My New Kindle Is Awesome!

Hi everyone,

I hope that you are having a great day. Today I got the most amazing present from Freddy – a new Amazon Kindle :) I have wanted this little gadget for a very long time – it was always so frustrating for me to have to leave my books behind every time we moved. You have no idea how many great cook books I have left behind in all the places that we have lived – it breaks my heart to think about them :) This little device will store about 1500 books for me plus it will save me money, because the e-books for the Kindle are much cheaper than the books you buy in the store. I love everything about it. It reminds me of the first time I used online banking to pay my  bills from the comfort of my home – something that I couldn’t even imagine before. Now I don’t have to go to the bank or to the bookstore – and I can carry around my entire library of books and magazines in my purse. The coolest thing about the Kindle is that you can order just about any book and it arrives in just about 60 seconds anywhere there is a mobile phone signal. This is very cool because the signal to the Kindle is also free. This blows my mind. I can be anywhere and have any book, magazine or newspaper in my hands in a minute. If you are book lover like Freddy and I this is huge!

The first book that I bought was not actually a cook book (surprise) it’s all about bodyweight workouts and the benefits of this kind of training. The book is called: You Are Your Own Gym, by Mark Lauren. It has been a great read so far, and it has just been reinforcing what we have been talking about and practicing here on BodyRock.

Anyway, I thought it would be fun to start sharing the books Freddy and I are reading (Freddy has a Kindle too) and we can all recommend good reads to each other :)

See you tomorrow,

Zuzana.

Congrats on your new kindle!!! I’ve heard some great things about that gadget. I wanted to get it myself before but, I ended up getting the itouch. ;) Isn’t it so great when you can download so many books in one little thing that you could carry around everywhere? I think it’s amazing how technology can make our lives so much more convenient. By the way, just to mention some of the stuff in my itouch, I have a whole series of timeless classic novels, vitamin encyclopedia, language dictionaries, recipe books, gymboss (your other favorite!:) ), movies, etc. I just love love my itouch. Anyways, I hope that you have lots of fun with your kindle.

  • Chris K.

Dang, I’ve never heard of that thing before. Really, really badass.

  • Rosario

Hi, that`s great, I didn`t know that this even exist.
Let me recomend THE KIND DIET, by Alicia Silverstone, it is a great healthy vegan cook book.

  • ivy

:]hey guys! happy for you that you got your kindle!
have you guys gotten your own car yet??

p.s. thanks for all the workouts!!!

  • http://www.janetspreiter.com Janet

I have wondered about getting a kindle vs i-pad. Since I can’t make my mind up I have neither, but I do have about a couple of teetering two foot tall piles of books at the kitchen table :) I am also not sure how I would enjoy staring at an electronic device to read. Seems like more eyestrain. I am curious what you find with yours.

  • http://30bananasaday.com Windlord

    Neat gift :)
Was this a special occasion present or simply a kind thinking-of-you by Freddy?

Not sure if these are Kindle-ized yet, but as you add to your new fitness library, you might consider these two titles:

    http://www.rosstraining.com/nevergymless.html

    http://www.dragondoor.com/b41.html

  • Olga

Hi congrats ))))I have the e-book too and I love it.
I read it everywhere in a plane, bus, underground. And I’m moving often too so I totaly understand you

  • http://30bananasaday.com Windlord

ooh, and on the food front (a mutually fave topic of our ;), you’d be fascinated by these two:

    http://foodnsport.com/shop/books/the-80-10-10-diet.html
(includes many simple and remarkably delish recipes with fruits and veg)

  • hb

Nice toy, but nothing for me, because i will feel und smell the paper from magazins, books and newspapers.
But for traveling it´s a perfect alternativ.

  • http://thefruitpersuit.punt.nl Sabine

I would LOVE for you guys to share the books you are reading, especially cookbooks and anything diet/nutrition/exercise related. I read a lot of books on those topics as well, and I am about to receive Tosca Reno’s eat clean diet book (I got the cookbook delivered before that actual book, haha, the cookbook is also great btw). I am also currently reading on intuïtve eating, but I guess you won’t need that Zuzana?

Could you give an estimate on prices of Kindle books?

    love, sabine

  • http://fithappyhealthy.com Anita

Awesome Zuzana! I love my Kindle too – for the same reasons you said. I read so much nowadays so it’s great to have all your books in one simple place.

The great thing is if you have an iPhone you can use the Kindle app on it too. It makes it so much easier if you get stuck having to wait somewhere (doctor’s office, airport) – there’s never a dull moment. And like you said – you don’t have to wait for delivery.

An awesome book I recently finished that you might enjoy is Body by Science by John Little and Doug McGuff, although the pics may be a little weird on the Kindle…

  • Maya

Wow, that must be very practical! Looks really nice. But still I wonder if it doesn´t hurt your eyes…

PS: and I am looking forward to your recommendations of books…I wish I could get the book You are your own gym, but here in Europe, it´s pretty much problem to order from U.S.

  • http://abundantlife-katie.blogspot.com Katie

I just got the Kindle for PC. I don’t have a kindle shop or a shop that sells them here in New Zealand so Amazon gave me a free program to download and I can order books online and read them on my laptop! Its so cheap buying these books, I can’t believe it! Thanks for posting this :)

  • Adelina

I’m a big reader too and I hate that sometimes I can’t take my books with me!I should get me one of those Kindles! I’m looking forward to your book recommendations! You are the best Zuzana :D

  • http://www.fitnessweblog.com Andrea

I have a Kindle too. They are brilliant! Lucky you to get one as a gift :)

  • Meghan G

I have always wanted a kindle as well! I saw it on Oprah a couple years back and ordered one immediately because she was offering a promo code for $50 off. But then I found out they could not be used in Canada- so I canceled my order. So I’m assuming they now work in Canada since you have one…. :)

  • Sarah

Cool! I didn’t even know such a thing existed! Haha :P
    Great idea :)

  • desiree

That’s awesome you have a great husband. I think you are so beautiful and it’s even more lovely to see how you share your lives with us. Great workouts, getting ready to go on a vacation an these workouts are brutal!

  • Roq

I LOVE my books and enjoy educating myself. I would definitely like to hear about the books you are reading!! ….and the websites you are surfing. My favorite books are…

Starting strength by Mark Rippetoe & Lon Kilgore – it’s an amazing book. Even though I don’t use barbells in my training right now, which is the focus of the book, I think it’s very useful in my training as it has made me understand what to look out for regarding my form. I understand my body a lot more now than before. As an example, 44 pages focus on the deadlift and 60 pages on the squat. Great book!! I can’t recommend it highly enough!

All of Ross Enamaits books. He uses a lot of the same principles you do. I would especially recommend Infinite intensity and Never gymless. He has a no nonsense approach to training. A former boxer who trains boxers (and non-boxers). He is also very motivational. Love him!!!

Convict conditioning by Paul “Coach” Wade. There is a progression to six different exercises in the book. Each exercise has ten progressions. The goal is to master the one arm push up, the one legged squat, the one arm pull up, the leg raise, the bridge and the one arm handstand push up. Everyone can do the easiest form shown and then it’s just working your way gradually to master the aforementioned exercises.

I have a lot of other books. Like Pavel’s books that I think are overrated. I think the four books I mentioned really stand out!

What I would like to buy is Purposeful primitive by Marty Gallagher and the book you just bought also sounds intriguing.

  • http://www.bodyrock.tv/2010/06/14/any-ideas-to-help-newbies/ anna

hello…. i m watchig u for a long time.. i ve seen you moving from malta to prague. . . and from prague to kanada.. so.. i wanna ask u something.. are u workig. . how are u living gyes.. please answer i was thinking this for a long time..

  • Roq

The second I submitted my comment I regretted what I said about Pavel’s books. I’m not saying that I think Pavel is overrated and I’m definitely not saying that I think the contents of his books are of no value. Absolutely not!! I just think there is not a lot of content. That’s all. Sorry about that.

  • Carmen

This site just keeps getting better and better. I have Mark Lauren’s book and I liked it a lot, not so much for the exercises but for his philosophy about working out.

btw: My abs……I found them!!!!!! I carry my weight up top, so it took a little longer, but it worked! I did your Six Pack Abs and Love Handles 3 Workout Series this week, and I’ve been real strict with my portions, carbs, and protein, eating mostly just veg and fruit this past month, and it worked! So I thank you and my abs thank you!!

Of course, I’m going out tonight with friends so I’ll eat and drink probably a little too much, but I feel great right now and I’m gonna feel great tonight!!!!! Yipeeee!

  • PaulaW

I’ve been wanting to check these out. Do they show pictures, graphics or charts? For instance, cook books and exercise books always have pictures — does it show them? In color?

  • http://soasadesigns.com Robin Marie

    Hi Zuzana!

I just found your website (someone linked it from Tom Venuto’s Inner Circle) and I watched your latest workout. I was drawn to it because I just started Mark Lauren’s program from You Are Your Own Gym. How interesting that you are just reading it as well! I am now doubly enthusiastic about trying your workout. It looks like it will be great! I’ve been thinking about adding an extra day or two to Lauren’s program, because 4 days is kind of light for me.

Anyhow, I just wanted to say thanks for doing great work, and I’m excited to have found your site!

    Robin Marie

  • mag

and great book that you bought, i didn’t read it but it sounds like what you always teach us haha =), please share with us those new tips and new excercises in your workout that are so cool!!!

  • Ariana O.

Oh my I’ve thought about getting one but there’s something so nice about going to the bookstore and mindlessly walking about the aisles, enjoying the smell of books and finding a good read.

  • Camille

Hi Zuzana, I have a question for you and it’s not related with the kindle at all :) even if I admit that this thing is awesome.

My question is about breasts and bras :)
I’m starting your workouts but I don’t have any sport bra and I noticed that when you do your workouts, your breasts never move (sorry I know it sounds weird).
Your bras seem to absorb all the shocks.

So I need some advice. What kind of bra should I buy ? Because I want to protect my breasts but the sport bras are pretty expensive… I don’t want to pick the wrong one.
Something with medium or strong support ? With stays ? Yours do not seem to be boned and they work pretty well.
Does it have to be really tight or should I feel confortable ? How long do they last ? Is one enough ?

I hope you’ll have time to answer my girl question. Maybe Frederick knows ? lol

    Hi Zuzana,
I am soooooooo excited, you just convinced me to buy the Kindle. I’ve been doing my homework for awhile now and just couldn’t decide. I own a Iphone and downlowed the Kindle for Iphone app. I love it and have at least 13 books in there. My only complaint is the the screen is rather small. It is soooooo easy to buy books and they do download in seconds. I’m giddy with excitment. My birthday is in a few weeks and I WILL pick up the Kindle as a gift to myself. What convinced me was that the signal is free. One question did you guys pick up the Kindle DX or the Kindle 2? Anyway enjoy your new Kindle ,happy reading and thanks so much for sharing so much with us. This is the best website I’ve ever come across. Kindle Rocks!!!!!!!!!!

  • astrothsknot

What does your particular taste in books run to?

  • aylin

I have been wanting a kindle for a long time.
i am a 15 year old so i do read often.
I am hoping for Christmas i might get one.
And you are my idol because you have a great body, you take care of it, you have a sense of humor, you aren’t really into the party scene, and you educate yourself by reading. I want to be just like you. Zuzana and Fredrick, you guys have done a great job:)

  • IsABEL

congrats, i want 1 too, :) how much it cost?

  • Andrea

I just bought that book too a few days ago! A few of the exercises that you do (that I’ve never seen before), are in the book, it made me excited every time I recognized something from your site…or discovered a new way of doing something.

I’ve looked and looked – there are not many “pure” bodyweight books out there. Most that claim to be about bodyweight training still include dumbbells, curlbars etc, which is NOT what I want. Mark Laurens book is a good start.

I am a total bodyweight training convert because of you guys…I love it…my body has never looked better or more perfectly proportioned. And I can’t believe how little time is spent working out.

You might remember me, I wrote about 2 months ago that I had badly broken my leg, and was upset that I wouldn’t be able to get that *hot* body for summer…

…WELL! I’ve been using my chin up bar and seriously doing chin ups, pull ups, inverted rows, hanging leg raises etc…and my upper body and core look FANTASTIC!! My stomach is so tight and flat!

so that’s 2/3 of my body looking good for summer…(I can’t really do much with my legs at the moment, lol) so I’m very happy. But I can’t wait until I can get back to some squats!

  • Nicole D Lopez

Aww, goodness! That is just great, Zuzana. I am so happy for you. I love that you two move around so much because you want to and I can only imagine how tough it must be to leave things behind. It’s great that there are things like the Kindle that exist for people like you.

And thank you for sharing the book you are reading now. No joke, I am going to go out and find that book now and read it. So, thank you :)

Enjoy your new toy, and have a great day!

  • Deborah

I have a kindle & love it! Now I have to go buy that book!

  • d.

    hey zuzana and frederick,
well i always was curious about the kindle and ebook since they came out, and wondered how well they worked. I wanted to ask you if the screen is as large as an average book page, or if it was a pain to scroll down the page and change to the next page. i don’t know, i also always liked the “feel” of having a book, but this seems a little more handy for people who travel a lot, or don’t want to carry around or store a ton of books. Also, do you need a credit card to buy the books off amazon, because well.. i’m too young to have a credit card! lol, but do you know if a debit card would work, because that’s what my dad has. And i doubt they take cash.. i’ll have to look into it though, you definately got me interested[great advertisement ;)].

it would be a cool idea though if it had a library where you could just borrow the books on the kindle, and then return them :) haha they should add that!

glad this is so much more conveinent for both of you though!

    take care,
    d.

Hello Zuzana. I was giving a look to your Workout Archives and i decided to post for you something i have been thinking lately but it was just not visually “confirmed”. So, now that i watched this video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2wUggst2bPA&feature=related), i realized that by this time you looked very very good, femenine and healthy. Im a follower fo your site. I really like, respect and admire you for your body work, because im on the same route. Lately i have been seeing you too thin and personally i think you would look better, as a Woman who is also an athlet, with some kilos more my girl. This is my sincere and respectful opinion. Besides this.. nice job with the new appereance of the site and your new gift “Με γεία!” (Greek expression said to someone who has got something new).

  • thuan

thats awesome! i have a kindle as well.. i love it! :D so convenient having all the things i wanna read on one slim device! and the battery lasts so long.. its great! :)

    Hey guys!

A great book to check out! It’s written by two Naturopathic doctors and it’s on the topic of fitness and nutrition. I’ve heard them speak, and they’re really amazing. Their philosophy is very in line with Bodyrock. Enjoy!

  • Meghan G

I believe Zuzana has had breast enhancement, that is why her breasts never move :P It is a lucky thing. I also have trouble finding a bra to support my rather large breasts lol. Its is definitely worth the investment to get at least one good bra!

p.s pardon my answering her question Zuzana. I don’t mean to be rude or offensive. But I’m pretty sure I have seen this question asked before, and I hope I am right in what I have said.

  • MERCY

Here are some books you may like (may have already read): HOUSE OF SAND AND FOG BY Andre Dubus 111, STONES FROM THE RIVER by Ursula Hegi and I KNOW THIS MUCH TO BE TRUE BY Wally Lamb. I told my husband I want a Kindly for my b.day in August. We’re both avid readers;I often read 3-5 books at a time. Read form one for 1-2 hours and pick up another and read it for 1-2 hours, etc. We often sit with the t.v. on,but we’re both reading.

  • insungirl

    Hi Camille,

I thought I’d give you a few tips about sports bras. The kind of support you need depends on two things:

    1. How big your breasts are
    2. How vigorous the exercise is

I’m a D and when I’m doing jumping or running, I need a lot of support. Most sports bras are labelled to indicate the level of exercise you’re doing and the sizes are either labelled with cup size or just S, M, L.

Traditionally, sports bras didn’t have wires or even hooks and worked by compression, that is they just strapped you down really tight. Sometimes I would even wear 2 at once or buy them a size too small, although this does lead to “mono-boob”!

Design is getting better these days, so I would try on lots of styles. My favorite one now has hooks in the back, velcro strap adjustments, and flexible wiring along the bottom. Just make sure you jump around in the dressing room to test it out.

Also, depending on how often and strenuously you exercise, 1 probably won’t be enough. If I don’t get too sweaty, I might wear it twice before it goes in the laundry although I’m sure other people will think that’s gross.

Good luck with your bra adventure!!

  • Charlie D.

I would love to hear the books you like – and not just the food and fitness ones.

  • Francine

Congrats on your new Kindle!! I have the free Kindle application downloaded on my Macbook, it’s amazing :P

I enjoy cookbooks as well. I found this one, which is really fun to read and quite interesting!…you might enjoy reading it.

  • http://www.fitnessweblog.com Andrea

The screen on the Kindle is not backlit (unlike a computer screen) so you can read for hours without any kind of eye strain. It’s just like reading a book. That is one of the advantages of the Kindle over other devices.

  • http://www.fitnessweblog.com Andrea

Photos are in black and white.

  • Sebby

    That’s cool..never heard of that in Singapore…

  • astrothsknot

If it’s high impact stuff, like Zuzana’s workouts, you need a strong support bra. Go to a sports specialist shop and see what they have on offer – most bra companies have a sports range and most sports clothing companies have a bra/top range. Try it on in the shop and do some jogs or jumps and if you like the feel and the support, buy it. If not, try another bra/top. There’s tonnes on the market, so you’re bound to find something that fits comfortably.

  • astrothsknot

I should have mentioned – they don’t need underwire or boning – though such bras are available. You can have one to start with and wash it every night if that’s all you can afford – they are expensive for a good one, though many shops and websites do have sales and discount stores. Careful shopping can net good deals. I’d recommend two – one on, one in the wash, if you can afford it.

It should be comfortable and supportive, not tight and not loose. You should be able to get no more than a finger under the straps and between the bra and the breastbone. At the back, no more than two fingers. Any more, it’s too loose and won’t support you, any less, it’s too tight and will be agony to wear. Just like fitting any other bra.

Get measured at a lingerie shop before you go looking so you have your latest size. Get measured every 6 months, because your shape will really change over that time particularly with this kind of exercise

  • napoelono

I second the rosstraining link. He’s an amazing guy who is always willing to help out people interested in getting into shape. I think you’d really like the “inspirational” section of his website. Very motivational.

  • Ashley P

I would always get e-mails asking me me to purchase one, but I never knew quite what it was. Sorry you had to leave your books behind. Hope you find all the books you want to your heart’s desire.

  • Andrea

Congratulations! My kindle was the best purchase I’d made since the palm pilot! Enjoy!! Love your site. :)

  • Melissa

Augmented breasts don’t really move all that much:) Sounds like yours do and you might need strong support. How many to buy? How much do you workout?

Zuzana-you must be so flattered that people ask these kind of ridiculous questions because they are so enthralled with your every move! You are the fitness goddess;)

  • Debbie

I found the link to your site which someone had posted on Tom Venuto’s Inner Circle site. I am from NZ and have been thoroughly inpsired by your workouts and enthusiasm.
I am in the “older age” group but still young at heart & love to workout with intensity.
Thanks for generously sharing your day, tips & life.
    YOU GUYS ROCK!!!!

  • dareen

    Hey guys
This is a great really …I loved it… Thank you Susanna

I have honestly never heard of the “Kindle” before, will now have to look into it! I love to read as well and this sounds SO nifty! Thanks for sharing :)

What? Why not an iPad ???????

  • Frederick

    Very cool :)

  • leyla

This is awsome, but I have to say – I’d really miss the touch, the smell and teh feeling of a real book! I read a lot online, but I always love it to have a real book in my hands. It just feels different :)

  • Lisa

The kiindle is cool, I had it until the iPad became available……but there is no comparison now….iPad blows it away!!

  • http://www.bodyrock.tv/ Zuzana – BodyRock.Tv

Do not tell me this :) I am already thinking about the iPad – all these new gadgets are just so cool. I love technology :)

  • michaelhill

I think I need one of those things as my shelves are getting full of books I can’t get rid of. However, the cost is prohibitive to me.

I think Freddy likes to display pictures of you – lucky guy.

  • Kristina

I think that Kindle is one of the best inventions ever and I am so jealous (in a good way :)), and want one bad!!! It is such a time saver, just like your workouts. Long time ago I tried going to the gym and gave up after a week because it would take up two hours of my time, but since now I am doing your workouts I save myself that time and use it to go out and have great time with my family or my friends. And when I get my kindle, that will save my weekend time too, I don’t have a bookstore close by and to go to and from it’s an hour and a half and that time could be spent reading, not driving :).

  • Lloyd

Why would you leave your books behind every time you move?
To me that’s like leaving your furniture or your cat behind.

  • Shawnie

I love my new Kindle as well…My parents just gave me one for my birthday on June 11 and I have already downloaded 100 books! (I have only finished 5 of them!!!)

I know you are probably thinking, “This chick must be made of money (and have a lot of time on her hands!)” But here’s the really great news if you did not already know: type “Public Domain” into the search box and you will come up with a plethora of free books to choose from!!! Woo-hoo!

I am not made of money, (I am made of love) but I do have a lot of time on my hands right now!!!

I downloaded some books regarding a hard place I am in my life right now…and I am looking for some answers. I do not agree with all of what I have been reading by this guy but anyway I did find a lot of answers in a book entitled, “The Physics Of Miracles” by Richard Bartlett…WOW, it is really blowing my mind! I am expecting a miracle, meanwhile all things are working together for my good!!!

    Blessings,
    Shawnie

  • Shawnie

I am still thinking about the ipad even tho my folks just gave me the Kindle for my birthday!!! I’m a gadget girl too!!!

BUT …One reason I have not spent the $moolah on the ipad is because it would be too easy for me to get distracted with everything that the internet has to offer with the ipad…I would never get a book finished if I had the option of getting distracted by the internet right there at my fingertips!!! Ha-ha, just me and my silliness.

Don’t get me wrong I would NOT turn down an ipad as a gift!!! I’m not interested in dropping that much cash though on another gadget, when I already have a laptop and a Kindle!!!

    Blessings,
    Shawnie

Andrea, that’s very impressive that you didn’t let a broken leg get you down. You managed to improvise on your workouts and still managed to get awesome abs and upper body. Good for you!

O’ I forgot to say that I also found a book by Randy Alcorn (for free) entitled “50 Days of Heaven: Reflections That Bring Eternity To Light”.

I also typed “Freebies” into the search box and many books came up for free as well…

Also, when I find an author I like very much I will type their name and “Freebie” or “Public Domain” and for some odd reason occasionally I find a new free book thatta’ way!

I am not a tight-wad but I like to find a freebie now and then! You all give so much and so freely, just thought I would throw some back your way!

    Blessings,
    Shawnie

The Kindle is a far better device for reading books than the ipad will ever be.  The reason for that is the Kindle doesn’t use a backlight but relies on an external light source like sunlight or a lamp, the same way a book does.  Backlit screens cause eye strain after reading for a short while.

So if you do a lot of reading stay clear of the ipad.

I never thought I could give up DTB’s (Dead Tree Books) but I find I don’t miss them at all.  Having my whole library of books on my Kindle 3 was the main reason I bought it and why it’s never far away from me.

This comment was written on the Kindle :)
