Bikini Beach in Sicily

Hi Guys,

Sorry that we have missed you these past few days – we have been traveling non-stop from Sicily to Rome again and now back to Canada. We didn’t have internet along the way so we were not able to get our latest travel videos up.

We had an amazing time in Sicily – a lot of swimming, eating and eating :) The last part of our Italian adventure was very relaxing, but we did manage to pick up on some tips that we would like to share with you.

Over the course of our trip we stayed in 5 different hotels – ranging from 2 stars all the way up to a 5 star “luxury” hotel. What we learned is that if you are traveling to actually explore the area that you are visiting then a 2 star hotel is all that you really need. We used our hotels as pitt-stops – places to change, shower and sleep between getting out there and experiencing as much of the local culture as possible. A 2 star hotel covered the basics and allowed us more money to spend on the experiences of being in Italy vs. spending money on a room. The other interesting thing was that the vibe and energy in the 2-3 star hotels was actually more interesting. The 5 star hotel was really stuffy and everyone there had their noses up in the air the whole time. From the pool deck at our 5 star hotel we could see down to the pool area of a 3 star hotel just down the hill. The people at the 3 star were laughing and having fun – it looked like a party – the people at our 5 star hotel were lounging around the pool like they were at a funeral. It was all just too “snooty” for our taste. Don’t buy hotel stars – save your money for experiences – especially nice food. We have actually had better experiences renting short term apartments then staying in hotels. You get much more privacy and space and more of the experience of actually living in the area that you are visiting. Apartments tend to be cheaper than hotels, but they do require advance booking so you will have to plan ahead.

Speaking of food – there were a few times that we tried to cut some corners by eating cheap food from fast take out style restaurants – even if it meant a slight savings. What we can tell you is that every single time we were disappointed with the food. We found that in Italy you can eat really great food in tiny little restaurants that are tucked away down little streets and alley ways. These traditional italian restaurants don’t cost an arm and a leg and you get an authentic dinning experience that is always unique. When you are on vacation, and especially when it’s somewhere like Italy where they live and breathe food, you have to treat each meal as a celebration and an opportunity to experience something unique. The worst feeling comes when you are paying the bill for a meal that you felt lukewarm about at best, and when you realize that for just a few dollars more you could have had something incredible.

We have a few more travel videos to share with you guys now that we are back – and we will be starting again with new home workouts and new diet and recipe videos inspired by our trip to Italy so check back for those updates as well.

  • Frankie

hey guys. love the new video. when your scooter died and you had to climb the hill, where was that? what was the town called at the top of the hill? im glad your trip to italy was a success. its one of my favorite places in the world!

  • Angie

Hello, great to heare from you again! I think i speak for a few people that we had missed your videos.

  • LauraHapper

Hi Zuzana and Freddie! I agree with the comment about staying in a 2 or 3 star hotel rather than a 4 or 5 star. But, you guys should check out homeaway.com !!! It’s great for saving money AND staying at a apartment can alloy you to cook your own meal with fresh and traditional ingredients! so you can have a more real experience when you stay at a new location and have the opportunity to save money with breakfast!

    Sending love from Puerto Rico,

    Laura <3

  • Michael

Wow-Italy is amazing!!! Those are some serious hills you were climbing. It brings me to a point that I’ve been trying to figure out how to make. When you were climbing that hill it really knocked you out (of course..it was steep and took awhile),the point is that “what ever you train is what you get”…meaning that while short ,intense workouts have their place in any training cycle it is important to also do differant types of traing (longer duration, varying intervals etc)because if you don’t cycle things you will get in a rut and cease to progress….variety is the key. Keep up the good work.

  • Ashley P

Bald you guys made it safely back home.

  • AKH

    Please let’s work out!

  • Leslie-Anne

You two look like you’re having so much fun in italy!! Makes me wanna take my hubby there! Enjoy the rest of your trip! I look forward to more videos!

    xoxo

  • Angela

    Hi Zuzana, Hi Freddy!
Just want to let you know, that your videos are REALLY GREAT! Thanks for sharing!
    Best wishes, Angela

  • Red Fox

Hey F why were you wearing a SHIRT in the beach?? Don’t be shy, shirt off! ;)
Gosh I’m SO jealous of you two! I wish I could travel in some nice warm place and visit around the country. I never would have so much courage.
It’s nice that you guys share your trip with us. Have a nice holiday!

Aw, I missed you so much!

  • Ava

    Hi Zuzana & Freddie,
glad to see you guys back – with your next great video –
me and surely some of your other followers started to get a little worried not to see any new video these last
few days, since I’m sure u had to board one of those lovely ships to get back to the main land again ( i thought ) = same where you made the ‘scary vid’ – where u said you did not really feel too safe that night getting to Sicily… ; )
and Freddie’s comment like – ‘people do disappear from cruise ships’….:( — well good, you guys are alive and safe and actually out and had fun ; ) in Sicily — another nice video
    —- welcome back

  • Dawn

All that italian food and gelato and Zuzana looks thinner, LOL.Must be all the walking;) So glad you guys had fun!! You two are so adorable together:)

  • Ava

ps: I see Freddie or you did not get too irritated about your ‘flat’ on the scooter and not being able to get in contact
with the rental place in charge…. and instead that hot, steep climb back up — you 2 did real good!! So how did u guys end up working that problem out? ( – did u get your money back
or a 2nd day of a scooter, free?)

  • Heather

    Zuzana,
In order to have ascended that hill in record time, you REALLY should have just put sweaty Freddy and his 80 lb. pack on your back…If nothing else, it would have given Freddy ample energy reserves for his bed-hurling techniques;).

  • A

Two Monkeys jumping on the bed! ;) You two crack me up, i was laughing so hard watching this!

Vaycay looks amazing, thank you so much for sharing your trip with us!

    :) love fr waterloo, ON

  • Mickela

So glad you are back to torture us. I have been keeping up with my workouts. getting good with the pistols. While you were away I made my own workouts out and I also started going over some of the really hard workouts to see my improvement. I am also swimming and I really am happy with the results am getting.
Diet is so important, at first it is hard to get used to the routine of watching what I eat and making sure I carry snacks with me so I don’t end up binging because of hunger.
Really enjoying watching you enjoy your vacation.

    Cheers

  • Peter

wow I’m soo jealous Italy look beautiuful…but I want to know what happened with the scooter???

  • Gaby

lol u are so funny, I loved the whole video but the ending was the best.. you look like two kids =) love it!!

“Don’t buy hotel stars – save your money for experiences…”

Well said! I think this is also true for more than hotel stays. Living simply allows for more time and money to be spent experiencing the globe.

At home this could mean a charming picnic at a beautiful park with friends versus the pricey visit to a local restaurant. Half-way around the world it’s — as you write — “laughing and having fun” versus “lounging around the pool like…at a funeral”. Sometimes spending less (maybe a lot less) leads to a richer experience!

    Thanks for sharing yours!

  • Yvette

I’m glad you two were still able to walk up all those steps. Just think of it as a workout :) Enjoy your trip and hopefully we see new workout videos from you!

  • lyd

    jajajajja the last part… sillyyyy´s

  • Mila

mwaaa Zuz.. Awesome! Luv your videos, just keep up the good work:)) Your are great, watch U all the time ! Cheers!

  • Melinda

Michael: dehydration will do that to you. I went on a similar hike in hot weather and felt totally exhausted after like 10 minutes because I didn’t have water. I felt dizzy, and sick to my stomach. I went back with 2 bottles of water and I had no problems at all (other than still being hot and sweaty).

  • haitham27

    Italy is amazing

  • shaysa

thanks for the wonderful tour of italy..you’ve totally made me start an italy jar! You guys “rock”! Can’t wait til you kick my butt in a new workout! You have changed my life in so many ways. Thank you Thank you Thank you!!!!!!!!

  • B.M

Wow gorgeous views:) Glad you guys had a great time in italy and are now back in canada. Yay Canadians!

  • http://greekfeaster.blogspot.com Rhea (Greek Feaster)

I’m so happy for you guys! You will remember this trip forever, I think.
I loved the Vespa videos, too. Weeeeeeeee!!

  • Alteredstory

I can testify to that, actually. I was in Tanzania and hiked Mt. Meru with a few other people, some of whom did sprints and other interval training for basketball and sports, and certainly looked better than me. I was about 30lbs overweight but has spent the summer backpacking, and not only was I the first to reach the top, I had an easier time of it the whole way up.

That being said, the bodyrock “system” has been excellent for changing my metabolism – I’ve been doing about three weeks steady (sporadic before that) and I’ve lost weight and kept it off even when I give in to food cravings on occasion. I’m also feeling better.

  • Cathy

What a wonderful experience! Thanks for sharing it with us. I started to worry for a while there since we didn’t hear from you. Now that I know that your safe I guess I can tell you what I was thinking….I hope there not sleeping with the fishes! They did go to sicily! My husband laughs since he’s an italian with family from that region.

Well you made me feel like I was there with ya. You really should be getting a huge paycheck for all you do guys. Your worth it!!!!!

  • Kristina

I just wanted to say thank you for sharing your advantage with us. It was a lot of fun to fallow your posts. Looking forward for your new trips.

  • Paul

OMG! Freddy I used to do the same thing on the bed. That is sooo hilarious. I died laughing.

  • http://www.ivomarketing.com George Boyle

    Hello Frederick and Zuzana,

Awesome video! I really enjoyed all the videos of Italy.
Thank you for sharing your lives with all of us. I’m going to throw myself on the bed like you guy’s were doing. I have a great spaghetti sauce recipe that will make your home smell like an Italian restaurant. It has thirteen different spices. It’s a recipe that’s been in the family since 1955. Let me know and I will post it.

    Bye!

  • Évy

    Hey guys,
it is a pleasure to have news from you :)
What happened finally with the scooter? (bad luck!…often happens while on a trip hey!)
The part when you jump on the bed was so funny :P ahah

Hey I’m going to finish my first week of workout (your summer fit 6 weeks program) and I’m just so proud and encouraged! I already can feel a difference in my muscles and my cardio. (wow…well, I did your work-out in am and 20-30 min. cardio in pm to maximise it :) – I like it when it’s intense!-

Thank you so much for sharing with us ;)
    PS. You’re from Toronto? …

    @+

  • http://sxeanleedavid.z1space.com Sxean

OMG, you’re living my dream lifestyle. Oh Zuzana, marry me.

  • Leo

Hey! I’ve missed your work out videos. But it is good to see you two are enjoying Italy! That hill looked intense! Good going Freddy, you pushed your way through! Us men don’t quit haha. Michael has a good point on his comment about changing up the work outs every there and then from high intensity and low. Studies show high intensity work outs make it easier to do low intensity work outs for longer periods of time. And doing low intensity work outs, will make it very difficult to do high intensity. I love your work outs and look forward to every new one I watch!

    -One love from Coquitlam, Canada

  • Nicole D Lopez

    Such a cute video :)

  • Langly

hahaha, Freddy I so use to do the arm body throwing of myself onto my big beds,….greatest fun ever as a child hahah.

Zuzana Clearly did not know how to do it, hahah.

Also, Zuzana, Last I saw Freddie was carrying the big orange backpack, not you :P. Us men alweays having to carry the ladies luggage. Geessshhhh.

    hahah,jk jk,
Looks like you guys had a great time. Loads of fun, made my non-spectacular vacation seema bit better haha.

  • Monya

    Hey guys!

Unbelievable Sicily! I have went there for my first holidays with my boyfriend four years ago. We are getting married this Sept. ;) We are both sportsman. He’s a basketball player and I used to play professional tennis.
Anyway. I love your workouts (obviously) and I think it’s really great you took some time off for yourself :)

If you are still around Taormina- you should definitely try LA ISOLA BELLA… very cool beach place with a cute, kind of secret island :)

    Enjoy!

  • Iris

Hey you 2,such a nice video….I am planning to do a similiar trip to Italy like yours in October-inspired by you guys….can you please give some more tips where to go and so on?Would be great!!!

  • Stacey B

You guys are cute and funny! Zuzana I laughed out loud when you turned the camera onto yourself and said “guys can’t do anything.” and then with a real badass tone “It’s up to us…to kick your butt”-funny!
Is it weird to want to hang out with people Ive never met? Probably! Oh well, I like you two anyways, so hopefully we run into each other traveling the world. Keep being awesome-and funny!

  • Sandra

Very excited for all the new videos! Am really loving following your trip to Italy and am quite excited to see what’s in store for the Italy inspired diet and recipes. Glad you guys are back!

  • http://www.drstockstad.com Dr. Mathew

Welcome back and the amazing thing that you guy did was to document your vacation for memories sake. I wish I would have thought to do this on my vacations. Hey what camera do you use. The quality is fantastic.

  • Amanda A

I’ve been doing your older workouts consistently each day and I am shocked at how much of and effect I can feel/see in my body! (how can that be at 15-20 min/day when I’ve worked out in the past for 60 a day and seen less!) I didn’t expect to see much for awhile because I am only 110 lbs (but i need to increase my muscle tone greatly). Today is day 6 and I am so glad I have been consistent, for me this is the key!! I love the Italy videos. It looks like a great trip and you two are adorable. :)

  • http://www.naughtyweds.com MrsNaughtywed

Hey Guys! It looks like you are both having so much fun. I love these videos, they are so cute!

Liked your comment about the 2-3 star hotels. I came up to the same conclusion and actually I am on a quest to go even lower. I found it perfect to stay in 1 star and even not rated hotels in the following countries: Spain, Italy and Greece. For even more adventure for your next trip check out http://www.globalfreeloaders.com or http://www.couchsurfing.org or http://www.stay4free.com. While in Taormina did you guys go to Castelmola? Welcome back, I am sure that a lot of people missed you.

  • Anita

I totally agree with your tips. We traveled in the top half of the boot and found that it’s definitely the tucked away little places that provide and unforgettable authentic experience. The Mona Lisa restaurant in Venezia… amazing.

Italians are very warm people, but also very passionate, which can be good or bad.

Thanks guys for taking us on your trip. It’s genuinely been fascinating. And a lot of the time (esp. Rome where we managed to pay €6 for an instant coffee) I could so identify with your ‘italian’ experience.

Although it’s like that wherever you go. Down here in Marbella, we can take you to some real local gems that we’ve only discovered because we made a point of digging in the small streets and going where the locals go. You can get free food as long as you order a drink (which is only €1.50)…

But as a tourist a person will never discover those places and will most likely fall prey to the tourist industry.. I guess it’s part of the experience :)

You looked like you had loads of fun though…

  • haitham27

    made it safely back home.

    Hi Frederick and Zuzana,

Doesn’t Sicily have mobile scooter repair services? They would have fixed the tire in less time than it took you two to walk to your hotel I would think. 8-)

I’m both sad and glade you back. Italy seems over all a wonderfully nice place.

    Take care,
    –Chris

  • Claudia

Hey Guys!!! Glad to see you are okay, I think I was actually starting to worry about you….lol
Anyhow, those helmets were so funny looking. They reminded me of ¨The Great Gazoo¨ You guys are way to young to remember this little character from the Flinstones, so here is a link. And actually Freddy, you really reminded me of him….lol Enjoy!!

Opravdu skvely videa. Dokazete cloveku skutecne priblizit atmosferu. Hned bych frcela taky:)

You guys are awsome, love the travel videos. Cant wait for a new workout!!!

  • Hampton Sailer

I just got back from a trip to Egypt, and I agree, the 2-3 star hotels are much more authentic, and interesting. Staying in a big 5 star Western Hotel is just like living in America, what’s the point? Experiencing the local culture is what its all about. Glad you had a great time, and keep those travel tips coming.

  • Kristina

I just think that it is so cool that you back packed every where in Italy. I am so glad that you shared this experience with all of us. I found myself smiling and laughing right along with you while viewing your videos of this experience. Thank you!

  • tara

you guys look like your having an incredible time! ill be doing what your doing in a couple months…. hopefully ill see some of the places youve been to. im gonna backpack europe and spend a little extra time in rome and sicily. your videos of this trip are getting me so excited for it. i wanna see that fountain where you had some wine and shot the breeze with the locals!!! haha sux about you scooter lol

  • Mary Liz

    Welcome home!!!!

  • http://ozziepossum-diyhealthfitness.blogspot.com/ ozziepossum

I totally agree with you guys regarding accommodation. I’ve done a lot of overseas travel and the majority of the time I’ve stayed in cheap hotels or hostels.

I travelled alone so it was kinda nice to meet up with other travellers. And you’re right, all you need is a place to sleep, dump your stuff and a place to shower. There’s no point spending a fortune on a hotel room when you plan to “get out there” and experience the culture!

Glad you guys had a great time. Looking forward to more videos!

Hi George – I’m sure everyone would like to check out your recipe – post away!

  • Rachel

I loved your travel videos and can’t wait to see what the rest of them are, but I’m jonesing for some new workouts! Can’t wait!
And I’d also like to add that I agree with Michael who made the comment about the importance of endurance training as well as the short burst. But let me also say that while I have endurance trained for years with marathons and triathalons, I still have seen the biggest change in my body after adding in your workouts to my routine. I’m not doing long distances anymore, but these days I’m still keeping in great shape by working out 4-6 days a week and only doing one of your 12 minute routines some days. Variety IS the key, which is just another reason why I love your creative workouts.

  • Douglas

Looks like you guys had a lot of fun. Your safe so thats cool, welcome back!

Hi there, my comment has got nothing to do with this item, but I just think it is too funny not to mention…
Scientist Alpa Patel has run a research on the influence of nmber of hours of daily sitting on the duration of a persons life… It turns out that a person who do tend to sit more than 6 hours a day live much shorter than persons that only sit for a duration of 3 hours….

I remember you once told us that sitting is bad for your butt, at least for the shape of it.

But here you have yet another reason to skip sitting as much as possible….

    Isn’t that funny?

So, naturally, I am typing this message while walking around :-)

    Cheers,
    Daphne

I agree with hotel tips. That’s we do too when we’re on travel. Save your money for adventure. Hotel is just a place to rest and sleep.
Thanks for showing us your travel. Love it!

  • Debra

I went to Taormina this summer too and I agree that there is so much to do that a five star hotel is not necessary. My bf and I actually stayed at a hostel in Giardini Naxos and it was very clean! We ended up going to the beaches in Naxos too, coincidentally, and liked the localism. Taormina is just very expensive, and I can agree that it is a workout to walk that far (we did too because we missed buses). Would you say that the food in Italy is the best? I’m just curious because you have travelled so much. I was in Italy for a month and exercised but did not lose any weight…because even though the food is healthy ingredients sometimes the courses can be way too much! So now I am back in the states and on a very strict diet. I love your recipes, can you make a video where you show everything you eat in a day? Because I am trying to do that, but its hard. Maybe you could show how you plan out all 6 of your meals. Thank you guys!

    Hi Zuzana and Freddy,

You guys are a 2 people reality show…and more fun to watch than most of the others on TV. You write, act, direct, film and produce the show all by yourselves…and there’s more “reality” in your videos than there is in most of the other shows on TV. Congrats.

Glad you had a good trip. Watched most of the videos and enjoyed them all. I felt like I was there with you but, unfortunately, I never got to taste all of that good food. :-(

    Welcome home.

Hi Zuzana! I definitely agree to what you learned that all you need is a 2 star hotel if your purpose in traveling is really to explore the area.

  • Jojo

    :D Hell Yeah!!!!!!!
I got so excited that I found your website!
I’m extremely thin (42 kgs-170 cm) 25 years old girl and have never did a single workout in my life. Have friends that are fitness instructors and martial arts teachers but no one could ever make me do a single stretch.Back in school the only classes I ran away from were P.E. Until recently I started thinking about workouts as I look anorexic tho I eat a lot, a lot.
But for the first time in my life I feel crazy over doing it! And you are outlining everything in such a nice way, you are constantly updating information, you are extremely sexy, sweet crazy names, quality photos, videos, everything is soooooooo perfect!!!
I can’t wait to browse your videos and start!Btw I’m from the Balkans.
The video that sparkled my interest is “Hot Celebrity Butts Workout”.

    My inspiration – YOU!

P.S. Just became a fan of your Life&Travel videos too :D!!!! You two are amazing!

  • Christina Taylor

You guys are so cute!! My husband is in Afghanistan and watching you two together makes me miss him so much. Love is beautiful huh? My surprise for him when he gets back is to get a nice and toned body like Zuzana.. You are my motivation! You two take care and be safe thanks for all the wonderful workout videos!
