It’s Hot In Sicily!

Hi guys,

We finally arrived in Sicily after a really crappy experience on the over night ferry. If you are planning on going to Sicily I strongly advise you against these ferry’s. We spent the whole 10 plus hours locked away in our tiny cabin afraid to come out until we were approaching land. These boats are not the cruise ships they are made out to be in the brochures.

Once we landed we very quickly managed to get lost in the port city of Palermo. It didn’t take us long to get pointed in the right direction, and everyone was more than happy to give us friendly directions. Sicilians seem to be very friendly, warm people.

The train ride went smoothly until we missed our connection, but again we were shown the way by a very helpful and kind man at the train station who went out of his way to make sure we would catch the right trains. It seems everywhere you go here there are kind people willing to help.

I hope that the video we took from the train gives you some idea of how radiantly beautiful it is here in Sicily. It is a dream come true for us just to be here to begin with, and sometimes we catch each other just staring slack jawed at the natural beauty of the mountains and the impossible blue of the sea.

We are really looking forward to sharing Sicily with you guys – and as we are coming up on the last leg of our trip to Italy we want to soak up as much of the experience of being here as possible before we head back to Canada.

Best,

Frederick and Zuzana

P.S.

I hope that you guys are not slacking on your workouts just because we are away – pick a workout from the home workouts category and do one each day! We will be posting new workouts just as soon as we get back home – we have a lot of gellatos, pizza and pasta to burn off so you can bet it will be intense!

  • Terry

so how much does Zuzana weigh? lol

  • Pati

I’m sorry that you guys felt unsafe on the ferry, but I admit the barricade made me smile, too funny! The hotel in Sicily looks very nice, I hope you have a great time and a positive experience :) Oh… the idea of a phone right next to the toilet must be the stupidest idea that someone could come up with… imagine all the germs on that phone… so disgusting!

  • Ash

I’ve still been keeping up on my workouts. They are challenging, but fun. I feel so good after a workout knowing I did something positive for myself.

In my household we’re kinda afraid to keep a scale in it. We’d be checking it all the time.

  • Moni

Another great video..Zuzanna don’t worry,I’m just like you,I’d go in that van too while my husband would try to stop me.He always laughs that it must be Polish way of doing things..:)Wanted to share with you that we just went hiking(4,5 hrs total)up on the mountain(2297Ft) and because it was soo beautiful on top I decided to do burpees just like you..it was very exhausting but great experience..you guys should visit Vancouver,we’d take you up on the Chief!

  • Jayne

I agree it can be scary on a boat. I think all of the traveling would be neat though. Hey Zuzana, the swim suit you picked was great and it is so cool When someone says “oh where did you get it?” and you say “I bought it in Italy!” lol

  • ashley

soooo how much do u weigh zuzana?

  • Jonathan

When you mentioned the stairs and how it was like Moria…I knew exactly what you were talking about! My favorite part of the movie are the Moria scenes.
Now I MUST go to Sicily and see this place.
You’re lucky you didn’t run into any cave trolls!

  • S. Ambrogio

Sicily is beautiful. Thanks for the advice on not taking the overnight ferry. It sounds ominous. Would you care to elaborate? We plan on going to Italy especially Sicily within the next year or so. My husbands mom, my mother-in-law is from Santa Ninfa, the Trapani Province. It looks beautiful. Thanks for sharing. :)

    Hi Zuzana and Frederick,

I hope you two are having a wonderful second honeymoon. I’ve always wanted to see Rome and Sicily…maybe next year.

    Take care,
    –Chris

  • Sarah

Wow. I love the hotel you guys are at in Italy. I wish I could just take my husband with me to some far away place too just because. But I’m stuck at home. Anyway, I did your workout for absolute beginners for a whole week every day and I beat my personal best 3x!! Now on to another workout and try that for a week. I love ur exercises because u only need ur bodyweight and they’re short too. I’m glad I found this website! Keep going!

    Sarah

  • mary

oh, you didn’t visit palermo! i could have been your guide! :D

  • Ken

You two should have done the “Walk of the Gods” along the Amalfi Coast when you were in Naples. I live and work local here. The hike is awesome, 16 kilometers, that’s a workout.

  • http://fithappyhealthy.com Anita

Hey guys – really enjoying your videos. Freddie – you really looked like the sea doesn’t agree with you…

Love the style of the videos because it really let’s us see the places in a way you won’t find anywhere else.

We never went as far down as Sicily on our trip – so I can’t wait to see your next videos :o) I’m sure there will be a few burpie-worthy places in there… you should map out the places where burpies were performed – LOL.

Hey and if you get tired of Italy hop over to Spain to visit us – we’re in Marbella…

  • http://www.alexremy.com Alex

I’m enjoying your video blogs from Italy so much! You two are lovely and such a sweet couple. I’ve been quietly visiting your site and using your workouts as inspiration for several months now, but only recently started watching the more personal videos. I’m so glad I did, it’s really nice to see your adventures and the beautiful places you visit. Best of luck in Sicily!

  • Onelsy

Hello! today start as a novice, I hope to do well in order to catch them someday intense routines. (Sorry if my English is not good)

    Greetings from Madrid, Spain =)

  • Mladen

    Hi Zuzana and Frederick,

I love that you’re filming your trip to Italy, I’m not going anywhere this year so it’s kind of compensating for thatXD, I feel as if I’d been to Italy now, too. I’m from Croatia so Italy is really close and I will definitely visit it when I have the chance, it’s absolutely beautiful!

I’ve noticed that you’ve put more emphasis on touring the places rather than just sitting on the beach all day long, I so agree with that, if I came to Italy I wouldn’t spend more than 1-2 hours on the beach, I’d go explore!:D

Anyways, hope you’re having a great trip! You should come to Croatia someday, for instance to Dubrovnik, Pula, or even Zagreb – those are my favorites!:)

  • maurilio

i’m from taormina…i’m proud you are here

  • Rasheed

You guys make me want to visit Italy too!

  • DORIS

sooo good to see zuzana eat gelato :)

  • desiree

  • Weronika

dont you do any workouts in the mornings in the hotel-rooms during your vacations?

  • Josh Benham

lol you guys are awesome, i love you both. i wouldnt have gotten in the shady taxi either; good call freddie.

sidenote: the “heres how i built a killer body using this 1 weird trick” ad, the little cartoon man, looks like freddy haha!

  • rene

Did fat assassin workout and had a gelato (New Orleans style) as one of my small meals today, just to feel like I was in the groove. Love the vacation videos, very relaxing beautiful places!

  • Andrea Dre Dog

Thats hilarious that you guys put the ladder against the door. My boyfriend and I have done that a few times when we were in places we didn’t get a good feeling about.

  • Stevie C

Hi Zuzana and Freddy, I am a new comer to your site having just discovered over the weekend. I want to get into the work outs. Should I just follow what you show each day or is there a set routine to start from? I’m enjoying following you on your adventures by the way. Capri looked amazing and likewise Sicily (although a little dirty lol). The sun and sunsets are fantastic, but I guess it’s hard work in the sun eh? Enjoy your trip, will keep watching and follow your lead with the exercises. Ciao!

  • Mike

it doesn’t seem like you guys are posting on tiwitter anymore. Are you guys done on there?

  • rikku

hehehe I am taking holidays from workouts as well! seeing you guys slack off in pizzas and ice cream makes me do the same!! monkey see monkey do!

  • Lada

A přes Čechy se přehnala šílená bouřka:) Užívejte si nádherné dovolené!

  • Alena

This doesn’t look like such a great travel experience.. hope it will improve for you guys tomorrow!

  • Pixel

Can you show us a couple space constrained (like hotel room) workouts? not all hotels have a gym or even much space in the room itself. Sometimes you can move furniture around but thats not always an option.

In many places ive stayed, you cant jump because it either shakes the building or youll annoy the people below.

  • http://www.pure2raw.com Pure2Raw Twins

We are new to your site and love it. We have been reading and enjoying everything on here. You have really inspired us to pick up our workouts some more. Look forward to more workouts, we did one of yours this morning and loved it. Thanks :)

Looks like your trip is going well. We have been to Italy a few years ago and loved it. It was so beautiful! We hope you enjoy your last bit of your trip.

  • Lvette #1

Guys stay away from the mini-bar. Its going to cost you guys a fortune.

  • Groovy granny

    Hi Freddie and Zuzana,

I traveled in Naples and Sicily a few years ago and had a similar experience. If you go to Palermo and need a place to stay, contact Giorgio of Giorgio’s House. He is a dear wonderful kind person and has good prices for a B&B. http://bed-and-breakfast-palermo.giorgioshouse.com/index.htm

I saw you looking at the nuts in the hotel room. If you eat anything provided by the hotel you could pay DEARLY! Rarely is anything free.

If you go back to Naples, try to go to the Cappella Sansevero. There is a sculpture there called “Veiled Christ” that is the most stunning piece of sculpture I have seen in all of Europe. Truly incredible. Another sculpture in the same chapel, “Despair” is almost as stunning.
    http://www.ricksteves.com/plan/destinations/italy/sansevero.htm

Love you guys. Have an awesome time in Sicily.

  • Shannon L.

    Hi Zuzana and Frederick.
So, what exactly happened on the ferry that made you guys feel so uncomfortable? Where there just some really weird people on there?
Im glad things started to look better after you got to your hotel room. The both of you looked “tore up from the floor up” and ready for some well needed sleep.
I can’t wait to see your next video showing all the places you go to in Sicily.
Oh and yes I am still doing my workouts… I can’t go with out doing them for more than 3 days at the most because I start to feel like poop!

  • Groovy granny

You can call Giorgio, (see earlier comment about B&B in Palermo)

    TEL/PHONE
    0039 091525057
    0039 3472214823

He will pick you up at the train station, no charge.

  • Groovy granny

Tell Giorgio Judy from Seattle sent you. If he has no space, he will do his best to help you get a room.

  • Sabrina

It looks very beautful and I can’t wait for more workouts!!
I have a question concerning rest days. What would be concidered an active rest day?

  • http://www.drstockstad.com Dr. Mathew

I have really enjoyed your trip and insights you share. You are both very brave to wing your trip like you have done. I am looking forward to doing something like that myself with Christine after 3 kids are off on their own. 2 more years and then we can do something like that. Hey if you want another place to visit we live in Asheville NC. It is one of the most beautiful places in the world they say. We have room!
Look forward to your conclusions for your trip.
    All the best!!
    Mathew

  • Robert

    Hey guys!
Nice to see you went to Sicily. Did you go to Taormina? I was there some years ago, nice old city in the mountains. I was only there over the day though.

  • Roq

    Hey guys,

The Crossfit competition was this last weekend. You could watch the competition live at http://live.crossfit.com/ . Now it’s possible to watch Saturday and Sunday. I have been watching some now. I’m pretty sure this would interest you. They are going through some grueling workouts and they don’t know what they are supposed to do until shortly before the workouts begins. There are some amazing athletes out there!! …..and a few workout ideas :-D

  • Riley

Italy looks amazing! My brother-in-law is from Venice and my sister and their kids go over there every summer for a few weeks, they are actually there right now. I feel like I’m there too thanks to your videos. I never realized how great it looks, especially Capri.

I have been choosing one of the home workouts each day for the last two weeks now and I’m looking noticeable leaner, I think it’s due to really pushing beyond what I thought were my limits!

  • Stephy

What happened on the ship that freaked you two out?

  • Sophie Edmundson

Plz go to Massa Lubrense and go get the best pizza in the world!! its the cutest little town! its right next to Sorrento in Naples and close to Capri!

  • Isis

    Hi
wao :0 is seen to be a great experience, I hope you gays tell us how much you spend for a trip like that at the end? I wish to go too and I would like to know how much I have to save (zuzan how much for the ice cream?) looks huge and tasty.
Well thank you to share it, keep having fun..

  • Alina

I really enjoyed all the videos of your Italian trip, it’s cool that you have included various moments, not just the most glamorous ones, makes it a lot more real. I also noticed how even though it’s a vacation, you guys are still aware about food choices, it just shows how much it has to be a part of the mentality, lots of people probably wouldn’t even think twice about eating whatever – it’s a vacation. So, again, I am finding out that it’s not just about the exercise or eating good most of the time, it’s really being more aware about consequences of what we put in our body, it has to become a part of my mentality. Too many times I have found myself saying that it’s ok, I can eat whatever on the weekends. I guess it just goes to show you, that every little thing matters.

  • Salma

    Hi!

I miss seeing new workouts although I’m really enjoying watching your trip to Italy. My husband and I have been to Rome, Naples, and Sorrento but never made it to Sicily…can’t wait to see your Sicily video.

This week I did a 5 day challenge and I picked some of your new adn really old workouts since I never tried them before. Here are the ones I did:

    Day 1: Best Ripped Abs
Day 2: Tight Summer Booty (I have a new 20 pound Kettlebell!)
Day 3: Tone, Trim, and Tight (this was a hard and long one!)
Day 4: 20 min workout challenge
    Day 5: Fierce Workout

I’m taking today and tomorrow off…I’m pretty beat! Your site has been an awesome motivator and by the way I doubt you gained any weight! Freddy, I don’t think you gained weight either…both of you still look great so enjoy as much gelato and delicious Italian food before you come back!

  • Mickela

i am actually glad you two are slacking and eating pizza and ice cream. I have been working out like an animal. I also started swimming at the local pool, it is really great and it cools me off, the heat in NYC is brutal right now.

  • Michael

You guys are troopers. Some of those journeys must be exhausting-it’s fun going along though so thanks for sharing.

  • Charlie D.

I hope you guys are enjoying your vacation. I have found it a little difficult to stay motivated with no new workouts posted, so I’ve been coming up with my own – here’s today’s – it was pretty intense, but not at all impossible.

Get a deck of cards. Divide into 4 piles of 13 cards (two will have 14 because you’ll leave the jokers in). Set a timer for one minute. Before you start the cards, bear crawl around the room for the minute. Then do the first pile. Red cards are standard pushups, blacks are full squats with a tip-toe stand-up. Do the number of reps it says on the card. Aces are one, face cards are 10, jokers are 50 grape-stompers (stand up completely straight and march in place, touching your thigh to your chest each time. For the second joker, put your hands on your head and life your legs to the sides, touching your knee to your upper arm.) No breaks. After the first pile, do mountain climbers for a minute. After the second, high knees. After the third, crab walks. After the last one, exploding v-ups (like a crunch but everything straight, unless it hurts your back).

It took me 28 minutes. Enjoy!

  • Stania

    Hi Zuzi and Frederick
I hope you are OK long time didn’t have new up date from you.Perhaps you have lot of fun.I can’t await for new work out.
    Cao Stania

  • Mike

    Ehehe
Guys, that train line is probably the most slow and crappiest in Italy.
Unfortunately in Italy the quality of services is very very low compared to what we pay on our side with taxes. Moreover in southern Italy things are way worst because of the various mafia’s and corrupted politicians.
We have the best country in the world, managed by the worst politician of the world…

  • Victoria Randles

When will you be back in Canada?

  • Iris

Hey Zzuzana and Frederick, hope you are having a lot of fun …hope to hear from you again soon….I am curious in which place in Italy you are now….enjoy your holiday!!!!
