Leaving for Vancouver British Columbia.

Hi BodyRockers,

So the day has arrived for us to leave our little farm house just East of Kingston. We have our truck all packed up and amazingly just about everything fit. We were suppose to leave first thing this morning at 6 am, but we were up really late packing and we didn’t actually get up until 7am.

Then we discovered that poor Charlie had some kind of serious looking skin condition that required some attention. We took him into the vet when it opened and got him checked out. They were a bit at a loss for what was causing his rash, but they gave us a special shampoo, some cream and 3 weeks worth of anti-bioytics. One hour later we returned home to finish jamming the last of our things into the truck. It’s 2pm now and we are just about to hit the road.

Cali always gets a bit emotional when she senses that we are going to travel.

Things got a little bit messy in the kitchen. I took a break from packing last night and prepared a meal that we could take with us on the road in the cooler. It was so late by the time I finished that I just left everything all over the place. There were so many things in the kitchen that I wanted to take with me, but we just ran out of space.

This our cooler about half-packed. We have enough nice fruit and veggies for the first day or two.

Freddy packed our truck full. He is going to take the first driving shift. He bought a few best of the 80′s cd’s for us to listen to on the drive.

Our plan (as far as plans go) is to hit the road hard and push through as far west as possible without stopping until we get into the second day. We will see how far we can get before we have to pull off the road. When we do hit a hotel we are planning on doing a workout there if possible and getting it up on the site before we get going again. In any case we will be taking lots of pictures and making videos as we drive across Canada so check back in for that. Also we will be publishing more of your submitted pictures as we go.

Ok, now time to hit the highway :)

See you guys soon!

Zuzana & Frederick

P.S.

I am so excited for you guys to see my beautiful country. I was born and raised in Sault Ste Marie Ontario, you will pass through it.
I now live in Vancouver BC. It is so gorgeous here, as fitness buffs you will have to do the “Grouse Grind” it’s a hiking trail up the mountain and the view is breathtaking from up there. Also there is a restaurant and a gondola if you get tired and can’t hike back down, (ya right!) Enjoy the drive guys, I am excited for you.

PS, The prairies are very flat and boring but the Rockies are worth it.

  • Adrian

Will you be passing through Toronto at all?

  • Tyler Robertson

It’s awesome you’re heading to Vancouver. I live around the area (both ends really). There’s a couple of hikes you should hit up The Grouse Grind, and the Stawamus Chief ( in Squamish).

Vancouver is beautiful. Have fun and good luck.

  • Liz

Hey guys ur trip sounds like lots of fun. I’ve always wanted to go to B.C, I’ve lived in Canada my whole life and never been there. I don’t kno how you guys move so much must get hard on ya making a home for ur self and then up rooting. It does sound interesting tho new scenery, new things. Enjoy ur trip! One question wondering if you guys only do this fitness website to make money or do u guys have other jobs? If ya do just curious how u guys make ur money since when zuzana shops its usually quite expensive. I really like whatclothes and things she buys just also wondering where to find cheaper versions. Thanx again enjoy the road trip!

  • Christie

I’m sorry to hear about Charlie, my dog had a skin problem and we found out that is was caused by some of our cleaning products that we were using.

  • Bridget

Have a great trip! Can’t wait to see the videos of your journey!

  • Stephanie

Wow Vancouver now! Thats where I am! The weather is beautiful, you should do a work out on the beach! Its always so much harder in the sand :) Cant wait for your next work out!

  • Megan

Good luck with you travels! I want to thank you for the incredible inspiration you are for me!!! It seems nearly everyone who posts says so but it is so true! Never in my life did I think a workout at this level was possible for me. I am not strong enough yet to do “boy” pushups on my feet instead of on my knees. Do you have any advice for how to transition to doing them on my feet? I have a husband and three young children, and so following you two and your life of travel is a lot of fun. Keep it up and enjoy!

  • Mike

    Im excited for you guys!!!

  • sunny

Hi guys, sounds exciting that you guys are gonna be on the road. Actually, I HAVE A QUESTION FOR ZUZANA, (sorry for the caps! just wanted to catch your eyes on this. ;) ) hopefully you’ll have time to read my question and reply back to me. :) I’ve been following your work-outs since March and it’s been doing wonderful things to my body and my overall mood as well. I’ve been doing your exercises six times a week for the last 6 months. And today, I found out that I’m pregnant and I was just wondering myself if it’s still safe for me to continue to do your workouts. I’ve asked nurses today what types of exercises are okay during pregnancy and they just told me that as long as it’s not too strenuous it should be okay, but I’m still unsure what’s considered strenuous for the baby. I know that you are a certified fitness trainer, maybe you have some advice on fitness during pregnancy? I really hope that you could get back to me on this. Thanks and I love your workouts.

  • http://www.sweetsaltyspicy.net/ Charlie

Wow! It seems like the you talked about your decision of doing a road trip yesterday! Have fun!

  • funkybumpkin

    Hey guys!!!

Very exciting! You will LOVE Vancouver. It’s beautiful and it’s very outdoorsy. Lots of great hiking, kayaking, biking, etc.

I love Vancouver and would love to either give you tips on where to eat (lots of yummy veggie places), what to do, etc.

You have to do the Grouse Grind. It is a killer hike, but it’s very close to the city. Gorgeous views on top. Plus, you can take the Gondola down ($10) if you don’t want to hike down. Everyone dies the first time.

Email me if you ever want a tour.

    Lisa

  • Fadja

You’re moving to Vancouver?? Nooooo! I feel like you’re my friend in my head and I liked that you were not too far from me (I’m in Toronto… well Ajax). My husband and I go to Montreal often (born and raised there) and usually stop at Kingston to change our 18 months old son’s diaper and have our 3yo daughter use the bathroom, and I’m always kind of hoping to see you (but we usually stop at McDonalds so not much hope there).

Anyways, I just want to thank you for the inspiration and motivation. I “met” you in April with “Body On Fire”. I’ve always been fit but after having 2 kids, I kind of let myself go. When I used to workout at the gym, I would mostly lift weight and I would get too muscular. But since I’ve been working out with you, I like how toned my arms, my abs and my legs are. Thank you again and have a safe trip to Vancouver!!

  • PF

    HAHAHA!!!!
I had to comment on Cali’s face
    that’s a total dog-cartoon moment
    that’s absolutely hilarious.
What a cutie. Dogs have so much personality.

  • PF

oh and I wanted to add that I’ll be praying for your charlie! My dog had a really bad rash/infection on his face on both sides. It was so scary. but my mom put some… “pomada” (not sure how it is in English…) and used disinfecting solution and he got better in a couple weeks. Thank God…
    I bet he’ll get better :)

  • Natasya

That’s great u will show us Canada.
When u were in Czech I was hoping u will post more about your country.
Last week when me and my boyfriend were at sea in Croatia we meet some crazy nice Czech people and we were thinking that next week will go and visit Slovakia and Czech.
If will have time to go am gonna send u some pictures.

Have fun at the road and good luck

    Hi,

I just read about Charlie and can’t stop myself from replying. I have 3 dogs myself and they all had troubled skin one time or another. Vets always give antibiotics without knowing the real problem. In the end they start giving prednison. So maybe this helps. My dogs are free from any kind of skin problem for over 4 years because we started giving them fresh, raw dog food. Yes the stuff wolfs eat. It’s the best. This site is from somebody in Canada. http://www.totallyrawdogfood.com. All the best and have fun on your cross country trip.

Vancouver BC is a great place. My family lives in oregon and go up there quite a bit to visit friends, you have to check out the saltwater pool where they swim laps, its like 130 meter long! I did Ironman Canada in 2007 and loved it!!! good people up there. have fun!!! great website.

  • Anna

    Hi Zuzana and Fred
Good luck on your yourney ! I am sorry to hear that Charlie has some skin problems. My dog has the same thing every year, his vet always gave him antibiotics, creams but it never worked for a long time. Until I changed his diet for First Mate Pacific Fish – with this dry food his skin condition improved within 1 week and now he is in the best condition and he seems to have more energy and is happier es well. I believe the problem are the ingredients in the most pet food, you should look for safe and clean pet dry food

  • JP

I absolutely love your videos! I’m from BC and just moved to Ontario actually. Not sure if you’ve been there before, but you would love it!!!

  • Maya

I have to agree with Anna. First Mate is the best thing you can feed your dog with. My golden retriever had also problems with her skin, we were desperate but finally we discovered this dry foot and we, especially my dog, are happy now. I really recommend :-)

  • Sofia

You two are going to LOVE Vancouver! I am going to be there about 2 weeks from now. Have you heard of the Grouse Grind?? It’s definitely on my “must do” list, as well as outdoor yoga by the beach, and lots of other hiking and possibly paddleboarding =] I think you’ll see very quickly how fitness oriented the city is and fall in love just as I have. It is, after all, the birthplace of Lululemon ;D

  • Yelena

Ok, please let us know when you’re down in San Francisco so I can accidentally run into you guys! haha =D

Awesome guys! Hope you have a safe trip! Enjoy!

  • Megan

Hey Zuzana, I was just reading your post from the other day where you said to be exhausted at the end of your workout. Sometimes I am exhausted half way through the work out, should I try moderations or am I just pushing too hard? I try to keep up with your pace, maybe that’s too much? Thanks- Best wishes on your trip!

  • Canadian

    Hi Megan

Just keep trying..3-4 months ago I could barely do a regular push up either, and now I can do over 15! (with breaks in between, I can do even more!)
Anytime you exercise, start with regular pushups and then drop to your knees when you need to..even try doing a couple per day, and you’d be surprised how fast you’ll gain strength. Sometimes doing them when you’re already fatigued is most difficult, so try doing them when your fresh and ready!

    All the best ;)

  • victoria

    Good luck on your trip!
Hope you will enjoy your new house :)

  • Steff

Are you moving to BC or just on vacation?

  • DVM

It’s not that the ingredients in the pet food are “bad” or “unclean” or “impure”. Dogs and cats generally develop allergies from 2-4 years of age. Pets can develop allergies to many of the same things that people develop allergies to (pollen, foods, soaps, etc.) The most common food allergies in pets are to carbohydrates (like corn) and proteins (like chicken, beef, etc.). Pets are most likely to develop food allergies to the most common ingredient in their foods. For example most cats foods contain chicken, so cats (including mine!) can develop food allergies to it. Some pets develop allergies to corn BUT this does not mean that pets cannot receive nutrition from corn. Just like people, pets need many nutrients that most strictly meat diets do not contain. Keep in mind that in the wild, dogs and cats would eat the WHOLE animal (including the intestines) which would likely contain plant products– this is how they would obtain the nutrients that meat would not provide. Corn allergies can also be a problem for pets and people when the corn tassels during the summer (also in the case of my cat). It is also common for an animal to have allergies to many things if they have one allergy.

There are many great diets made that are allergy free. I suggest that anyone consult their veterinarian, but food allergies can be very tricky to diagnose. If you suspect a food allergy, a person might try switching to a food that does not contain the suspected offender. It might take several tries, so buy small bags first! Also, be very careful in checking labels because sometimes a food might be labeled beef but have chicken meal– which would still affect a chicken allergic animal. Basically, if your child had a peanut butter allergy you wouldn’t just buy a different brand of peanut butter expecting them to be ok with it. I had great success with my cat with Science Diet Duck and Green Pea. I know they make similar diets for dogs too.

Unfortunately, there are also several breeds of cats and dogs that are more prone to allergies (including Golden Retrievers and Bengal cats and many more)!

I saw immediate results in decreased itchy-ness and fewer open sores in the first week with my cat, but it might take longer than that to get rid of the affects from the original food. I know from personal experience it can be very, VERY frustrating, but it will be worth it to have a happy pet in the end! Good luck with your dog and your trip!

  • Tiffany Stephens

you guys be safe..here from you soon. You guys were 8 hrs away from our Ohio addr now you’ll be an entire day drive :0( Hope Charlie is better, poor Charlie.

  • Celina

    Hi Sunny,

    Congratulations on your pregnancy!

I’m not a certified fitness trainer, but I have done some reading on my own about exercise and pregancy since I am trying to get pregnant but want to remain fit.

During the first trimester you can maintain what you are used to doing. It’s normally not a good idea to increase the intensity. Things to keep in mind is avoiding overheating and staying well hydrated, and if you feel any pain, it’s probably a good idea to tone it down or stop. I’ve also read to keep the heart rate below 140 beats/min.

The big change will happen when you reach your second and third trimesters, where you will no longer be allowed to do exercises that require you to lie on your back, since the pressure will cut blood flow to the fetus.

Exercising while pregnant is very healthy and beneficial for both the mother and the baby.

  • Mayra

I always look forward to watching your videos. Thanks to you both, Zuzana and Freddy, for being so inspirational. You have such adorable puppy doggies :-)

  • sunny

Hi Celina, thank you very much for your advice. :) And I hope that you will soon hear a good news as well. Thanks again for your kindness.

Drive safe & look twice: you may be a safe driver but that doesn’t mean others are. Do you guys travel for work? Out if curiosity what are your careers? Last i checked Zuzana was preparing to become a fitness trainer

  • Rick

You have to do the Grouse Grind in North Vancouver and let me know how fast you two can do it in. It is a 2.9 kilometre hike up the mountain and is a very popular local fitness trek. Lookin forward to seeing the video of you two racing up the mountain.

    http://www.grousemountain.com/Winter/vancouver-bc-hiking-trails-trips/grouse-grind.asp

  • Karrie

Yeah, stop in Winnipeg! The legislative grounds would be perfect for a work out, if it ever stops raining!

  • Ken

I agree with Greg. You must stop in Winnipeg and make a video. It would be cool to actually meet you guys. Have a safe trip. :)

  • SAR

YAY Can’t wait for you two to arrive here in BC!!!

Safe travels on the Trans Canada. Lots of yahoos out there driving around. If you have never been out this way before, then the Rocky Mountains are going to blow your mind. I just hope for sunny days while you’re driving through. For 6 hours west of Calgary, the scenery is stunning.
You two will have a place to stay in Revelstoke if need be. Nice little town that I call home. Let me know!

  • Georgia1

I was just in Vancouver Saturday and it was great! Make sure to go to Stanley Park and bike around it!

  • RDH

Also enjoy the Seawall…biking, walking, or running =)

  • Vanessa

    Hi Zuzana and Freddy,

The Grouse Grind is definitely one of the most challenging activities to do in Vancouver. I would call it the ultimate stair master, and most people time themselves!

I am so excited that you will be here in Vancouver, I just discovered BodyRock this summer and I am hooked! Happy traveling!

  • TS

Aw Kingston will miss you! My hopes and dreams of running into Z at Lululemon are dashed! Oh well, I’m also moving in a few weeks since I’m finally almost done at Queen’s.

    Enjoy the drive!!

  • Mary Liz

Wow, you’ll be driving really close to where I am… just south of Cranbrook.

Have a nice trip, the road from Ontario to B.C. is awful, so flat and LONG!!

If you come up to my neck of the woods in Penticton in the Okanagan… for a wine tour perhaps… you two are more than welcome to stay with us!

  • JoAnne Drew

You must hop the ferry and come to Vancouver Island. Once you see Victoria I’m sure you will want to shoot a video at the top of one of our local hills (Mt. Doug or Mt. Tolmie).
You might even want to check out some of the Gulf Islands!
People from all over the world choose Victoria because it’s paradise.
Thank you for your hard work, both of you!
