On the Floor – Abs Challenge

Hi BodyRockers,

Some thoughts on this journey we call BodyRocking…
Many of you beginners have written us emails lately on how discouraged you were to discover that not everyone around you supports your fitness journey. One new BodyRocker described how their world seemed to divide before their eyes between the people who love what they are doing and the people who completely hate it. How can fitness and the desire to be healthy, strong and outrageously good looking (to borrow a line from Zoolander) inspire such intense emotional reactions from family and friends? It’s not like you announced your intention to rob banks for a living… so why all of this judgement and negativity?

The answer I think is that most people are sedentary. There are a whole bunch of people out there who just don’t move – or at least they move as little as possible – and actively resist with great efforts moving one step beyond what is absolutely necessary. You see it all the time anywhere where there are stairs and an escalator side by side. The escalator is jammed, the stairs are empty. These people are living Big Mac to Pepperoni Pizza slice, getting larger, slower and more clogged up by the second. Some of these people will be inspired by your example. Your effort to be the best version of you possible will give them hope that they too can make healthier choices and choose to start moving. The other people – the people who hate what you are doing and try to discourage, or ridicule with gusto most likely find it easier to go negative on you then take an honest look at their own behavior.

The best advice I think that anyone can offer in this situation is to lead the way in your own life. In the face of a whirl wind of negativity, sarcasm and judgement stand fast and lead the way. Don’t worry because all of the BodyRockers here have your back. Keep on Rocking!

Best,
Frederick

P.S.
This challenge was inspired by the song On the Floor by Jennifer Lopez – you guys can rock this tune while you bust out your reps :) Here is the teaser video:

Workout Breakdown

Time: 10min.Workout Type: exercise challengeExercises: 2
  • Mountain Climber20 reps
  • Toe Touch20 reps

Get your gear for this workout here:

Instructions:

Set your timer to count down 10 minutes. Your goal is to do as many sets of Mountain Climbers and Toe Touches as possible during the 10 minutes. There are 20 reps in each set for both of these exercises and you will be going back and forth until the time is up.

Unfortunately I don’t have my scores for you guys today, because I went to my dentist and let him drill into my tooth so I have been in pain today and didn’t do this challenge myself. I will come back to this challenge some other time. Tomorrow I have a really good workout for you :)

Yours,

Zuzana.

Mountain Climber

This is your starting position. Keep your hands right underneath your shoulders and your arms extended. Jump up and switch legs. Your feet land at the same time. Each jump counts as 1 rep. Complete 20 reps and move on to the second exercise.

Toe Touch

This is your starting position on your back. Legs are extended and on the ground.

Squeeze your abs, press the lower back into the mat and lift your extended legs up. Touch your toes lifting your shoulderblades off of the ground. This is one rep, complete 20 reps and move on to another set of Mountain Climber.

Just out of curiosity… Zuzana what is your favorite animal? hehe

I heard this tune this morning on my way to work…such a nice music for a workout! Will do this tomorrow morning!

  • Anonymous

Just a question: you mention toe touch but it looks like you are doing leg lift and toe touch. Am I right? Should it be 20 reps of leg lift/toe touch or only toe touch?

    Thanks

    Hey Guys!!

In response to your post (in particular, how people choose the escalator over the stairs), I came across this video a couple months ago and I find it fascinating! Im curious what your opinion is about the behaviour on a deeper level. Based on this clip it seems to me there are so many factors influencing sedentary living. We live in a culture that lacks creativity. We live in a culture that is consumer driven. We live in a culture that offers convenience and quick fixes. We live in a culture and broader system that keeps people from THINKING. We are spoon fed everything… from the news to what we should wear; from what is popular to how to be happy. I think many people blindly go about there business like zombies… UNTIL something stimulates the mind. The clip below is testament to that. Living radically requires a fight… and that is what Bodyrockers do every day. We fight against what is easy, against conformity and find ourselves outside of the box. A community like this offers daily stimulation, ambition, CREATIVITY and passion for life… and I thank EVERYONE for that!

Anything that is good is met by resistance. We can all search the history of each of our country and find a revolution that was met with a bloody battle. We can look at the very real and current situation in the Middle East, especially Libya. It can also be true on any personal level. We all fight bloody battles… some face health challenges, some face those who resist good and change. I reading “Younger Next Year” (Chris Crowley and Henry Lodge) and their basic premise is you MUST change your life now for an amazing future and ageless aging. Be idle and your body literally decays and rots itself. Eat right and work your buns off and you resist that decay! SO simple. Getting there is not. I feel for those who face resistance from family and friends. But! Freddy is right. Stay steadfast and immovable in what is good. You will conquer and come out on top… maybe not with those who you’d like to see now, but with many, many friends and BodyRockers you’ve met along the way. Do NOT give up!

Hey!! had an absolutely amazing workout today!!
i called it “NO FEAR ON THE FLOOR” lol because it was a combo of the other days no fear challenge and todays abs on the floor. I did the no fear for 10 minutes, then this challenge for 10.

For the no fear i completed- 61 rounds!!! of clapping pushups and ninja jump ups in advanced forms
For abs on the floor i completed 10 full rounds plus 20 mt climbers

this was an awesome full body burn and sweat!!! I always go into these challenges doubting myself, thinking im never going to go a whole 10 minutes. especially of clapping pushups!! but i did and did not take any breaks over a few seconds.

After i cooled down with some yoga, and just got out of an amazingly refreshing shower.

    love you guys!!

I agree with you, Freddy. I find most people are denial!!! Yeah, we can hear them mocking us, who love to do effort in order to stay in shape, fit and healthy, BUT, I think, they are just jealous by trying to sabotage what we are doing. I call that a test and challenge for us on how strong we could be… how serious we are to take care of ourselves. Me, I don’t care to whatever they said, I’m happy to what I’m doing. I feel good, I feel strong, I have a peace of mind, over all I feel great, that’s because of you and Zuzie and all bodyrockers support. Thanks a million and never ending thanks. :)

Abs Challenge! Yes!!! Yes!!! I love both moves (mountain climbers and toe touches)… I’ll reserve it for tomorrow at my lunch break. I’ll post my score tomorrow. If I get home from work and see our Friday’s workout, then, I might do that too. :)

  • Dheana

I love how you’re linking your workouts with music videos – very cool. I think JT & Ciara’s Love Sex Magic could be the inspiration for a pretty wicked workout. What do you think?

ahahah, this piano stairs idea an awesome!! Love it! They should have stairs as well with dots spread on each step and people will be tempted to jump from one dot to the other!
Deep inside ourselves, we are still kids after all!!

  • http://kenjibankhead.posterous.com/ ashtromanius

oh and PS…I did 6 rounds of this.

  • http://delightfultastebuds.wordpress.com Jos

Haha I saw this video a while back and it’s pretty creative!

  • Annie_B

You’re right Maria. I call this a challenge as well. I believe strong mind lead to strong body. No one can take us bodyrockers down if we’re determine to stay strong, fit and healthy :) Those people are just jealous or have their own insecurity issues. I just ignore what they say. Although, I wish they would open their minds then they will know that being healthy mean they can be much happier and live their lives longer.

  • http://delightfultastebuds.wordpress.com Jos

    I think it’s leg lift/toe touch for 20reps

  • Ioana

First thing I did in the morning! I managed to do 9 reps and 20 mountain climbers, and I’m so happy because i-ve always wanted to do the workout in the morning but I couldn’t, I usually wake up at 6 am when everybody is asleep and I can;’t make all that noise, but now it’s 10 am and nobody at home! hooray!

    Hi Jessica,

I think the fun factor had a lot to do with the increase in use of the stairs, but I think the fact others where using them also contributed to the increase. Thanks you for the link it’s a really cool idea!

I think I will post it to on my facebook wall.

    Hi Freddy and Zuzi,

The tooth I hope is better today! You two are beginning to sound a bit like the walking wounded. Freddy with a bad wing and Zuzi with a bad tooth.

Take care you two as us selfish folks need you both well, :-)

Toes touches were so hard. They took me so much time. I could only complete 4 times the combo and the timer stopped when i was doing the 11th toes touch in the 5th round. And then i did 30 min of interval high knees. Was all sweat !

  • Anonymous

Hi Zuzana! Today’s my rest day so I’ll be coupling this challenge with the workout tomorrow. However, I just wanted to pop in to say I hope you recover in record time – nobody deserves tooth or mouth discomfort (ouch!). This may not be applicable in your case but I’ve heard really good things about clove (or clove oil) for toothaches : )

  • Phikli Sin

for the toe touches, do we start from extended legs on the ground and then raise them up for each toe touch or was it just once?

  • Layal

OMG I love this song it has the same chorus rythme as ”Lambada” :) I’m currently doing u’re older workouts I try to do 2 short ones everyday. I sweat like crazy I loove your workouts so much better than those long dvds that I was working out with
    thank u so much

  • Kirry

Pffft, I’m so lame, because I got teary eyed from looking at this.. Its like a herd of people turning into individuals who had fun in their daily routine. The people on the stairs playing are subjective and open to change, and the people who fear the piano and still take the escalator, I think those are the ones who will never support someone who is changing infront of their eyes, like for instance; a BodyRocker…all because of fear, which is so deeply sad. :(

  • Hireaman

Escalators annoy me! I see them as a way to get up stairs faster, so I walk up them! I hate it when people just stand and get carried up! Saying that it is also very annoying having to wait for people when I get to the top and they are still getting carried along! The inventor is propbably spinning in his/her grave….assuming he/she is dead and that it was one persons idead……

As one of the few (i think) men who bodyrock on here, I can say we get the same pressure about working out, my parents for example have always worked out, my mom runs almost every day, she is as you could say obsessed, yet she gives me hassle for working out with weights and growing muscle, saying i dont do enough cardio! Where as she is now (as my whole family will tell you) to thin! not enough muscle mass! My dad says the same about lifting weights and taking protein shakes (he thinks them dangerous), he is against how i do it but he goes running all the time and plays squash and does spinning, yet he has a belly! I get criticism yet Im probably the fittest of the bunch! No one seems to see that the way i work out – the way we all on here work out, is one of the best ways to stay in shape! My sister suffers the wrath of my parents worse than I – she has always had a weight problem but she is my no means super fat! they almost pick on her to loose weight and change yet all they have her doing is running, no resistance, no intervals, so i switched her onto bodyrock and I hope this can help her!

  • Pavlina

Zuzi is that the same wisdom tooth you had issues with in Malta? Hope you’re feeling much better today!

  • Tamar

    Hey,
i’ve managed to do 9 1/2 sets. great challenge!
I have a Q: Are we allowed to eat carbs after a challenge too?
    thanks

  • Renske

My first reaction from my best friend was: “What? Would you do THIS? Soon you will be very thin! That’s really not healthy you know! And she (Susanna) looks too muscled out, yuck! You don’t want to look like that, is it?! How often do you do it then? Not every day, right? I do think you should watch out, soon you’re way too thin! ” After I said that I am starting at home doing only exercises….
So that was a vigorous reaction! But I know that this is what I want to do for myself, to get more energy en be healthier. It’s bad that my friends don’t are there to support me. But he, I really don’t need their support to start body rocking! It’s my own choice and commitment to fill my own live.
If all my decisions where based on other people’s opinions, than I would not lead my own life, but that from my friends. And even the people who gave you advise for life are not following it there selves… But after all, I know that my Friends are saying this because it is something new, and they are not total informed by it. So than they are afraid of what you are doing to your body, they don’t want you to hurt yourself with any strict regime of exercise every day. I’t is because they are caring about you. So, I begin doing Body-rock, with up’s and downs. I am learning how my body works, getting fitter, stronger and healthier. My friends are now curious what this body-rock is exactly… And they are seeing results on me… So Maybe, they are first not with you, but if you go trough this, than after a while there are getting used to it and they want to know… End maybe, you will get them with you to do also body-rock! :D I wish everybody good luck with the struggle of people that are not with you to support, know that this is what you want for yourself. And if people see that you are succeeding and getting happier than they will slowly come around. Just wait and see… And if they’re not, than you have all of us, body-rockers, to support you!!

  • Charlyne

I think I did it wrong. I did not lower my legs everytime. Must be why I wasnt sweating bullets. Will do this again when I get home tonight, with lowering my legs to mat each time! Have a great day body rockers! Its Friday here! Yaay! My score 9/8

Yes, I am fan of abs too and sometimes after workout I add diferent exers for abs too! Now Im working hard in my 6 pack ))) and alwayes in workouts I never feel tired my abs, need extra :)

  • *Sel*

I made 9 rounds of this. But i think i made an easier version of toe touch :P as i m just a beginner. Following your tutorials around 3 weeks now.
By the way, Zuzana, i was just wondering maybe you can advise us approximately how much calorie we can burn with these exercises.
I was already running 2-3 times a week like 2 months and then 3 weeks ago I added these home workouts too. But dammit my weight is same :(( But i feel tighter and firmer. I guess I am gaining muscles and as muscles are denser my weight doesnt change, isnt it? I am really disappointed that my weight doesnt change but I still dont give up on exercises. Will continue till I get those 6 packs ;))

I could only complete 4 1/2rounds as well, but it was the first workout I completed without leaving out any exercises or giving up early.

Just a question for other bodyrockers out there. Some people don’t eat “late at night” or “past eight” etc. The problem I have is that I can’t fall asleep if I’m hungry. I’ve tried the whole bag of tricks from drinking tea instead of eating or just having half a cup of cottage cheese, etc. I just can’t seem to go to bed without having basically another one of our small meals! In addition to this, I often wake up in the middle of the night -usually around three to four and am STARVING and can’t fall back asleep unless I have even MORE to eat. This is so frustrating as I find this largely sabotages the progress I make during the day -and may be behind my body’s resistance to “trimming” up. Does anyone else struggle with this? Does anyone else have ways that they have overcome this issue? It doesn’t seem to be one of will power because if I don’t “give in” I will literally lay in bed for hours and not sleep until I eat something. Please help! I find this so frustrating and would LOVE anyone’s advice! Thanks guys!

Zuzana, Freddy, and all the other bodyrockers – I want to thank you for these workouts! I was 213 lbs the beginning of January. I’d only ever watched the workouts, never tried any. Then one day, there was a work out with hopping squats going into a burpee then plank then pushup and burpee back up, two hopping squats back. And the urge to do it was so great I did it, loved it, and now work out to your exercises at least 3x/week and I never do the beginner modifications – I have found in the past that if I do the beginner modificats I never progress up, mental block. So I try to follow the workout as it is originally intended and I am so close to doing a full pushup, each day I get closer!…I am at 205.8 lbs and have shoulder muscle definition, my stomach is going down, and I am filled with happiness and laughter, I am more confident at work, and I can totally visualize what I am going to look at down the road! Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Good job ! Keep going ;-) I started bodyrocking this year, and before that i wasn’t doing any physical activities for years … and i’m starting to see progress ! I’m still covered of fat everywhere, but i can do more reps and go through a whole workout + 20 min skipping afterwards ;)
Now we have to work a bit more on our abs so that next time, we can beat this score !

I’m in the same boat Karah! I have to have some protein between 8 and 9pm or I’m starving and can’t sleep either. Most of the time I can make it through til morning to a huge bowl of oatmeal, but if I wake up, look out fridge! I haven’t put on much weight, and I’ve been trying! So I guess everybody is different and if you’re not experiencing any negative results, it’s ok for you. Anybody else?

  • Mary Lou

Your sister is lucky to have you! Keep it up and maybe your parents will come around when they start seeing the results, if not, keep BODYROCKIN’!

Thank you for helping us press on Freddy. I appreciate your words of encouragement-BodyRockers are a breed of their own! Since I still can’t do many exercises I focused on what I can do, and that’s lower body. Here is a break up of what I did today. Slowly be surely I’m getting back in the groove!
Set timer to 6 rounds 2intervals of 10 to 30sec, 3 exercises circuit done twice.
    Full Squats
    1/2 Squats
    Speed Squats
    UFC 3 times
Set timer to 6 rounds, 2 intervals 10 to 30sec.
Stationary lunges as many as I could for 30sec
    3 sets on each leg!
At end I did feel slightly dizzy since I haven’t workout intensely for 3 weeks and my legs feel shaky but I’M BACK!!!!! Have a wonderful weekend BodyRockers! Muakkkk

  • Lenka Slovakia

correction, that would not be so intence… So i think its just toe touch…

  • Jessy

To me it sounds like you’re not eating enough during the day, so your hunger gets crazy during the night. The ”don’t eat past 6pm” is an old myth, because there is actually no reason why you shouldn’t eat later (unless it prevents you from falling asleep – but it seems that your problem is the opposite).

  • Lenka Slovakia

Just finished:} I did 30 min skipping and then On The Floor(Great name btw): 11 raps plus in the first round i was doing Leg lift toe tauch-(misunderstand) great but too long not so intence… Zuzi all the best for the tooth thing…
And i have to say, nobody from my friends making fun of me and actually i find out that a lot of people (around me)starting to exercize and eat healty and stuff, so in the work for example we share thips what we eat and other ideas. With mine colegues talked about this yesterday- that everybody getting mad about fitnes.
    On the other hand, i just kind of hope that i am not bothering people to talk about bodyrock all the time… vsetkeho vela skodi- how you translate this??:} Everything what is to much is not good- how is it in english correctly?:}
And people who have problem to be discouraged, i would just suggest to dont talk about it with them (You have us!)… keep it for yourself and after time they will notice change, will come to you and ask questions and then you can feel the wormth inside you and be more happier that your friends noticed and will not be so weird about this any more…. Keep on rocking!

  • http://delightfultastebuds.wordpress.com Jos

Just make sure you eat enough during day – enough protein, fiber, healthy fat and good carbs.

  • http://delightfultastebuds.wordpress.com Jos

Ok I just did this challenge today
    20 Mt Climbers – 14 sets
20 Toe Touch – 13 sets (only did the toe touch – no leg raises – was it correct? or?)

I didn’t sweat as much but still a good workout for a short time in the morning.

  • http://twitter.com/#!/empowart Jessica

Hi Martin! I understand why some would agree that the statement is too strong. However in my own life, and by the sounds of it from many others, I know that to get where I am today it required a fight… a mental fight more than anything else. I fought against myself, my insecurities, negative thinking, etc. It has also been a struggle with friends and family who don’t support me in my efforts. I think that it was definitely a ‘fight’ more so at the beginning of my journey… today I do it because I love it indeed!

  • AudraFit

Hi guys, I completed 13 sets for this challenge and now I’m warmed up for the Survivor workout so check back on that post later for my results. By the way, just ignore negativity and do what makes you happy and thats all that matters. For me it’s Bodyrock and nothing else :)

OH GOSH, you just reminded me that I was suppose to go to the dentist to get my tooth drilled too!!! I completely forgot about it and I forgot to call her and tell her I am not coming! Ooooh my, have to call her on Monday and make a new appointment… This happens when you have important days and meetings written down in your calendar AT WORK :D

  • Anonymous

I agree in the sense that it isn’t a ‘fight’ for me to bodyrock because the inner Nazi drives me either way to look great, not be lazy, etc. For me, even though I enjoy bodyrocking, it doesn’t require me to fight against the most destructive forces in my life, like guilt and shame for example. In a lot of ways, my ‘relationship’ with bodyrock is always on the edge of an unhealthy one (almost an obsession, spending like 3 hours a day on the sight even if there isn’t anything new haha and I have SO much to do)…but this is just me, my own tendencies and struggles. As you said, Jessica, a lot of people on the site talk as though they DO have a more ‘liberating’ relationship with bodyrock and people like me DEFINITELY benefit and can learn from those of you who share these positivie ways of engaging with exercise. It’s always appreciated, heart-warming as in a good ‘check’ when my own thoughts seem not to be so constructive!

On the website, Z and F had posted an ‘earn your carbs at breakfast’ workout which is only 4 minutes long. So if in 4 min its okay, I think 10 minutes won’t be a problem either. As another Bodyrocker said a while ago, the idea is just to ‘move your feet before you eat (carbs)’ so that you aren’t just eating carbs while sitting on your butt all day at a desk or something. Hope that helps!

Okay, I’m new to this Bodyrock thing, and it’s kicking my butt! I managed 6 complete sets of each, and I’m panting… I’m gonna try to keep up with your workouts every other day. I *will* see my ab muscles again, dammit! :-)

    Hey Diane,

Well done for the effort and I am with you all the way on the being filled with laughter part as well as all the other points you made. It is such a fantastic gift that Zuzana and Freddy have how they flip hard work and effort round and make it FUN. I think energy and Zest for life oozes out of every word on the Bodyrockertv and facebook pages.

Once again Zuzana and Freddy I bow before you and pass on all my respect and admiration for what you do. You really are making the world a happier, healthier and more positive place.

Diane …YOU KEEP ROCKING ON MATE x

The batteries last forever but I make sure to have back ups. I would be so sad if it stopped working !!

Hi guys! I know i havent posted in a good while, but i’ve still been bodyrocking just too busy to post my scores. Freddy, it is so true that its hard to find individuals around me to support my enthusiasm for fitness and nutrition. It is easier to be the “perfect” bodyrocker at home, but its when i’m out with friends or i go to family suppers that people freak out. It’s like people do not understand why i choose to eat healthy and work out daily. People keep telling me but we have one life, eat what you want, and i just answer but i DO eat what i want…i enjoy eating good and fresh things it makes ME happy. I dont need to eat fatty gross foods to enjoy life. I rather live a long and active life than stuff myself with stuff thats gong to cause my body a multitude of health problems in the future! I think the best feedback i can give to the new bodyrockers, is to keep on doing what THEY want to do. You cant expect everyone in your life to understand the importance of health and physical activity, but do it for yourselves. By doing it for yourselves you will maybe inspire someone that was very closed-minded in your surroundings.

Have a good day guys!! xox

  • Cindy Beverly

WOW I am impressed! How did you manage to do 13 sets, kudos my fellow rocker you deserve a pat on the back or shall I say abs you must have abs of steel.

Wish me luck I plan on doing this one after my dinner settles and I just finished the Sexy Survivor Workout. Although I don’t think I will get 13 sets.

  • AudraFit

Hi Cindy, I only did toe touches in this challenge as I’ve recently developed a tiny hernia an inch above my belly button so no leg raises for me right now til I get it looked at :( I know you can do it Cindy if you put your mind to it :)

  • Yashizzle

5 sets. my abs were on fire! great workout! :)

  • Anonymous

I did 11 sets and I did leg lift/toe touch (and not toe touch alone).
Besides I included a roll over to move from one exercise to the other…
And I kept moving my butt by doing the survivor workout. I am glad I did it because I felt like the exercise challenge was not enough, I did not feel totally satisfied. And I think I would have felt the same if I had done the survivor workout alone, so it was a great combination!

    Have a great weekend!

  • Yashizzle

Good for you for pushing yourself! Keep up the great work!!! :)

  • Yashizzle

this happened to me twice in the past month and i can honestly say i almost cried both times.lol

  • mbc3

why is it that when you get serious about fitness and eating healthy, someone says “be careful not to get too obsessed.” what does that mean? shouldn’t we BE “obsessed” about our health?? I know freddy posted a blog about this a while back. its just frustrating. I’m not obsessed, i’m passionate and actually enjoy finding ways to improve my life and health…
just figured i would post this comment because i know that other bodyrockers have posted similar comments and its nice to know there is bodyrock.tv where we can all “obsess” together about our goals :)
    Rock on!!!

  • mbc3

it definitely is hard to find the energy to do workouts when you have babies. I have three. 1,2, and 4 years old and i am home with them all day. I love being a stay at home mom, but my workouts are my outlet and i don’t know what i would do with out them. They make me feel so good and boost my mood and energy. I have mine all on the same nap schedule and do my workouts in the middle of the day while they nap.
If you’re feeling bad from not working out and you feel so good while you workout then the choice is simple. Just start doing it again asap.. simply because it makes you feel good. We have choices in life, make the ones that make you happy! :) Make a game plan.. tonight write down your meal plan for tomorrow and the workout that you want to do and hold yourself to it and do it! You will feel so good that you did that you’ll be right back on the wagon in no time :)
    good luck!

  • Anonymous

Just the workout that we post :)

  • mbc3

how long have you been bodyrocking?
you will be surprised at how fast you get strong. I started two months ago and i’m so much stronger already and beating my times and reps from the beginning. This type of working out is so fun and addicting! good luck body rocker!

  • mbc3

lol i love this post! I bet we all feel that way! gosh why is this website and this type of working out so addicting!?! Love it!!
    Thank you Zuzana and Freddy!!!

  • mbc3

you know you’re a BodyRocker when.. you and your two sister bodyrockers want to get workout tank tops made that say “We Love BodyRocking!” No joke, can’t wait to get them made :)
    Mary

  • Martin

I’m sure you are by far not the only person here whose relationship with BodyRocking is teetering on the brink of obsession :-)

  • Anonymous

This is so true! I have gotten that same phrase over and over (mainly from people who care nothing about their health) it is frustrating, and I agree! its that we are passionate, not “obsessed” –good point :)

Good Morning BodyRockers Around the World!
Today is Saturday and I’m doing this one a cpl days late:( However, I am going to do 3 today to make up for the days I missed. Life just seemed to get in the way the last cpl of days. I wish I could find that balance…..to be able to juggle everyday things like work, school, kids and their activities…I know I’m not the only one out there, it’s just life. It’s a work in process and I’m sure if I stay committed and remember my personal goals I want to achieve, I’ll figure it out.

Anyhoo, I was only able to complete a total of 5 sets of each exercise :( How were some people able to complete 10+?? The toe touch move just killed me! and reeeally slowed me down..

To everyone out there, have a great Saturday and a BodyRock’in weekend!
    Tammy :)

  • Cindy Beverly

Ok finally did this one and let me tell you my abs felt it I got 5 full sets in. I am going to try and do this again in 2 weeks to see if I can beat my score. I let you know how I do.

  • Lvette #1

Thanks for the link Jessica. I feel as BodyRockers that is the reasoning we’re all rocking. Zuzana and Freddy makes our daily torture:)) so much fun. I did on the floor abs challenge this morning, and its never occurred to me that I did 156 reps of toe touch in 10mins until I’m writing this.

  • Anonymous

Congrats girl!! Keep it up! :)

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Maria-Lanier/100000216811315 Maria Lanier

Yeah, I want to work double time for my abs. That stubborn fats there I wanna get rid off – fast, if I could. Ok, here’s my score which I did yesterday (Friday, 2/25/11) at my lunch break:
    Mountain Climber, 20 = 10 sets (or 200 reps)
Toe Touches = 9 sets and 10 reps (or 190 reps)

Extra for my abs: Gymboss: 8 10/20 (4 mins)
    Foot-to-foot crunches = 23
    Alternating Curls Abs = 16
    Push Through = 20
    4 Time Abs = 10
    Arm Reaching Crunches = 14
Leg Up Touch Crunches = 10
    Cross Arm Crunches = 12
    Double Crunches = 11

Yay, too painful for a lot of abs contracting but I really love it. :)

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Maria-Lanier/100000216811315 Maria Lanier

I’m your opposite. I LOVE mountain climbers!!! :D

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Maria-Lanier/100000216811315 Maria Lanier

You’re an inspiration!!! Congratulation and keep bodyrocking. :)

  • http://www.janetspreiter.com Janet

Hmmm. Looks like I goofed. I thought it seemed too easy, darnit!
I did 20 sets in the 10 minutes. However, I did not bring my legs back down each time (kept them in the air), so it was more of a pulse effect. Maybe I will correct my error later on today and repost. Sigh.

  • Anonymous

OMG! I did this challenge yesterday and WOWSERS! Man I am feeling this today! But it`s a great feeling!

  • Dheana

High Five Diane! What an insipration…you followed your heart and look where it’s lead you! This is the path of goodness and you’re walking it out every day. Congrats and keep up the good work. We’re all in this together!

I have to to a post workout report on this one…what an AWESOME AB WORKOUT!

I doubled up the challenge with the I’m Crazy But You Like It challenge, which I missed earlier this week, so I did both back to back…that, on top of yesterday’s Push Me Workout, and my abs have NEVER felt this sore! I can actually FEEL my six pack today (under a little extra padding that will someday shrink) but I can FEEL it – and WHAT A FEELING!

I LOVED this challenge – thanks so much! :-)

BTW, I did 10 rounds of this and 47 rounds of the Crazy But You Like It series = awesome!

  • Annie_B

This is a great abs workout guys.Thank you so much!! My abs were on fire. Mountain climbers are like little break lol. I completed 10 sets + 20 reps M.C and another 4 toe touches.
Then I jumped right into Touch It Exercise Challenge ( I’m sooo behind and trying to catch up) .I did 47 sets total. Plus another 15 minutes skipping :) Wheeww!! I’ll be doing 400 Rep workout tomorrow…see ya!!

  • Samantha

I loved the video with the piano stairs. Fun is always good motivation. What did anyone else get on this challenge? I got 8 complete rounds of each.

  • Donna

Did this one on Monday and I completed 7 sets of mountain climbers and 6 sets of toe touch. My abs looked amazing after this challenge. Thanks Zuzana and Freddy :) XoXo

  • Kaz Kaz68

i combined this challenge with another 10 min challenge today
knee ups without jump rope 220
    knee tucks 120
    mountain climb 210
    toe touches 210
also did the workout were you do 3 walking pushups on mat with jump and side lung twice in gym this week, once on my own 30 reps in 14 mins and once with friend an trainer 33 reps in 12 mins.my arms are killing after over 180 pushups.
love all the workouts thanks chick.x

kind of feeling bit discouraged:( anyway, was not sure if i had to lower and raise my legs for each rep when doing toe reaches> did 16 rounds of 10 30 jump rope. lost my jump rope so had new one which I kept tripping on! got on my nerves!!! Anyway, I guess I have to accept my body for what it is. I must continue on no matter what w/BodyRock!!! Diet isn’t bad, although last night was so upset that i deprive of some of my favorites, like coffee…so i make a homemade resees peanut butter cup and ate it

  • http://twitter.com/cschuurr Chelsea Schuur

Just did this workout for the second time! The first time I did it I completed 7 rounds total and I achieved the same amount this time as well. I don’t remember the last time I did this I just know I have it written down in my Zuzana exercise log book haha. My friends did it with me though this time at the gym as our warm up which was pretty fun! They loved it! Thanks Zuz & Freddy you guys are amazing <3

  • MinnaK

Yaaaayyy! I LOVE this one! Done this 2 times before but this time im sure i’m not gonna beat my personal best but it’s cool, im doing my best anyway :)

  • Anonymous

Oh LORDY!!! I remember this one! My abs hurt for days!!….can’t wait to tyr and best my PB!

  • Anonymous

Half the time I do these workouts, it’s on my lunch break at a park. I usually am leading a small group of my coworkers. There are always other people in the park, & often they have children. I love the kids, because the little ones ALWAYS stop to watch us, & start jumping around & mimicking us. It’s so cute! It reminds me of the exact point you made: when we were kids, these are the same types of things we did for fun. The adults usually give us funny looks, but who cares, right? Besides, in the last 2 weeks that there are other little groups working out in the park. :)

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1746562272 Cynthia Hannah

This one is great , love mountain climbers , my score 22 sets completed in 10 min countdown .
Now, I am off to take care of some Easter Rabbit business ;) Have a good night!

  • http://www.facebook.com/ildiko.mazar Ildikó Sünci Mázár

I cannot remember how I did last time, but I’m pretty sure I did beat my score:
6 complete sets, 20 MCs and 9 toe touches is today’s achievement. No time for skipping :-( but I’ll do more tomorrow.

  • AudraFit

This time around I completed 7 rounds + 20 MC’s & 17 toe touches. I also did it correctly legs to the ground each time as my abs are strong enough now :)

  • http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage.asp?id=VW_STEPH Stephanie

Gosh this one is SO tough!!! I wasn’t going to do this after 5 mins of intense high knees, but thought best not to wait until tomorrow!
    Old score = 5 rounds
    Today’s score = 4 rounds + 20MCs & 12 toe touches.
Darn! Think I must be in need of a rest day haha.
FANTASTIC scores to you other BodyRockers! =D
    Thank you F&Z! x

Hey guys..did this one yesterday but didn’t have the time to record my scores for y’all as it was Easter Sunday after all….

Either those are my rectus abdominis muscles I feel or I’ve seriously bruised the upper portion of my ribs as a result of the leg raise and toe touch combo exercise. Don’t get me wrong…obviously effective, but WOWSERS I’m in some serious pain here people!

The first time I did this was on Feb 26th–5 sets for each exercise
The second time was on Mar 8th–5 sets/each (no improvement :(
The third time Apr 24th–6 sets of each exercise..(the toe touches really slowed me down)

This is the first time I’m seeing all of my results compared to one another and I have to admit, I was hoping for more of an improvement, but it is what it is.

Anyhoo…..better luck next time I suppose.

  • Anonymous

Those are crazy numbers!..how in the heck did you do that???

  • KIMBERLAKE93

ANY improvement is an amazing thing!! Stay POSITIVE and be proud of yourself that you have improved (there always seems to be very little room left for improvement as your results are always insane!) Be PROUD of yourself…cause I’M proud of you! :)

  • Margot

When I first did this in March, I only did 4 sets and a little change. Today, I did 5 full sets! I’m happy to see the improvement. :-)

    Hey Guys,

WOW, this is a Killer for your abs.

I did a 20min run before this workout and I am not sure whether or not it was a good thing?

All I know is that the toe touch does take up most of the time to control the downward movement of my legs. My lower abs really felt it.

My Score: was 6 sets in 10min. I feel quite proud.

This is only my 2nd week of training, and I can see and improvement.

Every little counts guys. whether its an increase in sets or running distance or shortening the time to run a certain route, its all an improvement.

Work hard and enjoy the satisfaction of the results.Good Luck and enjoy your workouts coz its for YOU and no one else.

    Thanks Bodyrock.tv

  • Mary Lou

I am so going to feel this later! I did this back on 2/7 and did 5.5 rounds. Today (6/6) I did more than 6.5! 6 rounds + 20 mtn climbers and 7 toe touches. Yay!

  • http://dragonfly180.wordpress.com/ dragonfly180

freddie, i just reread your blog post above, and it’s so dead-on! the negativity we get from others is just fear. they are afraid to look at their own behavior, afraid to compare themselves to us, and afraid of what we’re thinking of them. great post!

this is one of my favs, and i did it again tonight. after several months, i went from 160 reps (8 sets) of each exercise in 10 minutes to 200 reps (10 sets) of each in 10 minutes! and this time, it was after a 2 mile run, not fresh like i was the first time i did it :o) yay for progress!

  • Mo

100+90 in total. Absolutely killer for my abs!

    hi guys!

did this sucker today! did 7 rounds plus 20 mountain climbers plus 17 toe touches.   not better than last scores but I just finished 4 early morning 10 hour shifts  when I normally work evenings.  everyone I’m working with asks “are you crazy? you work out when you get home?”

    I am a proud bodyrocker!

  • http://profiles.google.com/patrice.read Patrice Read

Here I thought doing 5 sets would be easy. No way! The toe touches were the hardest. Did 6 sets plus 20 MC and 7 TT. Feeling pumped! Time to do another workout!

  • Anonymous

8 sets of each, abs burnin! YESSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!

  • Kendra

    Wow.  That is…wow.

Okay, so, I’m not an actual parent (yet?) but I am a step parent, and let me just say that being the best YOU is the best example you can set for your kids.  My boyfriend (yeah, I said step parent–the only thing different is that we aren’t actually married) and I are both actors, so of course, this issue has come up in numerous forms.  But we’re very happy, and very healthy.  So are our kids.  Doing what you love and feeling good yourself sets a good example for your kids.

Of course, I’m preaching to the choir here!

I had a couple of boyfriends who really didn’t understand my need to exercise, and it was really hurtful.  I would get flak for pushing our date back 45 minutes because I wanted to go to the gym after work.  But those boyfriends didn’t work out!  HA!  Wait, that was a pun.  They didn’t work out at the gym, and they didn’t work out for me as boyfriends. :)

off to tackle this workout for the second time, hoping to improve my score!!

thanks again for the wonderful workouts and the support here on bodyrock.

  • Sara_hare

6 sets plus 20 mountain climbers. Plus 5 burpees for Erin and whoever else needs them. :) Thanks Zuzka and Freddy!

  • guest

I find Freddy’s post very interesting, as I have recently been noticing negative behaviour more this year, then I ever have in previous years. I believe the negative attitude towards people who exercise is a defense mechanism, as they may be frustrated with themselves, and may be unhappy with how they feel or look, so they project these feelings onto those who are doing what they want to do, but maybe do not know how or where to start. I find this within corporate gyms, and my school gym the most. Within my school gym, people are constantly sizing each other up, watching others do exercises, and then critiquing each other on a) their body type b) exercises they are performing and c) exercise form/technique. I find this very frustrating, and it makes me not want to go to the corporate gyms or my school gym..

This is why the body rocking community is so special to me, no matter what modification you do, or how many times you body rock in a week, or whether of not you complete a full exercise routine or not, you are always supported with unconditional enthusiasm and support.  So thank you to Freddy, Zuzanna, and the whole body rocking community…for being awesome. :)

    Disturbing fact:
In Canada alone, over 50% of our youth will have a shorter lifespan then their parents due to being inactive. In other words, parents will be outliving their children. Very sad.

  • BodyRocker_Bonnie

I am previewing this workout before doing it tomorrow, and I realized that I have done it wrong the last two times I did this.  For the toe touches I was doing complete V-Ups crunches to touch my toes.  No wonder I could hardly get through this workout without many sets.  20 of those take a while!

  • BodyRocker_Bonnie

Good Morning, Zuzka!  Will you be sharing your scores on this workout since you were down with your dental work the day this was posted in February?

  • V.I.G.

    10 sets:)

  • BodyRocker_Bonnie

8 full sets, plus 20 mnt climbers and 3 toe touches in the 10 minutes.  Then I followed it up with the Beat Your Meat Suit 10 minute challenge (11:18) and dedicated all my 50 burpees to Erin and her strong family.  (New name for that workout…?…Burpee-Hop Slam Challenge perhaps?)  If you BR’s haven’t tried this one its great cardio/strength quickie! I keep coming back to this one.

Everyone have a great day.  Erin, I am hoping you are doing well and feeling stronger each day.

  • Vivi

    8 full sets + 20 climbers & 10 toe touch.

  • KIMBERLAKE93

    Awesome!  I feel great!….5 K Run plus 10 Burpees!
8 Full sets plus 20 Mountain Climbers!

    Thanks Zuz and Freddy!
    CHEERS!  :)

competed 15 sets of this in 10 minutes thanks again Zuzka and Freddy :)

  • Sara_hare

Haha, wow, I made this WAY harder for myself  by keeping my arms
extended over my head the entire time I was raising and lowering my
legs, rather than having them by my side.  No wonder I was having a
harder time than I expected! I still managed 6 sets, plus an extra set
of mountain climbers. I could barely sit up in the bath afterwards!

    Hi Victoria,
Arika just commented on quieting crackling joints the other day under Wicked Things Workout so maybe this will help you?:

Advice for cracking in the joints not accompanied by pain: plain jello.
If you’re not a vegetarian or vegan then you can eat this to stop the
cracking when you exercise.  A couple of my friends used this method
while I was in school for personal training. One day I heard cracking
and then about a week later, it stopped. I don’t know why it works so
    well but it does.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=706388249 Tori Larson Bradford

I managed to squeak out two more sets plus 11 mtn. climbers  then last time.  This was perfect for today.  I didn’t get to the Abs Now workout this week so I might tackle that tomorrow.

  • BodyRocker_Bonnie

P.S., Freddy, I wanted to say I appreciate what you wrote above.  Fighting off Brutus (within ourselves) is one challenge, but lacking the support from others in our lives is like dealing with Brutus’ siblings.

  • Sarah G

5 sets and 20 MC’s, and 12 Toe touches in 10 minutes! I’m quite happy with that. Next goal is 6 sets! :D Today was jsut a crazy busy day, so I needed a short workout! :) Thanks for coming back to this one!

  • Liliya

that’s so true,Denitsa! thank you so much for sharing :) I totally agree with you! I’m 19 and I SO wish I was a kid again and sometimes I do act like one and I don’t really care about what other people think about it or whether they have any judgments, cause the reason they do judge other and hurt each other is actually not their fault , but because they were hurt of judged before by someone else. (that’s really sad and one of the reasons not to take everything that happens around you too seriously :) And I’m not saying that I’m perfect, cause I’m so not lol but doing this workouts makes you feel better about yourself . You are more confident and you’re stronger both physically and mentally, and it’s true, you do start realizing things on a completely new level. For instance I have never really been concerned about what I eat (not that I ate junk all the time lol, but you know, sugar, pastries, bread, deep fried food etc., just simple empty calories that are not any good for you) and now every time I buy something I thoroughly read the ingredient list lol ..I do fail from time to time with my diet though..stupid chocolate goodies!! :D
I am just really grateful for all the hard work that Zuzana and Freddy do here) it changes our lives to the best, YOU,guys, are changing our lives :)Love <3p.s. it's probably the longest comment I have ever left so far tehe :]

  • BodyRocker_Bonnie

HI Dena, congratulations on your plunge into your new life :) You are among friends.  Don’t give up, there is unlimited support here!

  • BodyRocker_Bonnie

Hi Stefan, Zuzka does a rolling knee tuck with push-up in the Teenage Dream (formerly Summer Abs) Workout like what you were describing.  I don’t have a big exercise ball but I do this with my Ugi and its a great core/upper body combo, I love it.

  • KIMBERLAKE93

    Ummmmm…. WOW! That’s awesome, girl!! :)
First of all, I think it’s fantabulous!!!!!
Secondly, no I have not been running for a long time. In fact, I hate it LOL. I do it for myself more as a mental thing than physical. I’ve NEVER been a runner, ever. I’ve been a part of sports teams my whole life but never was I one of those runners-I always thought those people were insane! LOL. I’ve ran on the treadmill before many times but was never an outdoors runner until I was up North this summer on holidays. I only ran 2 days during the 6 I was there and I really enjoyed it. Once I got home, I heard about a nice trail close to my home so I had a big urge to try it out. I’ve been running it almost daily for about a month. We’re guesstimating the length of the trail is 5K to the water and I go a bit further than that. The whole run takes me about 30-35 minutes. So if you’re doing 5K in 21:04, I personally think that’s pretty remarkable. I’ve also been told that “distance shouldn’t always be measured by time”. I guess if you’re training for a marathon it’s important but if your goal is weight loss, you must keep your heart rate under a specific target range so speed wouldn’t apply here. It all depends on your reasons for running and what your target goals are. Do you luv running? For me, it’s a mental thing. Since I’m not a technical runner, it’s truly one of the greatest accomplishments for me every day. I struggle through it and it’s never easy but I always finish cause…that’s what us BodyRockers do! :)

Today I worked really hard on my form, and didn’t bother about speed.  Because of that I completed only 3 sets of Mountain Climbers, and 2 sets plus 13 reps of the Toe Touches.  I did the Toe Touches by completely lowering and raising my legs each rep, and keeping my arms extended as I raised and lowered my upper body.  I’m still not strong enough in the abs to actually touch my toes with this move yet, though.  I moved up as high as I could, but it wasn’t high enough.  I also worked hard on pushing my lower back into the mat- I felt it today and realized that I hadn’t been doing it right before.

By the way, Dena – I’m only .5″ taller than you, so I completely understand that with being short it seems like gaining ANY weight affects how clothes fit since there’s not as much room for distribution on our smaller frames.  But loosing even one pound also makes a great difference….so just know as you start BR’ing those initial quick results are going to feel SO good!

Yay for another short Bodyrocker! I’m 4′ 11″ and had my second c-section 7 months ago. I allowed myself to gain a lot of weight with the pregnancy, and really wanted to take it off. When you’re short, you have less space for weight, so it seems to show easier. Am I right? I think I was about 145 lbs after baby. Seriously, stick to Bodyrock. Do a workout every day. If a new one isn’t posted, pick an old one. Your body will thank you, your abs will be fine, and you will lose weight, no joke. It didn’t happen in one month or even two for me. But since March when I started, I can see that I have lost weight, I’ve dropped sizes, and doing a workout is a part of the day. My husband has noticed too and likes what he sees, but I like it even more. You will too so now that you’ve started, don’t stop! So glad you’ve finally taken the plunge! It only gets better from here!

thanks for the tip!  i will try that next time!  as for diet, i don’t eat terribly and avoid all fast food and junk food.  i am going to try for a cleaner diet though and see how that works out.  :)

  • CC

sounds like we are having the same isses.  relieved to know that i’m not alone, BUT frustrated for the both of us for obvious reasons…the ever present bulge!  i, too, will try for a cleaner diet and will not give up!  yes, good luck to us!  :)

I did this workout for the second time this morning. I made it through 6 sets each time. I love these workouts!

  • GoustiFruit

I think I got it wrong again !? Can someone explain the Toe Touch: do you have to lift your legs and back to the floor for each rep, or do you lift your legs once and then do toe touches while maintaining them lifted ??? I started with the first variation but it was crazy hard so I switched to the second after 3 rounds :’-(

  • GoustiFruit

    I hope that’s it, or I have a big problem ! Seeing everybody’s doing around 10, when I was dying after only 2 rounds…

  • BodyRocker_Bonnie

Hi Dena, I was just reading through this string of posts again and thought I’d say HI hows it going? since you posted this.  Good I hope…bodyrock on… :) !

just redid this today, and I did 10 sets each…. last time I did 5 of each lol but I think it was because I was lifting both my butt and my shoulders off the floor :D! But none the less I feel great, have one more workout to do today :D, and then some pilates or skipping haha not sure yet which!

  • http://www.facebook.com/kendra.oberhauser Kendra Lee Oberhauser

Just did this!  Ab OUCHIE!  Confused about the toe touches, because sometimes I see Zuz or someone do them and the legs stay up and just the shoulders come down and up each round.  But I took the description literally and lowered my legs down for each rep which is A LOOOT harder.  It gets to where I couldn’t do more than 4-5 at a time.  It’s also a lot harder if the legs don’t come all the way down, but almost to the ground, and then up.  So, whether or not I did it right, I got a great ab workout in!

7 rounds (well…3 toe touches short, so I finished out the round)
