My New Make Up

Hi,

The last time I bought make up was when we were still in Prague a few months back. The whole process was relatively painless, because the girl in MAC was really helpful and she was able to pick the right foundation for me. She matched my skin tone better than I have ever been able to myself – it really makes a difference when you go to someone who knows what they are doing. I still have a lot of my MAC foundation left, but since then my skin has gotten lighter and the make up just doesn’t look good on me anymore. I think that when I first got to Prague my skin still had a bit of a summer glow left on it from the 5 months we spent in Sunny Malta. So far this season I have been avoiding the sun (and to be honest there have not been so many sunny days here yet) and my skin tone has shifted back to it’s winter hue. Unfortunately there is no MAC store where we live right now so I was left to chose from the line of my other favourite brand – Clinique. It wasn’t easy to decide which tone was the right one but I think I eventually made the right choice. It’s called Perfectly Real Makeup and it is shade 02.

I also had to get a new powder, because I wasn’t happy with my old one, L’oreal’s True Match (it didn’t match with my skin anymore). This time I went for powder from Clinique again, because I have had positive experiences with this powder in the past. My new powder is 08 Transparency Neutral.

The last product I bought was my new lip gloss. I still have a little bit left of my MAC Cremesheen Glass which I like very much, and I would have bought it again, but as I mentioned earlier we don’t have MAC here. My second favourite lip gloss is definitely  Juicy Tubes from Lancome. I picked Raspberry Ice and it smells and taste like the juicy fruit chewing gum.

If anyone has any makeup tips please feel free to share them in the comments :)

    Hi Zuzana,
Just thought I would share my two cents about make up. Clearly, you like to eat really good, clean, healthy foods. Getting good things in your body is important right down to the make up. If you think about it, your skin absorbs some of the make up that is on your skin, getting any of the chemical ingredients running through your body. For most people, it’s not a big deal, but to others it is and that is why mineral make up is so popular now.
Just some food for thought. Clinique seems to be a pretty clean brand and your skin looks flawless no matter what. Thanks for the videos and the recipe! You inspired me to go buy myself a bike :)

  • Jayne

I think Freddy is right about the make-up. I think that women are beautiful in their skin and I do not wear make-up. I have tried it or worn it before and it makes me feel like I look funny. Fake maybe. But I think that some women wear it and it makes them feel good about how they look so that is good for them. I do not think there is anything wrong with it. It is always nice to add a little color anyway.
So they do have this mineral makeup called sheer cover or bareminerals it seems to be good. If they have it where you live.

  • Ashley in Sweden

    Hey Z!

There is MAC in Kingston! I’m visiting my mom in Kingston and I saw a MAC counter in the Cataraqui Town Centre, either in The Bay or Sears (I can’t remember which one).

I was also in Lululemon today hoping to run into you but did not :( They have some stuff on sale though!

  • chely

Clinique is the best makeup. it’s made for sensitive skin by dermotologists, and they recommend that makeup if you choose to wear it.

The only tip that i could give you is that IF you are going to take PICTURES do NOT WEAR a foundation or powder that HAS SPF! you will look like a ghost and not match the rest of your skin, like your neck and chest etc in your pictures.

you seem to have a yellow undertone in your skin so i think a peachy pink blush would look good on you.

makeup is suppose to compliment your features so dont cake up on the stuff. also if you have good skin dont wear foundation stick to powder or just concelar.

  • Tiffany

I have a tip for buying makeup! Look up reviews for ANYTHING (foundations, mascaras, blushes, etc) on makeupalley.com – it has makeup reviews from millions of people around the world & they give you you input on what they like and don’t like, etc and when choosing a foundation, match it to your neck, because some peoples’ faces are lighter than their neck so when they have foundation on, it looks like a mask. So you wanna choose a color that matches your neck! Like me, I have to wear a foundation that’s 2 shades darker than my actual skin tone for it to blend seamlessly into my neck so in real life and in pictures it doesn’t look like I’m wearing a mask of foundation :D

If your skin tone changes throughout the year (like darker in the summer and lighter in the winter) you should buy two foundations, a summer one and a winter one, so that you can mix both of them when you need to get the perfect color match! I love makeup!

  • chely

also the Bare Minerals line has a lip gloss collection called Buxum Lips. it is so Awesome! i have the Dolly one and it looks so natural. they last so long and it’s not so sticky. they have so many colors to choose from.

oh and dont sleep in your makeup…makeup tends to age people.

  • V.

When you’re looking for foundation try to match the shade to your neck. Normally your neck and face are a little lighter than the rest of your body and that is ok, but if the difference is drastic then I would say to match it with your chest and blend the foundation from your face down your neck. Try to pick one that has the same undertone as your skin, i.e., pink, or yellow.Don’t buy one right away that you find. Try it on for the day first and look at yourself in natural light outside the store. Then decide if the color is right. To me on the videos I would have told you to try a shade 2 also, but I can’t tell you just by looking at videos bc the colors sometimes don’t match up like they do in real life so I can’t be sure of the darkness or lightness of your skin. Be careful when grls at mac match your foundation color. They tend to go a little darker and in their light at the store it looks good, but you leave and then you can tell its too dark, just like at sephora. Some grls can get it right, but from my experiences and from other stories that I’ve heard about and read online they tend to match a little dark, so I would say you got lucky that she matched you well. Just make sure to try the foundation out for a day to see the color in natural light and to also see if it changes color throughout the day. Also, do not try to decide about your makeup while looking in the mirror in a car. For some reason everything looks not so good in the car. Anyway, let me know if you need any other makeup help…I am a makeup artist so I would be glad to answer any questions you have.

I’ve used Bare Minerals for the past 6 or so years, and love it! Just go to http://bareescentuals.com/on/demandware.store/Sites-BareEscentuals-Site/default/Home-Show?brandId=BM&site=251 and check out what they have! I will never use any other makeup. I’ve used creams before, but they are very hard to match with your skin tone. Bare Minerals is great because they give you two shades, so you can mix them or just use one of them to get the best shade for your skin tone at the moment.

  • lilly

Hi zuzana, you´ve to try full potential lips from clinique it is fantastic…

  • Gina

    Hi Zuzana!

Here’s my two cents on make up.
You have really good skin, so chances are, all you really would need would be a good mineral foundation. My favourite kind at the moment is from MAC -nice to see you’re a fan of the brand already- but the Ôscillation Powerfoundation from Lancome is quite nice also. Both blend really well, but the upside the the Lancome one is that you don’t need to blend it, the vibrating brush does it for you.

If you were wondering about a blush, a great one that looks natural on everyone is NARS Orgasm. It’s a nice peachy-pink.

  • Linda

I find mineral makeup to look the most natural and appropriate, especially in the summer. I use Bare Escentuals but I hear other mineral makeup brands are great too. The foundation is very light and comfortable and I love their bronzers.
Recently, I’ve been convinced to try primers (for foundation/eyeshadow) and which ever one you choose, it makes your makeup stay put! It’s fantastic.
And always, thanks for your workouts. Your latest ones have been especially challenging and awesome.

  • Kristin

I live by bare essentials. I tried tons of other brands but once I tried this, I won’t go back to anything else. It is very gentle on my skin, easy to match your skin tone, and is very light feeling. Just thought I would throw that out there! :)

  • Rachel

Hi Zanana, I like the Bobbi Brown concept – show your true beauty with very little makeup. Foundation is also the toughest for me. I always ended up with the wrong shade :-( But the BB sales girls I met told me that since my complexion is not that bad, therefore I can go without foundation – just a little concealor here and there! What a life saver!! Nowadays I don’t normally wear foundation anymore ;-)

  • Cinthya

I love MAC and the sales representatives are quite good. I have a friend who worked there and went to school taught by MAC professionals. She swears by it, as do I.

Zu, you should order online if you know what you want. Their foundations go by numbers, so try going one number down. Their lip glass is great and you should try their newest mascara, it lasted through one of your workouts and new it was a keeper.:)

    Cinthya

  • Julia Dubai

    Hi Zuzana,
I can recommend the make-up from Bobbi Brown. My mom is working for this brand for years already and Im using all their products ever since. They have really good foundations, concealer (which is the best thing ever), powder etc. which looks very natural if u apply it and doesnt have this mask effect on your face. Maybe you can try one of their make-ups or even just the concealer…
Hope you have a good day and thank you for all these great work-outs…

  • DORIS

    oh boy, Zuzana!!
i LOVE clinque products. make sure you check out the sun screen SPF 30 face cream as well!!

  • Raina

    Hi zuzana,
very good choice for clinique make up and powder, i think they are very good products. I have been using though another make up, from max factor, lasting perfomance (and my code is 106 natural beige)I have been using this brand since christmas and i’m very satisfied with it! It covers softly your skin and makes it look so smooth and clear. i don’t think i will change it:)
And also if you want to buy a good mascara, the best for me is also from max factor and it’s called false lashes effect! it’s super, it really makes your lashes like fake! And i have used in the past christian dior, l’oreal, maybelline…. But this really works for me!
I don’t use powder, i think it’s not nessessary for me but i use blush. I prefer bronze blush so i look tanned and sunkissed:) I use loving pearls no2 from erre due, they give a nice summer glow!
    Thanks for sharing this!
    kisses from greece!

  • Karina

I agree with some of the other comments and that mineral make-up is that way to go : ) I’ve been using Bare Essentials for the last five years and I love how my skin looks after putting the foundation on: very natural and really doesn’t look like I have make-up on. I also wanted to let you know that I have talked to a make-up artist and MAC foundations are made to be used for mostly stage make-up as they are heavier foundation, and not for everyday use.. Other mineral make-ups that I’ve read good reviews for include Everyday Minerals and Alima Pure.

  • SC

I agree with Kristin about the chemicals that are in some skincare products. I am also a mineral powder wearer and I use Laura Mercier.

If you want to look up the toxicity of skincare or other products you can search it on this website first. It lists products from 0-10 of low to high hazard. It kind of makes it hard for you to buy anything because so many products out there have a medium to high hazard rating!

For reviews for skincare products before you buy them, I like going to

  • Sharon

    Hey Zuzana,
I recommend mineral makeup! I really don’t have any skin problems, I just like to wear it to even out my skin tone and add polish to my look. I used to use Bare Minerals, but the bismuth oxychloride they have in it made my skin itch and break out. But I’ve known people that use their make up and don’t have any problems, so I guess you have to try for yourself to see.

Since I quit using Bare Minerals, I found two great companies that have mineral foundation that don’t have bismuth oxychloride. One is http://www.afterglowcosmetics.com. They have a breakdown of what is in their foundation and why certain ingredients are bad for your skin. The only thing I don’t like is that they don’t have sample sizes of their foundations.

The second company I like is http://www.elegantminerals.com. They don’t have bismuth oxychloride in their make up either, and the great thing is that they have sample sizes of their foundations, blush, and eyeshadows.

Those are just my opinions. Again I’m not knocking Bare Minerals, but their makeup just doesn’t “jive” with my skin.

    Happy Shopping!

  • Sharon

I forgot to add why I liked mineral makeup. I like it because it comes in powder form, and it doesn’t feel like a mask or “cakey.” You use a little bit and buff it into your skin. And then if you need more coverage, you use a little more and blend it into your skin until you get the coverage you need.

I also forgot to add that I like the two companies above because they don’t test on animals.

  • lisa-marie

I never wear make – up, Id like to say its because i dont need it but its not ha ha its because I just can’t be bothered with all the faffing unless im going out :D ..

But I really really LOVE Dior make up.. yes, its expensive but its unlike anything I have ever had before and u really feel sexy with it on, esp the moisturisers etc… they are beautiful to wear.

They also do really nice tinted mositurisers which are fab if u have a ”good skin day” but just want a bit of colour :).

And of course .. elizebeth arden after 8 cream is my lifesaver !! Every girl should have this :)

    Loving the updates xxxx

  • jana

    Hi,

the best choice for me is Mary Kay. MK has everything – decorative cosmetic, dopes for every type of the skin, and much more products.

  • FluidFreedom

I’m 33 years old and have never worn makeup. So I have nothing to offer from that side of things, but I will say this….

I think Freddy is absolutely correct when he says that woman aresort of led to believe that they NEED makeup. It’s all in the advertising. I think woman look beautiful in their natural skin and should be proud of the way they look.

I wash my face every day with Cetaphil and use a good sunscreen. That is my daily routine. I have nothing against makeup and women wanting to use it, but I think natural is better. Just my two cents!

Now if you want to talk hair product I’m in!

  • t

As some others mentioned here, it doesn’t really work well if you try and match your foundation on the back of your hand, as it will be slightly darker than your face and will end up looking funny. Try matching to the inside of your wrist, which will be a shade paler than your face, which is what you want for your makeup. Also, I know it’s easy to get used to the look of yourself in foundation and to think you look strange without it, but I can see in your videos that you have totally smooth and flawless skin under there (not surprising with your healthy lifestyle). Perhaps you should challenge yourself to go without foundation for a week and see what you think at the end when you feel used to seeing your bare skin; you might not feel you need it any more. I always used to wear foundation when I was younger (now I just have a little concealer for any trouble spots), and it is hard at first even to leave the house without it if you are so used to wearing it, but I eventually realized that a bare skinned look really emphasizes natural beauty– which you have in spades! You are so lucky to have great skin, it’s almost a crime to cover it…

  • Verena

    hi Zuzana

I like my bronze powder and I like smokey eyes and pink lip gloss but not to much!! It looks fresh and sexy :)
perhaps you like it too. Try it!

When I go out than it can be very sexy and a much more from powder, I like that style. But only make up makes not sexy ,the outfit and hairs are very important

    Greets from germany

  • Leigh-Anne

I’m a big fan of MAC too. Did you know you can order online? For inexpensive makeup removers and cleansers I like Neutrogena products. Check out these YouTube videos by a makeup guru. Her channel is MakeupByTiffanyD.

  • http://www.myspace.com/rikakir Rika

I know a couple of professional make up artists. Most of them prefer MAC. And I must say, that I really like that too.

For mascaras, I bought Ana Sui’s “Super Mascara DX waterproof” and it looks really good! It looks natural and it is easy to use.

About foundations, I think it is more important to have a good skin cleansing soap and moisturizer (I think the best is skin tonic, because cream makes the skin greasy) than having a good foundation. That is to say, if you take care of your skin, you don’t need a foundation, and that will even make your skin look young for longer, because it breathes better, when not covered by a foundation. For that, I think Bioré is a really good brand. It is a Japanese Brand, but I just saw on their homepage, that they also sell in Canada. The range of products is different though, but Bioré is in general good.

When you work out and sweat a lot, this makes the skin look cleaner as well, and when you eat healthy that shows too.

All you really need is work outs, a good diet and a good soap!

  • Keri-Lynn

go organic, your organs and blood will thank you.

  • Chris

I love to use make up also ! But I only use “bio” make up ( I suppose you call it “organic” in English ? ), like “Santé”, “Lavera”, “Logona”, “Couleur Caramel” etc … ( Without conservative(curator), perfume, colouring agents of synthesis and by-products of the petrochemistry.
    Without PEG
    Without genetically modified vegetables.
Not tested on animals. Tested only on volunteers.
Natural pigments, vegetable wax and oil (100 %))
You should try one day, there are now many many different coulors of everything, powders, creams, pencil, for the face, eyes, lips, …

  • PF

    tip from my mom :)
be careful with mineral makeup. They suck up all the natural oils on your face. This may sound good at first, but that’s one of the ways that wrinkles start to pop up. dry skin tends to wrinkle faster so make sure you keep your skin nicely hydrated! and trust me, my mom does not have one wrinkle on her face and she’s 41. She takes good care of her skin, and part of it might be genetics? Im not sure, but she has good advice on how to stay looking young and im not going to doubt her! But yeah, make sure you put on a moisturizer before you put on your powder make up!
I love your choices of lipgloss! I don’t wear anything except for occasionally mascara and usually i just wear lipgloss. Im pretty minimalistic especially since im in sports anyway and it’s not convenient to wear makeup… but anyway, Lancome is such a good brand! My mom buys all her beauty stuff from them (like their toners and cremes).

By the way, you’re workouts are amazing– thanks so much for everything you’ve done to the site! I lost 10 pounds officially :D that’s never happened and i’ve been trying for TWO years. I’m so impressed! You’re amazing!

  • Lindsay

I also use Bare Minerals makeup. It is natural and good for your skin, but it is very light coverage. If I want more coverage I have to put liquid foundation on and then the Bare Minerals. But it’s a great light makeup for the summer.

  • Alicia

When it comes to make-up I really feel like less is more…..use it to highlight your facial features not cover them up. I don’t use any foundation or blush, just eyeshadow, mascara and chapstick :) For eyeshadow tho, dont use to much or you WILL look rediculous. just a touch of color on your lid, and it really makes your eyes pop without looking clownish. All of us girls already have a natural beauty so I think we all need to realize that even if we don’t have time to put make-up on in the morning we still look FABULOUS :D

  • Berry

Hi I tried , Clinique, Lancome,Sephora,MAC and Bobbi Brown and I really like first Bobbi Brown and second Sephora with this foundation your face looks very natural.
MAC looks like you wear a mask,
    Lancome is too heavy
Clinique light but wash just with the sweat

    All the Best…

  • alisia

I moved last December and I’m really bummed that I’m not longer close to a Sephora! We have a mac counter but it’s in the Macy’s store and I do not feel they are as informative as the MAC store so I just buy my eyeshadow there and I don’t really ask any questions (I asked for an eye cream before and they gave me something totally different and I had a return it). Anyway, I share your love for MAC but I do miss Sephora because you could try anything on and get lots of samples. I try not to wear foundation much but when I do, I like Dior forever foundation. I have oily skin and it does a pretty good job of staying put when I want it to. The juicy tubes look yummy! ;)

  • alisia

I have to agree on primers! Sephora gave me a sample of Too Faced Shadow Insurance and I loved it so much I bought it right away. It keeps my eyeshadow on all day throughout your most intense workouts and even after a nap. Love it.

  • Cathy

    Hi there!!

I just wanted to add how fabulous sheer cover mineral make-up is. It looks soo natural and glowy. You can try a sample pack for $20 and they even throw in these wonderful brushes. My favorite part is not tasing and eating the chemicals in my mouth with the lipsticks.
Plus this is the only make-up that makes me look younger!!
    hee-hee:D

  • Erin

    Hi Zuzana!
I use Clinique as well (super-balanced make-up) and I feel comfortable wearing this makeup all day. Ideally, we would keep things natural and let our skin breathe but I think, depending on where you live, the air pollution is so bad that having a light layer of make-up actually gives you protection and is the “lesser of two evils”.

I know you are a natural beauty:) but I also think you do an amazing job on your make-up (especially eye makeup). Would you ever consider posting a make-up tutorial?

    Keep up the great work!

  • Abby

    Hi Zuzana,

I thought this may interest you. It is one of my favorite sites. It is http://www.cosmeticsdatabase.com “SkinDeep”
Skin Deep is a safety guide to cosmetics and personal care products brought to you by researchers at the Environmental Working Group (www.ewg.org). You can type in your cosmetic product and it will give you a rating of 0 – 10. 0 being the best and 10 the worst, highly toxic.
I try to only use products that are rated 0-2 occasionally 3′s
They not only cover cosmetics but haircare products, sunscreens, eyes and nails…

I also love Orglamix, http://www.etsy.com/shop/orglamix , based in th US, but ships internationally. Fantastic make-up with none of the nasties, pure and perfect. They especially have great eye shadows. I am in no way affiliated with these sites, just love them :)

  • Laura S

You could always order things from the MAC website, they always have codes and stuff (if you sign up for emails), so shipping is pretty much always free, and it only takes a few weeks to get there. So if you’re desperate for some mac, there’s always the internet!

  • Des

Bare essentials also doesn’t run when I sweat, doesn’t clog pores and is okay to sleep in. (I don’t ever go to bed with makeup on, let skin breathe), but that’s what the package says and I don’t break out when I wear it. You have great seamless skin so BE would look great on you too. It’s nice if you need to run, just brush it on and you have great coverage 8)
I used the mascara, but it’s too clumpy…haven’t found a mascara I really love yet. Burts Bees has great lip gloss that’s delicious and feels great on mouth, and is made with natural ingredients. Also, Bare Essentials has natural SPF built in.

  • http://www.alaynamarie.com Alayna

I agree with what V. said. Definitely look at everything in natural light. I’m a makeup artist too who used to work for MAC and now I do makeup for photo shoots and events.
Make Up For Ever is a great brand too if you’re looking for MAC substitutes.
inmykit.com is a great site for makeup suggestions. They’re just one guy’s opinion of course, but I like that he offers cheap product alternatives as well as more pricey brands. I have all price levels in my makeup kit, and never stick to one brand.

  • Danielle

Good pick with the Juicy Tubes lip gloss from Lancome. I only wear lip gloss, never lipstick as I find lip gloss makes me look a lot fresher. I have also found some nice lip glosses from Smashbox and NARS as well that add a bit more color.
I also like the NARS Orgasm but not in the blush, in the illuminator. I apply it where the sun would naturally hit and it gives me an instant healthy glow. Sometimes I wear just that after I moisturize or will apply a cheek tint over top for some added color. I like the brand Benefit in Posietint, its a lighter pink and you can layer it to get the depth of color you want. It is also a cheek stain so it stays put!

I am also a fan of Tarte cosmetics which are natural and organic and are formulated with antioxidants, botanicals, essential oils, fruit extracts etc. I find they do not irritate my skin at all. They make a great eye primer that you apply before your eye shadow and it will never crease or rub off all day:) You can buy all of these brands at Sephora either in store or online.

  • Renee

Maybe this is a no-brainer, but I highly recommend going to a larger dept. store where you can have one of the sales reps at any one of the makeup counters (like Clinique), apply some of their products to your skin. Most are great about not pressuring you to buy anything and are more than happy to help you find things well-suited to your coloring and skin-type. Plus, if you like it in the store, you can wear it for the day and get a pretty good idea if you really want to buy it later.
I do agree with most of the previous posts that mentioned Bare Minerals. If you haven’t tried them, you definitely should! They give you a smooth, overall natural looking glow without the heavy matte finish of liquid or cream foundations. God, now I sound like a sales rep and I’m not. Honest!
    ps Love the workouts

  • Moooingcow

Lucky Zu, you can wear makeup. I perspire so much that when I blink I start to perspire. I try to be presentable when not flooding in a pool of sweat, but it runs off! I hope that Clinic gives you many free products for advertising for them!

    Cheers!!!
    Moooooo

PS, like the cycles!!! Try some long hills (riding up I mean) that go at least a kilometer with at least 3% grade! Killer!!! Be careful not to find smashed turtles either. Very heart breaking and you can see them from the cycle really good on hills because you aren’t speeding unless going down. Ugh….

  • Rihab

Hi!!!! So, I started biking yesterday, and it was like a passion between biking and me! I’m from Montreal, so I biked the whole Mount Royal til the top of the mount, and the view you get once on top… it’s the best treat you can have! I did it this morning too, right before one of your workouts. I think it’s a good way to include cardio for people who hates running for nothing like me! So when I come back home, I’m all pumped up for your workout. So if you guys come tom Montreal anytime, you should totally go biking the Mount Royal, it’s beautiful, full of animals (hint hint Zuzanna), and breathtaking on top, plus theres a nice lake there too!
Also, I don’t know if you would be eligible, but as an artist (singer), I get 30-40% OFF from all M.A.C. products. You should ask at one of the M.A.C. stores in your city. If you can prove that make-up is a part of your job or something like that, you get to have that discount. It’s a good discount to all people who works either as a make-up artist, dancers, singers, youtube things… You don’t lose anything to ask!

    Have a great one,

    R

Come down to Toronto for the day, we’ll go makeup shopping haha! We have LOTS of MAC locations here. I don’t like their skin stuff much but their lip glass is amazing. Thanks for sharing the colour name. I liked how it looked on you in the video when you went clubbing and I’ve wanted to get one every since! :)

Like someone already mentioned, http://www.makeupalley.com is great to read reviews and see swatches of many different cosmetic products. I always use it!
I think you should do a makeup tutorial like what some prominent makeup gurus are doing on Youtube ) It would be fun (and educational hehe) to see how you get your flawless face.

When it comes to makeup, I find it is always best to “try before you buy.” I usually don’t wear makeup (husband even prefers me without it), but when I do, I use Aveda makeup, which is very hypoallergenic and natural looking. Sometimes I will just use a little bronzing gel on my face to get a touch of color. I know a lot of ladies love the mineral makeup, but I have dry skin, and I tried it out once and it looked terrible! It really accentuated the fine lines on my face…husband made fun of me too!

  • Carrie

Bare Minerals, Bare Minerals, Bare Minerals! Every single person who I know that has it will NEVER GO to another foundation.

I have wondered a few things as it starts to get hot. I live in the north eastern part of the US. I have a similar body type to you. I am very athletic, but I can’t get those abs yet, but working on it. I am looking for a few things and thought it would be a good post. I am going on vacation. I am going to be doing a lot of water skiing and need a sports type swimsuit. I would also like to have a suit for the beach. I don’t wear anything crazy like thongs, etc., but I do like to wear string bikinis. Only for when I am just relaxing on the beach. The only problem, even though I get separates, the top never seems to fit right to show of what I want. I also like to play beach volleyball so the sporty suit would fit in well there. I am 5’7″ my measurements are 34D-24-34. I think you look similar. Like I said I wish I could get those abs. Do you have any suggestions?

  • Susan

Hello Suzana, heres my tip. If you want avoid confusion at the cosmetic counters or drugstores and save money go to cosmeticscop.com. A very essential website to put in your favorites. She critiques skin care too!

  • RN

I too agree with Kristen and SC. Makeup can be extremely toxic. It doesn’t make sense to put natural foods into your body but then cover it up with fake stuff which can just as easily be absorbed by your skin. Just like natural foods are REAL foods, natural beauty is REAL beauty. The majority of my friends don’t wear makeup but those that do, seem to look terrible without it. I think however, if those people stopped wearing make up for a while, their skin and face would return its natural beauty.

  • Cricket

    Hi Zuzana,
thanks for posting a make up haul. I had been watching for it…

You are a natural beauty. I wasn’t surprised that Clinique was a choice of yours. It’s a high quality make-up.

Since you’re currently making changes to your nutrition/diet, you may also want to consider what you put on your skin/face. Chemicals are absorbed. There are some especially disgusting ingredients in lipglosses and lipsticks.

I decided to take a closer look at my products a couple of years ago since I was also starting to make wiser dietary choices. I really shopped around and read and researched a lot of labels.

*I found that the same rule for food is true for skincare and make-up products.

It is possible to stick to real ingredients that you can pronounce and are healthy for your skin.

One of my favourite natural ingredient products is Burt’s Bees skincare. Ingredients are fantastic! They do also make a lipshine which is a perfect hint of colour for summer.

For make-up, I use “Zuzu Luxe”. It feels like velvet on your skin, clean and fresh and lasts all day with out clogging pores.
Here is some info off of the “cosmeticskitchen” website:

“Zuzu Luxe Cosmetics – Vegan Cosmetics”

“Inspired by European spa tradition, the Zuzu Luxe Vegan Cosmetics line is made from all natural ingredients such as, spring water, herbs, vitamins and essential oils that are heathy for your skin. Zuzu Luxe’s Color Cosmetics line includes, vegan mascara, eyeshadow, pencil & liquid eyeliners, blush, liquid foundation, lip gloss and more.

Each product is vegan, hypoallergenic, fragrance-free and animal cruelty-free. The eye makeups are ophthalmologist tested for sensitive eyes and contact lens wearers.”

I love make up and I think a complementary touch up on a woman’s face with the right shades and tones can just make that beauty shine.
Women that feel or look “made up” in make up are probably not applying it correctly. It only needs to be a subtle highlight to their attributes (whether it’s mostly eyes, lips, or cheekbones, everything doesn’t need to be the focus at once) and then it just looks so natural and pretty.

Enjoy you Clinique, but maybe look into some alternatives in the meantime and see what you think.
A lot of people are recommending mineral make-up, but that’s worth researching as well…
I agree with the comment that said it sucks the moisture from your face. Not my favourite. Love the Zuzu Luxe!

  • Tina L

Hello, Zuzana! I don’t wear make-up much anymore. Honestly, I have become pretty lazy with it. Still, I do remember a thing or two. A translucent powder is really the best since it is one less shade to think about. If you do not have a mac store nearby, you do have the option of offering your e-mail address. I have noticed that especially this year with the poor economy in the United States, they offer free shipping. Honestly, though, I am not sure if that includes Canada. I used to have a smokey look, or I often toned down bright colors with some gray or very little black. With enough blending thanks to technique and great brushes, nobody ever suspected I wore black or gray around my eyes. Also, I used Bare Minerals for my foundation. It goes on great, and my skin felt incredibly soft. I hope some of that helps! Hm, just talking about it sort of makes me want to start wearing it again.

  • Frederick

Passing that on to Zuz – thanks for the tip :)

  • carrie

I think the ghost face is more to do with wearing too much makeup. I’ve been told this by makeup artists. I’ve worn makeup in the past that did not have SPF in it, and I’ve still come out with the ghost face in pics. It’s because I was piling it on (due to acne & scars). My skin now looks better and I wear less, too. Clinique, in fact. And I look more natural in pics. Have never looked for SPF in makeup. Lots of really good tips here.

  • http://fattyfintoskinnyminnie.blogspot.com/ Adalita

I use mirenesse makeup http://www.mirenesse.com/ it is great. I have received comments about my makeup since changing from sheer cover. They are petrolatum free, fragrance free, paraben free, mineral oil, soap free, sulphate free, not tested on animals, suitable for all skin types including sensitive skin. It is pretty cheap and there are daily deals on specific items. Check them out a really great Australian company,it has won many make up awards.

Hi Zuzana, I love your workouts but I must tell you as I am a health care consultant I work for a big chain of health food sotres in Vancouver B.C to be careful of the makeup brands to use some are full of chemicals and they can due lots of damage long term to are skin. The cleanest brands out theire is Zuzu, Gabriel, ZUii, or Jane Iradale. Check those out for fun.
    Chantal

  • Audra

    Zuzana,

Bare Minerals, hands down. You can’t go wrong. It’s light-weight and has SPF 15 already built in. It blends in perfectly. None of the caked or oily feeling that cream foundations give you and the bonus is it is water-resistant. I workout with it on and it lasts through even your workouts.

Thanks for sharing Zuzana. I recently switched to Clinique’s foundation (a different name to yours) and am VERY impressed. I’d love to switch to a skin-friendly brand but here in Spain it’s really hard to find stockists.

There’s a site called http://www.cosmeticsdatabase.com – and it rates the different brands according to their harmfulness to skin – just in case anyone’s interested :o)

  • Stephanie

    Hey Zuzana,

Okay….the most wonderful makeup and skin care collection is KORRES. It’s naturally derived with top quality active ingredients. I was told that Clinique is seriously awful for your skin…I would stop using it. One day when I was in a makeup store the lady told me that they spilt some nail polish type product on the floor and another lady said…”Hold on a sec I know exactly what will get that out”….and she went and grabbed a bottle from the Clinique section. Can you imagine that on your skin??

I Love Korres….it smells good, feels good on your skin and it’s environmentally friendly. You can get it at Sephora stores if you get a chance to check it out. I don’t use anything else!

    Thanks!

  • Amy Strong

Mary Kay has a great line of skin care and make-up options. I have very fair skin and they have what I need. Clinique is also great (I mix and match a little), but the nice thing about Mary Kay is a consultant will come to you and let you try their products in your home and they will either have your purchases for you that day, or bring them to you directly. It may seem a little pricey at first, but it lasts a really long time, so it evens out with the Clinique line cost wise. The most important thing you can do to prevent your face from “aging” is to keep your face out of direct sun and use an SPF moisturizer every day. To keep you looking fabulous of course! :)

  • Svetlana007

I swear by Mary Kay mineral powder foundation. No I don’t sell it but I know a few people who signed up to be “sales representatives” just so they would get all of the products at a discount for themselves and their relatives/closest frinds (including me!) :) ID BareMinerals is amazing too. Also, Smashbox has the best primer to go under your powder or foundation. Skin just looks and feels flawless and very smooth. You can find it on Sephora website. Also, if you live in Canada, you should check out http://www.TheShoppingChannel.com daily, every day they have something new on for special price, and a lot of times they have very good skin care on special.

Hi Zuzana! I am extremely knowledgeable about skin products and very passionate about educating people about the chemicals in the products and foods we eat today. Please check out this incredible website which tells you what is in ALL PRODUCTS and how they are linked to cancers etc…

A great book to read is called “Not just a pretty face” by Stacey Malcam

I use toxic free facial products!!

Since you are such a role model, perhaps you can pass along information to help protect everyone including children from making poor choices simply because of advertising.

    Sincerely

hi zuzana i love mac i have been using it for about a year love it,i love the way it match my skin.you shoul buy in the internet or something, because i have try clinique and offer mac.i use everything from mac

  • Stephanie

Hi Zuzana! I’m an Esthetician and work at a Spa, I have been using Jane Iredale Mineral makeup for over 3 years now, it is the best makeup I have ever tried, and I have tried everything! You should look into it, it won’t clog your pores, it lets your skin breathe, and I’ve been doing your workouts and sweat like crazy and my makeup still stays and doesn’t clog my pores even though I’m sweating so much. The amazing benefits of this makeup is that it contains up to SPF 30 in all their makeup,is actually good for your skin, there is no allergy risk, contains UVB and UVA protection, anti-inflammatory (calms and soothes irritated skin), water resistant, complete coverage for skin conditions like acne, and rosacea, contains no talc or parabens, is composed of inert minerals that cannot support bacteria. it is also the first and only makeup to be approved by the cancer society! so just a little info on the makeup, i know you will love it! take care and keep up with the workouts, my body is better than ever cuz of you, thank you so much Zuzana, you are such an inspriation!

  • HealthyLife

Hi Zuzanna I love your site and am addicted to it and your channel. It is such a huge inspiration for me. Okay now lets talk makeup, I used to use a foundation but for the past couple of years I switched to mineral makeup, I find it lighter on my skin and I don’t need to use a powder because it is one, so it is just one light easy application. I am from australia and there is a brand here that I buy from an ebay store called, “Pure Cosmetics”. I buy the concealer and just use a little bit all over and it covers so well, I love it so much and also I alternate like you with shades, in summer I use a shade called graceful dune, and in winter I use a shade that is a bit lighter called creamy cloud. I love the stuff because its natural and lasts all day, its so good for your skin that you can even sleep in it which I sometimes do as my day gets hectic at times. Plus in summer I buff it in really well and it becomes waterproof and I go swimming and it stays on. Everyone has to just experiment with what is out there, that is how you can find out what best suits you. I just prefer to have one simple application, saves me time. I used to use a foundation by Maxfactor and a powder by rimmel. The colors didn’t match all that great either so it is nice to find a place that sells many shades because then you are sure to find one that suits you. Keep up the good work Zuzanna, I hope you do more girly videos too, I absolutely love your hauls, cooking, trips with freddy etc. videos. I hope to see more, am addicted and adore you!!!!!!!

    Much Love
    Lena

  • TheVal

Hi Zuzana! I stopped by MAC today to check out the Cremesheen Glass. I thought the name of the colour was Cremesheen but it turned out to be the whole line of Glass. Which colour name is the one you got? I think it’s really nice.

P.S. I bought MAC’s cream blush in the LadyBlush colour…it is such a good product. It looks like a natural flush on the skin, not like cakey stuff. :)

  • Chrisitne

I had a makeover done by Carmindy from What Not to Wear, the US version. What I walked away from that was knowing some great products

Mankeup Forever waterproof foundation, wonderful and light
    Nars Orgasm blush
    Bobby Brown shimmer brick

All the clothes that show put me in had come and gone..her makeup tips were amazing.

I live by Le Mar moistur

  • Kira

    Hey Zusana.

I am a big fan of Your exercises and site!

I agree with Audra… For getting a perfect, almost air-brushed complexion, I highly recommend powder mineral foundations, I use the one from “Young-blood”, but I think are other good products on the market… For example from Smash-box, Bare minerals, Jane Irendale and even Lóreal has one that is ok. You have to use a speciel brush when applying it.

Thank You for all the inspiration!

  • Kira

Sorry… mispelled Your name: ZUZANA! :-)

  • ashley

I’m surprised you like Clinique. Its kind of overrated in my opinion lol. Its really oily and clogs pores. I talked to my dermatologist and he actually recommended Almay(even more surprising) but different brands work for different people. I love your workouts but i really love you talking about clothes and makeup too. I think all that stuff is fun and I love seeing all your new clothes. Love you girl!

  • Ana

Clinique, Lancôme, Dior and Esthée Lauder are the safest in Terms of Make up and Skin Products.
    Mainly Lancôme and Dior.

  • http://the-dame.com The Dame

I used to love MAC until I tried Clinique and now I swear by it, especially their Even Better foundation since my skin has so many marks and scars from Acne. All my products are Clinique now, its cheaper than MAC too.

  • Mickela

I rarely wear foundation, I like to keep my pores free of heavy powders and creams, I use a little eye shadow and mascara and I wear natural looking lipsticks and lip gloss.

I think less is better. especially if you are active.

  • Georgeanne

Zuzana, there is hope you can go online to the MAC website. Also if you need help with colors and shades and reviews of products, there is of course youtube with it’s huge makeup community, makeupalley.com with message boards and reviews. Lots of girls do makeup swatches and reviews on their blogs as well known reliable sources are karlasugar.net,specktra.net, temptalia.com. Many times when I am unable to get to my makeup counters I just go to a lot of these sites to see the photos and swatches, these girls are amazing since they put the swatches of all these colors on their arms and show it indoors and then outdoors and give very critical reviews. Hope this helps. Glad the new site is up and working well for you both. Best of Luck

  • Amanda (Maryland)

I’ve tossed all liquid products and went to Bare Minerals/Essentuals. Awesome stuff and really easy & fast to apply! Great stuff you got.

  • Christine

    Hi Zuzana,

I rarely wear makeup myself. For me, I feel that skincare is the most important factor in beauty. Before painting a beautiful picture, an artist must have a clean canvas. My staple skincare products are MD Skincare Alpha Beta Daily Peels, Caudalie Vinoperfect, Caudalie Grape Water, and Anthelios Moisturizing Sunscreen with Mexoryl.

The makeup that I choose is Laura Mercier Cake Eyeliner, Too Faced First Base (I use this as highlighting eyeshadow), Figerwig Paint-On False Lashes Mascara, Becca Beach Tint in Peach or Watermelon for cheeks and lips, and Jo Malone Vitamin E Lip Conditioner (very natural and conditioning gloss).

I’ve been using all these for at least 6 years and have stuck with them because they really work. Most are expensive, but I get to write these off as business expenses… =) I’ve tried sooo many things in years past, but none gives me the natural and healthy luminous glow as these products.

  • Nadine

    Hi Zuzana,

In my opinion you don’t need foundation and powder.
Just buy a blush and that should be enough to give you a rosy glow.

  • Jen

Jane Iredale is the best! I love it and have been using it for 3 years. I also started using La Bella Donna, it has the same concept as J.I. but your skin looks dewier and you need less. J.I. has a great selection of lip gloss and blush too.

  • Lisa

I buy MAC off their website (www.maccosmetics.com) because I don’t have a MAC counter anywhere near me…in fact, I buy most of my cosmetics, etc from the internet. We just relocated into a remote desert location in California-the closest shopping for anything is 80+ miles away.

  • http://... lucie

  • Lucy

I would agree with Audra for SURE! You really cannot go wrong. It is the best make up I have ever used, and it is easy to apply (much better than liquid foundations). It is mineral based so it is healthy to put on your skin. Also the molecules in the minerals are large, thus keeping the makeup on the surface of your skin and not down in your pores (told to me by my medical master esthetician).

  • Maria

First of all, I love the website. I had seen your post about the make-up and everything and just wanted to share my thoughts. I’m a Mary Kay consultant and we not only focus on matching skin tones to make you look your best, but what is more important is skin care! It is never to early to start reversing the signs of aging. I’m not going to go on and on about how important it is. I just wanted to give you something to think about!

  • kaila

Larenim Mineral Makeup. All mineral makeup is not created equal. If you get a chance, hit up Larenim.com, It’s the real-deal, no by products of coal mining that are still called “minerals”. Check out what’s in it, and what’s NOT in it. Also, some minerals like titanium dioxide are a natural spf.

  • kaila

p.s. larenim having 100% pure minerals = nothing to harbor bacteria. Some ‘mineral makeups’ have starches that feed bacteria! = breakouts, permanently enlarged pores, etc. (you can see I’m such a fan!) Usually can be found in healthfood stores, an essential place!

  • Stephanie

    Hey Zuzana,

I realize you’re on your trip and might not really care too much at this point about my next makeup idea but I thought I would share.

I don’t know if you are familiar with the makeup line, “Nars” but it has a really famous blush that I think would look amazing on your skin. Infact it’s universal and is supposed to look good on everyone and it’s basically a makeup staple for sure. It’s called “Orgasm” by Nars. lol, funny name but it’s supposed to give you that flush on your cheeks after well…you know. lol

I got it the other week and Love it! I totally recommend it and it also lasts super long and has a nice sleek container.

Anyways, hope you’re having fun on your trip, can’t wait for the next update and whether or not you guys found a nice beach!

    Bye!

  • hipretty

    Hi Zuzanna,

I use a lot of Clinique too and it is so gentle I never have a reaction or anything from it.

If you love and miss your MAC Cremesheen Glass…as you know Juicy Tubes from Lancome…but also, Revlon Lipgloss super luscious lipglosses have some comparable colors and they are a nice texture too.

  • Catherine

I understand, especially, Dior to be honest & safe…

  • http://www.amarya.co.uk Sonia White

Hi there…along with a few other posters i have to agree that for someone who has clearly dedicated herself to a healthy way of living, i’m a little surprised that you use skincare products that are full of harmful chemicals.

Here in the UK i was fed up with buying products that were labelled ‘Organic’ or ‘Natural’ but still contained parabens and other nasties.

The only way to guarentee that the product reaches true organic or natural standards is buy ones that have been tested by a Standards Agency for that particular country.

That’s why i’ve set up http://www.amarya.co.uk the UK’s first retailer of Certified Organic Skincare & Makeup. We ONLY sell products that have been fully tested and have a certificate to prove it. I feel this gives the customer total peace of mind that whatever they buy is TRULY organic / natural.

If you care about what goes onto your skin please check out the website or feel free to ring one of our Beauty Consultants who can guide you through an organic skincare program or check out our YouTube Channel at AmaryaLtd

    Hope this helps

    Sonia

i love juicy tubes! i have a bunch at home and recently started using the mac lip glosses that you have. in the u.s. we have drug stores that carry a lot of brands, so maybe you could check in the drugstore because that is where i get my mac :)

I have to agree from some of these girls Mary Kay products are amazing i started selling mary kay makeup before i had even tried it and i have to say i was so happy on how well they work the most liked product that i am always selling is Mary kays mineral foundation it really does give a natural look. I love the mascara!!!! Lashes are LONG and not clumpy at all. I used to use Clinique but, this is better!

Also, sounds gross but, I started using organic “Snail Slime” on my face at night and I swear I feel a difference. I don’t know if they sell it here in the us but, a friend gave it to me and it was sent from Ecuador. My skin has never been softer and the fine lines are almost unnoticeable anymore.

My all time favorite foundation is Makeup Forever HD. It has a very sheer application yet the coverage is almost full. I work as a professional makeup artist and I love how it looks in photos and on film. To learn how to do your makeup like a pro I would recommend looking at Pixiwoo’s channel on youtube. They are two of the best I’ve even seen.

  • Kim

I use Clinique too. It’s a fabulous brand. Thanks for the posting.

  • Brittany

    Hey Zuzana!
I found a makeup company that I love and is super easy to apply. I have naturally clear skin with the occasional blemish (I think you might be the same way!) and this makeup is really great! It’s “Everyday Minerals”. It takes literally 2 minutes to do my makeup with a kabuki brush and I use the same face powder as a concealer (I just apply it with a more dense brush). It’s all natural and supposedly helps clear up blemishes too! I even have dry skin and it doesn’t make my skin look flakey :)

Shiseido dual balancing foundation is A-mazing. You don’t even need that much of the product for full coverage. The trick is to pat it on areas you most need the coverage( nose, temples, under eye area)and finish off with Revlon Colorstay mineral finishing powder in Sunkiss 030 and mascara. I used this makeip routine all summer and have got many compliments because it just looks so flawless and makes it seem like you really aren’t wearing any makeup:)

  • suzana

people whatever you put on your skin which is not eatable, is totally unhealthy. instead of this bad product, put the coconout oil on your body, from head to toe…and you feel real difference.

  • Cassie

The ghost face, in pictures, might be due to SPF in your makeup. It kinda makes your face look lighter in pictures, I think esp at night during events. So, if you want to avoid that pale cast in pictures at night, I would suggest using a foundation that doesn’t have SPF.

  • Yulee

Thx. I’ve learned something..do you also like those natural product such as those old time remedies as your secret to look younger, I just wondered?

Hi there! Your videos and blog have inspired me to work out.. I’ll let you know how it turns out! Much love!

And oh, you might want to try Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer so your skin breathes when you’re working out. =) They have very nice foundation too.
