Our Active Rest Day – not active or restful!

Hi BodyRockers!

I hope that you enjoyed your ARD yesterday. Our plan was to drive to Vancouver, buy a new workout outfit, walk around the city all afternoon and take a lots of pictures. Instead of that, we spent most of the day in the car and on a ferry, because we just didn’t plan our trip properly. Who would guess that it would take hours and hours to get to Vancouver from where we live and that the traffic would be so brutal? Not only that, but we also had a hard time to find a parking spot – we must have circled around forever. By the time we got to Robson street  we had exactly 1 hour to spend in the City. We managed to run into the Nike store and buy new shoes then dash into Lululemon and score a new outfit – all in about 45 minutes. Freddy went to Footlocker and got a new pair of training shoes and before we could even look around the city we had to head back to the ferry dock so that we wouldn’t miss the last ferry back to Vancouver island. The traffic was just as bad on the way back and we just barely caught the last ferry of the day. By the time we got home we were both completely exhausted, but happy that we made it and didn’t have to stay in Vancouver over night. It was our first time in Vancouver and both Freddy and I loved it. It has a completely different vibe than any other Canadian city we have ever been to, and we both agreed it’s now our favourite :)

I stayed strong. This weeks challenge is NO SUGAR and JUNK FOOD! :( beee I really wanted to bite the one with chocolate, caramel and almonds.

Freddy snapped this picture while we were waiting for the ferry.

Unless my eyes deceive me, that was a Rocky Mountain Chocolate Shoppe! There’s one about a fifteen-minute drive from where I live. Admittedly, I’ve never tried any of their candy apples, but I’ve tried some nibbles of their chocolate before, which is quite good. Only now and then, though. :)

  • Shannon L.

I can’t wait to see your new outfit!

  • Kelsey

Looks like you guys had fun though ! Those candy apples do look awesome. Way to go Z ! I wouldn’t have been able to stay strong.. :)

  • Jessa

Try Victoria. Smaller than Van, but we do have a Lululemon!

  • nicole

go to kelowna … you will be in love.. its soooooooooo nice

  • Dana

:)) Beeeee…haha…partner nakoupil same laskominky pred jeho cestou dnes do Montrealu – ani jsem na jednu nesahla (on uz je na ceste, ale sladkosti jsou tady porad!)

  • audrey

you both need to understand living on the island!!
never take the ferry on a longweekend or a few days before. you can easily arrive at the ferry terminal only to find it is a 1-2 or 3 ferry sailing wait.unless you totally have to leave..stay put! if you want to spend the day shopping in the big city…take the bus.
long weekends in victoria are BUSY…don’t go downtown unless you love crowds and people wandering about aimlessly and the extra influx of street people, don’t drive around unless you can handle tourist traffic. if you are going to live here, you are going to have to learn the tricks of the locals.don’t get me wrong.. victoria is a great place to live, but ya gots to learn the tricks.
    have a great long weekend
    cheers

Hey guys don’t forget to do the grouse grind in north vancouver. Great workout and spectacular views at the top. I think the record is under 24 minutes for the climb.Good luck and welcome to vancouver.

  • Frederick

    Thanks for the advice!

  • Moni

I was down on Robson yesterday as well..would’ve been cool bumping into you guys(well, not literally..)Yes traffic and parking are a nightmare, you can pre purchase the ferry tickets online,or reserve a spot, which is a must around long weekends.Yes ferry is a pain, that’s why we haven’t been to the island in over 10 yrs…;(
Glad you’re enjoying the city, summers are spectacular here, hope the rainy fall doesn’t scare you away.Nice pics!

  • Moni

One more thing…in North Vancouver, there’s this place called Lynn Canyon, where you go across a swinging bridge and follow a short trail down to the river where you can watch a lot of people and kids jump off of cliffs…
Just watch out for another place like that called Capilano Suspension Bridge,it’s basically the sam ething but they charge you like $40 to go across…tourist trap!
Kali and Charlie would probably enjoy jumping from rock to rock and playing in the river.

  • Michelle C

so glad to see pictures of home! glad you guys like vancouver as your favorite city…parking in downtown vancouver is hard to find unless you’re willing to pay a lot for it!

come back and visit vancouver soon!

    No tak, to vydrzis! :)

  • Tracey

I miss that place sooooooooo much! Thanks for sharing the pics! I remember those candied apples too but was never game enough to try one..Next time though i will have to have another go :)

  • Lex

I love Vancouver too! Beautiful pics, thanks for sharing :)

  • George

Lynn Canyon is a great place for day hiking, but I believe the canyon has been filled in with gravel to deter cliff divers. Too many deaths in the past.
Victoria is also very bicycle friendly I hear. Lots of well laid out paths for commuting.
    Enjoy the lower Mainland. Welcome.

the best aktiv rest day activity for me is ::: jamming my playlist the loudest i can and trying to dance non-stop – you wont beleive how hard it is to last a couple songs!! in my teens i used to spend hours and hours dancing non-stop ( in the clubs :) where did it all go????? i really cant last more then 3 -5 songs.. :(( may be i need a drink!! :) joking, may be i need protein energy drink!!
another thing i like to do is go back to previous videos on bodirock.tv and just watch them all, trying to do some knew exercises , it’s amaising how there is always something knew even in the old staff, so i watch and try to learn, so i do a couple, you easy can spend 40 minutes doing just that!! thats your active part! + you get to use knew exercises!!! win-win!!

  • Virginea

Hey, I was visiting Vancouver a couple of weeks ago during one of their heatwaves. I ended up doing your workouts out on the sidewalk in front of our rental because it was just too hot inside the gym facility and our unit. That’s one of many reasons why I LOVE your sessions because they can be done anywhere!

  • Ckeith

I’ve lived in Vancouver my whole life and am downtown every weekend :D Email me anytime you’d like a tour, I’d LOVE to meet you guys face to face and show you around to the best shops, spots and eats!! I’m also a group fitness leader in North Vancouver if you ever want to take a Core class or something to switch it up :)

  • idorotka

    ah te sladkosti. ^^

  • Juliana

    Hi Zuzana and Frederick,

Vancouver has lots of parking garages and I’ve never had a problem walking a few blocks to get to places. But, then I usually hang out in the International District or at friends.

BTW, the site seems messed up in Firefox. Everything is black including text and most of the ads don’t show up.

Are you in Victoria? I live there!! Wow that’s so exciting to know that you are so close!
The ferry ride is just so long from downtown Victoria to downtown Vancouver but worth it ;)
And yes, there is a lululemon too in Victoria!

  • Alexandra

If you have time while staying in vic, try to do mt finlayson it takes about an hour and a half to complete (there and back) but its a good hike! Its about a 25-30 min drive from victoria depending where you are staying…
I really hope I run in to you, it was be so great to meet you two!!!
    Have fun on the island!

  • SC

So weird/cool seeing pictures of you guys in my hometown and knowing exactly where they were taken! I love this city too.
When you’re more settled in you should definitely take a longer trip to Van. Traveling to Vancouver from the island and back in 1 day really doesn’t allow you to see very much at all. There are hotels that are dog friendly so a weekend or week trip could be doable with Charlie and Cali :)
Hope to see you guys around next time you’re back in Vancouver!

  • LENA

yeah I miss the fashion hauls

  • Dragire

I must second the suggestion of you guys trying the Grouse Grind and going for a hike at Lynn Canyon, you will LOVE it!

  • elise

guys whats wrong with your site!? its won’t load properly! :(

  • Judith

    Hi Zuz and Freddy!

I just love Vancouver… I wish I could go soon because I never been. Hope you`ll have a rain forest hiking day one time for our AR!!… you have to made a video if you do so!!! Can`t wait for you Fashion Haul!!

  • http://www.bodyrock.tv/ Zuzana – BodyRock.Tv

We don’t know what is going on with the website yet, but trying to find out.

  • ana

  • asia

    Hey Guys,
where is Charlie and a little one (I’m sorry I forgot her name ;( )

    ale the best

  • Moni

Hey,no people are still jumping off rocks,I was there yesterday, guys are even jumping off and sliding down the waterfall, you can watch it from the Bridge…just crazy

  • Donna Prasad

GO to whistler, spend atleast a whole day in whistler, there’s lots of fun activities to do there! White water river rafting, hiking, mountain biking. (the olympic was up there too)

Another place to go for a nice walk is the seawall, or stanley park. You can cover seawall and stanley park since it is near eachother. The seawall is romantic, best to go on sunny days. Makesure you check the weather forecast!!

Goodluck and Enjoy your stay here in Vancouver <3
    love, Donna

  • Donna Prasad

West Vancouver is for rich people, :P My advice is live anywhere near the skytrain. Skytrain station is easy access to downtown vancouver AND its cheap!! :)

  • Susan

Hi Zuzana. I’ve lived here for 20 years and drove thru not stopped in Vancouver maybe 6 times. Victoria is small, quaint and has good shops on a smaller scale. You don’t have to go to Vancouver unless you like the crazyness. Victoria seems to fit your lifestyle.

  • Kenzo

    Hi Guys!

Please look into your website’s format. The words are all on top of each other and the black background is way too dark.

I do not want to miss anything!

    ;)

right click, select all makes it easier to read the entry till they get it fixed. It’s not perfect, but it’ll do.

  • Charlotte P

You guys should definitely check out the Squamish Chief hike at Shannon Falls (google it!). Getting up the mountain is indeed a challenge and the view from the top is a must-see while your here in Vancouver. Hope your enjoying your stay :)

  • Jasmine

Woah you guys! i was on the last ferry to vancouver island

  • Évy

…Always happy to have news from you guys ;)

Vancouvert really seems like a nice town!

…Can’t wait to see that new outfit you bought :P

Take care and be blessed ;)

  • Julia D.

My boyfriend and I have both been following your site for a while and absolutely love it! I’ve never commented until now that I see you’re in our neck of the woods. If you make it to Victoria, we’d be happy to show you around. And personally I think we have an excellent Lululemon =)

I’ve lived in Europe, Toronto, and Vancouver and I have to say that for me, Victoria still takes the cake!

  • Frederick

Jasmine – we were on that ferry too!
