Swimming In Capri Italy

Hi guys,

Our Italian adventure continues. Each step along the way we have learned important lessons – namely that there is always a cheaper way of doing things. Unfortunately, this insight usually comes just after you have forked out your money :) The tendency when you are traveling is to make a lot of spontaneous decisions – where to eat, what to buy, what activities to take part in etc. These snap decisions often end up being more expensive then if you just step back for a moment pause and think things through.

By the time we left Naples, we were glad to be moving on. The whole time we were there we didn’t feel particularly comfortable or safe. It seems to have much rougher edges than Rome, but we are thankful for the experience. As I mentioned in our previous post, Naples is the staging point of the next leg of our adventure, as it offers quick access to the Island of Capri. We made our way down to the port and very quickly and without much bother were able to book a passage on one of the speed boat ferry’s that makes the run between Naples and Capri every half hour.

Stepping off of the boat, first impressions were stunning. Capri is simply a marvel of beauty. The clear blue sea, lush natural green’s and gaged peaks combined to overwhelm Zuzana and I ten steps off of the boat. The first thing I said was “I have a feeling that this is a place I may never want to leave”.

A quick tip about the ferry ports – avoid any kind of refreshment in the cafes when you first land. The prices are hyper inflated to the point of being absurd. The waiters may not carry guns, but that won’t stop you from feeling robbed.

Capri town is the height of glamour and wealth. Flip open Vogue and you will find every major designer’s boutique lining the white walled streets. People (most of whom seem to have their noses in the clouds) are prancing up and down the narrow streets making their way to the main square which seems to be the place to be seen. We enjoyed taking this all in and people watching over our gellato’s, but it didn’t take us long to get bored and escape into the many winding nature trails on the island.

    Hi guys ! it’s been a while since i posted a comment but I have to post one after seeing your videos in Italy !!

    I like these vids. Naples is quite known for the rudness and such (you know the mafia etc…). AS someone said on youtube dont take it personal at all. As you could see Italian people are friendly in general.
    Capri is also well known to be an amazing place (i’ve been there yet). We have the same kind of landscapes in the South of France too, that’s why i want to go to Capri !

    Great video! That’s exactly the type of trips I have with my husband—just walking along paths that no one else take and finding gems!

    BTW, don’t feel too bad about the 51euros… I’ve paid 40USD for a cheap white long chair (only one, no towels nor umbrella) on a grassy private land infront of a river in Moscow. That’s supposed to be a normal price here… Also, half of those beautiful yaghts are owned by newly rich Russians!

    Enjoy the rest of your vacation! I’m going to Norway tomorrow where it’s MAX 20degrees… yikes!

    Ahh, Italia! I’m now searching for deals on tickets. I do hope you hit Positano while you’re down that direction, they have a nice pebble beach that used to be free and lemoncello. You have to go up to Tuscany, see Florence, see the duomo, but eat on the other side of the arno (the side without the duomo, etc.), less touristy, cheaper and better food. And, try to stay out in the countryside and eat out in the country, the people are amazing up there. Are you enjoying the coffee??? YUM!

    Everything just seems so unbelievable.

    I didn’t even know there were beaches you had to pay for. I don’t think beaches should be that way at all. Such natural places such be priceless where not just one person can own it and charge others.

    I think the prettiest spots were the places where the water could be seen. I also like the flowers.

    Can’t wait to see more.

    This has to be the sickest video of your Italy trip EVER! Did you think you were dreaming? I lived in Italy for two years but in the northern region. I remember driving up over a hill and an entire lake just appeared with snowcapped mountains surrounding it and fields of grass and wildflowers on the sides of the little beach it had. It was like taking a breath in and holding it when we saw it! The most stunning view – like a painting. But I have to say, the sights you captured in Capri don’t even come close to that lake. LOL Absolutely beauty! So glad you guys are able to enjoy this trip and show it to all of us. Safe trip home!

I am keeping my fingers crossed. Would love to visit Italy next year in celebration of my 20th wedding anniversary.     i´ve got a big question i wanted to ask you for such a long time!
    in general i do my cardio empty-stomached in the morning for having best fat losing results. sometimes it´s pretty hard because usually i´m hungry and the energy is not the same as if i would have eaten some fruits. but i´m convinced of, the results are much better than doing it after eating (no matter how long it´s ago).
    when i do workouts with less reps for building muscle i do eat something like banana, low-fat curd cheese (quark) and some oat flakes maybe 1-2 hours before the workout. to me in this case its important to have enough energy to handle with the heavier weights.
    nevertheless i´m often insecure how to handle with the meals and i´d like to know what you think.

    bye the way. you´re the worlds sweetest muscular girl i´ve ever seen. thank you so much for sharing everything with us. i found you at a time i got very sick of the gym and as i´m following your workouts, everything makes so much more fun and it works so much more easy.

    Wow! Absolutely amazing. I wouldn’t want to leave that place either! Some people are just so lucky to live there and have beautiful homes that overlook the ocean.
    As far as that private beach you guys went to… it looked a little crowded if you ask me… Id rather be on a public beach with more space. You shouldn’t have to pay money to sit in a small area with a chair and an umbrella and snobby people just to sit by the beach. Just enjoy the free natural beauty the island has to offer and sit in the soft sand and put your feet in the water. The best stuff in life are free anyways.

    It’s unbelievable, that island is really fantastic!!! Although here in Greece we have many islands, this particular island’s beauty is far beyond any other I know… You are blessed that you have the opportunity to travel to such astonishing places. I believe that the private beach was too expensive and I think that you can find many other more beautiful places for your swimming for free. Thank you for sharing your moments with us… and last but not least, Zuzana your body is incredible and you must be really proud of yourself. Now you are reaping the benefits of the hard workouts you were doing during the winter… I love you guys!!!

    I LOVE Capri. I never had the chance to stay there unfortunately but had many day trips there when I worked on the Cruise Ships. I would be very happy living there, could you imagine? The lovely weather, natural foods, lack of modern stuff, just being able to get back to nature without all the distractions we have these days (internet, tv, video games etc)

    Zuzana, your peanuts probably weren’t all that cheap considering you bought them on the pier. But in Europe, it’s normal to pay for your space on the beach whether it be a lounge, umbrella etc. even if the beach has no sand…….. (In Italy and France, most beaches are made up of stones)

    You’ve clinched it for me. My next major vacation will be Europe. It might take me some years to save up but I WILL get back there one day!

    I would like to ask if some of the community knows a little bit more of the whole bloodtype diet theory. Friends keep on telling me that i should eat more meat to loose weight/Fat. But im a bit sceptical about it, are there people out there who have experience withit? My bloodtype is O+, but i dont like meat to much, i eat lots of fish en poultry. But recently i red that poulty isn’t good because of i dont remember something about enzymes not beeing procesed by the human body.

    Good advice on Napoli, I got robbed on the way from the train station to the ferry. Definately watch your pockets!!! But that area IS absolutely beautiful, check out Ischia Island if you get the chance, its likes Capri’s lesser known prettier brother (or sister). Glad to hear you’re having fun and nothing bad has happened.

    I like your style of traveling. Spontaneous and not mainstream (like the arco naturale).
    I recomment to visit the old churches. They are (mostly) free, chilly to cool down and you can see a lot of history.

    Next trip, go to the Greek islands. The small ones, not the extremely busy ones. Milos, Sifnos, Folegandros, Nissyros, and then Rhodos for a bit of a busier life. You will definitly love it, I had the best time of my life, the food was great, and it was very relaxing on the islands. Go in May (never in July/August, too hot, too many people).

    I hope you visit it, it’s great for hiking too:)

    I broke my tibia peronne and ankle on one leg and menniscus, anterior and lateral ligaments as well as peronne on my knee on the other leg, and since I saw this space for contacting you I wonder if you knew of some exercises for this type of rehab or how to strenghten my legs based on my condition.

    I can stand on my right leg allready and move it in every direction, and my knee (left) will take a few more months until I can stand on it with my full weight and i cant move it that well to this day since its only been 1 and a half months since suregey that took place on this leg on the 4th of june. I had my tendon-ligament on the back part of my quadriceps (underneath the butt) removed and injerted on my knee, instead of the 2 ligaments that broke, so I need to strenghten all my leg muscles in order to walk since this ligaments that were used will not grow back, I understand that this the part that takes the longest after the ligaments have “welded” to the bone in order to walk.

    if you know of anything that migh help, diet or exercices i appreciate it a lot if you can share it with me.

    I really love the travel videos. Keep it up! I’m going to London in a two weeks and we’re going to go travel from there. I’d love to go to the beach somewhere in Europe; Portugal, Spain, Italy, France — I’m not picky. Unfortunately, my companions are pushing for Amsterdam. I can’t think of anything worse! I hope I get to a beautiful beach like this one. Last time I was in Italy in the summer, we were in Portofino. It was too cold to swim but the water was beautiful! So much nicer than the beaches here in New England.

    In the video u says at a certain time that the place Capri just seems like to be a fairy tale or a paradise… what you guys have seems to me to be as well a living fairy tale…I always say that interconnect yourself to something or to someone simply is a way of living this multiplicity life. you guys are really inspiring…keep it up the good work.

    WOW! I think the Blue Grotto was in Capri! The book I read to my kids was entitled, “Red Sails To Capri” (it was a kids read-a-loud! It was particularly inspiring though!     I love how REAL and GENUINE you both are…. that is why you felt uncomfortable on the private beach. Most of the other people there were fake and uncomfortable in their own lives, that is why they give off that vibe!
