Exercise Challenge – Swing It for Tight Buns

Hi BodyRockers,

Today we are doing a super short challenge just to get you moving. We are doing 100 reps of Sandbag Swing which is one of the best exercises for shaping up your butt and legs. This exercise will also target your inner thighs and your core muscles. I just did it and it took me 3 minutes and 52 seconds. Freddy managed to beat me in this challenge and he completed the 100 swings in 2 minutes and 58 seconds. I can’t wait to have my dinner (baked Turkey and salad) and watch a movie :) Friday night and we are staying at home again… does it sound familiar to you? Workout Breakdown

  • Sandbag Swing100 reps

Get your gear for this workout here:

Start by standing with your feet wider apart with your toes and knees pointing slightly outwards. Keep your abs tight, chest up and back straight. Push your hips back and swing the Sandbag in between your legs, bending your knees and  keeping your back straight.

Push your hips forward with power to swing the Sandbag to the level of your shoulders. Don’t use your arms to swing the bag. Keep them extended and really focus on driving the power from your hips.

    Massage place didn’t sound like a good place. There are different types of massage therapies out there. Because of my shoulder injuries and the tightness I get in my shoulder blade areas I always get a deep tissue massage. I asked one of the masssagist what kind of a massage a normal person gets and he said Swedish. He said I could never have a Swedish my back is too jacked up.

    Deep tissue massage makes me sore, but when I wake up the next day I feel like a whole new person. Until I aggravate the shoulder again. I can’t do any of your workouts involving shoulders lately and horse riding my main sport is also starting to hurt when I ride. Need to go back to my doctor. So I like the concentration on the legs and bum. Had to take a week off from eye surgery so raring to get back to working out.

    I ordered a sandbag through your link a few months ago and love your workouts with it. None of the sandbags that ultimate sandbags sells seem to have handles on the ends though, it’s a little tougher to swing without a handle and only a flap! That’s probably why my numbers are lower ;-)))

    4 minutes and 06 seconds: The first 70 reps I was able to do with 15 pounds, but the last 30 reps I finished with 10 pounds. You guys are truly an inspiration! Thank you!

    hahaha.. I love how you got a small Thai massage lady and Freddie got one twice his size ! I’m from Thailand but I don’t enjoy Thai massage at all.. if I do get a Thai massage I always ask them to go easy on me.

    A Thai Massage isn’t normally very relaxing you should try a Swedish Massage they are really relaxing.

    I LOVED this one. Although I don’t have a sandbag as yet but brought Brutus out of his hidey hole (my 8kg Kettlebell) I completed 100 swings in 2 minutes and 57 seconds. My arse is burning!

    Im from thailand and its sad to hear that you didnt enjoy the thai massage. Its not suppose to hurt that much though. I guess those girls werent experienced or quallified.

    This week is fabulous. I have been trying to tone up and trim my lower body. After a few days (although I was not able to complete the challenges and exercises (e.g. side lunge jump 500), I did the best I could. I felt stronger already. Having a busy schedule, this pockets of workout daily is achievable.

    I competed it in 3:36, I was relieved when I saw that this challenge is really short, cos I can barely walk from the whole week butt and legs exercising. Sitting for me is like a little challenge everytime, cos it hurt so much. Anyways I won’t give and as a true Bodyrocker I will do tomorrow’s workout as well.

    My gymboss timer arrived today. It makes such a difference in the workout because you don’t have to think about anything, just listen for the beep. I used to watch the clock and found that my intensity diminished as the interval was nearly finished. I would like to know what other exercise I can do each day to help me lose weight to achieve optimal fitness. I am turning 50 on Tuesday and the weight just doesn’t come off like it used to. Cheers!

    Hello Zuzana and Freddy,
    I am laughing so hard becuase I had the same exact experience in a 15 minute mall massage. It was my first time getting a massage and I the hole time i was owwwwwww owwww haha and I am a tough girl…no pain no gain…i thought, but it hurt. bad experience haha. well maybe a swedish massage next time instead of deep tissue. I love you guys thank you again for your site, i’m a personal trainer myself and I love experimenting with your ideas and workouts and sharing them with my clients.

    This one was actually quite effective!
    I really felt it in my butt (again!) and the mild soreness feels
    SO great! Its nice to think of the future booty benefits ;)

    100 swings is a killer workout. I never thought of doing it with the bag I usually use a kettle-bell or dumbbell.

    My time 4:11, I don’t have a bag like that so I used a 10lb barbell and held one end…worked beautifully! Seemed easy for the 1st 60, then you gotta concentrate to keep your form! Nice challenge.

    Sandbag question :) What model do you have? I recently bought the Power size and it barely holds 10 lbs per bag. I also noticed that mine does not have any handles on the ends like yours, nor does it have those nice rubber grips on the handles. I’d love one just like yours!

    Hi Guys! 2:27 with a 15 lb kettlebell. oooof! my buns are killing me from the week, that was great to get moving. the hardest part is getting out of bed all stiff in the morning. my husband is noticing a difference just from this week. thank you freddie and zuzana!!!

    3:19, 6-7kg sandbag.
    I noticed something weird, your sandbag has nice rubber “handles”, which mine does not, so I am not able to hold it like you do, cause I do not have a handle on this side of the sandbag, but just something like “ears” you really cannot hold properly.. So I grabbed the lower handle, but it still worked :) I bought my sandbag the same place you did, so I was wondering why they are different… mine look like this: http://www.oldschoolworkout.com/images/sandbags.jpg while yours has those rubber handles Iike, but don’t have :D

    I find your workouts very useful and i can feel my body reacting to the the workouts. Im planning to have a second child soon but before that, i would like to have my body toned up. I would like to ask u why is that in between my workouts, I kind of yawn, and i feel a little bloated in my stomach.

    Funny about the spit!
    I’ve been spitting on my floor before exercising for a long time and it DOES really work! Water not so much.
    If I’m doing pushups, I just spit a little on my hands and rub them together, big difference, no slip grip.

    Too bad about the Thai massage, true, they are pretty strenuous, but if you ever go to Thailand, do get one there, that’s the BEST Thai massage I’ve ever had!

    For PURE relaxation, to the point of snoring for me, is definitely a Swedish massage…complete peaceful bliss… feel like mush.

    One week until Christmas! Getting ready to push hard this week so I can enjoy my favourite treats! Oh sweet reward…fa lalalala lalalala in small amounts, of course… ;)

    Bought some sexy sleeveless tops for the holidays to show my BodyRock shoulders and arms! Thx!

    A BodyRocker Christmas wish: Can we do some 300 to 600 Rep timed workouts this week? The kind where you think you must be almost finished, but when you check, you’re only half done and have to kick yourself to keep up to the very end…

    My legs and butt are still soooo sore from yesterday’s workout. But I know you said to push through it : ) and I definitely will. I just ordered a sand bag from online and I’m so excited to get it! However, the site said that they will be sold out until January 11th D: which makes me sad. The site also said that sand is not included…? I don’t get it. How can you order a sandbag and they don’t give you the sand with it? I mean, if they just give you the bag and not the sand, that’s a pretty expensive bag haha did you get the sand with the bag when you ordered it? I’m sooo confused!

    Wow! I used a 35lb KB. I had to stop and rest a minute after the first 50. Then I did 25, paused, then another 25. Good forearm burn too.

    Hi Natalie, you can fill the bag with whatever you want. We use 1 kg bags of rice that we got at the grocery store :)

    Our can hold up to 40lbs (I think). Not sure about the handles – this is just the way ours came in the box :)

    I workout and kick my booty more then ever on those blah days…getting a workout it lifts my grumpy mood and helps me feel better about feeling fat (bloated). Totally worth it :D

    I did the 100 swings yesterday with a 16p kettlebelt in 4min.39sec. It was a brutal challenge and I was loosing my form at the end so I had to concentrate. Today I`m doing the Six Packs Abs 2011, so I`ll be back after diner to share my score!!!! ;)
    I`m pushing my sister to be part of the community… she is following Zuz & the BodyRockers 100%, but she`s shy to come on the site for sharing her score and ask questions cause she`s a beginner (she started Monday) and she`s scared that people`s gonna laught at her… I tryed to explain what exactly BodyRock was doing for us, and I was telling her that Zuzana & Freddy don`t stand ANY Negatives comments and Zuz, you`re all about helping beginners! :) She still is shy, and I`m sure she is not the only girl…. So Zuz, can you tell her excatly what we are here??? Maybe if she`s earing it from you… She`s going true alot these days, and I`m sure we can help her to understand the BodyRock.Tv!!

    I took a rest day on Saturday, not ARD. I did this challenge Sunday morning with the 4mins Earn Your Carb routine even though I’m not doing the diet challenge. It took me 3:50:25 using a 25lb bag to swing it for my tight buns.

    When we moved from Vancouver we shipped the sandbag that we originally had with the rest of our gear and belongings that we could not take with us. We ordered a new one and it cam with handles. The older one has since arrived with the rest of our stuff so we have 2 now. They are both the same make and model – I’m not sure why the newer one has grips – it was not something that we expected or requested.

    I finished in 3:31. The positioning of my duffel handles didn’t work so I stuffed the duffel in a backpack and used the top of the straps. Much more comfy on my hands.

    Often when you’re having a hard time reaching your goals, it’s because of a slight lack in the area of nutrition. You probably already have a food log. But make sure you record it all… even if you finish off something your kids didn’t finish eating. Or if it’s not that… make sure that you’re eating even for how hard you are working out. Hope this helps.

    i feel good and full of energy now.
    Between yesterday and today, i feel my legs are working like crazy and my arms seem heavy.
    Today i’m working at the restaurant and then doing aikido, i feel muscles are growing.

    I wasn’t going to workout tonight, but then I saw this short exercise challenge and there was no excuse! I didn’t even change into workout clothes, it was so fast! I used my 20lb sandbag and did this in 3:05.

    I used 20 lbs and finished in 3:14, which is actually 3 seconds longer than last time. I held the bag by the end when I should have used the middle to keep from whacking the ground, oh well, I’ll remember next time! That’s not the real story today though, after some skipping I caught up with my husband on the tail end of The Midstate Trail (100 miles +/-). It was pouring rain off and on so there was plenty of mud around to make things interesting. After a couple of near misses, the mud got the better of me, and I went down, but managed to catch myself in a crab position! Neither my butt, nor the bag with the camera, which dangled from my shoulder, hit the mud! Whoo! Yay! Thank you so much Zuzana and fighting crabs!

    I forgot to time the first 30 reps, but I think the whole 100 took me 4 mins. I used a 20 pound kettlebell
