like chocolate and are really bitter.

Bitter chocolate and ice cream are the only sweets I like and i’m going to give them up for a month – good luck to all of us!

  • Liny

    Hello Zuzana,
    you´re a tough lady :-)
that´s a too hard bet for me.
Gummy bear, chocolate, biscuits, cakes, marmelade on bread – that´s all an inherent part in my everyday life. How do you replace this sugar gap?
But I´ll try it for one week – that´s a bit more realistic goal for me:-)
Thanks for inspiring us with your great blog.

  • Lalla Tomelilla

Hi Zuzana, I^m going to try too! :) Thank you for the videos you do with workout, when I watch you I always think I can do it too but no, I can’t it’s too hard!! Hehehehe
So I do a lighter version.
I still don’t know what will be my present for 1 months without sugar and sweety, but I’m sure I’ll find something! ;) and my new shaped body will surely be the best present I could become, right? :D
    Sorry for bad english!
    Cheers from Switzerland

Hi! wenever i want to have sugar, i go brush my teeth instead… works for me! have a good day!

  • Gabriella

    Gaby

  • Frederick

Hi Sarah – if it’s all you can manage right now then that’s where you are. As you mention, you will eventually get there – just keep going consistently. You can lower the sets/ reps if that helps you. Just make sure that you are still pushing with max effort :)

  • Kimberly

Hey! I love your website! I just wanted to say that I will also join the challenge. I have been following your workouts and I am ready to take it a step up:) If I can do it, ill buy myself a pandora charm as well (The silver strawberry charm is adorable). Great challenge!

Thank you for being such an inspiration!

PS, I’m a university student and have only a microwave and toaster- Do you know of any recipes for University students like myself who do not have access to ovens or stove tops or much of a budget for food? Thanks, I would appreciate it:)

    -Kimberly

  • Rea

Third comment to this post, is it? :)

Maybe this is the wrong place to say this, but, I have a really great recipe for cookies with no sugar, flour, butter or oil in them! So if you really have to have a cookie or you have guests coming over and you want to give them something tasty but not chocolate, it is a great substitute. Kids would love it too.

Do you know what tehina (sesame paste) is?
We use it in Israel for salads/meat/sweets, just about anything. It has a nutty flavor which is somewhere between sweet and salty.

The recipe is simply, it has only 4 ingredients and only needs 10 minutes in the oven.

If you can get tehina where you live, let me know, as this recipe rocks…

  • Amanda

I have been telling myself if I would just skip the flavored coffee creamer and the handful of chocolate chips everyday I would be one sexy hot momma…OKAY!!! Here goes!!!….But don’t forget to encourage and remind us.

I am going to buy a pair of Lululemon pants after 30 days and maybe a gymboss:) tomorrow for inspiration up front!!
Thanks and I think a big treat would be to see Frederick do a workout!!

    Dearest Zuzana,
I am sorry to say that I don’t think its a good think for me to join you on the no sugar for one month challenge. Please write to me and tell me what you think about this.

  • Essi

I live in Tampere, Finland and it has been really cold winter this year! But even thought its -20´C I have still been running outside :D

  • Anya

HI! You are such a sunny girl! Thumbs Up!
Watching your videos?i thought you don’t eat sugar and sweets whatsoever:-) When did you do that? After the meal? I also wanted to ask you? are you always so goal focused? I mean?do have days when you just bulk up and don’t care about anything? If not, how do you deal with it? How do you talk yourself out of eating?

  • Frederick

Hi Sandra, that’s really a tough thing to go through. Hope the workouts help to cheer you up :)

  • Frederick

Hi – we don’t take fitness supplements of any kind – that said it’s always an individual choice and what you feel will work for you. We try and get what we need out of real whole foods. In our pre-bodyrock.tv days we both spent money on different supplements. We reached a turning point when there was a major product recall from a well known supplement product that had caused serious and life threatening problems for people. We decided that enough was enough and it was safer and healthier just to avoid this type of stuff.

  • Frederick

Hi Lena – I’m in for the long haul :)

This is the first time I post a comment but I have been doing your workouts for over a year, you are my inspiration and kinnda of my hero!! I just wannted to share my story with you, and hope for some of your advice!!!!

So here is the story, a few year ago I had a very bad lower back pain, but doctors said nothing serious, so I add some swimming to my regular rutine, but months ago I started with a very huge pain in my lower back, I end up having surgery and they found I had a genetic problem, so they put me two peek cases, six titanium screws, two titanium bars and three bone grafts, it was a surgery of over 9 hours, and I had a very bad time!!! Now I am recovering in my house, I just started walking a few days ago very slowly, so it’s crazy for me ’cause I have to be in rest for other 10 weeks, I can’t even use the stairs, so I am stocked on here!! I cant go out, use a car, or walk more than 150 steps per day.

I used to do a lot of exercise, so it’s really hard for me to be in bed all day! I am really having like an epiphany and valuing everything we are able to do in a daily basis, even standing up, or getting up from a bed requires a lot of effort!! My Doctor is very happy with my recovery and he actually said he has never had a patient that recover so fast!!! He said it is because I was in such a good shape before the surgery, so I am so glad I used to do exercise than ever before, I cant wait to be able to do it again!!!!

I hope that in April I will be able to start with some exercise, and believe me I will do all your routines with more enthusiasm than ever!!!

You are great!!! and really inspire all of us, I am from Mexico and have told all my friends about you and your website!

I would join the no sugar no chocolate for 30 days, gladly, but I would not be able to do anything else, for now!!!

Thanks for the time, videos, tips, and everything you share with us!

    Sincerely

    Alejandra

I don’t think she’s going to stop forever, but a 30 day break would help break the HABIT. It’s fine in moderation, but if it is a habit, it can get out of control. So I think her reasoning is to take out the ‘habitual’ behavior and get back to it being a ‘treat’.

She is an excellent example to the rest of us. A lot of times people just make up excuses for continuing certain behaviors–she faces them head on and beats them!

  • Nichole

    Hi Zuzana!

While I’m now 30 weeks pregnant and can’t do those specific exercises, I will commit to adding sets to your Workout for Absolute Beginners, and adding in some extra ab workouts that are safe for 3rd trimester! I will also give up excess sweets…I don’t really eat much anyways, but I think I can substitute an extra bottle of water and an extra piece of fruit in my daily diet to battle any cravings I have for chocolate milk (which I only allow myself every couple days)! I have 10 weeks til my due date, so this challenge will definitely help me to pass the time! :)

  • Mihaela

    Hi Z&F and everybody :)

I don’t really have a sweet tooth, for me the salty treats are my killer. When I try to go without I feel severe cravings and I want to climb the walls. Which is maybe the reason why I feel so puffy all the time, even though I’m a skinny girl.
Ok, just answered my own question. No more salty goodies for me!
As for what Minerva was saying I totally agree with her in the sense that if you’re fit and eat clean all the time a small indulgence won’t affect you, even if it’s daily. But I can also see why Zuzana is doing it.
Challenging yourself constantly has amazing benefits for your mental strength, no matter what the challenge is. Go for it Zuzana, I’m joining in – no more junk!
Don’t know if it’s relevant to this topic, but I picked a different challenge for myself about 3 weeks ago – I promised myself that I will perform 10 clean, butt to the ground pistols by June 1st. I already progressed from a chair to a cooler (the cooler is lower then the chair :)), and I feel incredible!

Ok, enough chatting, I’m off to do today’s workout.

    Mihaela

I’m definitely in! Actually, I am not only just cutting out sugar but also trying to live the next month as a vegan. I am already a vegetarian (who eats fish), but I seriously love my sushi, omelets, Greek yogurt, and glasses of milk! But after reading the China Study this week and your blog post I can’t think of a better time to give it a go!

P.S. As a suggestion to those talking about sugar in coffee: I recommend Stevia. It’s plant-derived and tastes wonderful! Like a vanilla sugar. You can find it at any Kroger/Wholefoods/Trader Joes though I doubt you can find it in Malta!

    Good luck, everyone!

  • Rea

    Good thinking…
    Thank you for your reply!

Actually a period of lenten or fasting (which is also a religious practice before Easter) can be very healthy. Emphasis is on CAN. It depends on what you want to achieve. You can use it to clean your system by drinking a lot of water and unsweetened tea, eating less, eating slowly, eating only unprocessed, healthy, home-made meals like porridge and vegetable soups and – very important – avoiding alcohol, meat, sugar, fat and hot spices. That will have a calming, soothing effect on your gastrointestinal tract. It will not make you loose weight, it will teach you once again how tasty natural food is and how little of it our system actually needs to function well. It is a short-termed celebration of simplicity, an overall resting & relaxing period. Forcing yourself into it without that understanding just to loose weight probably won’t work – you’ll just bindge afterwards and find it hard.

i just got a lot of chocolate for valentines day ;)
I don’t really excercise, but I would love to get in to it!!!
You are very inspiring Zuzana. Your workouts are insane! I can barely squat…hahahah my knee is a little messed up, also my back. Whenever I excercise they both get strong and work properly! Sooo I am going to give it a try. One month. Agave nectar is an amazing sugar substitute as well if you don’t eat honey.
Thank you for all of your hard work.

  • CandyLand

I can get Tahina. Would love the recipe. :)

  • Barča

    Ahoj Zuzko,

    Zuzu,

I’ve made the same promise to myself for the next 40 days!! I feel more empowered knowing you’re in it with me;) I think I’ll reward myself with some new workout sneakers:)

    ~Mia

  • Melina

I have eliminated all sugar from my diet. I use Stevia Leaf Powder from MountainRoseHErbs.com as a sweetener. I also make my own yummy chocolates that taste just as sweet as the sugary type.

  • Mel

ok. I am in this challenge… it is going to be hard……keep us posted please…so we all can stay motivated!

  • Dakota

    Dear Zuzana and Frederick,

I responded to this post when it came out with a really lengthy comment. It’s no where to be found! Why is it not on here? =(

Hmm…Oh well. I’ll put that comment all in a summary for you =p

I ACCEPTED this challenge. I started on February 17th, 2010 and it’s Day 2 for me. I feel better (already!) because I feel like I have control now. Woot!

On the weekend, my self-confidence and motivation was VERY LOW. I “pigged-out” on valentine’s candy and seriously could NOT stop myself. After finally forcing myself to stay in my room and pray that I will have the strength to control the urge to eat, I knew inside that I wanted to spend atleast a few weeks cleansing myself. However, I was not completely seroius…just hopeful that somehow I would do this!

When I came on Bodyrock.tv I saw the new video and I watched it. It felt like a sign! So I took the challenge and here I am.

On February 17th, 2010, I vowed to take INTENSE care of my body and fuel it with healthy, invigorating, rejuvenating, real food.

Intense care meaning that I will eat a healthful breakfast, lunch, snack, and dinner. Drink 2-3 cups of green tea every day. Drink tons of water. Exercise with Zuzana! Write down my troubles and let them be in God’s hands. Also, to just DO THINGS that make me happy with no fear.

So basically…this isn’t just a “stay away from sugar” challenge to me. It’s a renewal of my life-changing journey to better health.

    Thank you Zuzana and Frederick.
You both are inspiring and so wonderful!

Keep on working everyone! You can do it!! Keep on pushing past your fears and work your body.

Just remember, there is SO much people here doing the same thing. You aren’t alone!

You encourage me (Yes I do read the comments) and it makes me want to work so much harder. I hope you are being encouraged too ! =D

    Lots and lots of Love!
    -Dakota

  • Bassma

Do you have any work outs to get rid of love handles? thats my biggest problem and i would love if you gave me a link or put up a video targeting love handles in your work out
    thanks!

  • Carissa

I have also been getting into a bad habit of eating cakes, cookies, pastries. I will do this challenge with you. It will be nice to know that others are ticking the days off with me.

  • Frederick

It’s more about avoiding chocolate, sweets and junk foods and pure sugar. We also try to cut out as much of the added sugars as possible.

  • Frederick

    nice – good luck!

  • Frederick

Hi Shelley – click on the link to the old workout – pics and descriptions are there :)

  • Frederick

Hi – I feel your pain with the Coke – I was a Diet Coke nut. It was brutal at first to give all those types of drinks up. Stay strong – there is hope :)

  • Frederick

Christy – we are cutting out the sweets, but also as much added sugars as possible. Just do your best to cut it out where you can.

  • Frederick

I really like that 10 minute suggestion.

  • Renee

I read somewhere that sugar is more addicting than cocaine and I believe it. I am going to do the 30 day challenge, as I need to get off the sweets. Where does Zuzana get her tops, they are very cute? Thank you so much for your site, I enjoy the variety and the workouts are kicking my rear.

  • Frederick

I will put this on my article list :)

  • Frederick

Hi Rosa – I actually met Zuzana in Mallorca :) Our workouts are great for total body conditioning – so they will impact all of the common “trouble” areas. Just keep at it!

  • Frederick

I’m with you on that challenge – I still get the shakes for Diet Coke :)

  • KC

Hello, F & Z. I love your website and workouts.

I do have one important question that I can’t find the answer to on your website. Do you do another form of cardio, like 30 minutes of running, along with the workout of the day? It seems that the short, intense workouts aren’t enough for a complete workout.

And as a complete change of subject, you two never mentioned anything about Valentine’s Day. What did you do?

    Thanks!

  • Frederick

So you are having summer now? I didn’t know the seasons were like this in Australia…

  • Frederick

Hi – I am looking into fasting – might be a cool future article – thanks!

  • Frederick

    White shoes get dirty fast!

  • Frederick

we are going to try and incorporate the 1on1 info into our regular posts as much as possible :)

  • Frederick

I am 4 sure. I am just waiting to Team Canada to KICK THE CZECH TEAMS ASS.

  • Frederick

It’s a common sense approach – no junk, sweets, chocolate etc – try to avoid as much sugar as possible.

  • Frederick

    This is awesome Dakota :)

  • Runya

    Thank you Frederick,

I will buy black one. I always follow you.

  • Barbara

You can count me in as well, to be honest that will not me as difficult for me as it is for you as I have already broken with my choco-habit and I am really brave since the 2nd of January!

Moreover I have cut down on carbohydrates and the first month was terrible but now I am fine.

So day 1 for me is the 19th February. No sugars! complex carbs just for my breakfast and before my workouts with a small piece of fruit.
Hopefully that will give me a chance to get more ripped- just need to lose about 4kg of fat/8lbs and I will be ready for the summer!

lots of love form snowy Poland!

  • Sarah Hagen

Hi Zuzana! I have a question… Do I need to be sore each time I work out? Because I was sore for the first few weeks & now, not that much. Does this mean I’m not working hard enough?

Also, I’m going to do the 30 day challenge with you & my reward is going to be this beautiful necklace that I’ve been wanting for a very long time! That’s such a great idea! I quit smoking a few years ago & my reward was a bottle of my favorite perfume. I really felt good going to buy it!! :)

    Thank you so much!

  • http://www.bodyrock.tv/ Zuzana – BodyRock.Tv

It is normal to get the post exercise muscle soreness, but it doesn’t mean that if you are not sore after your training, that you didn’t have a great workout. I don’t get sore at all after my workouts anymore.

  • http://www.youtube.com/user/gatopam pam

i´m join in this moment too, all people thinks that if you´re on diet means torture, can´t be that way, is a chance to change all that things that you don´t like and give you a reward for your effort, as you said in your case would be a bracelete in mine ahm… i don´t know but i think that lose weight and be healthier is the most wonderfull reward =D.

    Ahoj Simco,

Zeleninu, ovoce, celozrnne pecivo, maso (kureci a ryby, obcas hovezi), vajicka, lusteniny, orisky, ovesne vlocky. Taky mam rada tucne syry a mleko piju cerstve (ne trvanlive) a nejim zadne odtucnene potraviny. Nezapomen pit hodne vody a pravidelne. Aspon sklenici vody s kazdym jidlem. Zadna veda to neni ;)

  • Adrienne

    Hey Zuzana…I’m in.

A break is necessary. my habits have gotten bad and, although I am so strong from the workouts, I am no longer losing weight because I am eating like a beast!

My body is awesome but I have a layer of fat that my BF loves, but I have little jeans I’d like to wear :-)

No sweets till March 18th! It’s like my own personal Lent.

BLACK COFFEE ONLY…this is more for me than you.

No artificial sweetener, get to know Stevia a lot better :-)

    With much appreciation,

    ~Adrienne

  • d

zuzana you look so pretty in this video!! But would it be ok to have molasses( like in recipes) during this thirty days, or would you count that as a bad sugar too? Thanks a lot!

    a young fan,
    d.

  • Audra Gatti

Don’t worry Carla I’ll have to do the same. I went all day without a graham cracker at work (cause they have them in abundance for our patients) I even had coffee black, yuck! Then went to pick up my daughter from her Nana’s house and she was eating peanut M&M’s and I knew all day not to touch anything sweet and she was feeding them to me so I ate three of em and feel so horrible about it. Oh well, tomorrow’s another day :)

  • http://www.fitnessfrog.com Olya

I actually did this about a month ago, except I gave up potatoes (I used to eat them on a daily basis and had no portion control what so ever)! It feels great when you accomplish your goal, and even more so when I took that first bite of potato a month later :) Now I am aware of how much potatoes I consumed, and due to that I have a much easier time controlling my portions and my intake of them. Good Luck with the sweets intake everyone!

  • Andie

She does. It is more than likely in the archive. Shouldn’t be hard to find :)

    Good luck!

  • Gretty

    I will start tomorrow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • DirtyCorey

I’m in…I know I’m a few days behind but I’ll still stick with the 30 days. :) love this site. Great tips and Routines.

  • Maximiliyan

At least for chocolate, there’s an “easy” solution.
Cacao at its core, is like green tea, quite healthy in moderate quantities.
So, the solution is – eat nothing less than chocolate with more than 80% cocoa solids. If you can find it, 90 or even 100% cocoa chocolate is best.

If you can muster the will and also afford to eat the same amount of chocolate as before (eating the sugary, milky, lower than 35% cocoa solid variants), well then, you have a problem far greater than bad nutrition which requires other interventions.

Otherwise, you are, with a bite or two, eating quite a healthy supplement to your regular diet.

  • Marie86

I’m in for the one month free from sugar. I really need to stop eating it. I just broke up with my boyfriend and I have been eating a lot of sweet things. I took about three kilos. I WANT to lose them.
Thanks a lot Zuzana for the motivation you give me.

  • sameeya

For those sugar addicts, there is a natural sweetner called Stevia or Krisda(stevia extract) no artificial ingredients,no calories,no carbs and no sugar;it is made from the chicory root. This product can be found in your local health food store. The store I bought it from told me if I find it tastes bitter it means Ive used to much.

    hope this helps some.

  • Rea

Reading through the comments to this challenge, I have realized something (which is quite obvious, but still): Everyone is different when it comes to food and eating. I read comments like “How do you talk yourself out of eating” or “my diet is based on sugar” and I try to understand how others feel about food as I dont identify with that. I dont “live to eat”, I dont treat food as something that can make me feel good, I just think of it as something my body needs. I have an overweight friend which says i’m annoying coz I have a “thin person’s mind” and I dont understand how difficult it is for her to control her eating. I don’t really like sweets, I like it when there is something special, like really good ice cream or bitter chocolate, but I can live without it. I want to be able to give advice to others who ask “what should I do about my night eating” or cravings, but I really have no special method, I think it’s all in your mind and the way you were raised. My mother was raised in a post-war atmosphere, where she was told to never throw away food and always finish off her plate, but the portions were huge so she got fat. And today she struggles with eating small portions and avioding sugar and fatty food. I want to tell you that it’s all in your head and you have to decide that you choose your health over 2 minutes of a sweet taste in your mouth. I wanna tell you that you have to stop and ask yourself if sugar is really what you want and not give yourself excuses to why you should eat it.
I hope that would help in some way.

  • Charlie

Oops, Hi Charlie :D I can be Canadian Charlie.

  • Inga Mitinyan

Hey Zuzana, I am totally new to the website, but I already started doing the work outs and eating healthier!I love this website!
And, today is my third day of month challenge! Here we go..

  • Canadian Charlie

Okay, so since my birthday is soon, and from watching videos from around this time last year I gather that Fredericks birthday is sometime soon as well, I thought I’d post a nice sugar free recipe that I found so that we can still have a bit of a treat for our birthdays without cheating on our 30 day commitment. I am also gluten free for the last 10 years so feel free to substitute the gluten free flours for your own preference :)

    Blueberry Almond Tea Cakes:

    3/4 cup Almond Flour
    1/4 cup Rice flour
    3 tbsp of honey
    1/2 tsp baking powder
    1Tbsp unsweetened apple sauce
    1tbsp unsalted butter (melted)
1 large egg (or two egg whites)
    Fresh blueberries

    Mix dry ingredients in bowl,
Mix in honey, butter and applesauce,
In seperat bowl beat eggs until peaks form,
    Fold in egg to mixture,
Pour into muffin tin filling half way and top with small handfull of blueberries to your preference,
    Bake until slightly browned (20mins) @ 180 C

  • Audra Gatti

    Hi Zuzana,

I just completed this workout in 17:21 ;D

The pushups are easier and my legs are getting much stronger… I don’t even feel the pain I used to have in my knees!

    Thanx Zuzana!

  • Tina

    Thank you, Freddy!
Well, few days behind me and already feeling better, without sugar! I will make it! :D

  • Debrina

I will do the 1 month challenge. Sounds like a good motivation to treat your self to something as piece to remember. Thanks Zuzana

  • http://www.fitnessfrog.com Olya

    Erika,
Check the nutritional label. I eat myoplex carb control bars after workouts and they have only 2% sugar alcohol (not sugar). I’m sure there are shakes without sugar in them as well.

  • Kyra

    Minerva,

I think a lot of different people got caught up on this same idea as well. ‘Zuzana’s fit and works hard, doesn’t she DESERVE a little treat everyday?’

But I think what it comes down to is that this is a challenge, it’s not about what we deserve or can “afford” to put into our bodies but the challenge of saying no to the tempting things in life.

I tried the one small piece of chocolate a day keeps the cravings away method back in my college days. It didn’t work; I ended up leaning and becoming dependent on that one small piece of bittersweet goodness. If I did not have my piece for the day all bets were off and I “deserved” a candy bar. I found that in the end the only way to kick my habit was not to buy any more chocolate (or any sweet treats).

Everyone has their own rules for keeping themselves sane and healthy so I am not trying to discredit the method that has clearly worked for you; I am merely pointing out that for some breaking the habit cold-turkey can lead to a cleaner life style.

I hope that this makes you feel a little less worried for Zuzana and all of her 30 Day Challenge and lent takers.

    Cheers,
    Kyra

  • Mel Davis (Cutchswife from youtube)

Right! Zusana, I am coming on the challenge with you. I just ate a little chocolate, so i’ll begin tomorrow and like you at the end of the month, I’ll treat myself to something like a pair of earrings or something great. Thanks Zusana

Thank you for being my virtual workout partner! Also I am in on the no sugar challenge. I love how you rewarded yourself with a bracelet that reminds you of your strength. Can’t wait to go shopping for my reward/reminder!! : ) Keep the videos coming!

    Dear Zuzana and Frederick,

My house was burned down last February 6, and nothing left for me just my clothes I wore that time. We were out that Saturday for our weekend errands and only my eldest son was left in our place. It was a shock and hurting to have lost the things we invested…everything in there were all ashes including things for my work (computers, gym equipments, I would say really nothing). 2 weeks prior the fire, I tried working out doing your style to training, i see very good results to myself and likewise been able to move around with speed, agility and strength. It really helped me alot, Zuzana using simple materials or all throughout bodyweight training.

I do the workouts you shared at any place, time, condition and circumstances without an excuse whether with or without my gym. Though I only use a timer on my cellphone…for the meantime that will be substantial for me while I wait for my gymboss I requested to have it purchased by my in law in new jersey.

We are still working to rebuild our house in 3 months (it will take a lot of money, labor intensive and time consuming) while we stay in my mother in law’s place. Thank you Zuzana and to you Frederick for sharing what you’ve got. You two have put efforts to helping and reaching out and touched lives as myself. Though my condition right now is back to zero (in material things), I can still say that have the richest in me coz I have my health, family and I got people who are good hearted as yourselves and we are in the same craft.

When we get back to having our necessities…i will have my BodyRock set full blast for everybody in the country.

May the Force be with you always.

    Love,
    Jo

When I have a craving for sweets… I usually sprint up a flight of stairs 2 to 4 times and after that I no longer have a craving.

  • http://www.bodyrock.tv/ Zuzana – BodyRock.Tv

That must have been terrible. You must be really strong to stay positive after all that. We are glad that our site was helpful in some way.

Yes, write down the recipe, please… Sesam tastes great and some kind of a reward for a lot of training and no sweets should be ok :)

    Ahoj Zuzko.
Já jsem si říkal, že ta angličtina je nějaká česká:)
    Very good job.

  • Amber

I’m definitely in. I’ve been doing the same thing lately, eating too many sweets. Time to break the habit. :)

  • Christine M.

    Hi Trang,

Zuzana definitely gets asked this a lot (cause she looks so awesome in them!), but I believe she gets most of her workout clothes at Lululemon.

  • Eimear

    hi ya Zuzana
i try to do that every year as its lent for me so for next 40odd days i wont have any sweet stuff except if i make it myself like il treat myself to one or two homemade cereal bars but only if really need it the first 2weeks are the worst but you get use to it after awhile i also give salty snacks but cant give up coffee you need some vices!

  • Roxane

I started a challenge 28 days ago-no alcohol. I wanted to do it for weight loss reasons. I don’t drink a lot but those extra calories matter. I just read about your no sugar challenge today so I will start the 30 days of no sugar at this moment. I too like a little bit of Green and Black organic dark chocolate everyday. It is a habit…. I’ve been wanting to really make that commitment to no sugar so I’m glad you made the challenge. I love your workouts. Thanks for the inspiration!

  • d

does malasses count as a bad sugar!? Sorry but other websites say tht it is and others say it isnt

  • Kath

You think one piece of chocolate is bad? I came home from school, had 2 large cookies and a Larabar before dinner, then ate an entire bowl of mousse after…
For the eighth day in a row.
To be fair, I am trying to gain weight. But at this rate, I’m destroying my body and mind.
Seeing how you react to a daily piece of chocolate really puts things in perspective. There’s no reason to subject myself to ungodly amounts of sugar every night. Whether gaining, maintaining or losing weight, one should still ingest wholesome and nutritious foods.
I accept your challenge! (my teeth are thanking me already…)

  • Cathy

I’m in. I need some motivation.

  • MikeK

Does fruit count? I ate 2 bananas yesterday. I don’t think it should count since fruits has natural sugars. Fruits won’t you get fat or cause depression.

    Hi Kimberly,

A microwave and a toaster? Been there myself during college. I don’t have much for the toaster unless it’s an toaster oven…8-)

You can cook almost anything you want to eat in a microwave oven. Just remember to reduce the setting for meats or they will be rubbery!

As and example here is a simple meal:

Bring 3 cups of water to a hard boil in the microwave oven add 1 cup of Bulgar, stir and cover. It should be ready to eat in a about 15 to 20 minutes and lasts me about a week. I put most of it in a old yogurt container after it cools and refrigerate it.

Next cut some chicken into small cubes (usually I use breast which I’ve boned off a whole chicken) add a little water and salt and pepper to taste. Set the Oven to medium and cook for 5 minutes. If the chicken is frozen it will take longer (10 minutes?) Add some cut up broccoli covered with a paper plate or a microwave oven safe lid (loosely) cook for another 5 minutes still at medium. I usually make a couple meals worth or a bowls worth (2 cups?) of the Chicken and Broccoli. I add some crushed and diced garlic at the end and maybe little yogurt. Eating this with some of the Bulgar on the side makes an inexpensive quick to make meal and it tastes pretty good.

I’ve got more and could provide better details, but you could use almost any meat and veggies you like to make this meal. I microwave yams and use that instead of the broccoli and definitely use yogurt on top of the yam with lots of garlic and sometimes bit of butter or nuts. If you cook a yam make sure to poke some holes into it with a knife or fork before you start or it will explode! Same with a potato or anything like that.

This coincides with Lent so great timing – I’m giving up McDonalds, Fererro Rochers (ate 200 last mth!) and crisps. Can’t wait for Good Friday!

  • suecia

Really? I’ll have to do that now then!!! hehe

  • suecia

I’m loving my tummy! After not even 2 weeks of your summer fit programme! I love it!!! You two rock!! (^_~)

  • Melly

haha I know that problem. But we should do it anyway!Stay motivated. I just found out about the challenge yesterday. So today is my first day of those thirty days.

Amazing Workout! Just starting it! I have a question, does the 30 day challenge only consist of the workout above (title 30 Day-Challenge)?

  • Frederick

No – we will be doing a bunch of routines :)

  • Frederick

    200 Fererros?

  • Hana

Oh don’t worry. We (czech republic) are the ones to beat Canada’s butt:-) lol

    Two days strong!

Zero Sugar Tehina Cookies (25 small ones):

1/2 cup of Tehina (“raw”, no water added)
1/2 cup of honey (I use less, still very sweet)
1/2 cup of sunflower seeds (pre-roasted on a dry pan)
1 + 1/2 cups of oatmeal (the quick kind you use for porridge)
    1/4 teaspoon of salt

You mix the “dry” ingredients in one bowl and the “wet” ingredients in another bowl, then add the wet to the dry and mix it all together.

Make small “balls” of the mix with wet hands and flatten on a mold (put baking paper on the mold so it doesn’t stick). You can also use a teaspoon instead of your hands.

Bake for 10 minutes in medium heat (180 Celsius) or until the cookies are gold around the edge but still soft in the middle. Cool down before removing from mold.

    Enjoy!

  • AVN

Yes, I just kept getting boxes for Christmas and unfortunately I’m not a very disciplined guy, so once I have one, I’ll not stop until the whole box is gone. Not good I know, so it’s great that Lent’s here and also Zuzana (and I hope you Fred) are giving up the chocs for a month. I think the lack of discipline lies in the fact that I am very lucky with my genetics! Keep up the fantastic work guys – are you feeling claustrophobic yet on “the Rock”, or you still loving the weather?

Starting the No Sugar fast today…see if i can make it :P

  • Kali

I love your workouts I have decided to do them!!! To get your body do you do any running along with your workouts?

  • Mike

Joining you on this, I started on the paleo diet on the 16th.

  • http://bodyrock Ann Marie

Hi! Love these workouts..short, but very intense!! I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions on following these workouts when you’re not near a computer?? Example: I’d love do do some of the strength exercises at the gym after my cardio, but I would forget Zuzana’s workout…any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!!

  • Carrie

I’m in for the challenge! I started a few days prior to your challenge so I’m excited that I’m already on track. My coffee is really good with out sugar and I plan on keeping it that way. I’ve noticed that as long as I stay away from all things sweet I don’t crave it, and I actually feel better. As for the what to do when you do want something sweet, I did something I’ve only thought about….I grilled some fruit. Why hadn’t I done this before?? It works like a charm!! Thanks so much for sharing so much to both of you!

  • kamini

    hi zuzana

i accidentally came across your video on youtube. u are incredible at what u do. i have just had 2 kids. 1 is 2 yr old and the other 9 months old. i had them through csection delivery as they were both lieing in a breech presentation. due to that i am now left with a 5 finger width abdominal diastsis. what exercises can i do to help close the diastasis, and what exercises should i not do? i was slim before and now i still look 5 months pregnant.

i presently just use an elliptical machine. just started a week ago, and i try to loose 500 calories each time. my weekness is sugar, so i am going to try to start your 30 day challenge. its never too late.

also i would like to know, to achieve the body that u ahve, do u just do these short workouts everyday? or do u exercise several times a day, weightlifting or anything else?

also it would be grt if u can provide with your daily workout, what u ate for the day. you motivate me!thanks

  • Kimberly

Brilliant! Thanks so much Chris L, Ill make sure to try those out:)

    Kim

  • eric

I’m in on the 30 day challenge. I’m a 50 year old x competitive bodybuilder thats always looking for new workouts. I’m hooked on your web site and workouts and have told many others about it. Thanks for your super motivation.

i loveeee your blog/work out videos! ive been really into working out since i was little, but now that im actually researching things and taking more tips i can totally see my body transforming ..your great! im gonna start your 30 day challenge …even though im alittle late =)

  • http://ozziepossum-diyhealthfitness.blogspot.com/ ozziepossum

Sadly I have not committed to the 30 days challenge yet. I’ve had birthdays and other celebrations to attend so it has been almost impossible to pass on the sugar (birthday cakes etc)

I will be taking up this challenge in the future though. For me, it shouldn’t be too hard. I cut the sugar from my coffee about a year ago. I went cold turkey from chocolate for a few months (it has crept back into my diet) And I don’t particularly like cakes and biscuits.

My only real vice is alcohol. I love a drink when I reach my days off, usually only one day out of eight though (I work on an eight day week) So if I can cut out the alcohol I think that will be my challenge!

    Dee

Aussie Aussie Aussie, No sugar in my coffee!!

The one month challange sounds like a good idea im going to try it and at 3:35 is that a workout for your abs? im not a profesional lol not even close in the gym so i was just wondering.

  • Maria L.

I’m in too starting today, 2/22/2010. In my work there’s a lot of sweets and so tempting then I’ll try hard to say NO NO NO NO NO… gotta do this challenge. I’ll start this workout too in the morning. Hmm, my weight this morning was umm…. I guess 127 or 128 lbs… I’ll treat myself too with something NOT food, of course. :)

  • Bon

I have been looking for a new workout to try, and I came across some of your videos online. I had abdominal surgery a month ago, and i have about two weeks until the DR will clear me to resume exercise. between the surgery and this long recovery time..I have gained some weight and I am ready to start taking it off! I am inspired by your workouts, how intense they are, the short amount of time , and that you can do them at home without expensive equipment. I also love the idea of the 30 day challenge..I can start that tomorrow, without the DR saying “ok” ! I wanted to ask if you do any cardio training in addition to these workouts? I always thought cardio was a MUST in order to burn calories and fat.
I am looking forward to trying some of your workouts..I am looking forward to my DR giving me a “YES” to exercise again!

    Blessings to you!

  • Trevor Kazaks

    Hello!

I really would like to try your no sugar for 1 month stride, but for me it would be very hard. I am diabetic going on 20 years now. I am 20 years old. I have been recently losing control of my blood sugars and really been bad with it lately… Do you have any advice on foods that will stabilize my blood sugar throughout the day, or even for the workouts alone?

    Thanks!

  • http://suki-cho.spaces.live.com/default.aspx Suki

    Hi Zuzana

Today I took my laptop with me to the gym so you could be my personal trainer.
I felt so sick while doing the core sets! Mainly because I am out of shape. You make it look so easy and I wasn’t expecting it to be that difficult. But tomorrow I will try again but I’ll make sure I eat an apple first so I don’t get dizzy again.
I will join you on the 30 day challenge! My reward will be a nice new bathing suit. :D

    Thanks!

  • http://suki-cho.spaces.live.com/default.aspx Suki

i took zuzana on my laptop to the gym with me but maybe you could take notes like draw stick people in a little note pad with you to the gym or if you know how to take screen captures you can print them out and write notes on them. :D It’s hard to remember!

    Hi Kimberly,

Let me know how the experimentation goes.

You might look for an old Microwave Cookbook as at one time the Microwave Oven was the fashionable way to cook everything! And remember to use different energy levels as veggies will burn easily and taste better slightly under cooked as opposed to massively over cooked.

BTW, I do the boiling water cooking of Bulgar every week.

    Good luck,
    –Chris

  • Audra Gatti

Keep a workout journal. Get a small notepad and take notes down and take it with you to the gym. I too forget the routines and I find that this works very well. Also, get the interval timer so you don’t have to constantly check the clock.

    Hope this helps ;)

  • Blake Johns

    Hi,
I’m new here and I’ll tell you what I am really excited to try some of these workouts! Zuzana I love your passion for what you do it’s incredibly motivating to have someone to inspire you along with your routines.
I’m writing this in a response to Brianna’s comment because she asked why honey would be allowed on the no sugar diet, but before I respond to that I want to say that this particular diet is being tried by Steve Nash! Cool, huh? Well I think anyways … you can check out the link here its really informative: C:\Users\Blake\Desktop\living-sugar-free.htm
Anyways, Brianna, honey is actually great for your body right when you wake up in the morning. Your metabolism is a lot faster during the hours after you wake up and eating honey supplies a great source of carbs (energy) for you to use up, especially if you work out in the morning (another great thing for you!) =)

  • Blake Johns

Count me in! I just love your site. This is awesome. I was getting bored of the same workout all the time. I will keep my routine but I will mix in some of your videos. This is awesome. I don’t have to buy stuff on the internet. I’m a college student and I really think you are nice to put up the videos for free.

    Thanks,

    Hi Zuzana!
I am always trying to find different ways to work out and I broke my hand over the weekend so I cannot do your workouts anymore but I wanted to ask what can i do with one hand only? ALSO I am joining you in your one month challenge and I too will reward myself with a charm for my favorite bracelette! Thanks!

Im in for the one month challenge!!!! Its on :)

  • http://harropbunch.blogspot.com Janae

I’ve been doing your 1 month challenge and was wondering if you might know why I’m craving more bread…The past 2 days have been ruff. Yeah, I have been craving sugar, but don’t know why I’ve begun to crave more breads. Thanks for this challenge! I needed this push to help me to where I want to be by the summer, Thanks!!!

  • Sarah

I know I am a few days behind on this challenge, but I’m going to join in. I’ve decided to extend mine till April 1st. When I accomplish the ban on sweets & obtain my body measurement goal by April 1st I’m going to treat myself to a knew designer handbag.

Zuzana, I am 5′ 1″ (very petite) a year ago on April 1st I started my lifestyle change. I weighed 138 pounds, which is a lot for someone my height. But to this day I have lost 24 pounds and 5 inches on my waist. You have been a HUGE motivation for me to keep striving for more when it comes to my body and health.

    Thank you,
    Sarah

  • Martha

Hey, well i’m starting tomorrow :) I had a small bit of sugar today,so i will not eat anymore sugar today and I will start fresh in the morning. I find your workouts very helpful Zuzana, thankies :) I’m doing my exams this year and it is helping me very much when I work out :) Im stress free :) I’m so in for a month :)
    Martha :)

    Zuzana,

I just wanted to say thank you for posting the recent procrastination and one month challenge posts! It could not have come at a better time. Recently, I have been slacking enormously with my diet and workouts, very unlike me. Sometimes I’ve taking off 2 days, but lately I’ve allowed even 4-5 days off!?!?!? It’s very unlike me and has caused me to crave and eat a HUGE amount of sweets and unhealthy sugar treats! I am totally in on this one month challenge…as soon as I read your post, I called a couple of people and they are doing it with me! It’s so much easier and encouraging when you have others around you with the same fitness goals and desires…I have completed day one, visualizing the prize, of my new beautiful body, and it wasn’t even that hard! Thank you so much Zuzana! Keep it up!-)

  • Amy B

I cannot do this one month challenge. I eat really clean daily and I am not trying to loose weight, however when I take away a small piece of dark chocolate or a small glass of wine ( I only have one once a month and I mix it with club soda) I feel like I am depriving myself and that has only led to binging later. Do you find this? Will you do a little crazy when the one month is over? I find balance the key to maintaining my healthy goal weight.

  • Kostas

Ahead of you. Been sugar free for almost 2 months and going for the third. A cup of tea (never liked coffee), three fruits (07:00, 12:00, 18:00) and two salads per day. If you like bananas you should know that in many diets it counts as two fruits since it hasn’t much juice. Prefer fruits that aren’t sweet like apple and Kiwi.
I lost 11Kg in the last three months, eating everything else normally and weighting now 74Kg (180cm height).
The trick is to eat all the vegetables and fruits before anything else.

    Keep up the Good work

I bought a index card binder- record the name of the exersize, the specific exersizes needed, reps, any tips you think you’ll need, and interval timing. Then record away while your at the gym.

The index cards are nice because unlike a notebook you can just bring one card with you and leave the binder at home.

  • James

I came across youtube video of urs and saw this video with one month of challenge. I have decided to take this one month challenge and see how long I can hold this challenge. Good luck to me and all others who have decided to take this challenge.

  • SoCal Brian

I’m in!! I just finished my very own ultimate 30 day body transformation and am ready to get going with your challenge!!

  • Nicole

I’m on Day 6 of the 30-Day Challenge! I’m a total chocolate addict, and I am definitely guilty of eating more sugar than is good for me. I’m finding it a bit tough today, I think because it’s a weekend and I often eat when I’m bored. So, I’m pushing myself to do some type of physical activity instead. So far, so good. Keep up the great work everyone! :)

  • Maria L.

I’ve been with no treat no sugar one month challenge since 2/22/10 and yesterday, 2/27/10 we went to a party with tempting cakes and rocky road ice cream and cream and cookies ice cream which happen to be my favorite, but I said I’m still on my challenge. I didn’t eat any sweets eventhough they’re my favorite, isn’t that amazing? Wow! I’m proud of myself. :)

  • Henriett

I am a fitness-trainer from Hungary. I find this side three mounths ago, I “stolen” many exercises from Suzanne. She is the best, I am so happy that I find her!!! Thank You so much!

I have decided to take up this one month task of giving up sugars! I have a sweet tooth, but I want to see if I can do this because I have done this stuff before but never saw anyone who had a program/ video with people who actually do it too! I want to prove to other people that I can do this and so can they!

Hi Im new watching your videos, and I have a very sedentary life after I have my child. Before I was very compromise to my health and body, but lately is so hard for me. I see your videos and you gave me hope to start again. Some advice for start from 0, I am 33 years old, high 5.1 cm. and 130 pounds, please help me

  • Edit

I started this challenge at 1 March. So far it’s okay, from the moment I’ve decided not to eat a thing that contains sugar, it’s easy … I usually avoid pastas, pizza, cakes, and food that contains white flour. Besides, I go every day to aerobic, but my weight is not less and I dont’ know why… I’m 177 cm and 71 kg, and I wanna lose 10 kgs … can you tell me what to do to start losing weight?!
    Thanks
    a fan of yours

    Hi Jane,
Just start following my Daily Workouts and have fun!

  • peter

How much thinner can you get? Whats the point?

Love your workouts, for me (31) they’re ridiculously effective, unlike anything i tired in my life… doing 50% of reps only once for a week or two make me look and feel so much better.

I figured out eating all those diets just makes one look sad and unhealthy and worrying person. After I stopped putting sugar to tea, and a butter on bread result were really not good. We just need to eat all that stuff like a normal person… What works for me is eating everything, moving more, more sun, thats all, don’t overdo it, professional olympic grade, sport is not healthy at all.

    Cheers

  • Bbln

    Hello :)

I’m joining your challenge as of today. Wishing everybody success and all the best!

  • Lvette

Going back on this challenge tomorrow after drinking Tim Horton’s ice cappuccino, energy drink at the airport. Not a big set back, I was going great since the first day Zuzana threw out the challenge. Damm ice cap!!

    Hi Zuzana and Fredrick,

I wanted to share an amazing yummy recipe with you. It is a sweet treat that satisfys the craving for something bad!! Best of all it is all raw and no sugar at all….just honey. I try to use all organic ingredients as well if you can. You can make this in a food processor or a blender. Here it is:

    Coconut Fudge:

    1 cup melted coconut oil
2 cups of nut better (peanut, almond cashew butters)
    1 cup of honey
    1 cup of cocoa
Add whatever crunch/texture you want: ground raw seeds or nuts, coconut, raisins, cranberries…
Combine all ingredients in food processor or blender, mix it all up and pour in a cooking pan and put in fridge to set.

That’s it!! So easy and you will be blown away at how yummy it is. I keep mine in the freezer. It’s the perfect guilt free treat!! I hope you like it!

    Cheers…. Emma

  • Kim

Hi Zuzana, I was just wondering, is bodyrock.tv your job or do you have another job?

  • Rebecca

Emma, I’m sure it’s yummy but isn’t coconut oil unhealthy?

  • Nathalie

Good news Zuzana, for all us chocolate lovers !

    http://www.thatsfit.ca/2010/03/11/yes-you-can-have-your-chocolate-red-wine-and-coffee-in-moder/

I vote dark chocolate to be excluded from one month challenge the same way fruits and honney are :P

    Take care

Yes I am trying the one month challenge and am 5 days into it and im doing good but it’s hard when my husband always eats sweets and has them just lying around. But I am doing the six week program and this is the first site and exercises that i have done in a while that I was sore. I really like it and will continue and try to finish.

  • Tamarah

    Hi Emma

Also a fan of Z&F’s workouts and have just tried this amazing recipe of yours … thank you! Yummy!

I just put all the ingredients into a saucepan over low heat and melted the lot then added three cups of meusli cereal to give it that crunch … divine!

    Thank you again

Don’t lose weight, lose fat and gain muscles. That is perhaps what you have been already doing – muscles are heavier that fat – that’s why your weight stays the same. What is recommended – be carefull about your waist centimetres. Usually 1cm less means 1kg of fat less.

  • liza

where are you zuzana!!!! I miss ur workouts…I workout the same days as u do and i already had a week off

  • Emma

    Hey Rebecca,

I think coconut oil is one of those healthy fats. I’m no expert but here is a link I found:

    http://www.organicfacts.net/organic-oils/organic-coconut-oil/health-benefits-of-coconut-oil.html

Since Feb 22, 2010 I started this 30 days no sweets challenge and now is already 3/17/2010 and I’m still strong not to break it. I’ve been to some birthday parties and handed me some ice cream, cakes, even chocolates but I let them know I cannot eat them as I’m on my challenge. I might go and buy that Gymboss timer once I hit March 22, 2010. Well, I’m getting use not to crave for sweets anymore. I usually look for candies in the afternoon, and now no more. Thanks to your site. :)

Arghhhh, I ate sugar on my 20th day. It kind of sneaked up on me, I didn’t even realize I was eating it until I was half way through :/

Aside from that, I have been really disciplined, but I will start a month over anyway. It can’t hurt :)

Soo, when you fisrt started the challange, I couldn’t even imagine that I could give up eating sugar, buut after doing my exercise challanges, doing them everdyday for more than a month now, it really became a good habit, so I’m hopig that if i eliminate sugar then maybe I gonna lose 2 kg which I’m trying to lose for the longest time, and plus give up eating cookies everyday and plus putting sugar in my oatmeal, I gave up drinking tea with sugar about 2 months ago, and now I can’t even drink it with sugar, so today is April 18 th and I’mn hopefully gonna be finished by May 18 and in May 22nd I gonna finish school too, YAYYYY and in a few days I gonna go back to my country, so exciting, so I wanna look really goood. and before that I’m also gonna do at least 20 Z’s wotkouts, plus my tennis practises, everyday for 2 hours, plus gym and running, OHH and I’m gonna become semivegeterian.
If not you I would have probably given up for exercising, or just exercise lightly, so tahnk you so much for everything, and for making me believe that I can do it!!!

I have started my one month challenge on August 9 and I’m still following it! First five days were really hard for me, as I have got sweet tooth, but then you stop feeling craving for sweets. But I don’t lose weight, in spite of the fact that I don’t take any sugar at all.
But I’m continuing with my diet and I hope I can stick to this diet up to 9 September.
