Exercise Challenge – 300 Killer Squats

Hi BodyRockers,

Today’s exercise challenge comes to you from a beautiful beach somewhere in the Indian Ocean :) We are taking advantage of the white sand beach to do 300 sandbag squats – a perfect exercise for targeting your legs and butt. Squats are also an amazing exercise for targeting your abs and core so pounding out 300 of them is all good for everyone.

It’s completely up to you how you tackle this challenge. I did 10 reps at a time with short micro-break inbetween. This is a time challenge, but as always, your form comes first. 300 well executed squats will deliver many more benefits to you then 300 faster squats that are all over the place. Also please remeber that doing your exercises properly will limit your chances of injury.

We are super tired after traveling for the better part of 15 hours, so about the most exciting thing we have planned for the rest of the day is sleeping :)

We will be back tomorrow with a workout with a new workout.

Best,

Zuzana & Freddy

Aaah, the Indian Ocean?!?! I did not expect that! I’m so jealous! Enjoy your time there and share it all with us, I can’t wait for all the updates from your trip, I super duper curious!
About the squats, tomorrow I was actually thinking of doing a workout but I might actually do both and spread the challege throughout the whole day.
    Have an amazing time!!!

This will be perfect with the pullup challenge since I’m behind on the workouts. Can’t wait for a video of your stay by the beach :) I hope you soak up some relaxation in the midst of all your intense workouts. You deserve it guys!

    Hi Zuzana,

Is there local sand in the bag? How much does it weight approximately?

As an aside: There’s a few more than 50 islands …and tons of contintental area as well…the Indian Ocean is the third largest ocean with something like 20% of the world’s salt water in it.

OMG!!! Looks like very nice beach. :) Show us the water too. I’m really missing the white sand.
I don’t know if I can do this challenge today ‘coz I’m feeling weird. I wanna do it but my body don’t feel like it. I’m still listening to my body if it’s brutus or is it really my body telling me to rest. BodyRockers, I need your help this time.
Thanks for this challenge. I will do it but don’t know if today. :-|

  • Heidi

What fun! White sand, water … You guys are so great, thinking of us while you are gone:)

What a truly “killer” challenge, so we will be sure not to forget we are BodyRockers!
I did this with a slight mod. Used a 6 lb/2.8 kg medicine ball that I lifted with straight arms overhead with each squat. I kept the pace nice and steady, so I could keep my form.

I finished 200, then took a break to stretch. Then I knocked out the rest (24:41 total for 300, includes stretch break) by then I was knocked out, and decided it would be ok if I didn’t skip today.

Sleep sounds good, see you guys manana,
Z&F thanks for remembering us …

I decided to break up this challenge into sets of 50 with a 25LB barbbell and each set took about 2 minutes to complete. I then added 5 pullups in between each set for a complete upper/lower body split and it worked out perfectly. As Heidi said, thanks for continuing to update Bodyrock for us while you are on vacation :)

  • Heidi

    Impressive!!!!

ugh! Killer is right. My legs were sore before I finished, usually I am tired before I finish, but the pain and sore muscles don’t get to me until I am sleeping or the next morning. not this time;) I broke this up pretty much over the whole afternoon. The sight of 300, 500, or any hundred, usually intimidates me. I did sets of 10, with a few minutes (sometimes a little more) in between. I used my homemade rice sandbag, that I posted a pic of on Zuzana’s facebook! 10 lbs of rice and 300 squats, awesome workout, although, I wish I was doing it on the beach too! Thanks Zuzana and Freddy, can’t wait for today’s workout!

You’re good!!! :) I didn’t finish this challenge. I only able to do 100 with 1st 25lbs and find it heavy and switched it to 10lbs (can’t find 15lbs). I moved to skipping for 20 minutes. When I do skipping I was trying to copy the boxer style skipping and just to my surprise, it’s not easy. hahahaha!!!
Using barbell?? You gave me idea on that. Since I’m working with the Police Department, we have a big gym there, where I usually do my bodyrock routine during lunch break, they have everything you need.
Ok, I’ll try again for 300 reps squat next time. I’ll copy your style.

    Hi Maria,

What I do when I feel odd, but don’t know if I’m getting sick or just over worked is some lite exercises and see if that warms me up for a Light* workout! If it’s Brutus then even swinging your arms or hopping around will be “to much” exercise and you will know him for what he is (the lazy in us all). If you’re off and need rest the lite workout should be all you do for the day and hopefully it’s not a cold coming on.

    I hope this helps,
    –Chris

    Nice!

If your knees start to buckle in or get unstable when you are doing squats, try to get into a wider stance with your feet and knees pointing slightly outwards. You have to focus on squeezing all of the muscles in your legs and butt. My knees used to hurt when I was doing squats until I realized that I was performing them with a bad form. Doing the squats with a proper form will have a huge impact – positive impact because you will be strengthening your knees with this exercise instead of hurting them.

    It’s me :)

With 6kilos sandbag, I did this in 10:09min. (My old time was 9:21, but then my bag was just about 2-3kilos.) ;)

(And the boys were shooting me by waterguns when I try to do these. Challenging! :D)

I did this today omg was so hard…. I was sweating after 100 lol. I finished in 14:57… it was great my back wasn’t hurting either ( my physical therapist corrected my form for me) lol. She told me that my head needs to be in a straight alignment with my back, so as to not upset my neck and shoulder muscles, which I had been looking up lol. She also told me to make sure that I hold my abs tight and push back with my bum first (which I already knew :D hehe). But over all my legs feel like jelly atm. I just find these old workouts awesome. They worked for me last year till I got hurt (holding my head up during squats… lol and I really hurt my shoulder haha). But anyhow I know these work I was in awesome shape last year by st. patty’s day because of these, and now I can see if I have improved even though I had to stop working out for a while :D!
