Exercise Challenge – 1000 Skips

Hi BodyRockers,

This week we are introducing something new to the workout schedule. These mini exercise challenges are scheduled on the days in between our workouts on what is normally our active rest day. With everyone’s busy schedule it is not always possible to get out and be active on our active rest days. Freddy and I find that many times we get too busy with regular life running around to plan anything fun that would keep us moving. Exercise challenges outside of our regular workouts will make sure that you get up and move your body on a daily basis.

Zuzana

P.S. I am just about to make our dinner and do a video recipe for you guys. I will do my exercise challenge after we shoot the video and before my dinner. I will post my score later here.

My score for this challenge is 8 minutes and 6 seconds. I was tripping a lot so I think that if I practice the technique more often, I could do a lot better. What was your score?

  • Skipping With Jump Rope1000

Get your gear for this workout here:

Instructions:

Today’s exercise challenge is to complete 1000 skips with your jump rope as fast as possible. It is a free style skip so jump the way that is the most fun for you. Do this exercise challenge before your dinner, and enjoy the earned carbs :)

  • Laura

i love the idea of earning carbs, but sometimes its just so hard, especially when homemade bread is involved.
Do you have any suggestions, like tricks or things that might help keep us on track?
And do you have some good snack suggestions for people always on the go?
Also, should we avoid nuts and nut butters if we’re trying to lose weight?

  • Lada

    Great idea!

    Hi Zuzana…
    It’s so cool …

    Hi Zuzana and Freddy!

I just finished and my time was 7:31 (though I didn’t have a jumprope, so that may have affected the time a bit…) This was really fun to do before dinner!

    Thanks!
    Annie

  • Andyfeelgood

Funny …. I just had the same idea ! I ´m gonna do it RIGHT NOW!!!

  • Anonymous

not yet – sounds cool tho.

  • Andyfeelgood

fuck that´s a very long time! (only joking) it took me 13.13 min.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Mily-Miguel/592457099 Mily Miguel

I do my workouts in the balcony because we live in an apartment, now with the winter it is really hard for me to put my butt outside and to start the warm up…specially because I am from Mexico (so warm) and now I live in Holland (so cold) I am just not used to the temperatures. But no matter how cold it is, I always end up sweating so much after each work out!!!

  • Laliluramirez

Whoa! It was pretty fun! My score was 09:57..!
The classes should be back! :)
    Thank u,
    Have a great week

What an excellent idea! I often struggle on Active Rest days. I live in the mountains next to a National Park, but it’s been absolutely frigid and often snowy lately, so it’s hard to really get out and hike. I’m going to go do this right now!

  • Anda22

This is a really good idea !!!!!!!!

  • starjmom

Did it! Whoa! didn’t time it but think it was under 20 mins

  • Anonymous

This is an exellent idea !!!!!!!!!!

OOOO, this was for me more hard that normal workout, my time is 15 min 52 sec, never before I made skips and really is so power! Im not sure that want repeat this one more time other day jajajajaj

  • Kelly(:

I completed this in 8:42 with one water break in between, it was kind of a struggle. I think I’m going to do the challenges every morning and try to beat my score from the day before, this way I get a good workout before breakfast and can earn my piece of toast (:

  • Kaylyn_tytkanych

Done in a little under 10 mins. Thank-you so much for these challenges, I have no idea what to do for rest days. I live in Alberta in a relativly small town, so there is nothing to do and it’s cold outside. This challenge was great, I think I’m going to add skipping to my day everyday until I work off this weight. It feels like such an accomplishment because of how many reps you can do in a short amount of time!

  • Mark VK

    Hi Tamar,
I use a little trick when I have to do this many reps. I put 5 objects on the ground (they can be 5 of anything). I do 100 skips in front of object 1, then 100 in front of 2 and so on. When I get to object 5, I repeat at 5 and move back to 1. When you are done you’ve completed 1,000 skips.

  • reducehighimpactshock

    Hi Zuzana

These are very high impact exercises. Would they damage our knees in the long run? How do we cushion them in proper form?

Thank you for your dedication. I am an avid Bodyrocker :)

  • Mark VK

This was a fun challenge. My time was 6:10 with only 1 trip.
My calves were still sore from the one leg skips from last week. :)

A quick tip for Body Rockers. If you’re having trouble counting 1,000 reps, use this little trick. Put 5 objects on the ground next to each other (not too far apart) in front of the area you will be skipping. . Do 100 skip in front of object 1, 100 in front of object 2 and so on. When you get to object 5 reverse and when you’ve completed 100 skips at object 1 you’ve completed 1,000 skips. I hope this helps. It sure made it easier for me to count.

  • Jaqi

Loved this…. took turns jumping rope with my husband. We did sets of 100 until we got to 1000. What a fun way to spend some time together :)

  • Rchriss1

Zuzana I just found you yesterday and I have to say, YOU ARE THE BOMB! I totally LOVE what you have going here. I am so THANKFUL for YOU! Thank you. You are AMAZING!!!! I am going to do this challenge in the morning and will post my time then :)

  • Anonymous

Do toe taps up on a shoebox with your hands behind your head :)

  • SaSha

Wow! I did not know that. I will deff try it out ;) ThanX for the suggestion ;)

  • Anonymous

Nice I like the idea I’m going to try it :)

  • Ruth

    Hi Guys!!

My time was 7mins and 11 seconds. I only messed up once!! I really want to thank you both for getting me into jumping rope. I told you a while back but I want to say it again because I am really so thankful, I never skipped rope as a child and as an adult I didn’t think I could do it. Now I jump rope regularly and have gotten pretty good, to me that’s incredible. Thanks for helping realize a potential in myself that I didn’t even know I had!!!! You guys have made a big difference in my life, for this and all that you do!

    Thank you!!

    Ruth

  • Susana Canelo

This is an excellent idea,Mark!! Thanks!! I will try this for sure!

  • ms. Megan.

oh jeez… this isn’t going to happen today. i just did your older ‘Ab Blitz’ workout yesterday, and the 1500 skips in that one has left my calves all trembly. i’ll save this challenge for tomorrow’s pre-brekky wakeup, i think.

i read that the comparative cardio value of skipping versus running is about equal – - around 120 calories per 10 mins. it’s already snowing here in Vancouver, so this sounds good to me…!

  • http://ozziepossum-diyhealthfitness.blogspot.com/ Dee

I haven’t jumped rope for a while so I thought I would do this a little differently. Time myself for 10 minutes and see how many skips I could do, 856……

    Loving the new site guys.

  • Carola

Hi, I am reading a book called “The Beck Diet Solution. Train your brain to think like a thin person”. It is really good, and there are lots of tricks to keep you in track with the diet and with working out. I bought it on ebay.

Zuzana and Freddy, thank you guys for all what you are doing, you are great!!!!!

You can also drink pickle juice after the workout to prevent cramps and get rid of soreness.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=664265104 Sandra Luiza Mazan

Just finished. Me feet are killing me. I finished in 7:06.

  • Erika Hueso

This is perfect just got a jump rope few weeks ago and has weight on it 1lb each side,i will try ,to bad i came late to check the web site but i will do it tomorrow!

  • GetTA

Love jumping rope. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!…i know i can do 600 easy maybe under 6 min…ill WILL try 1000 reps…i ll keep ya posted !!

  • AtalantaRunning

    Hello there,
If I may give my opinion – I believe skipping rope is lower impact than running because your feet only leaves the ground for about an inch or two, it is a great cardio workout and burns lots of calories. Wear shoes when jumping, don’t jump on concrete, or jump on rubber mats if you want to lessen the impact. And don’t jump with your knees locked straight.

Good luck and keep on bodyrockin’! :-)

  • Kate M

I sometimes do 100 reps or 200 reps at a time and quickly mark a line on a piece of paper. Then when I’ve done 10 or 5 marks depending on the reps I know I’m done. It only takes 2 seconds :)

  • Daniela(Svunk)

Hi,I love this idea of Active rest day, especially now in winter time :-))
I did:450 regular skips,250 High knees,200 one leg-alternating legs,100 Jump Jacks in 14:05 minutes.Next time I will do only regular skips to get my best time;-)))
    Kisses to Youuuu and Doggies:-***

  • Marwen

    Hi Z&F!
This exercise challenge was great! It took me 8:25:46 without a jumping rope! It was so fun so i’ll go and buy a jumping rope :D Waiting for the next challenge!!

  • TrishaDe

This is such a good idea, I’m going to do this challenge every night this week right before dinner. Thanks for the tip Mark, I was wondering how to keep track of my skips since I tend to space out :)

  • David

10:09. That was fun- I really need to practice not stepping on the rope:)

  • David

10:09. That was fun- I really need to practice not stepping on the rope:)

  • Bethany

I got my jump rope tangled in the ceiling fan TWICE and almost brought the whole thing crashing down! haha :P I think I’ll be subbing the jump rope for the shoebox toe-taps next time for sure!

  • Jfitness_09

10.43 ONE hiccup, no water breaks, Good workout:p Will try challenge my time later this week using my crossfit rope instead of this thick rope haha:-)

  • Nina_CZ

So maybe I figured it out :D I watched some of your old videos just from curiousity, to see how fast Zuzanka jumps, and I realized my jumping rope may be too long for me (I am 164cm short and my mum’s rope, which I was using, is IMHO too long), any maybe that makes me trip so much and I am more concentrating on not hitting my ceiling while jumping.. I definitelly wanna try this challenge again soon, so I will buy a shorter (adjustable) jumping rope and try again… Maybe it will show up that I can be better than 43 minutes with a better rope. Or it will prove that I just SUCK in jumping rope :D Either way, it is fun to find out :D

  • Nina_CZ

Please do! I will make me jealous and inspired :D

  • Anonymous

    Just did it!
    Ma time: 9:58..

not bad at all,I did water breaks..but I am happy, my foot hold out whit no problem at all…
next time I will do this challenge whit my boyfriend…

  • Jiri Hotarek

Hi, where are you from?? I would say of Czech Republic or Slovak Republic. I live in Czech Republic and I write you because your pronunciation.

  • beogradjanka

i went into the basement of my apartment building and did them because i also have carpet. or, maybe you can do them outside if it is not too cold.. and if you don’t mind awkward stares. haha i was worried about people coming to do their laundry but i was over it the second i tried jumping rope on carpet, ewwwwww. my score was 8:13 with a few very short rests in between to check my time.

  • Martha Elena

Hi Jilia, I was looking at your post, and, we are in the same boat. I’m a sweet tooth too, I really love chocolate, cookies, cakes, etc…
I hope that Zuzana can help us with this question =)

  • http://www.facebook.com/Hvidesten Morten Hvidesten

    Your from Denmark Maria? :)

  • Hipo

Ah…. 7.07. Could do better but frankly didnt expect how I am going to feel after 1000. Anyway outstanding experience hehe …

  • Fricka

7:03.. Am sure I can beat it next time..

Another way to keep track..choose 10 objects
in your surroundings..lined up..and be aware
that each represents 100..move visually down the line
after each 100 skips..so you don’t have to physically change
    position..

    Love these workouts..

It took me 13:36 – it’s long time (for someone who is moving ever day and never been over weight but never really in shape either) but I wasn’t using jumping rope for ages (I don’t have enough space at home because of entresols) so I was tripping a lot and I started this challenge in normal clothes that I was wearing at home… so I had to take some time after maybe first hundred to get out from at least some of them (blouse and longsleeve) – I’m never going to do that mistake again (!) and will always take those challenges more serious because I didn’t expect to sweat because of some jumping ropes :o)

  • Dimitra

I have a back injury too, and it took me a long time before I was able to skip without hurting myself. But I have a preexisting injury, did you hurt yourself skipping? If that was the first time you hurt your back like that I’d be traumatized too! Somedays I still can’t skip, but I do what I can without hurting myself to get stronger so I don’t. I try to make sure to warm up and stretch/cool down…but I still have pain sometimes, and I still hurt myself, but if I stop being active it gets a lot worse. I just need to be careful, and listen to my body.

I completed this challenge last night in 11:54. I took breaks every 100, to write down reps, went to the bathroom once, and stopped to listen and be paranoid that I was bothering the landlords with my whipping noise haha. I could have finished a lot faster I’m sure, but I had just finished a 12hr day of blacksmithing :O Anyway! Liked the challenge idea! Thanks Zuzanna and Freddy, you two are amazing!

  • Lisa

Hi Zuzana & Freddy, I wanted to tell you about a workout that I attempted. My thought was to jump rope with timer set at 10/20 for 8 round, and then do 25 burpees (the ones from “burpee burnout”), and go back and forth doing 3-4 rounds of each (what on earth was I think?). Well although you are a HUGE inspiration, I know for sure my stamina is no where near yours. I only made it for two rounds of each and only did 10 burpees in each round. I though my heart was coming thru my chest. This took me 13 minutes. Of course I will deffinately attempt this again so that I can make it to the program goal I orininally set out to do. Try it out and tell me what you think. I know you whoop ass;) Thanks Lisa

  • Ann_B

Glad to see bodyrocker from Thailand :)

  • Ann_B

I haven’t practice jumping rope for a while. My time was 13:15 mins, included short water break. I’m happy with my score though.Next time I’ll try to beat my score.
Zuzana you really make an ordinary workout outfit looks so hot!

  • NatalieKDL

My time was 07:16 :) First time in all these months with Bodyrock workouts that i feel proud of my score x) Gooo bodyrockers!

  • Michelle

haha I got the same time as you Z, at 8:06, but I only tripped twice so I must be a slower jumper. ahah

Hi i managed to do this challenge in 06:42:45. Thanks!

  • HayleyMo

The first time I did this I had to do it in my kitchen because my basement ceilings are too low, first time was nine minutes and fifty-two seconds. Second time I did this a week later, it was at my gym that I go to. I think the difference in skipping ropes and the wood floors made a BIG difference (plus I didn’t trip as much) because my time was seven minutes and twenty-one seconds! I am still going to keep trying to improve my time :)

  • Karen Reedman

Loved this challenge. I did it in 7 mins 30 secs. I felt so good I kept going for another 500! :-)

  • intrepid_girl

I read this challenge and immediately thought “oh my god, i’ll only be able to do 500 skips before i pass out”.

Instead I committed myself to the challenge and did 1000 skips in 9:05!! I even felt as though I could have pushed harder so I’m going to try to beat Zuzana’s time next :)

ps – I was in a hotel room at the time so couldn’t use objects to help me count. So I did 100 jumps per direction rotating like a compass – North, East, South, West, North, East, South, West, North, South. Hope that helps / makes sense. :)

  • Alyssia

I really liked this challenge. My time was 6:00 with 4 trips. This was awesome. My arms are so sore right now but I also just completed the commando exercise…so that might have something to do with it:)

Okay, finally on Xmas day today, I did this challenge in 15:54!

Not as impressive as Zuzie or any bodyrockers out there who could finish it under 10 mins!

But I got a good workout. I stopped every 100 to mark a stroke on my workout paper and so on..and tripped couple times as well.

  • Stephanie

10:20 I keep tripping on my rope, it keeps curling up and I think I need a link rope

  • Annalisa

Good greif. I am no double dutch queen that’s for sure. I finished this in 16:08. I recently got a jump rope so I am kind of new…but I did my best!

  • Amandafit

Just did this one because I ate bad!!!! I was definately good punishment! I completed it in 9:21. Wishing you two a very happy and fit New Year!

    Amanda

  • Annalisa

I have a funny Bodyrocker story about last night. A friend of mine invited me out for sushi at the last minute last night after we had been at the beach. I exercised in the morning so that would not have counted as me ‘earning’ those carbs so I had to say, ‘Hold that thought!’. Then I ran home and grabbed my jump rope and tried to rat out 1000 skips as quickly as I could before I went back out to dinner! I ended up being faster than my first attempt which was 16:08. I finished in 13:34! Maybe it was the sheer panic of being late that made me move faster! I also did the challenge in my bikini and everywhere the leather rope hit me from my jump rope had pink upraised whip stripes. I felt like a Gladiator. Hahah!

  • http://kenjibankhead.posterous.com/ ashtromanius

I did this in 11:42 with so many trips… but I am using my 11yr old daughters jump rope! haha

  • Mindy Zuckerman

It really doesn’t matter how long it takes you compared to other people. The point is that you did them all! You completed the exercise and next time you can strive to improve :) Great job. 1000 is a big number. :D

  • Alana

I did this, april 9th, in 9:30.. Not bad, not great. I’ll do better next time! :)

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Noelle-Miller/681996017 Noelle Miller

I just finished this little challenge in 8min.15. I used Mark’s method and it REALLY helped! I’m going to use this in upcoming skipping challenges :)
P.S. on the last “object” on did 200 skips.

  • http://www.facebook.com/ildiko.mazar Ildikó Sünci Mázár

Wow, 6:12 and I haven’t tripped even once.
Thanks to Mark VK for his track-keeping tip.

I really hate skipping! :/ but anyway: 10min18sec :) and I feel great! Thx! :)

  • Anonymous

Third time i’ve done this challenge and i bettered my time significantly
    1st time: 7 min 17 sec
    2nd time: 7 min 09 sec
    Today: (3-6-2011) 5 min 42 sec

Gonna do another workout later today. Hopefully it’ll cool down a bit, it’s so incredibly stuffy.

  • Anonymous

Did this one after two workouts. It took me 16:15!!! :/ I’m so bad whit that jump rope!!! :D I put mark on the paper after each 100jumps and change the jump style also. Well, I’m happy I did it!

Thanks to you for these super exercises!! ♥

  • Anonymous

I just did it in 12:37 min and I’m actually quite happy with this time :) I was counting in 100 steps and wrote them down, maybe that took me some time.
One time i tried to do 200 skips at once..but man, that was too exhausting xD so I got back to 100 skips as one round ^^

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_U3TJHFDETUEFHQHSYSSNQ5O5B4 brettm

did this for the first time in 8:51…my skipping skills have come a long way! thanks

  • http://benchpressabear.tumblr.com Joan

First try: 12:01. My arms gave up before my legs did.

  • http://www.youtube.com/user/FitMindy?feature=mhum Mindy McT

Last time I did this challenge was on April 19, 2011. My time was 19min 11 sec. This was a time when I really started body rocking and bought my first jump rope. Today…. my time was…. with a weighted speed rope….. 11min 23sec doing my slowest style of jump, feet together :) Big improvement I think!
