Traveling from Hot Toronto to Sexy Rome

Hi Guys,

We are planning on taking you with us for our trip to Italy, except that you can get the condensed 5 minute light speed version of the trip from Toronto to Rome that took us about 16 hours. This trip between Canada and Italy was actually the most stress free and fun trip we have taken in forever because be decided to travel light and take just one backpack each. We also left the dogs at home this time which meant that checking in at the airport was a breeze. We will be updating with videos from our trip to Rome and Italy for the next 2 weeks, plus sharing the workouts that we are doing along the way.

There was one funny moment as soon as we arrived in Rome. Freddy bumped into the american actor Willem Dafoe while I was in the bathroom. Freddy asked him if he could have a picture with him and Willem was very friendly and said ”sure kid” but then Freddy realized to his horror that I had the photo camera with me in the toilette. Freddy didn’t get his picture, but it was still a cool moment for him. You should have seen his face when I came out of the bathroom :)

Best,

Zuzana

The reason why they make u bag ur liquids is because there has been a bomb threat before on the plane and the people made the bomb using a water bottle and the liquids combined can create a bomb!
So yea, they try to limit the amount of liquid in each bottle so no one can make a bomb. It has been an issue for mom’s with babies who need milk to feed them. A lot of time water bottles have to be thrown out…

  • Valerie

Willem Dafoe? he’s a great actor! sucks that Zuzana had the camera :(

  • Simona

I’m from Rome, if you want a free guide for the city just write me :)

  • Jamie

Very cool! All of it. :)

  • Sunshine

    I love you guys!!! wow!!!!

  • d.

i think the airlines are very cautious about carrying liquids onto the planes ever since the terrorist attack on 9/11/01 in New York City. I don’t remember much of that day cuz i was probably six years old, but ever since then carrying liquids is a big deal on the planes. but i don’t know what liquid stuff has to do with it, unless it’s a case where they’re worried about the stuff being explosive..

but i’m glad that you guys arrived to Rome safely. enjoy your trip!!

    d. <3

  • kari

That is so cool! It must be nice to wake up one day and say “Hey, let’s go to Italy!”.
I hope you guys have lots of fun and post lots of videos and pics! And I’m so glad the site is back up, I was having major withdrawal. Even though I still worked out, I enjoy the site so much, it helps motivate me :)
    Enjoy your vacay!

  • Aeran

    Thank you for sharing this.
    I love Italy!!
    You both are so sweet!!
    Enjoy!!

    Love, Aeran

  • kari

Oh! And also, they started doing the things with bottles at the airport after 9/11 as a sort of regulation type thing. They have become VERY strict about what you bring on airplanes. Apparently you can make a bomb out of anything I guess.

  • Nicole

    Hi Zuzana and Freddy,
The clear plastic baggie and small sized bottle/liquids “thing” started after some terrorist had explosive liquids on a plane that was flying into the US. I don’t know if they caught him while he was on the plane or if it was before he got on, but I think it was a water bottle or something.
I hate this new rule with the liquids, but I know that women with babies and infant formula have it worse and then there are those with medications in liquid form…like diabetes and MS that have a difficult time with this new rule as well.
Enjoy Rome, I loved it there…..though the pizza in Florence is way better than in Rome.
Can’t wait to see the burpee in the Colosseum and Trevi Fountain.

  • Marissa

This is so cool! Italy looks so amazing so far…can’t wait to see the upcoming videos! :D

Oh and I think the bottle restrictions at the airport all started after the 9/11 terrorists attack. It’s all like security precautions.

  • Jess

Liquids were banned on flights back in August when British authorities uncovered a terrorist plan to blow up US bound planes with liquid explosives stored in carry on luggage. Really, it’s a pretty stupid ban but people get so worked up that governments and airlines often have no choice but to ban possible weapons – even knitting needles and nail scissors, technically! The current restrictions are just to ensure that liquids get examined. They’re considered relaxing the ban though, so maybe next time you travel you won’t have to bother :)

  • Meg

    Wasn’t it because of 9/11?
I know security got more tight after that. They even removed some public trashcans here in Japan because they got paranoid that someone might place a bomb in there.
I think for the water bottle….you can put some explosive material that looks like water in a bottle so they want to prevent that. You can bring an empty bottle on the plane though and ask the flight attendant to fill it up for you with water so you don’t have to constantly call for one to fill up your tiny cup.
Its funny because you can buy duty free goods at the airport and if you happen to buy a bottle of hair spray or a liter of shampoo they allow it on the plane….but not for your personal belongings.

You guys look so happy and thank you so much for videoing your trip! I couldn’t help but smile while watching this video. Looks amazing there!

    Mmmmm…so romantic :)

  • Tiffany Stephens

what a blast! Was it a very painful stare you gave Zuzana on the way out of the toilet? kee!!! The only thing I think of on the back of the bus is Phewwwwwwy!! Have a great trip and thank you so much for sharing…so, so, so much!!!

  • Sara

Terrorists with liquid bombs. In America when the terrorists flew the plane into the Twin Towers is when security got super bad. I don’t know about the bags though.

    guys you are just awesome

  • Mandy

Wow what a beautiful place. I wish I could be there with you. (awestruck)

  • http://AirlineRestrictionsandwhywecanonlytakesmallbottle. Carla

Hi Zuzana! Airlines (since the 911 event) restrict any items that can cause harm to the aircraft, limit terrorist activities, and increase the safety to airline passengers. It’s a pain in the butt, but important! Plus, we probably have to put items in ziplock bags because as they get pressurized shortly after the plane takeoff. So, bottles, toothpaste, etc. expand and can leak, which can possibly cause electrical damage to the aircraft. :) Here’s more info –> Completely banned items are any items that could put someone in immediate danger. They should not be brought to the airport at all. These items include explosives, flammable items such as paints, propellants, gas, matches or the like, clothing and small toiletries are excepted from this list. Pressurized containers, oxidizers such as bleach, poisons, infectious materials, and corrosives such as drain cleaners, organics such as resin or peroxides, large magnets or any dangerous material including spray cans or chemicals are not allowed in the airport, in checked baggage or on the plane in any form.

Thanks for sharing your strip to Italy with us. I really enjoyed it. Esp, the eggplant w/ tomatoes and mozzarella looks really good Zuzana. ;) Hope you guys have lots of fun and keep us posted. :)

  • Elisa

I’m not very sure and I only ever inquired casually, but I think they started regulating the liquids you take into the planes because you can apparently use them to make explosives or something like that. That’s why you can only take tiny bottles of liquids as carry-ons (or at least that’s what I believe).

  • Danielle R.

The whole less than 3oz and no water bottles started when 9/11 occurred in the United States. Sad day.

    Have Fun though!!

  • Joy

Not being able to take a lot of liquids on a plane came from the 9/11/2001 bombing of the world trade center I believe. Bombs can be made of certain chemicals and the United States started regulating liquids on planes so that people cannot make bombs. Someone else correct me if I’m wrong.

  • Sarah

Looks awesome in Italy! One day I would like to go, too!
About the Airport stuff, it’s for security reasons. They’re afraid you might be carrying bad things in liquid forms, possibly explosive, things like that. Although…I don’t see how putting it in a plastic bag would be such a protection! lol It’s silly to me, just makes packing a pain.
Have fun and thanks for sharing this experience with us! :)

  • Denisa

    Hi Zuzana,

You asked in your recent video what is the reason behind prohibiting passengers to take water on a plane or any liquid bigger than 3.4 ounces. The reason is that in December 2001 there was a “shoe bobmer” on an American Airlines flight and if he had just enough water he would be able to make a big explosion on the plane. Although he lit his shoe (where he had explosive material) he needed to combine it with water in order for it to fully mix and explode. Therefore, we now have to take off our shoes at the airport and can’t have any large liquids…

  • Kitty

    Bravo!
Great work on the camera work and editing! Great ending with the acordion.

I haven’t left a comment for ages but have been doing my workouts regularly.
People are noticing the changes my body is going through so whenever someone asks me what I’m doing I credit you and put them on to your site.

I’ve been to Rome, Florence, Siena and Venice but would love to see Sicily…I hope to see it through your lense until the day I get there myself!

Good idea traveling light. Buy what you need as you go.

There is a very cool park somewhere in the vacinity of the Spanish steps, I think it is the Villa Borghese…I remember running around a dirt track there.

  • B.M

I am so jealous of you guys! Make sure to visit the collisseum.

  • Isabelle from Canada

You both seem so genuinely nice and amazing people!

Hope you two have the most adventurous and fun time on your trip :)

Thank you so much for the workout and life videos !!!! :)

  • chubbiebonnie

Wow, I love your trip alraddy! thanks for taking me with you.

  • http://www.sisygarza.com sisy

It all started after September 11th :o(

  • http://www.worldexpressionsonline.com Laura

I believe the whole packing your little bottles in see through plastic bags at the airport started after this person tried to smuggle a bomb onto a plane that could be assembled by combining various liquids that would trigger a chemical exlosion some years ago, that’s the idea I have. And with 9/11 the security checks have been getting stricter and crazier…

  • lauren

hi. i love your workout i have been doing them for a little over a week and i can see same change. i want to say thank you and when i first saw your workouts i thought they were easy but they are not. i try to do them every day but Sunday i take as a rest day. so keep on doing the workout they are fun to do and hard to do. and when every i do not feel like working out i look at some of workouts and than i start to workout.i hope that you have fun on your vacation. • Karla

What a beautiful time you are having guys….

  • Geapet

I think they don’t allow liquid on the plane any more because of tourist bombers, they use liquid to make bombs and its difficult to detect a bomb in liquid form.

    G

  • kaila

    9/11 untited states.

  • Christine

Hey guys…i think they limit liquids to help crack down on terrorism. I live by the big airport BWI in the USA (by Washington DC) and they only allow 3 ounces TOTAL. Crazy. However, I do know that you can take an EMPTY water bottle through security. Put it in the tray with your liquids and make sure it is empty. Once on the other side, go find a water fountain and you don’t have to pay inane amounts of money for water. Hope that helps and safe travels :)

  • Yobi

I miss Italy…you guys should defintely vist Venice–if you have the chance. Awesome adventure! Maybe be you guys could do a workout in the middle of a piazza.

  • mag

    wooooooooooooooow!
    great video! so beatiful!

  • Travis Bailey

    Hi Zuzana/Freddy,

Thank you for sharing your adventure from Toronto to Rome. I actually live 10 minutes away from Yonge and Dundas in Toronto where both of you were! :)…To answer your question Zuzana about why you had to check your plastic bottles with liquids/gels, there was an incident where an airline passenger nearly created/detonated a bomb hidden in his underwear that was made out of bottles of liquids. I believe that the passengers on board the plane stopped this person just in time…Ever since that incident, rules about not allowing carry-ons of bottles with liquids/gels over a certain amount were created/enforced. Hope that this answers your question Zuzana. Thanks again Freddy/Zuzana for sharing your adventure…looking forward to your next update!

  • ixita

OMG¡¡¡¡ your trip looks so funn¡¡ Thanks for sharing you guys¡¡¡
I wanted to tell you that ive been vegan for a week now, and I think its great, I dont miss meat at all, so thanks for showing me a simpler aproach to dieting.

  • MERCY

Because of terrorists! Surpised Frederick doesn’t know. Those items aren’t allowed due to the fact that those liquids and gels resemble products that can make explosives and utilized to blow up a plane in flight. It looks lovely over there. Both of you look so radiant, glowing with happiness. Stay safe.

  • Nadya

They prohibited liquds on the plains after an attempted terrorist attack that used liquid explosive.

  • http://www.myspace.com/heathyrblack Heathyr

Wow! I’m so jealous! I wish I had the money to fly to Europe! By the way, they don’t let you take liquids (including bottled water) because back in 2006-ish some terrorists had planned to blow up the planes using liquid explosives concealed as regular liquids.. The police in the UK caught the terrorists before they had the chance to do anything though and everything was confiscated and so now they take such precautions

  • MikeK

“Ban on liquids and gels introduced in 2006

Security was beefed up at Canadian airports after Aug. 10, 2006, when British police announced that they had foiled a plot to blow up commercial aircraft flying from Britain to the United States.

As updated on Nov. 6, 2006, the rules affect you if you’re flying from any Canadian airport, including on a domestic trip. After pre-board security screening, you can carry on liquids, gels or aerosols in containers, with some restrictions.”

  • Maryum

They started making us put liquids in bags due to terrorist threats. That’s pretty much all I know. :(

  • Sarah

what a beautiful place! in answer to your question, i think small amounts of chemicals (could even be clear and look like water) can be carried separately then mixed to form dangerous explosives and thats why you have to declare all liquids.
    sarah

  • Elena

Have Great Great Days!!!! It is very interesting to follow you!

  • Stephan

    Hey guys!

The deal with the 100ml bottle thing for the airport is the new security measures they put in since 9/11… I don’t know the details, but we have to live with it.

I travel often travel from Montreal to Edmonton and it’s the same rules. So what I do is I make sure I don’t have any bottles at all on me in my carry-on bagage. If you have cosmetics and stuff make sure to put it in your check baggage.

When I travel I always pack a lunch… but I never brink a drink because of that stupid rule. So what you do is you pass the Gate, then you go to Tim Hortons and buy a bottle of Iced Tea and you’re good to go!

You just have to buy it on the other side of the gate. I know the rule doesnt make much sense, but it’s a control isssue.

    Hope that helps!
    Have a nice trip guys!

    Steph

  • http://www.flickr.com/photos/lindilindi/ Melinda

You don’t follow the news much eh? Haha. A while ago there was a scare in London that terrorists attempted to bring liquid explosives on planes and assemble a bomb when already on the plane. At the time everyone who was in the process of travelling had to leave ALL liquids in order to allowed to board. We’re talking even expensive perfumes and liquors that people purchased in duty-free and were still unopened!! So after this crazyness going on for a few days they decided to allow very small amounts of liquids.

When I was taking live leis from Hawaii as a gift, they would not even allow ice to go through security. Pretty stupid actually, because the freezing point of anything other than water would be much lower.

As with the case of all stupid rules, this one stuck as well. :(

  • http://www.flickr.com/photos/lindilindi/ Melinda

Ahhh your video makes me want to travel so bad. But no time… and the nearest landmass is 4000 miles away from here!

  • Sam

Your italian pronounce is perfect, have fun in Rome :)

  • Laura

Hi Zuzane.. I went crazy when I couldn’t find your web site, but thank god, we still have you tube… I been trainning with you for only a month, but I have seen so many changes in my body, that I’m so happy.. I have also included my daugther (17 yrs) and my son (13 yrs) in doing your routines, and let me tell you.. you are our hero.. thak you very much…

  • Mills

the whole baggies in airports started when the US had a terrorist scare from an explosive liquid people where trying to use on planes.

i don’t like the baggies. :( its so annoying not being able to bring on water and contact liquids, i used to love to travel with just one bag but that’s not possible with the strict limits in Alaska. I’m pretty sure we arn’t allowed to have nail clippers either.

  • anja

    Hi …
I hope that you and your husband will enjoy in Rome…I was there two mounts ago…It is so beautiful city… all best from Croatia… You should visit Croatia too… :)

  • http://motioncore.com Kelly

I am soooooooooo jealous!!! Looks like great fun.

The bottle/baggy thing is a response to 9-11 attacks from 2001. The idea being that you could be carrying explosive liquids that look like water, lotion etc.

  • maria

hi guys !! those places are sooo beautifull i’d love to go there someday! love that u’re sharing your trip with us.. thanks!!

my english is not very good, but i hope u get the idea… this is the explanation someone gave me on 2006 when i went to spain on why u have to put your cosmetics and other liquid stuff (up to 100ml) on those plastic bags when you fly: it’s a security measure due to all that’s been hapening with terrorism since 11/9.. let’s say they’re “afraid” that your cleansing lotion for example doesn’t really contain a cleansing lotion inside it and that you put there some quimical product that combined with something else can make a bomb or some sort of explosive…. it sounds silly cause u just put your stuff there and they give it back to u before u get on the plane… but guess thats the way they found to fight terrorism :S

  • knn

    Hi guys,
The thing with airline regulations started with the 9/11 in USA. You see you can always hide explosives and such in the form of simple liquids. Bon voyage!

  • Elena

    Hi guys!

welcome to my home country!!!! :)

I live in the Nort east part oF Italy- Padova that is 30minutes by train from Venice.

I was in Rome last week. It’s so fun to see the city again i your videos :D
I can agree that people out there are very friendly. I hope you like Rome as much as I did!

  • Arianna

    Hi guys,
I live in Rome and I’m excited to see you here ^.^
    Enjoy the sun, bon vojage!

  • Cargo

    Hey!

I love your site! I think you guys have a great recipe for success at every level!

To answer Zuzanna’s question about 100ml max bottles in the plane, it all started because some freak of a mother brought in some milk bottles to feed her child on board but instead injected these bottles with some explosive liquid mixture!

I think this now standard proceudre is a must and also, although it is obnoxious and have made me leave behind some great creams & perfumes (because sometimes I would forget I had these!), I think it can limit the amount of toiletries we bring!

Have a great time in Italy! We almost went to Sicily at the end of July, but finally opted for Norway! We also always travel lightly mainly because we have travelled a lot (!) and understand that you don’t need that much and for some reason, I always wear the same thing!

Cheers from Moscow! (I’m actually Canadian!)

  • Tha Forkmaster

About the small carry on containers that you are allowed to bring with you on the plane. It’s due to an attempted terrorist attack, where they smuggeled liquid explosives on to a plane. Somehow it didn’t go off or they managed to discover it in time. After that insident the authoroties or other experts calculated that containers with liqiud explosives smaller than 100 ml can’t cause an explosion big enough to bring the plane down. So thats why.
    Have a great vacation!

  • Marina – Russia

So great seeing you guys visiting one of my most fav. cities!
As for the workouts, I think one can do quite a good one on Villa Ada, there are even some pull ups bar there ;-)
And it’s just a nice place to have a walk. Not so popular like Villa Borghese, but loved mostly by locals.

Enjoy your stay and keep us updated! :-))

  • Katrin

    Hi Zuzana & Frederick,

enjoy your trip to Rome! I loved Rome, it is such a great city! Don´t forget to eat masses of the best pizza ever and to throw a coin into the Fontana di Trevi!:)
Concerning your “bottle” question: It is for safety reasons. The smaller the amount of liquids and gels you are allowed to bring, the smaller the risk of you being able to build a bomb out of it. (Sorry, that was bad English). Best, Katrin

Lufthansa: “[...]From 2013 onwards passengers in the EU will generally be able to take liquids on board with them again. Heya!

As far as the liquids in plastic bags…yea I don’t know. Some moron decided to pack some kind of a destructive material in something like a liquid tube or container so now they take extra care in checking those.

Your trip looks so amazing so far!

  • gaurav

    wow!!
    thats really romantic…

  • lisa-marie

ha ha.. so true the people are loud, but I hope you have the most amazing time.

Rome left such a positive impression on my life, It was so beautiful, esp at night.

    Loving the videos :)!

    xx

  • Hollie

Hey!! been following your sight for just over a year now. and its compelling stuff! You two are just so natural and genuine together – inspirational really…you ‘roc’ :P

Cant wait for the next installment of your trip :D

P.S. you guys should come to England; a place called St.ives – its beautiful…

  • Maz

The bottle thing started after 9/11 because they realised that terrorists could make explosives on the planes by bringing apparent “normal” liquids on board then mixing them later to make bombs etc.

They put a 100ml limit on liquids because I don’t think these things can be made with this volume. Water bottles are especiall high risk, so they only allow you to bring water on a plane that you’ve bought after check in.

No offense guys but where have you been? Thought you would know this since you travel so much ;)

  • shama

Because after september 11 they wanted to make sure that nobody could make a bomb or whatever aboard…because even though you say it’s water it might not really be water hence the limit on the amount of liquid you can carry because with 100 ml you can’t make a bomb or anything dangerous

  • Antonia

    Hi Zuzana and Freddy!

Thankyou for taking us! Rome looks wonderful!

  • http://www.moulsari.com Moulsari

Awesome you were in Amsterdam! That’s where I live! And if you were at the airport yesterday (Thursday 8/7) then maybe I was there too, flying to London for the weekend! :)

Have a great trip, you guys!

  • http://www.smilewithtulip.co.uk Kezza

    Hi guys,

Your trip looks amazing. Iv never been to Italy but would love to go someday. I hope your films inspire me so someday is sooner rather then later.

In answer to your question about why we have to take little bottles and have then in a clear bag I think it is something to do with explosives. They have to be careful since 9/11 so they want to make sure you cant make a bomb from the chemicals in your toiletry stuff.

    Have an awesome time. x

  • Tereza

    Hi gyus:)

I heard that the “bottle check” on airport is because you could have some explosive liquids in that – that’s why you are allowed into the plane with sealed bottles bought on the airport only.

Anyways, I’ve been following the workouts for 3 weeks already and I’m training for half-marathon at the same time and I must say that these are great cardio exercises even for a runner. What’s more, I have a body composition scanner scale which tells me I have 2 more kilos of muscles even though I have a “vegetarian experiment” as well. Thank you for great workouts and other tips.

I have to go for my long run now, and Tone, Trim and Tight Workout straight after that:) Enjoy Italy!

    Tereza

  • Martin

    Hi Zuzana,

Regarding the bottle issue. I am sure it had something to do with after 9/11 terrorists and that liquid could be disguised as something else and used to blow up planes etc or used as some form of weapon.

Hope you had a good time

    Martin

  • Mark

    Zuzana,
The reason they started with limiting liquids on planes is that there was a plot by some terrorists (in Britain, I think) to bring explosive components onto planes in liquid form in large bottles of drinks like Gatorade, etc. The plan was to then mix the liquid on the plane and blow it up.

Eating healthy while traveling is so difficult, especially in the airport and on the plane.

Enjoy the trip, looking forward to more videos.

    Mark.

  • http://toandfromTorontoairportadvice Tina

    Hey Guys,

Next time you want to get to and from the airport in Toronto, just take the TTC. It’s much faster and cheaper (cash: $3.00 each one way) than the bus from downtown. Just go west bound to Kipling Station and catch the 192 airport express bus. It only takes about 10-15 minutes (depending on what terminal you need) from the subway station. I do this all the time and until they extend the subway to the airport, this is the best way to get there.

Have fun in Rome. I really liked it when I visited there a few years ago.

    all the best,

    Tina

  • idorotka

I like U veeeery much and from this day, i’ll be working more with ur exercises (i’m going to run marathon on october, so i must choose differend exercises besides running, bicycles etc. :) ). Great job! and have a nice travel. :)

Oh wow – that piazza was gorgeous! And the food – yum!! Thanks for taking all the footage while you’re traveling – it’s so fun to live vicariously through you!

I’m sure someone has already answered your question, but just in case they haven’t….a couple years ago there was a threat where terrorists were planning to take liquid explosives on airplanes – disguising them as beverages and cosmetics. So that’s why you’ve had to deal with all the restrictions with your carry-ons now.

Unfortunately, I don’t know enough about it to know why 3oz containers are o.k. or why you have to put them all in a bag. I have read that they are hoping to have better screening equipment so that might relax some of the restrictions by the end of this year.

I’m looking forward to all your Italian updates – have a great trip!

  • Rachelle

I know what that means ; ) haha too cute.
Amazing that you are sharing bits of Italy with us. thank you as always! enjoy your trip!!

  • Kayla

    Hey Zuzana and Freddy!
I visit my dad in Florida all the time and Im pretty sure that you have to put anything thats a liquid in those baggies because its like a safety hazard…people can put gel based explosives in them. Im not 100% sure but I think thats why.

  • Dakota

Have a grand time! “Z” The liquids at the airport are limited because certain fluids mixed can be explosive. That is why they have size and volume restriction or in most cases a ban. It was explained to me and the wife at several airports. It’s a pain in the butt. Anyway, have fun, fun, and more fun. Freddy make sure you catch the finals of world cup. I’m rooting for the Netherlands. Love the video clips from your vacation. Freddy, behave yourself on the back of the bus…..Not! C-ya guys!

  • Marisa

I’m not sure but I’m guessing its for safety reasons after 9/11 in the United States. Also people I guess they say can make bombs out of certain things so you can only take certain size hairsprays and perfumes ect

  • savannah

    Hey guys!! : )
Just watched the clip from Toronto to Rome & I love it!! You guys crack me up; just like me & my hubbs… I wish we were having a nice, sexy vacation!!! We need it… so i shall live vicariously thru you all… ENJOY YOUR TIME!!!! Can’t wait to see more… xoxo

  • mel

I’m not sure why the little ziploc bags…but all water/gels over 100 ml (I think!) are banned from aircraft since 9/11 because it could be bombs/explosives. Have agreat time in Italy!!!! Traevlling is the best!!! happy Summer!

  • http://www.facebook.com/bethany.ivey?ref=profile Beth

Ah, yes, the liquids. Those new rules came into play when a little while back a would be terrorist tried to make a bomb by pouring together some volatile chemicals mid-flight. Ever since then, it’s been a major hassle to fly with liquids.

  • carol in Texas

Zuzana & Freddy… I believe the reason they do the 3 0z bottles in the zipplock baggie is because the 9-11 issue. They don’t want people to take a big bottle of hair spray on board and a lighter to make a flame thrower. Also the NO water issue I think is because they don’t want someone sneaking Vodka or a different clear alchohol on board to start a fire… My thoughts (I was so mad when i had to throw away a brand new bottle of water too). I bet Freedy was so HAPPY to get meat on the plane ride!! Good job sticking to your Vegian Diet! :] ‘Back of the bus’ HAHAHAHA only you Freddy would say that. No wait My Husband would say that too. Well hope ya’ll have a SAFE trip. BE CAREFUL!!!

  • deuzza

heey…i can’t believe you are here ..in rome..
    so cool…maybe i see you :D…
    i’m here for holiday too..
    zuzana…you’re the best..
i started to do your workouts a few weeks ago…and i’m already seeing the results..have a nice vacation here..in italy..:D

  • Nancy

Zuzana, this rule started in August 2006 and it a response to the threat of using liquid explosives to blow up a plane (similar to why we have to take our shoes off). As many 3.4 oz bottles that will fit in the baggie is what is allowed. There are many other products also not allowed, snow globes and most liquidy food items (I had a jar of bruschetta topping confiscated). This applies to carry on only, if it is not a carry on it doesn’t matter. Don’t try to make sense of it because there are too many holes in the thinking, but just know that the rule is meant to do the best it can in protecting passengers http://blog.tsa.gov/2008/02/more-on-liquid-rules-why-we-do-things.html. You’ll be pleased to know that cattle prods, meat cleavers, axes and hatchets are also banned from carry on luggage. http://www.tsa.gov/travelers/airtravel/prohibited/permitted-prohibited-items.shtm
Have a great trip, and I want you to know that finally you have demonstrated the kind of burpee that I can do!

  • surgery

Zuzanna, you’re so gorgeous and fun. I will be just like you one dayyy.

Also, all that airport protocol is pretty much from 9/11. Explosive liquids can be used by terrorists in amounts greater than 3.4 oz, I think.

  • Amy N. From California

    So Fun!

I love Rome! Do you try to stay on track with eating while on vacation? How do you keep your portions in check with all the great food?

  • Audra

How cool is that for you two to take the time to share such a beautiful place with us. Many thanks! This probably the closest I’ll get to seeing Italy. Enjoy yourselves, you two deserve it :)

  • Denise

The whole liquid thing started when some moron try to make a bomb on the plane with liquids that were disquised as toiletry items. So, you know the saying…one bad apple can spoil the whole bussel!! I seriously don’t understand why people can’t just get along and not try to kill. Until the day that we have peace, we have to all be extra caution of the morons out there.

    Have a FUN FUN TRIP!!!
    xx, Denise :D

  • Karina Denmark

Well, thank you for taking us with you to Italy. :) It looks great already. Well, Freddy you’re not the only one to know what it means to sit back in the bus. :P
The rule about waterbottles, shampoos and make up seems funny. I have been right in to look at the copenhagen airport webside.

    It says:
“On 6 November 2006, new EU restrictions came into force for liquids in airline passengers’ carry-on baggage. You are allowed to carry the following:

■Liquids, gels and sprays: no more than 100 millilitres (equivalent to 100 g) per container.
■You may carry several containers (bottles, cans, tubes, etc.) but they must fit into a transparent, one-litre bag, which must be sealed.
    ■The bag must be re-sealable.
Liquids and liquid-like substances include gels, lotions, mixes of liquid and solid substances and the contents of aerosol containers, e.g. shaving foam and hair spray. In addition, liquids and liquid-like substances include all kinds of beverages, tooth paste, hair gels, perfume, lipgloss, mascara and other kinds of substances of similar consistencies.

For inflight use, you may also carry medicine, baby food and liquids that form part of a special diet. You must be able to prove to the security screeners that the liquids are essential and what you say they are.”

I will guess that it is the amount of fluent things. People can do bad thing by transporting things they shoudn’t. Make a bomb or help bad people with their actions, taken bad stuffs into other contries. That is my guess. :P

  • Charlene

I’m so jealous!! Thanks for bringing us to Italy: ) The liquid thing at the airport started in the U.S. after 9-11 when some jerks tried to use their shaving bottles filled with explosive materials on the plane…so the rest of us must suffer and have limited fluids when traveling: (
    Enjoy Italia!!

  • mikkel

the reason you cant take fluid with you is cuz it could be some kind og explosive or gasoline or something you could use to do some kind of wierd terror activity..

but in reality its total idiotic .. and im all for removing those stupid rules .. if someone really did want to do something evil then there is always ways to do it..

  • Kim

So lovely! Enjoy your trip there, Rome is so amazing isn’t it? I wish I was there with you :) Thanks for sharing!

For the liquids, I think it started in the post 09/11 era, 2006 or something, when a bunch of guys were caught in the UK while planning on hiding explosive powder in waterbottles or something… Apparently they prepared to target planes with that. I think first, all liquids were banned, but later the rules became more flexible and ever since one can only take small amounts of liquid, so that you can never make a bomb thats big enough to cause serious damage to a plane. And you have to “show” the liquid to the security so they can see if there is anything suspicious inside the bottle, apart from shower gell and tooth paste. I think there is a technology for scanners to detect dangerous liquids but I’m not sure if it is actually already used in airports. Still it’s pretty annoying isn’t it? But I guess better to be over-protective than too ignorant…

  • marta

    I envy you!
Have a wonderful time out there! :)

  • Foxy

Hi Guys! Thanks for the video. It’s nice to see you happy :)

By the way here is the link about why they don’t allow you to take more liquid on the board:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2006_transatlantic_aircraft_plot

Enjoy the trip and relax! You guys deserve it… I’m gonna do my workout YES!!!

  • http://rathernotsay Sabrina

Airport security has banned water and liquids except in small containers since sept. 11 2001. The official reason is that technically you could be bringing on bomb making materials in the bottles although any one who knows anything about explosive can tell you that this is virtally impossible to be true. The actual reason they make us do it is slave training. It sounds stupid but they want to get us used to being treated as slaves and doing as were told, even when were being told to do extremly stupid things we must learn to Obey. I know some of you might think I’m crazy now but if you dont believe me you can look it up. Its called behavior modification training and it was made famous by the nazi’s. Think “show me your papers” type brutality. :D The boil down is its just more bureaucratic crap lol. I am so happy you love Italy!! cant wait to see all your adventures!

  • Nikki

    Hey you two,

You guys look like you’re having alot of fun. About Zuzana’s question about the liquids and gels in the airport.

Back in 2006 there was a terrorist plot to blow up airplanes using bombs made from liquids. Since then, every international airport has put a very strict rule about carrying liquids in your carry on luggage (i.e. only one plastic baggie per passenger with no more than 100ml bottles).

I’m a new reader to your website and you have got me really hooked onto this. I recently moved countries and haven’t been to the gym but you have given a reason for me to stay away from the gym…. I haven’t been this sore in so long… and I have no qualms cross training for an hour. Thank you so much and keep up the good work.

  • MJ

    Hi Zuzana and Freddy!
About the liquids, you are still allowed to buy water bottles after the security checks and take it to the plane. This is what I usually do. Never understood the point of packing everything into those small plastic bags either :-)
Hope you will have a wonderful trip!!

  • Anna

Wow!! Willem Dafoe has been in SO many movies! That’s why you need a camera phone ! :) How long are you guys going to be in Italy for?? I’ll be there next month with my bf, so I’m very excited to see a glimpse of your trip!!

P.S. Love the accordian music at the end! Very authentic, felt like I was there! haha

  • Sara

I absolutely love this! Thank you for taking me on your adventure. You take me away from my cubicle for 5mins. of pure adventure. Loved the accordi0n fade out as well. :)

  • Kelly

It looks amazing!!! I hope you guy’s have a great trip. I will be moving to Holland in 12 days time, that breakfast you had in Amsterdam looked yum!

  • Kami

Seems you are having great time, it’s fun!!! :) I want to go to Rome sooo much. One day I’ll do the same with my boyfriend! :)

  • Lissie

It would have been funny if William Dafoe had been like “hey I know you from that website bodyrock.tv. I do your guys’ workouts everyday” lol. Too bad he didn’t, but exciting for Freddy. Thanks for the workouts and letting those of us who can’t go in person travel alongside you. You guys are awesome ;p

  • Andrea

    Yay for you guys!

I am going on a 16 day tour through Italy at the end of September. I might have to buy a folding/travel cane just in case (I’m the one with the broken leg), although it should be okay by then…and even if the trip seems “iffy” with a recently broken leg, I have had sooo many people tell me that even if I have to skip some sightseeing due to pain or discomfort, that I should still go on the trip and just find myself a cafe, and eat, and drink…and just be in Italy :)

(and I will be doing short body weight exercises daily in the hotel room to work off all the food and wine!)

I look forward to getting a sneak peak of Italy through you guys.

I finally got the ok from the doctor to “weight bear as tolerated”, ween myself off crutches, and got the OK TO START SQUATS!! LOL never thought being able to do squats would make me so happy :)

Thank god for muscle memory – my physique seems to be bouncing back to what it was 2.5 months ago before the accident, really quickly. Although I was really sore yesterday…I may have been a little too eager to start working my lower body again…and 100 squats right off the bat may have been a little much ;)

Too bad there is no way for me to attach a pic of my original very broken leg xray, and the xray that shows the full metal rod running down the whole length of my shin. Maybe an improvement for your new layout?! The ability for your readers to have an “avatar?”

  • Colin

Okay, that last Piazza and the place where you ate…my wife and I stayed in a hotel just up the street a month ago. I loved it!! We used to walk by there every day. So cool to see you guys there. I recognize all the places you guys are walking. It’s great. That part of Rome is awesome to stay at. I hope you guys enjoy it like I did!

    Colin

  • http://mickyhcorbett.com Micky C

    Hi guys

Make sure you get a photo of one of the random feet on a plinth. There’s one someone near the Pantheon I think. It’s all that’s left of a statue that used to be there I think from Roman times, but not sure.

It looks really mad just in standing by a wall in a little cobbled street. It hasn’t been moved at all.

  • Maz

Simple: Some idiots brought some liquids that, when mixed could explode. So they are limiting the amount so it can’t explode so much

  • Andrea

    11.9. NYC… WTC

  • Ana

    Willem Dafoe?!? LUCKYYYYYY.

  • Ali

    Hi guys!

You’re trip looks so much fun!I might be wrong but after the foiled bomb threat on British Airways a few years ago, you’re not allowed to bring liquids on a plane. Some people planned to create a bomb using liquid components.

  • Tiff

The bottles are because of 9/11 in the U.S. They are afraid of chemicals that can be used as weapons.

Rome looks beautiful. I didn’t realize you were back in Canada. How’d I miss that?

  • Lizze

you two are blow my mind out of this world sexy, silly, dare devils
thanks for sharing your venture with all us!
    super bad ass =)

  • Lex

Freddy – I would have been just as excited to see Willem Dafoe! (Boondock Saints is one of my all time favorite movies)
Thank you guys for the footage of your trip. It’s a lot of fun “traveling” right along with you :)

  • Lizze

Northwest Airlines flight from Amsterdam to Detroit on Christmas Day 2009 had a suspect bomber Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab
the Nigerian man made mixture of powder and liquid with intent take down his flighs air plane once aboard
luckly his rig failed to detinate but people on the flight heard popping sound like fire crackes and saw a glow…
this plot led security officials to limit amount of liquid and gels passangers can carry-on board
    and
think its one reason why rules are tight at air port now

  • Marcy

I think airports around the world started doing restrictions on liquids and gels after 9/11, because that’s how the terrorists were able to make the bombs. And why you have to remove shoes. Stinks, I know.

  • Carmen

I’m so excited for you guys! Italy is on my list of places to go, so I’ll enjoy these updates. Travelling is one of those things that creates a strong bond between two people. So have a wonderful time, and thanks for sharing your journey.

  • Long

    hi Zuzanna!

i’m just watching your adventure & saw that you were questioning about the plastic zip-lock bags at the airport. all airports have this now due to the past terrorist attacks. its a precaution so security can check your liquids if needed. in California, your even required to take off shoes, belt(s), & your personals (i.e. wallet, keys, phone, etc.).

  • Jordan

They only allow a small amount of liquid because people were making chemical bombs. The baggie just acts as a way to measure the amount of liquid you have–to ensure you don’t have more than they allow. I assume no bottles of water because they are large containers of liquid and they have no way of knowing if it really is water–unless they want to test it themselves..

  • Ashley P

I’m so happy to see you guys in Rome, only a place I could only dream about visiting.

I think the thing with the shampoo started because they don’t want to take a chance of any thing bad entering the planes. Especially with all the threats going on lately.

  • diana

that is so awesome! thanks for sharing your trip with us. Have a fabulous time!!

  • Lila

Hey guys!! Have a great trip to Italy. Please keep us updated of the whole trip…It so exciting to travel! The whole idea of putting the bottles in a plastic bag if I’m not mistaken, stared after 9/11, after the terrorist attacks. I believe that terrorist can carry liquid explosives in bottles on tne plane or something like that. Maybe some one else can explain it better than I. Any way, I wish you the best on your trip…Lot’s of love..Lila, from Mexico!

  • Charmaine

OMG that is NOT funny! I would have been absolutely heartbroken if I didn’t get a picture with Willem Dafoe, he’s so cool.

The liquids thing started because of a plot to bomb planes using liquid explosives. Thankfully nothing ever happenned but the fact that you could just walk onto a plane with enough explosive to blow up everything in a drinks bottle caused all of this. It is very inconvenient, especially if you are only taking carry on, but then I’d rather be inconvenienced than blown to bits.

Enjoy Italy you guys, I’m sure it will be amazing!

  • Denise

    Hey Freddie and ZuZana,
Thanks for sharing so much of your personal lives with us BodyRockers-most recently:)!

I was surprised in your packing video-my husband LOVES the packs you picked-that you were packing your beauty bottles. Ya’ll have moved so much, I thought that you new about all the changes.

It all started with the high alert security. I have a little bag that is filled with my little bottles, so when I go through security-I just pull out my clear bag that has all the bottles and such. Envious of your travels, we do try to leave the US every year to go somewhere-but it is usually for work(medical missions) and not for vacation.

Thank you again. Your video camera is AWESOME. My husband would like to know….please.

    ~Denise
    (Florida)

  • Frederick

    Hi Denise, It’s a Canon vixi hfs100 :)

  • JT

Trip looks like it’s off to a great start! (At the airport, the limited liquids is because some terrorist tried to bring liquids that could be mixed into an explosive.) I’m curious what kind of camera you use to film for bodyrock.tv. Pictures look great!

  • Becca

    Zuzana and Freddy–

Thanks so much for all you guys do! You are both so inspirational and seem wonderfully genuine. I really appreciate all your posts, be they new workouts, diet/recipe ideas, or travel logs :). I have to tell you that your workouts are so different from anything I have done before, and this, paired with the fact that each day is a unique workout, makes exercising so much more fun. I’m 18, and I’ve even been able to get my parents to do them with me! Even after only a short time, we’ve all seen results, so thanks again, from the bottom of my heart! :)

  • ReD3sign

I was wondering if it’s possible for an hour for a mini meet-up in Toronto when you come back to Toronto? I am sure there are so many people that love you 2 in Toronto that would love to meet you!! I would LOVE LOVE LOVE! to meet you 2! You 2 are an inspiration to all of us and it’d be so cool to meet and see you!!! Downtown where you were would be awesome!!! Please consider >_<

  • Nicole D Lopez

The “back of the bus” joke was hilarious. I’m still laughing about it :)

  • Sharon

I believe after September 11, 2001 airports have ampt up their security measures to prevent another terrorist attack from happening. The small bottles and bags I believe are just one way of making sure someone doesn’t have enough chemicals to create a bomb.

  • tina

njoy ur trip….i really thankful to guys.I have to attend a wedding in India and ws plannin to wear a lehenga(an indian attir) bt was worried that i would not look good in it but when I got it and wore it, I looked awsome according to my friends and parents…and all this becuz of you

  • Mike

Are you guys going to be posting a photo album of you trip?

  • The Godfather

Ah beautiful romantic Rome! Another great video. You should have had that accordion player play the theme from “The Godfather” movie. You could have made him an offer he couldn’t refuse :-)

  • Terry

Aw Freddy is so cute (:

  • Staci E.

Hahahaha I know what bac of the bus manes! hahaha :)

  • Lloyd

The plastic bags are necessary to keep everyone paranoid and afraid.

    Have fun in Italy!

  • Wendy

Glad you’re having a good time in Italy, I love Italy too! SInce I work in airport security I may be able to shed some light on this subject. The liquids and gels ban began in July 2006 due to attempted bombings of aircrafts originating at London Heathrow destined for North American cities. Terrorists put liquid explosives into common plastic bottles. Fortunately their plan was foiled and since then a maximum of 100mL per container total maximum per person 1 L of liquids and gels has been implemented throughout the world. Hope that helps :)

  • Megan

Hey guys! I love that you are taking such a fantastic, last minute trip. How fun! I was curious what brand/size backpack Zuzanna has? I need to buy one for some upcoming trips (my suitcase sadly would be too troublesome). Thanks!

  • karleen

Hello! We are planing on staying in Rome next fall. Where did you guys stay? We haven’t figured out where a good place would be. You only get so much from their websites. I trust people who have stayed more. Thaks and you are so lucky! You sould come to the Dominican Republic. Trust me you would love it1

  • Elisa

Hey next time you will be in Italy,

I will suggest to go to Sicily, that’s where I am from! It is gorgeous! especially for the beaches there are a big variety, sandy, rocky, pebbles.

The best place to visit is Cefalu (near Palermo) there is a big hill ( so you can go for a nice a hike) and see a spectacular view of the city and the water .

You can hike, swim, eat, shop =) for clothes and art

well I am from Catania, but that is my favorite place to visit =)

Well take care and enjoy your vacation

  • Russ

    You are precisely correct.

I’ve really enjoyed your Italy videos, having been there twice in recent years.

    Russ

  • nikki
