Stress Makes Me Fat

Hi BodyRockers,

I wanted to start a discussion about something that has been on my mind since receiving comments that I look like I have been perhaps “eating a little bit too much lately”. I made a video starting to talk about my own diet struggles and how difficult it can be to stick with healthy eating that supports your training. Watch the video and share your thoughts and experiences in the comments below. This is just the first part of a wide ranging discussion about all of the common issues that we face around food and diet. I hope that you guys will participate because there is a real opportunity here not only to support each other but also learn from each other’s experiences.

Best,

Zuzana.

It is so nice to hear of your struggles because I can relate. We are not perfect but the best we can do is get back up again when we realize we are off track!

  • http://dragonfly180.wordpress.com/ dragonfly180

if not for emotional eating, i wouldn’t even be a bodyrocker. i’d be a lazy couch bum :oD

  • Andrea

Eating clean seems like it would be so easy and yummy but it’s SO hard. I live alone and have almost always been alone, no partner to share a lifestyle with or share cooking duties or to share my improvements. So, many MANY times when I’m trying to make myself choose a salad over something else I realize it feels like Punishment! Punishment, to eat healthy. Punishment to “have” to have oatmeal instead of bacon and eggs. Intellectually, I know better, but that’s just what I notice when trying to choose healthy options. And you don’t looke fat, Zuzana. Ignore haters. :)

You sound very mature for 15 years old – I couldn’t put together a sentence when I was your age :) haha

People are crazy! You look A-mazing. I think they were hoping you were pregnant but you do not look pregnant! Thank you for sharing your struggles and being real. I have bigger eating struggles than cashews   though :) I eat carbs with every meal even if I didnt work out ‘gasp’ how awful and i eat out way too much but i get so busy working and tired that its the easy way out. I’m like you I know exactly what to eat and exactly what to do and I could probably map out a perfect well balanced nutritious eating plan but I do not DO it,  the hardest part is doing it. I will try though and I love bodyrocking! Some day i will get it balanced I’ll just keep trying.

  • Taylor

Zuzana I hope you don’t take any of those negative comments to heart bc you look amazing as always… I doubt there is anyone out there that can say they follow a “perfect” diet
Anyways thank you, and Freddy of course, for everything you do! Enjoy LA :)

  • Sara L.

Whoever thought you were eating too much probably had their screen blown up, and even then the only thing you could see would be your toned muscles!
Your great Zuzi Keep it Up!

  • Missyleng

I don’t see it! You look great, keep it going we need you! Please! I am goin to do all I want for Christmas is abs, workout tomorrow. How about you guys which one are you doing?

  • Anonymous

I can’t believe people asked if you are pregnant.  If I get to half the level of fitness you are at, I’ll be ecstatic.  However, it’s great to know you also struggle with diet.  Exercise is so much easier for me to commit to than sticking to a clean diet.  I try to eat in moderation & eat cleanly.  I believe portion size is my main issue.  I don’t eat a ton of food, but my body composition has not changed as dramatically as I thought it would since I began your workouts.  That tells me I need to cut back on my portions.

My main diet challenge is my sweet tooth.  I love sweets, & fruit usually isn’t a great substitute if I want chocolate.  My way of dealing with it is that I will eat a little chocolate from a 1/4 cup mixed in with an equal amount of almonds.  Probably too many calories, but I figure it’s better than a candy bar or cookie, & at least something healthy is paired with the chocolate!

    Thanks for this video. :)

I´m passing thru same problems, but my own problems are a litlle worse, I´ve been eating too much and I´m eating wrong… when I fell sad, or stressed I eat, but it´s like Zuzana, when it´s too much I don´t eat at all… It´s  very bad to my shape because I´m that kind of person who only gets fat in the belly and it shows so quickly (only 2 or 3kgs makes a huge difference) than I imagine how fast our bodies gets the fat back, because it´s so difficoult to loose it.. Today I did the hot attack workout but I did a litlle more sets, because I felt I was in really need for more, this belly fat gets me crazy!! And toghether comes a lot of more insecurities that I know I shouldn´t associate with my physical form but I won´t lie, I associate my happyness with my physical form.. it´s terrible, but I think I´ll get my form again soon…
Thanks a lot for sharing your experience, but I have to say that you´re still looking awesome!! Just a litlle more muscular but still awesome! Don´t hear anyone who tells other ways!!
Thanks again and always Z and Freddy!

No part of your body will increase because of a particular exercise. You body increases in size only if you feat it with more food. All of the workouts and exercises that I do will make you tight but not necessarily slimmer or bigger. Thank you for the compliment tho :)

  • http://twitter.com/FlaviaRequim Flavia Requim

I thought the same here, how can anyone ask her if she´s pregnant?

  • http://twitter.com/FlaviaRequim Flavia Requim

     Same here… we´re all the same !

Love  “Strong is the new Skinny!”

I, too, have been struggling with my eating lately. I’m still being good about one helping, smaller portions, but I’m slipping in those cravings like a tiny bit of ice cream or a little slice of lemon square… only I don’t stop with once in a while, I do it almost every day a couple of times a day. It’s certainly slowed down my fat loss. It’s certainly to do with stress and not feeling supported in my fitness goals. Feeling a bit like a freak for wanting to do this and making it such a priority in my life. The results are WORTH it, but sometimes it’s so difficult to keep the motivation up when you hear from others that they wouldn’t ever want to do it.

I find that if I’m working out regularly and really feeling it the next day in soreness or that “I really used that muscle” feeling (which is hard for me to do when I do it regularly, my body doesn’t hurt so much after each workout anymore!!) that’s when I can be super good with my diet. Probably because my self-esteem and self-worth are up and my stress is down because I did what I set out to do – WORK OUT! I’m nearly satisfied with where my body is at, but I am want to get a little slimmer and I want to keep getting stronger and stronger.

DIET is the key, but it’s the hardest part. Thanks for bringing this discussion to your site – your approach to fitness is so refreshing. Honesty, passion, integrity, information, inspiration and not charging us money for all of that?!?!!  Beautiful – inside and out.

  • Heather

It’s awesome in theory but for me I binge and then I let the bad stuff creep in more and more until I’m eating something I ought not eat EVERY day. When I can keep it to Fridays (for example), it does seem to work for me… and having one ‘big’ weekend every five or six weeks seems to let my body know it doesn’t need to stall out and plateau on losing weight and gaining strength.

  • Rachel Cross

Diet is absolutely, 100% the hardest thing for me to control. I LOVE working out, I love moving and bodyrocking and being fit, but when it comes to dieting, I just have zero self-control!

Let me put it this way, I’ve been in the gym for about 7 months now, and I still weigh THE SAME (and I’m about 35 pounds overweight). Yes, I’m a bit more solid, but it’s not all muscle, believe me. I sabotage myself by eating what I want and as much as I want. I’ve tried to psych myself up, push myself, encourage myself, even brainwash myself… but it all seems to not matter once I get a craving. I’m stuck, and beginning to get really frustrated. Is there any hope for an overeating bodyrocker like me? :(♥

  • Ziba

yes!! how the hell :S ..she doesnt even look like she gained weight.. i dont believe it… if someone did say that…they’re only jealous and trying to make her feel bad and be conscious about her body .. in a bad way .. .’

dont listen to them Zuzana! you still look the same and ur body is a goal for i believe all the women on bodyrock .. i know it’s my goal…

  • Anonymous

Hi zuzanna! Omg I’m having the same problem I was perfect for two weeks and them I just binged. Do you believe in cheat meals? If so how do you eat?

  • Anonymous

I have a HUGE problem with boredom and emotional eating!! I grew up as a junk food junkie, and a sugarholic! I totally still have it in me. I have found that if I give into the really bad stuff that I love like chinese food and ice cream and… yes… fast food (mmmm jack in the box tacos… mmmm) That it just starts a HUGE snowball effect. I really feel like sugar and junk food are like drug on the body, like heroin or something. Once it makes it into your system, your body wants MORE!! And once I come to my senses and try to get back on track, its like going through drug withdrawls!! Like today, I was sitting at work and I could just feel this incredible craving for sugar, like a monster in my body making me crazy! I seriously almost ate a spoonful of hotfudge and peanut butter! Horrible I know!! The best way I know to control this is to simply do something else. GET BUSY!! Everytime you want to eat something bad, drink some water and think of something you actually should be doing right then, and do it. Most of the time, you forget about your craving. And I try to remember how hard it will be and how terrible I will feel trying to get back on track after my diet splurge. And also, how just a little junk food can cancel out most of a good workout :-(  oh and by the way, if anyone wants to follow me on my weight loss journey, I’m on Youtube: MsBeautyfulDisaster  :-)

You are PERFECT! Please don’t listen others because those comments are just ridiculous.
But anyway,I’m glad that you bring this up. I do your workouts every day, even 2x a day..but during the weekends..I just loose myself in junk. :D And I don’t stop at one chocolate or sth..and that behavior is stopping me from moving forward with my goals and I’m really frustrated with that. My whole progress that I made during the week is destroyed in one or two days. And every monday I need to start all over again..and than I need to work all week to get that junk out..and when I manage to do that, guess what? weekend is here. And this lasts now for whole month and it’s really time to stop this circle. I gained 2-3kg so I really hope that you will post more about diet or sth. I understand all your advices and agree with every single word but sometimes is just hard to follow that. Thanks for this video, I really needed it. :) Well, I hope things will get better for all of us. Good luck everyone! :)

I would say ask your Mum if you can go grocery shopping with her, and pick out a few things for yourself. Hopefully shes not too offended by that. What a tough situation!

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Alana-Stacy/698175600 Alana Stacy

I know EXACTLY how you feel- I’ve been dieting and bodyrocking for about the same time as you and haven’t lost a POUND, INCH or ANYTHING! Its very frustrating, because you get this notion of what you’re going for in your head, and when you don’t see the results being delivered its rather disheartening. :( I’m still going strong though, and I do over eat as well.. I just try not to!

  • http://twitter.com/IronFistGirl Tara Fox

There are some real inconsiderate people out there and I honestly believe the people who are saying these comments to you are just jealous and are not serious about following you and your website or even listening to you for that matter.

You are beautiful as we all are just the way we are, imperfections and all.  Yeah sometimes we maybe bloated for whatever reasons – stress, fluid, bingeing, pms, eating the wrong kinds of food for you body eg – when i eat rice, white flour i feel so bloated i cant move so i just decided to cut these out complete.  Still its not up to so called followees or fans to inform you.  We all know when stuff is going on in our lives or when our bodies are not feeling 100% and dont need people pointing them out.  If you havent got anything nice to say dont say it at all, what ever happened to old fashion manners people.  Im sorry you had to read those emails Zuzanna especially after everything you guys do for the Bodyrock community and with your own personal lives. Just listen to your body ;) just like u tell us.   Dieting will be an on going issue and i believe we all struggle with it somewhat , no ones perfect ………maybe obsessive but not perfect.  Moderation is key sometimes this works sometimes it doesnt but u can always pick your self back up again.

Thanks for this video I think its great that you will be doing these kind of talks, as we all need it sometimes.

  • Donna

Hi Zuzana and Freddy, Zuzana I know what you are going through because I was there 3 weeks ago and many times before that:( So I’m glad to hear that we are all the same when it comes to diet:) When you over-eat after being good with no cheating it goes straight to your stomach so you can look and feel pregnant but I would never say that to someone and upset or offend them:)
I am going into my third week with eating clean, by that I mean no junk food whatsoever, no fried foods, no sugars, no processed foods, no high saturated fat foods:) Only nourishing good foods allowed with plenty of lean protein and H20:) Some days it’s super easy and other days it’s really hard:)
I love Pistachio’s but instead of putting myself a whole big bowl I have 30g which is approx 46 shelled pistachio’s:) I must admit that I do feel better about myself when I stick to both diet and exercise:) I can happily do this for say 3-6 months then something happens and I can’t stop eating chocolate or potato chips:( We all know once you start cheating it’s hard to stop:( I am not one of those people that can’t have a bite of chocolate and be happy:( I either want the whole chocolate bar or nothing…lol I come for a large Greek family and we love our food:) Sometimes I wish I could be more like Nigella and not worry to much about body image:) I love the way she opens the fridge on camera and dives in for whatever takes her fancy and really enjoys her high sugar and butter intake:)
Today I went back to an old workout that I had missed back in Jan “Ready to sweat” and I really enjoyed it:) I did high knees instead of just skipping because I am a pro at them after 1000 reps in “Red hot girl” workout two days ago:) This was my 103rd BR workout and I still have12 more workouts/challenges to catch up on since I became a body-rocker back in December:)
    These are my scores;
Combo 1.Side to side push ups & forward/back jumps 19 Sets
    4min high knees 68,59,49,49,50,46,57,55
Combo 2.Walking push ups 4x duck under jump up 19 Sets
    4min high knees 63,49,49,51,45,51,43,49
Combo 3. 3x low jack & diamond runner push up 21.5 sets
I also find that if you stick to your diet then BR workouts are easier to complete:) It’s no fun working out with a bloated stomach because you ate to much of the wrong food the night before:( Try remember this because most people tend to cheat at night, including me three weeks ago:)
Love and kisses to you both:) If I ever met you two you do know you would get the Greek kisses on both cheeks with a huge hug and a plate of sweets…lol

    Hi Parrot,

You are not alone in having to contend with parents or family not understanding your goals.  Young people have over the couple years I’ve been here asked similar questions.  I’m not sure what the answers for you might be.  That you can workout at all and that you understand the basics of good health are big pluses.  Other haven’t always been so lucky.

The rice and curry actually sound pretty good to me.  My general impression of Guyanese cuisine was that it was pretty healthy with the vegetables, beans and the  rice being key parts of a meal.  Maybe you could  help cook and suggest different dishes in the tradition but that have more veggies and balance things better.  Also this way you could make sure the portions are smaller for you and you could eat less rice that might be normal.  But, you’re young and need these things to build your muscles and to grow.

School menus can be horrible and prices are crazy.  You can’t brown bag it?  Again by making your own lunches you would be controlling your intake.  Also if possible take PE and go out for any sports they have and of course drink plenty of water!

    Take care,
    –Chris
PS We (the community of Bodyrockers) are always here and if I can help let me know.

you look always beautiful zuzana, my problems are snacks, I eat healthy but I snack everything nuts candy etc..and sometimes is so hard to eat right, sometimes you just feel that you need that chocolate or something that satisfy you, and then I feel bad because I´m sabotage my diet and did my workout for nothing,it´s kind of circle and that happens a lot if I´m at home and don´t have nothing to do…winter is the worst..Thank you for sharing your story as well and to show that you are human as well:)

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Lauren-Lafitte/1123341759 Lauren Lafitte

Ever since October of last year, when things got hard, I turned to food. I turned to food in a way like never before. I was eating so much that I even thought maybe I needed to go talk to someone. I put on 18 lbs and I feel every bit of it. I never stopped working out so that saved me a bit but I still sabotaged all my efforts. Then I realized recently that it was stress that was causing me to eat so much..mainly sugar. Yes I was hooked..on sugar. Stressed caused the eating and stress caused the cycle to continue. The more I gained the more I ate and so on and so on. I was stuck in a vicious cycle of sugar highs and sugar lows. I was sinking into a depression like never before and the more sugar I ate the more depressed I became. My point is this..we all have an addiction to food, some worse than others. I have began to pull myself back together and looking at my overeating asan addiction has helped me put the junk food down. I know that I will forever struggle with my relationship with food but seeing that I am not alone gives me so much strength. I thank everyone here for sharing there story. You guys have comforted me in so many ways.

  • http://squeezetheday.wordpress.com/ Jessy

I agree, she looks even better now!.But even if she didn’t – who cares? The important thing is to be healthy and feel good!

  • Donna

    Hi Lily.

Your words are so true about Zuzana:)

  • Kayla

Just…wtf.  You are beautiful, perfect, wonderful, etc.  Anyone who says you are eating too much is seriously gross.  I don’t believe in starving yourself, or severely limiting yourself, in the name of “health”.  I believe in health at every size, I believe that it is OK to indulge and enjoy yourself.  You are only here once, after all, and I believe in enjoying that time and yes, that includes food.

Honestly, as much as I love this site for the workout “yeah, I did it!” support, I also hate this site, which is loaded with fatphobia, and a general lack of understanding when it comes to each person’s personal health status.  Eff anyone who is saying you have been eating too much. Eff them.

    Zuzi,
I think you look amazing. About you eating more, I have to tell you I have been experiencing the same problem! I am graduating just now and unfortunately this year it has turned into a long period thing. Instead of one day of horror, the graduating students have the exams and tests for about a month. I started with my first exam April 27th ad I finish June 1st. But then you have to wait for the results till the 20th and in the mean time there are admission test for universities. I am freaking out! I have exams coming up out of Biology and chemistry, the long time stress is killing me. I am a person who likes to chill out, do everything his way and I just enjoy life. I have realized I just eat all the time! I am studying and I keep eating anything what’s on the plate. If its pieces of apple, almonds, cranberries…On the other hand my friend from school can’t eat anything! She lost so much weight and the looks like a walking mummy :( Pale and unhealthy.  I really can’t wait to get this all over with. This Tuesday and  Thursday are my D-days and I really hope I pass. I have started studying very hard just yesterday, because when I learn anything in advance I forget 3 days later. :D So it’s 30 topis from biology and 30 from chemistry… Pfff JEŽIŠMARJA! :D

I wanted to ask you if you would consider posting a week “menu” what you are eating. i just seiously am running out of ideas. I know there’s a lot you can find out by reading and getting info, but I just don’t have the time right now and I would love ti improve my eating habits a little more. Know precisely how much of what. i am also trying to get my mom to become a bodyrocker. But she thinks eating super healthy basically means eating food that’s not very tasty. I would be happy if anyone helped with my diet! :)
I really became addicted to bodyrock and you guys!!!!!!!!!!

    Bodyrock, let’s rock! :)

    Hi Zuzana,

We all struggle with our diet.  Even when we know better.

That you’re a bit stressed out is of more concern to me than that people thinking your getting fat.  As many have already pointed out your not.  If anything you look more radiant than ever.

But, I get your point.  I find walnuts…okay all nuts are hard to pass up and I will eat them as I’m getting some out of the bag and putting them in some “portion” control (read a cup).

I had thought Freddy was joking when he wrote you eat Cashews by the handfuls. How are you gaining control of this habit?  I try to drink some water or milk or eat some raisins in stead, but then I just mix some nuts in the raisins.  :-)

Take care and be at peace,
    –Chris

You might all hate me for this, but I’ll be frank with you: most of the concerns and fears in this video are nonsense in my opinion, and I’m very annoyed that a woman of Zuzana’s body has to be feeling (even remotely) guilty about her weight. How are WE, more humble BodyRockers around the world, supposed to feel after hearing your statements, Zuzana?

Eating healthy and cutting down on the junk is essential, but who does not know that? But eating ‘too much’ fruit? How is that possible? And what IS the right sized portion? We are all different individuals blessed or cursed with different characteristics of metabolism. Why should anybody starve themselves to reach so-called ideal weight?

Medically speaking we all need 1500-2500 kcal intake a day just to sustain ourselves, not taking into account the fuel we need for your killer workouts, Zuzi (http://walking.about.com/cs/calories/l/blcalcalc.htm). I love the ‘earn your carbs’ notion and I’m thankful for BodyRock.TV to have steered me to eating more healthy (and less processed) foods and drink more water, but I’ll never feel scared off a bag of crisps with my movie and my best tip is still:

‘Listen to your body, if you’re hungry, eat, if you crave something, treat yourself to it, just stop eating when you stop being hungry.’ Not that I follow this a 100%, my grandmother trained us too well to never leave food on our plates when we were little :-), so I tend to eat too much when I cannot control my portion, but I’m sorry, I refuse to feel guilty even about that – I’ll do more skipping the next day. All of us who follow Zuzana’s training are demigods and goddesses, and we do deserve to not have to stress too much about diet.

Anyway, I’d rather be slightly imperfect and content than super skinny and frustrated.

    Dear Kelly,

First of all, good luck with your biology and chemistry exams.
RE: new ideas for cooking, I can highly recommend you a web site I just discovered myself about 2 years ago (and cannot grow tired of): BBC GoodFood. I’m telling you, this site is a treasure cove. You can narrow down your selection of recipes according to your liking. Here’s a low calorie, easy and quick to make list of main courses that you may find the time to prepare even during your busy period of exams (you can narrow this down further if you prefer a particular cuisine, vegetarian, etc.):

Donna, you are so right about diet’s effect on workout performance.  I’m still not eating perfectly, but I look at food the way I used to look at expensive clothes when I was trying to get out of debt.  I used to think, “I have to work 4 hours to pay for those jeans.  It’s not worth it.”  Now I look at cookies, wine, bread, etc & think, “My push-ups & jump lunges will be so much harder tomorrow if I eat that!”  I like that my thinking is shifting away from how long I’d have to workout to burn off calories to how much benefit the food I eat will bring to me.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Natalia-Trofimova/704588888 Natalia Trofimova

well i have noticed the slight changes in Zuzi’s body but, honestly, to me it seems like it became even more nicely shaped than before :) and i’m sure anyway Zuzi can take care of her body and control the changes, so no worries for nobody ;)

personally, i have exactly the same problem with my diet as Zuzi does. i might sometimes eat too much fruit and being totally ashamed of that coz even though there’re not many calories, there’s lots of sugar… and anyway “too much” is never good… the last week i had a serious nut problem, starting from monday when i had like three handfuls of them, then i took a break on tuesday and wednesday, but again starting from thursday i had them with my breakfast and my dinner (natural yoghurt to which i add berries, nuts and sometimes honey). nuts are even a worse issue for me than fruit :( since i tend to gain and loose weight quite fast, i’ve noticed a fold on my belly yesterday, which had not been there a week before… so i will strugle to cut down on nuts this week to get rid of that unwelcomed guest :)

and Zuzana, we all so much appreciate that you’ve never behaved like a robot fitness instructor, flawless and ALWAYS sticking with your own rules, nor in the workouts you give us, nor in your diet. it’s greatly inspiring and thank you for that! :)

  • http://profiles.google.com/marlla.singerova Marlla Singerova

I can’t agree with you more, Ildikó.
What is the life about then when we spend it all just thinking about what to eat, when, how much etc. and feeling guilty if we sin? It’s not life anymore, it’s kind of a mental prison and the only prison guard or warden is YOU.
I have been bodyrocker only for a few weeks now
(I’m not even sure if I can call myself that yet:)
, I changed my eating habits, I follow Zuzana’s workouts and advice and I’m also trying to change my way of thinking. I picked one day a week (which is Monday in my case) where I can treat myself to whatever I want and look forward to it all week. But I don’t stress much even if I have a piece of chocolate before the day. As you said, Ildikó, I just add a couple of exercises or few minutes of skipping next day to the workout and that’s it, not a big deal.  And it works. I guess I’ve lost a bit of a weight (I don’t have scales so my belt is the indicator:) although I didn’t really want to and my muscles are more visible which is actually my goal, to be toned.
So gods and goddesses of bodyrock, please, let’s not stress about eating too much once in a while, let’s not torture ourselves, we have only one life and we should enjoy it as much as we can…xx

I know exactly how it feels to try follow the diet and after that break down and start eating what u ve been missing so much! Just in short about me: Im 25 , just moved to a new country back with my parents after 7yrs of independent life. My bfriend lives in another country so its basically distance relationship and it can get soooo tough being apart. So I was getting into fights with my parents for no reason, and  would find the way to cool down or fight my depression with food! but this is horrible i gained few kg and goood i realised it FAST coz my favourite jeans would feel lill too tight! So i decided to fight it by exercising on a daily bases, going for a walk with my sweet lil doggy, or go biking. But lately my food craving came back and Thanks God its SUmmer so u can find plenty of different fresh fruits in the store! Apart from fruits I ve got a lil passion for cooking , but HEALTHY cooking.. so as Im a BIG fan of chocolate I made that chocolate/beans cake and it was amazingly good. I try different healthy recipes with  whole grain pastas, I made yr healthy butter chicken( thank u soo much for that recipe). I said NO to junk food section in the store and i dont even look at ice-creams (I worked for over a YEAR in HAAGEN DAZS and it was crucial for my body and my diet!!) … its tough… But If we dont do it for ourselves who will? Plus by doing sport and keeping a habbit of healthy eating we make our lives longer… So imagine that everyday of healthy life gives u few extra days in yr life long to spend with your loved ones!!! Just look at it this way and Im sure you guys wouldnt go to the store and pick up a bag of chips :))))
    ALways Yr fan Yulia!!!
P.S. Thank u Zuzi and Freddy sooo much for the great job you r doing! Although now i have nobody to join my workouts and push me, I know Out there WE ALL have support of Thousands of bodyrockers ))

    Hi Zuz!
you look great, and I’m wondering where those comments are coming from?  I haven’t seen those posts?  Are they from facebook?   That kind of stuff is exactly why I do not have a facebook account.  I have heard too many times about mean things and dumb posts on there, lots of people do not think before they write, they don’t censor themselves, they just blurt out things.  Since you said you would be doing posts on your facebook page I have gone there and read some of the comments from people, and several of them had saddened me! :(  a girl posted her picture on there and someone wrote she needed to do more sit ups! and she looked great! :(
I don’t care if you gain 10 or 15 lbs as long as you’re still killing me with your workouts and giving me great ideas on how to eat better I’ll still think you’re great!

You too Frederick! and Charlie and Cali (whom I think has great abs Zuz! ha ha)
see you monday for the new workout!

  • Donna

Hello Chris, I never use to buy nuts but ever since Zuzana mentioned she loved cashews I stocked the house with walnuts, brazil nuts, cashews, pistachios and almonds thinking I would be ripped like her in no time:) It’s a nut lovers house here at the moment and it doesn’t help that they come in huge, gigantic bags:) After putting on weight serving myself lovely big bowls I now follow the serving sizes and have lost the weight and don’t have a problem at present:)

You look amazing! Those people have to be jealous.Asking if you’re pregnant geez you look like you’ve gained 1/8 of a pound at the most and you’re body is still rocking! (Obviously haha) I’m glad that you’re the kind of trainer that lets everyone know that you’re not perfect when it comes to your diet. Diet is the hardest part of being healthy! It honestly makes me feel human when I see that even YOU have food problems.

I know my diet isn’t perfect. I eat a lot of the wrong things mainly because no one in my family is as healthy as I am. They try to influence me to eat like they do and I eventually had to grow up and face the fact that I have to take a stand for my own heath. They can laugh at me being a vegetarian or sneer when I’m doing your workouts in the living room, but you know what, this is what I have to do to lead a healthier lifestyle and to help others do the same. But sometimes that stress (among others) will make me go in the kitchen and eat a whole box of crackers or eat french fries until I feel sick. I always feel terrible afterwards but you know what I’m human and so are you! Tomorrow is always a new day.

  • http://www.makavelina.webnode.cz Nina_CZ

Oh Zuzi, thank you doing this video! :) You said that you are not perfect, but I think that admiting this fact makes you perfect :D Perfection is boring :)) We are PEOPLE, it is normal for us to slip sometimes :)
I cook for myself every day, I usually cook 2 portions (sometimes more) and I have that food one day for dinner and next day for lunch. Next day I cook 2 portions of something else and again have it that day for dinner and next day for lunch. This way I am always sure I have at least 2 good meals a day. I only eat oatmeal or quinoa for breakfast, I like it and it is easy for me to make. My biggest struggle are the 2nd and 4th meal of the day. The “morning snack” between breakfast and lunch, is not actually that hard. I am at work, sitting by  computer all day, so I have no problem with getting my snack. But the meal between lunch and dinner is hard to work on :D It is after work, so I usually grab something quickly without thinking about it, and very often it is something “bad.”

Since I am single I only buy good food and real food. I only have fruits, veggies, meat, frozen fruits and veggies, canned tuna and canned beans, occasional blue cheese and parmezan cheese, milk, mushrooms.. I don’t buy any drinks, cause I only dring water and tea (that is the only thing I am 100% in, the drinking) and lately I installed an app to my androind phone that is controlling my water intake. It makes a “water pouring” sound every couple hours (depends on the setting) to remind me to drink my water. So I really have NO junk food around me. BUT!!! When going grocery shopping, I always grab something like chocolate bar and eat it on my way from the store to my house. I always feel so guilty afterwards, because I know that THIS is what is ruining all my hard work. I can’t resist those yummy salty potato chips!!! I just have to have them and I can easy eat like 3-4 packs a week, even AFTER my workout when I take my shower and play a movie to relax a bit. I have a glass of water (lol) and a pack of chips (nooo!). I always try to justify this by: “I worked so hard today, I deserve this treat!” but at the same time I realize how this is sabotaging all my hard work. I am 100% sure that my progress can be a looooot faster if only I could eliminate these “evil things” from my diet. I always say: “This is my last pack of chips. Since monday, I am not eating ANY.” But I always do. And working out every day won’t fix it, I will not gain, but I will not lose weight either. That is really bad, cause that way I will never meet my goal :D The worst thing is that I do it even though I know it is NOT GOOD.

    *sigh*

Last think I wanna say to end this long rant :D is that NO SUGAR CHALLENGE really works for me. I was doing this for 2 weeks and I really saw and felt the difference. I wanna do another no sugar challenge, but I wanna keep it as a habit, not just for 1 week. I plan to do NO SUGAR from monday to saturday and allow myself some sweet treat on sundays. That way I will still have something sweet to look forward to, but not eating sugar every day. I don’t sugar my tea or anything, I don’t even have sugar at home, but candy, chocolates, cakes – they haunt me a lot! :D and people bring these things to work! That shoud be forbidden! :D Do you think that is a good idea, to have this “no sugar” addition to my diet?

And also – Zuzi, you look absolutely gorgeous and I have no idea how could someone tell you that :D Maybe that person forgot their glasses that day (I wear glasses and without them things seem to be bigger, cause they are blurred, haha). You rock :) Thanks for sharing and motivating us every day :)

  • Samantha R

This video came as a shock.  I can’t even tell you’ve put on weight and even if you have put on a little bit so what; you look fantastic and you’ll soon lose it again if you want to/need to.  I’m struggling with understanding the cheek of messaging you to tell you such things when you do what you do, look the way you do and are such a lovely person.  We are not robots, we all deal with things in different ways and we all slip up every now and again.  The main thing is to not get stuck in the rut, accept that perhaps the food could be better/smaller portions, not beat ourselves up and move on and move forward.  For instance, I’ve noticed that if I’m feeling a little run down, poorly etc., I seem to use this as an excuse to eat stuff I never usually would.  I’ve had the mother of all colds this week and halfway though one of my kids (substantially sized) cookies it dawned on me that this is probs not the best route to go down;)!  Now if I can just cut down on my nut and seed consumption…….  Take care Zuzana, hope you feel less stressed now you’ve got moved.  Sx

  • Samantha R

Feeling your pain Chris – I love my nuts and seeds and find them difficult to pass up as I see them as my substitute for refined sugars and other processed rubbish so I’ve sort of convinced myself its ok.  I’m going to have a go at restricting them this week I think. Sx

  • http://twitter.com/GoustiFruit GoustiFruit

I also seemed to have noticed you gained a little weight lately (I think it started around the time Freddy went to Canada) but I didn’t want to comment because I understand that *even you* need to have your times of rest, I understand that it must be extremely hard for you to post those daily videos, workouts, advices and always be perfect on screen: everyone needs to have some periods of relaxation, a few weeks here and there where you don’t have to push yourself all the way, all the time.
I’d say that I’m almost happy to see that even you can have those small times of “regression”, it makes you more human, more reachable… I don’t know how to express this… let’s say I find it easier to get advice from and to work out with someone who I know has the same problems as everyone else.
I’ve been following your workouts for about 6-7 months and as hard as they can be, I’m always willing to give them a try. But the diet challenges… this is something that is way beyond my possibilities, I have really bad eating habits, I’m addicted to all kinds of sweets, so I’m certainly not the one that will criticize someone for having a few moments of let go.

  • ♥ Verena ♥

Nice to hear this words from you, Zuzana :)  Currently my diet is very bad. we’re all the day in our new house and my eating habits are very one-sided…. now I have a shoulder injury and can make no sport…
but our redecorations will be ending in 3 weeks, so I have the time to prepare healthy food :)
Have a nice time in LA

  • http://ladneslowa.wordpress.com/ Dorota T.

ZUZANA! I love this! You’re perfect because you have the same problems like normal daily human. i have no more words in my dict which can tell what i would like to tell. Zuzana, just -WOW. I love You, guys!!

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Aleksandra-Bilcane/100001343398864 Aleksandra Bilcane

Hey @captainrachel:disqus !! The same here. I have so much difficulties with dieting but I have to say that when I don’t have any bad stuff at home like cookies, sweets etc. I don’t eat them because I literally don’t have them. I tend to eat something healthier instead (I have always a lot of carrots in the fridge and apples lying around).
My weight is the same but I have to admit that I have gained some muscles, so it’s probably not that bad.
I wish you a lot of strength to try to cut down your portions – try to use smaller dishes (that’s what helps me sometimes) and no seconds (try to taste out and enjoy food when you eat it). Easy to say but not as easy to do :)

     Hi there,

First of all we all know that you are not perfect, but still we want to believe that…like your flaws are even perfect to us…ok, maybe not perfect but cute for sure..
Now, about eating, I have problem when I am traveling, especially during the summer, when I work in a hotel or camp for few months, and I don’t have my own kitchen, and I have only 3 meals per day…an as I am working whole day (from 9 am till 11 pm), when I do have this 3 hotel meals, I just stuff myself….and that is not all, hotel food sometimes can be soooo delicious ( read greasy and unhealthy)…
The other problem is when I work in camps (which is much, much better that to be in a hotel the whole day)…but the bad thing is that you don’t have typical kitchen like in a hotel where you can choose your food, but we get what we get, and it is either that or nothing…
So every year after a season I have one month of detoxification..

So, if this can make you feel better..I also gain 2 kilos lately whit my traveling, and eating in hotels..
But, now I will be home for 2-3 weeks and they will come off.

    Thanks for being so human!!!!

    kisses to you all

  • Sabrina

Honestly I think she looks like she has gained some weight as well. The other day when she was working out her mucsles wernt as defined as much as they normally are. I am not jealous of her or wanting to make her feel badly, infact I didnt think much of it cause we all have weight fluctuations. I really dont believe others pointed this out because they wanted to make her feel bad or cause they are jealous. People here are used to making observations and saying what they think. Its no big deal she gained a bit of weight!!! Looks like she went from about 1% body fat to about 2%.

I think its more stressful when your infront of a camera having everyone look at you and critic you everyday. You become obsessed with image and how you look but its not necessarily a bad thing. when your image is your career its just as normal to be obsessed with it as a pilot is about his/her flying abilities.
    Peace.
    Sabs.

  • Sabrina

my comments dont seem to be working

  • http://ladneslowa.wordpress.com/ Dorota T.

And I must also say that I’m deeply affected with this, Zuz. I have last time similar problem that I eat too much or too less. I had a anorexia nervosa, I had a bulimia and ortorexia and it is SO HARD to live totaly NORMAL now. It’s always something which make me feel like some time ago when I was ill. but anyway, in normal life averybody have a time in life when just can’t keep diet. We are not ROBOTS or MACHINE. JUST human and this is beautiful.

  • Anonymous

    Hi Nina,

I also live alone, and like you I don’t have any junk food around my house, and even sodas,I drink only water and tea,and one cup of coffee in the morning..but I am living on my own for 5 years, and when I first started it was much harder not to buy some chips or something like that..it takes time to get use to that, and also to cook small portions, just for one…for me that was big problem ( I used to live with my parents and brother, and from cooking for 4 I went to cooking for me)…and I have to learn how to cook healthy…
My bigest problem was pasta…I used to eat it every day..and now..I just don’t buy it,because if I have it I would eat it…
But you know what…as you said it we are people,we are not perfect, but if you are aware of your “problem” you are half way to a solution…and you know that, don’t you…

    kisses
p.s. I just realized how much I have been missing you all!!!!!

    Hey Zuzi&Freddy,
I haven’t really noticed that you have gained some weight or anything because I guess I don’t really pay so much attention to your waist. I am more concerned with the proper form of an exercise LOL
You are my inspiration and I am glad that you can say that even you are struggling with diet because my main problem is the diet. I just have the habit of eating and I know I shouldn’t and I know how I should eat but it’s really difficult to hold on to the rules – I always slip though.
Since I started bodyrocking (22nd January 2011) I haven’t lost any weight but i have gained some muscles which I think makes the situation less bad. I am trying to make some little changes in my diet, so that I’m more likely to stick to them.
Really looking forward to hearing more on this subject :)

Uhh Wow!  Zuzana, I am sorry that people feel it is their right to share their opinions on your body in this way. It is very positive that you are sharing your struggles with stress and food, etc, I commend you for that. It is nice to know that we really are all the same in some ways.
On the other hand, you look incredible, always have and I have no doubt, you always will. I love your arms, in this video they look absolutely incredible and strong (as does the rest of your body)!  And please don’t feel that you ever have to explain yourself. All people go through phases, even elite body builders and physique competitors have off seasons and allow themselves to relax.
    Keep up the great work!!

  • Samanthina

The people  telling you that you look more fat are not right.Zuzana, you are not fat,you look more muscular than before and this is awesome.I hope that i will look like you and gain some muscles after years by following this great workouts and diet challenges.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100001544872752 Anna Carolina F

    Hey Zuzanka!
I thought your muscles grew in the last 2 mounth because of your HIT+ Capoeira lessons!?( I said you look more buff in one of my older comments) And it seemed to me that you are stronger than ever as you can see on your new highscores!

Your topic could be the answer of your issues. I suggest that your stresslevel could rose up a little bit to high of the hard training in the last weeks. Training causes a physical stress on your body. In a moderate pase it´s a healthy way of musclestimulus. You´re just in an advanced fitnesslevel and it´s really hard to make “huge” progress on bodyphysic now. Also you´re a doing a high variety of movements in your workouts, your body accoustomed on this proviciency level. (What about a short time of rest?)

Think of you hormonal balance in your age- there can be changes, too. Perhaps we don´t have to look so much on our eating habits!?

It´s the changes that our body does naturally on it´s path of life and our habits that goes along with it.

    LOve, Carol

  • Svenja R.

zuzana you’re gorgeous as always. i don’t want to lie and tell u that i didn’t notice any body changes on you but i wouldn’t say that you “gained weight” cause that would imply that you doesn’t look as gorgeous as before.. but you do.
and as far as I’m concerned i like your muscular body how it was a few weeks ago and i like the “softer” version of it now ;)

i also struggle with eating too much. the bad thing is that i eat too much of the junk :D and then i feel like i have to put my bodyrocker-status down :( but now that i know you also struggle with your diet there is a goal for me to “struggle better” if that makes sense… you know.. rather eating too much fruit and nuts than eating too much chocolate and lasagne :)

  • Vala

    SO.
    Let’s put my thoughts together.
Actually I wondered a few weeks ago, if you gained weight, BUT I didn’t think about it as “did she gain fat?” – I wondered “Is she trying to put on more muscle and if yes, how the hell is she doing it – is she simply eating more?” – Since I always think I need heavier weights to gain (and I need to gain, but I don’t know if Bodyrock will do this for me? I’m bodyrocking a year now and got really lean and defined, but I feel I weigh too little). Anyways. So I do see the weight change, but GIRL, you are so damn cut still! No cellulite, still a 4-pack, lots of muscle everywhere. And this gave me a really good feeling, because:

I realized that having more weight can look really awesome.

You have to understand that I struggle often with my body image and I feel fat fast. Seeing you, being strong and lean, but not skinny or at such a low body fat that I can count your veins encourages me to gain some weight as well. It makes me happy, that “my fitness trainer” is not one of these almost sport-anorexic looking women. I mean, is that healthy? Is it beautiful? Is it strong and womanly?
Plus maybe you’ve been more on the skinny side before – so now you shouldn’t feel fat.

I also wondered, if your body maybe needs the fat (of the cashews). I’m lately experimenting with a diet higher in fat and I feel good on it. I didn’t gain weight, but I feel more satieted and stable. I noticed that you skip egg yolks and things like that. Maybe your body needs more of this macronutrient and less fruit or whatever. Fat calms down stress, too ;)

Lastly – thank you for being so honest and such a beautiful person inside out, sharing your workouts and your thoughts. You changed my life completely and it is still transforming.

  • Vala

I thought about this a little bit more.
Isn’t this weird, that in our society somebody like Zuzana, looking so sporty, strong, defined and womanly, is considered fat by some or asked if she is pregnant? I hope they just saw the difference to last year and do not think this for real.
I feel that women like Geri Halliwell in her Raining man Video and other celebrities are too skinny – even if they have muscles – they look sport-anorexic.
So maybe this is not only about “stress makes me fat and fitness trainers aren’t perfect, too” – but about the body image of women. You are a great role model and you inspire me a lot. I really wish you’d feel comfortable at your weight, because you look awesome. Maybe you should ask yourself, if you feel you need to lose for real or only because you got some comments of a sick society.

  • IrenaCZ

WHO TOLD YOU THAT??? I wish I looked as great as you do on MY FAT DAY!!!

  • IrenaCZ

WHO TOLD YOU THAT??? I wish I looked as great as you do on MY FAT DAY!!!

  • Rashelle

     Zuzana,
First of all you look absolutely amazing and I think a lot of the “extra weight” some people may be seeing is lighting. It looks like you’re filming in softer lighting for the past few workouts which obviously will show less definition. I look HOT in my bathroom mirror, but in my bedroom I don’t see the same muscles. So.. that’s my thought. Also, I am a Registered Dietitian/Licensed Nutritionist and let me tell you.. I don’t follow  my own diet advice all of the time either!! I also will overeat if I am lonely/bored or if I am out celebrating! (to opposite things). I’m fine sticking to my healthy eating as long as it’s routine, but if emotions or life throws me a surprise.. it can be tough. About those Cashews.. I was eating handfuls of them just yesterday! I bought a bag like last week and they are FINISHED. I decided I can no longer have them in the house.. at least not for a while. It’s that “healthy food” trap. You know they are healthy (in moderation) so then since they taste so delicious it’s harder to quit because you know it’s not a “bad” food. Damn those cashews and their buttery taste. No one can be perfect, not even us health professionals. But, I’m with you.. cutting my portions this week and paying a little extra attention to what I’m putting in my mouth. Thanks again for everything you do!! You are beautiful inside and out : )

  • Ese Buci

I I second that comment. You are an inspiration to me an I owe you a big thank you for giving inspiring me to get my body back after my daughter. The beauty about working out and eating clean I it is life long!!!
None of us would be sane if we ate clean 24/7 or if we didn’t admit to struggling every so often. In addition as women we tend to carry more water depending on the time of the month it is and our hormones have a lot to do with how we look and feel.

People that make comments like that lack a complete comprehention of how the body works. Thank you Z and Freddy for all that you’ve done and showing us you’re just like us as it relates to dieting and working out. For someone who has never competed you look amazing and continue to inspire may around the world.

You’ve got a fan for life!!!
    Bodyrocker Ese

  • rashelle

p.s. can anyone tell me how to get my photo up on my comments? I’d appreciate it!

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1403719105 Evan Brooks

I’m glad you are getting settled in at LA!  Zuzana, I totally hear you on the cashews; I can eat them by the pound :)  (On the other hand, I am trying to bulk up, so I guess it works in my favor to some extent ;) ).  I’m moving my family next week as well, and I am sure you can appreciate the challenges of sticking to a diet or working out regularly while planning and executing a move!  We’re not traveling lightly like you all; we are bringing everything, so for me my workouts the last week or so have taken the form of hauling furniture, packing/unpacking trucks, building fences and stairs, etc.  Once we’ve settled in (hopefully soon!) I’ll be back into the official bodyrock workouts! :)

For me, the biggest challenge regarding the diet is eating smaller portions more frequently.  I try to eat a couple handfuls’ worth of food every hour or hour and a half (if that seems like a lot, consider that I’m vegan /high raw food and bulking up), but when one spends hours at a time on the road or moving stuff, it’s easy to let that slide and then eat several pounds’ worth of food when one gets the chance!  Not exactly efficient eating….For what it’s worth, I can see that you’ve gained a little weight over the last few weeks, but you still look great!  I wish you luck sticking to your diet challenges a little better and I’ll see you on the other side!

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1403719105 Evan Brooks

I totally agree, Vala!  That little bit of weight looks to be the right sort, and she looks very healthy!  Fit is beautiful.

  • Lydia

I think it’s so much easier to give advice rather than follow it…at some point we all ‘fall off’ our path whatever it may be- but life is not always easy- no excuse, but we are human…

I think we need to be more forgiving of ourselves when we take the time to ‘enjoy’ food and not judge so hard what we put in our mouths. Speaking to those of us who are healthy, fit, and know what it takes to live the life style…

as fitness professionals or health nuts! I think there is always going to be some struggle with ‘moderation’ and ‘restriction’ even though our choices are so much healthier than the average person…

i heard a celebrity say once in an interview when asked how she kept herself in such great shape- she replied “oh I’d rather eat spinach than a piece of chocolate” REALLY?  it all comes back to ‘judging’ what we put in our mouths…

i don’t believe either extreme is healthy, and as for me- I am still on this journey just trying to find a happy place between ‘moderation’ and ‘restriction’ and like my 3 year old tells me “sometimes I’m good, sometimes I’m bad, but mostly I am good” and that’s GOOD for ME.

while I was watching her I was thinking the same thing! How can anyone tell you that you look heavy? it is rediculous, I think you look fabulous, the only thing I have noticed are your muscles, and if you are any heavier, it is probably all muscle gain!! Keep up your fabulous work and don’t worry about your body because you are the ideal for all of us bodyrockers! We love you both :D and all that you do for us!

by the way I had to stop eating cashews cause I gained weight from eating way too many at once, but they are so good it is hard for me to stop when i know I should lol… And in CA there are so many things you can do, it just depends what you are in the mood to do. I love going down to the beach and riding my bike, which you can go down to the beach and they have rentals available. If you want to hike there are lots of places to do that as well. But really anything you have in mind you can usually find it in L.A. or near by. I would suggest looking up things to do here on the web to find something specific and then find the places you can do it :D!

  • http://www.facebook.com/lillypipin Jezawix Wix

I’m with you :( I have been going through the same thing for years and years… and it is like a total snowball effect… :( I hate it… and cheese is my thing.. dairy.. im intolerant and allergic.. but I still sometimes give in and just spend days eating copious amounts of dairy in whatever form it comes in…. cheesecake.. pizza… omg.. just unreal amounts of it.. like I get into the head space.. f*$@ it.. I have eaten it now… may as well eat everything else in this category now seeing as it’s in my system… and then after a few days, sometimes weeks.. I come out the other side.. thinking.. omg.. what have I done.. I put all the weight back on that I worked so hard to lose.. and I feel bad :( but as I progress through this journey I am definitely gettin better and reducing the amount of time that I snow ball and definitely learning to resist it… I’m getting better at it which gives me hope that one day I will hopefully not eat it at all anymore… but I don’t think i’ll ever fully kick it :D

  • http://delightfultastebuds.wordpress.com Jos

It’s true that stress affects our eating habits (whether binge eating or not eating). Either way both would sabotage our fitness goal. I’ll be honest Zuzana, it is true that you do look like you gain more curve lately. Your arms are the most noticeable BUT, you are STILL GORGEOUS! :) I on the other hand is working so hard to gain lean muscle mass so I won’t look like fragile skinny, like how people always telling me. Seriously after a while, it gets annoying and wonder if it’s actually a complement or it’s actually they try to tell me something else.

Anyway, ever since I switched to Paleo, my hunger and cravings are much better controlled. Paleo is pretty much our ancestor’s diet/lifestyle – eat fresh veggies, meat, fruits and no processed stuff like gluten (anything made from whole grain), grains (rice, quinoa, corn etc), legumes (peanuts, all kinds of beans) and sugar.

     Hello everyone,

I could understand that after achieving the best shape of your life you can feel like “you are eating a tiny little bit too much” for me and the rest you will always look beautiful and perfect, I am not only referring to your figure, you both are so nice and polite and warmth :) My point is maybe for me you look good, but maybe for yourself you think you need to cut your portions, the result is what will make you feel happy and good about yourself. But please always stay healthy.

I know there are so different opinions, mine is If I were you I would keep on eating too much fruit but cut a  bit in the cashews.

I was way better last year, this year has not been smiling me too much, my boyfriend and I are facing lots of bureaucratic issues it has been hard to stick with my diet, there has been tears, there has been frustration and like Zuz mention in the video, food is there, and then after the food the tears come back because I am losing my figure, and so on. I am trying to take it easy, to stay strong.

One step at a time bodyrockers, let’s stay healthy, let’s push in our workouts, and try not to feel guilty for one saturday night at the movies with some popcorn….BUT….let’s try not to forget our fitness goals, that at the end that will give us more satisfactions than the chips itself :)

Hi  @acac61484a6bf6e78111405b93dd6af6:disqus or anyone please tell me.

What is the “right size” for nuts? I eat every 3 days maybe 6 or 7 walnuts with my oatmeal.
I think I can eat a bit more but I don’t exactly know how much more.

What about raisins? Can I eat more of those?

    Thanks in advance.

OMG  I’m astounded that people would make such comments – even if they are just observations.  Zuzanna looks amazing regardless of her body composition (much better than I will ever look so I definitely cannot cast stones) and to point it out to her is kind of rude.  She could still whup most of our butts on the exercise mat and she’s creating all these workouts for free for us and to help us better ourselves.

Like others, I’m glad that we can all talk about our dieting issues rather than keeping them under the rug.  I appreciate Zuz’s honesty about her problems as well since it places her in a position of being our equal rather than being this unattainable fitness god.  lol.  I’ve had dieting and fitness troubles for a couple of years now.  It never became an eating disorder or anything but I gained a bunch of weight in my last year of undergrad, writing a thesis. Stress+no sleep+mars bars+no gym time = muchos weight.  lol  After I graduated, I became so obssessed with returning to the way I used to look that I pushed myself too hard too quickly and pushed myself right into female athlete’s triad.  Now I have Dr.s telling me I can’t do as much exercise as I want to do and have to make sure that I’m eating the right proportions of food.  This is why I love BodyRock.  I can get the intensity that I crave but in much shorter periods of time which keeps my Dr.s off my back about exercising too much.  It also keeps my appetite under control so that I don’t overeat or binge because I’m expending about the same amount of energy everyday rather than having 3 or 4 days a week where I expend much more energy at the gym than other days of the week.  My current problem is balancing having to eat the right types of foods
according to my nutritionist and still trying to attain the body
composition that I want.  For example, my nutritionist is actually telling me to eat some simple sugars every day.  But I hate the idea of eating junk food with chemicals and preservatives.  So what I do is I bake my own cookies, gelato or whatever.  That way I know what’s in my ‘junk’ food and I can make adjustments as I like.  I don’t want to lose weight.  I don’t care
about that.  But I want to feel comfortable in my own body again and it’s
really hard to get to that point (as Zuz said) especially when you add
the trials of life into the mix.

Another thing that I love about BodyRock is that there is an amazing community here that I never felt at the gym – despite being surrounded by other people.  We all support each other and the person leading us always has a smile on her face and an amazing imagination for fun, challenging and rather unique workouts.   We should all keep it up.  Together, I think we make a great team!

     Hi Flavia,

I hope you don’t mind me saying but I have read your reps in the past and Oh my…. you are a total killer, and the amazing thing is that after workouts you keep on doing something else. I kept on telling myself “Where on earth does she get that much energie?” I believe you look pretty good, honestly, even If I dont know you, but I understand each of us differ from what is the “the best shape for us”

And Yes, keep the faith, you will be back on track soon, we all have emotions, we are not robots.

I just cannot picture myself how hard it is for Zuzana to have that tremendous body, the diet she has I mean…. so much discipline…

    I hope it helps.

Zuzana, my dear you are gorgeous inside and out whether your ripped or have a softer look. You shouldn’t have to explain yourself to anyone. Although your much more in the limelight now and critics are everywhere, you have to know that it’s ok to give diet a break. You just traveled across the globe and don’t have your own kitchen. It’s difficult to maintain a perfect diet when your meals aren’t prepared by you. I love the way you look. I struggle with this too, as a matter of fact we all do and it’s what makes us human. Those people making those comments should really keep it to themselves. Stress affects us all and it’s apart of life and it’s how we deal with it is what makes our bodies respond the way they do. Heck, I would love to have your body the way it looks now. Although I’m starting to appreciate the body I have it’s a lot of work to maintain and tweak diet to look good ain’t it?

  • Lila ♥

Hey Zuzanita! Honestly I did not even notice you have gained weight, I really don’t see it. You still look amazing. I agree with many bodyrockers here “let’s not stress to much about diet  and live a little”. Treating oneself once in a while is not that bad…I think if we are working out so much and so hard we deserve some treats :) The golden rule: just have the word moderation in mind most of the time and I think we will be ok! Our goal is to be strong, fit and healthy and I think we are there, not just being skinny! Thanks for sharing your struggles and letting us see you are not as perfect as mabye we thought you were. We can all relate to the struggles and some bad habits, we are humans! We still love you  Zuzanita, and keep it up!

thank you for sharing parts of your life that usually is hidden. I am a trainer myself and i appreciate that you have the courage to support the others. love you for that. you are an inspiration.

  • Birigik

You DO NOT look like you’ve been eating too much. anybody saying that is sick or anorexic. You look better than before (in some older videos) where you look unnaturally thin (like somebody who lives on less that 50g of carbs a day). You can’t maintain that without destroying your metabolism.
I hope you will continue to provide a healthy image on this site and not cave in to those who think that you have to be unnatural and on the verge of starvation to look good. You are in your 20′s now. If you give in to that pressure you’ll be a mess by the time you’re 39.

  • Anonymous

Zuzana, I think you look amazing now. And have looked amazing in all of your workouts. You may look a little different now than a several months ago, not that I really took note of this, and also different a few months ago to a couple of years ago. But that’s normal because you have changed your workouts and your eating habits and so your body will change. More or less muscle bulk, more or less lean etc. And I personally wonder at people who think it’s ok to tell you they think you’ve gained a little weight or are eating too much. Would these same people come up to you and tell you the same thing in person? I doubt it. Also, few would have the courage and self confidence to have a camera on them during all of their workouts and publish it. I definitely wouldn’t. I appreciate that we have the opportunity to post our thoughts on this site but people do have to remember that anonymity doesn’t mean you should say anything and everything that crosses your mind. You only encourage us and are supportive of our goals and progress however fit or unfit we are and we should also be doing the same. This shouldn’t be a space for disparaging comments or negativity.

In terms of diet, I definitely take detours from my “ideal” diet. I do my best by buying whole grains, and keeping a lot of fresh fruit and veggies around and like to cook, so balanced meals whenever possible. But when I go out to eat, I do let myself have that burger and fries every once in a while and I think that’s ok. I will let myself have a decadent dessert every once in a while too. I just feel that those little indulgences or pleasures are part of an enjoyable life. I LOVE FOOD. Over the past few years with the help and motivation from this site, I have changed my eating habits for the better and have seen positive changes in my body and my strength and it’s empowering. I am better at portion control; a few years ago I ate almost the same things that my boyfriend at the time did and fell into his (non) workout schedule and let’s just say that was not a good thing. Now I am in a different and better relationship and we share a common love of fitness but our eating habits are still way different. But I cook for us and we eat well when we can and I have learned how to avoid matching my bf in # pizza slices or # beers. If he has 3 or 4 slices, I may have one and some salad. And I allow myself one drink a day, but of course there are the exceptions too :) I guess my point is that and ideal diet is just that, an ideal. Sometimes life doesn’t allow for the ideal and sometimes it does. As long as we are centered and know that we can and how to move back toward that ideal, then that’s healthy. Detours aren’t the end of the world.

I myself will be moving soon. I will be graduating from medical school in 3 weeks and moving across the country to start my pediatric residency. I am nervous about being able to maintain my work-out schedule because I will be very busy. But I’m trying to set myself up for success. I am renting in a community that has a small gym, pool and other outdoor courts and such just 2 mins from my apt and have planned to make my own small fitness studio in my apartment with good rubber flooring and mirrors and barre etc to do your workouts. I love that they are so short. Even if I have to be at the hospital at 6 or 7am I am going to try and wake up 20 min early and get a work-out in.

Thank you Zuzana and Freddy for giving us these workouts and for free!!!! The constant variety and intensity of these short workouts give us little excuse to be lazy. And seeing you in all your fit and strong splendor is great motivation!! Your site has inspired positive changes in my life and so many others made obvious by the comments, and you should both be very proud.

    Much love

It’s a sign of major insecurity to comment untactfully on someone else’s body. Minor criticism can provoke constructive discussions (as in this case) but really, I wonder what this people look like or what hobbies they have if the only thing they can think of is posting rude comments. We are NOT a community of ego driven people, we care about ourselves as one unit – body, mind and soul. If you’re not happy, go compare bodybuilders’ physiques, that’s what they do for a living.

I don’t bother reading websites where ‘gurus’ show how perfect their diet is as it’s clearly full of sh*t. I mean, I do understand there are some super diet obsessed (I’m not talking about disordered!) people but most of us eat pretty much the same – sometimes we overindulge, sometimes we forget to eat on time, etc. It’s about how you eat MOST of the time and how you FEEL most of the time. It’s about what you do on any level to make you look and feel better.

P.S. Weight is NOT a constant value, it’s changeable and small variations are absolutely fine!

P.P.S. I’m having issues with Disqus, is it me or does it keep crashing with you, guys?

    Bodyrocking all the way!!

Well, I must say I have been utterly blind to the massive spare tire that some people/individual thinks hangs over your workout pants and I still can’t see it. To me you look healthy, happy, energetic, beautiful, and fit. If you go for bone thin you may have to make choices as to what your priorities are. you appear to be at a weight you can maintain indefinitely right now. There have been times when you appeared thinner, such as when you did the vegetarian diet (although there certainly could have been countless other factors involved at that time, so I mean that more as a way of identifying a time period rather than saying all vegetarians will be bony). Maintaining a body fat level below 15% is going to be a roller coaster for a woman and to maintain it over long periods of time will lead to possible binge eating, frustration, hormonal issues, and a host of other undesireable issues.

    Hi Zuz and Freddie,
Thank you for sharing your comments about diet. I am 53 years old and have been personal training and teaching aerobics for 20 years. Sometimes over the years it has been frustrating when I see people from the gym at a restaurant or in the grocery store and they always have a comment about what I am eating For example “You eat that?” etc. even though from age 35 to 48 or so I was pretty lean. As I got older I put on a few lbs and was not happy with my body. I am supposed to be the “expert”!!
After years of guilt over it I have adopted the 90% rule. I still allow myself the things I love that don’t exactly fit into a “perfect” diet about 10% of the time. I also encourage the people I work with to focus on health rather than beat themselves up over 2 or 3 lbs on the scale.  One thing that helped me a lot from your site was the green smoothie. That’s the first thing I put in my mouth each day. Doing so helps me feel like I want to keep putting healthy things in my body.

Also, I started doing your workouts in January with two other girls from the gym (they are about half my age) Before that I was doing a regular weight machine gym workout and was steadily gaining weight.
I now do your workouts and run and teach my aerobic classes. Finally I am starting to see the definition that I saw when I was younger. I am also much stronger. I just did the Warrior Dash with my 26 year old son and felt very good about my time (thanks to you Zuzana and your amazing workouts!!

One last thing… now that I am starting to like my body more I am very unhappy with  my aging face. In fact I just deactivated my facebook account because someone posted a close up picture of me and I couldn’t believe the wrinkles around my eyes. I am sure people are going to make comments so I just removed it. I have some friends that are very critical of me. Anyway, I am going to keep having fun with the workouts here and enjoy food that is good for me.

  • Jillian

I am the worst kind of emotional eater…I have to get up from the table IMMEDIATELY following a meal or snack because if I don’t, I will continue to eat until there is literally NOTHING left.  I, too, know what the “right” portion size is and what amount of healthy food I need to take in to support my body, but it is really hard to think about that all of the time (especially growing up in an Italian family, like I did!) I always joke around with my family, boyfriend, and friends that ”I eat my feelings” but it can be so true at times.  I eat when I’m happy; when I am sad; when I am stressed; and when I am angry.  I have found the most difficult obstacle to overcome is this:  people who think I am “too skinny” or think I should eat five helpings instead of one will push food on me.  Again, this doesn’t necessarily have to be “junk” food, but the fact that eating more than a portion size DOES affect my body physically.  The result?  I feel pressured to eat, I eat, I feel guilty, so I want to eat, I eat, then I feel guilty, etc….Luckily, my weight never really fluctuates more than a few pounds or so; I usually nip my emotional eating in the butt before it can get REALLY out of hand.  It would just be great to have a little more control more frequently!

Freddy and Zuzana, again, THANK YOU BOTH for everything you do.  Keep up the good work, and have a great time in L.A.!!!

Zuzana! I cannot believe that some people would tell you that you are eating too much… I understand that you are in the public eye and will get criticized but the reality of it all is that you, like all of us, are human. Hence, you will struggle with the same issues that we do… Thank you so much for posting this because it allows for us all to see that it is normal to struggle with what we put in our mouths. This video makes me admire you even more! I have so much love and respect for you!

When it comes to eating, I have been really good since following the Bodyrock community. Every time I am about to put something in my body that is not good for it, I wonder ‘What will Zuzana tell me?’ and it works about 99% of the time. Those times that it does not work is when I am eating emotionally or it is that time of the month (for women) and all I crave is chocolate anything.

Another thing that has worked for me when I am craving something is to allow myself to eat it and not feel guilty about it. If we reward ourselves for working out on a consistent basis, then the guilt will disappear. I choose Sunday as the day where I can eat something that I crave. And waiting till that day while working out for it makes it so much better…

I can’t remember how long ago or who said it, but this has stuck in my head since I read it. It was something about your body being a temple that you care for. Everything you put in it will affect it either negatively or positively… I make most of my choices on this… But I do think that it is okay to treat yourself once in a while without any guilt…

=0) It is because of you, Z &F, that I have changed my eating habits! So thank you!

  • Anonymous

     Hi,
I don’t think that this video is an expression of “guilt” – I think it’s a comment on how difficult it can be at times to walk the walk not just talk the talk. Judging from the comments, I would say a lot of people struggle with similar feelings, and to dismiss this as nonsense seems a bit glib.

  • http://peskyrunner.blogspot.com Eimear Rose Henry

Hi Milly, I weigh out some nuts and put them in a little box in my purse most days, about 25-30g. That’s enough to give me plenty of Vitamin E, healthy fats, but without too much gain. When I feel a little bit flabbier than normal, I cut out the nuts and seeds completely for a fortnight or so and that helps although I think good fats like nuts aren’t the worst food crime

  • http://twitter.com/cschuurr Chelsea Schuur

You’re only human as we all are. I think that’s makes me have so much more respect for you knowing you are JUST like us. You go through everything that we go through and the struggles we do as well. I love how you’re capable of talking about all of this and maintaining such a positive attitude.

  • http://peskyrunner.blogspot.com Eimear Rose

I got really good with my diet at the beginning of the year but have been a bit slack lately. Work has been really busy so I was ‘rewarding’ myself a lot after a hard day. I haven’t gained much weight because after a big treat I do not very ideal things like skip a meal or go for a long run to ‘undo’ last night’s ice-cream. Obviously the ideal thing would be to just eat well balanced meals. Like Zuzana, I know what a good diet is (I try to eat paleo- meat, seafood, lots of veggies, some fruit and nut but I eat a bit of dairy too) but we all make mistakes- I think sugar is disgusting but find it hard to stay away from ice-cream or chocolate for very long! Thanks so much for being so open and honest Zuzana, but it makes me sad that your well deserved popularity has left you open to other people scrutinising you, I’d never presume it to be my business to comment on your figure, especially as you know so much about diet, health, fitness etc, but your honesty is so rare and so welcomed here.

  • Carolrose_m

Zuzana! You look amazing!!  Emotional eating is something everyone struggle with as you said. But it’s just a weird battle me have with our munds which i thinks just makes it worse for us. Life is short and to eat good and take care of our bodies the best we can is all we can do. But i think it is good to indulge in some of the amazng things food wise the world has to offer, not often but every once in a while. But health over eveything is the most impor! BALANCE is key!!
Lots of love to you! I’m excited your in the same time zone as me now!! :) Looking forward tomonday and the new workout! I’m getting married in august so this is amazing that i have found you, i’m gonna look smokin in my dress!!! :)

    Hi Parrot,

I grew up eating Guyanese food too. I don’t know exactly what your mom cooks, but there are a TON of dishes with really excellent nutritional balance and large portions of veggies and lean protein. Honestly, I didn’t really start gaining weight until I moved out and stopped eating my mom’s cooking. :)

Is there any way you can ask your mom to be included in the shopping and meal planning? It might be fun bonding time for the two of you, plus she’ll see that you’re really serious about your diet and health (as opposed to just dismissing it as some kind of phase). In addition, it would give you the chance to pick up healthy things to take to school for lunch.

Good luck! I wish I’d been as committed to good health at age 15 as you are. :)

I totally agree that it is hard to keep yourself on track completely with sticking to ‘The Perfect’ diet. For me if I am tired, if I haven’t slept enough the night before, I eat more the next day and tend to go for the bad carbs, which means I need to work out harder that day, it is just a vicious circle.   Lately I have been really stressed at work and been working late, which means that I have been eating wrong and haven’t had time to train. I have also had knee surgery on both knees in one day so I am immobile at the moment, so now I have to work even harder on my diet. I have to really be strict on myself with my diet because I can’t work out until I have healed and I don’t want to pick up too much weight. The diet will also help give my body what it needs to heal, that is also another reason why I need to focus on my diet. I really can’t wait to get back into a bit of exercise, it is going to be a slow start but I will build up strength soon.
Thanks Zuzana and Freddy for your motivation and honest words.  It helps keep me keep motivated and I hope we help you to keep motivated.

  • Sandra

    Hi Zuzana,

I usually dont comment on stuff here but i keep following what’s going on for the last one year i’d say… i always admire you and i think you’re an amazing example of how to keep fit by exercising at home… i never tried doing your workouts because i am terribly unfit – i work in the office and my daily routine is mainly – job and home ( home time is mainly spent sitting on the couch with my laptop).

anyways, i really liked your post about struggling with a diet, because that’s what i experience all the time. I know what to eat and how much i should be eating, i probably know how many calories are in each food, which when you think – should stop me from eating muffins lets say …but sometimes  i just eat anything whats there… sometimes i am very good and eat really healthy foods, but somedays i am terrible. especially when it’s a week before my periods… i think everygirl experiences the same thing but i just cant stop this and i wonder to myself – how celebrities do that..because i just need chocolate during those days :)

i do love food and i like to enjoy it. i know my limit though. limit to eat healthy and limit to enjoy delicious foods because once you pass it – it’s no more fun!

    enjoy ur stay in la!

After watching the whole video, I felt so much for you!  I have been struggling all winter, doing your workouts and dealing with  ups and downs!  I keep coming back knowing that I am doing something correctly!  it is tough to be a muscular gal who gains a bit of weight….end up looking like a powerlifter!  When I really want to be thin and toned, but you do keep me motivated, thank you!

  • ZoeRocker

I have the same addiction to cashews that you have!!!! I can’t stop eating them! Also peanut butter is a big problem for me. I was going to send in my before/after pics this weekend but I gained too much fat in the last two weeks and I look almost the same as when I started bodyrocking 6 months ago. I feel like crap about it. I am vegan, and sometimes it is very difficult to feel satisfied after eating the portions that are supposed to be enough food. I find myself hungry a lot. I sometimes don’t have time to eat 5 times a day so I will go several hours without food and then I get home from work and scarf down whatever is right there because I am starving. I am the same as you Zuzana, when i am overstressed, I cannot eat and when I am stressed out a little, I eat a lot. Fat likes to cling to my body for some reason, especially around my middle. It is very hard for me to get rid of it. I have to work incredibly hard to burn fat off. I work at a pub, and the only “vegan” things to eat there are yam fries and french fries. So when they have extra they put it out for the staff, and when I am hungry, I can’t resist eating them. I have to learn better how to resist my cravings. I think the worst is alcohol. I can drink a lot without feeling anything so I tend to go overboard sometimes.

On another note, You are a huge inspiration to me because I really don’t like to work out. Especially at the gym. You have made it possible for me to keep in shape and work on myself at home. Where I don’t have to worry about people judging me or sizing me up and down. This is an amazing site and I really think you guys are doing a great thing. You are a real dream team. I love watching your videos and following your advice. You are both fantastic! I will soon send a really great recipe and pictures of my progress. Thank you for changing my life. I look forward to many years of bodyrock!!

It’s nice to hear you have problems too. I know that sounds bad but let me explain. I think people look at you as an untouchable. You have a wonderful attitude toward life, you’re always happy and excited about everything, but we only see a small part of you from day to day. I  think as humans we all know in the back of our minds that everyone struggles with their own problems. Sometimes we get soo wrapped up in our own lives we forget that not everyone is perfect. We may look at one person and say, “oh they have this or that and i don’t.” when at the same time they are probably thinking the same about us. I know personally that my workouts aren’t my problem, it’s my eating habits and stress gets to me too. I’m a nursing student and I have mid-terms coming up. That is some serious stress for me. I have test after test and papers to write, I’m not getting enough sleep and I don’t have time to make my meals like I use to. I know in the back of my mind it’s only temporary but to look in the mirror and see that little fold sneaking back, that seems to add more stress….and the cycle continues. The thing that keeps me going is that I know in 2 weeks it will be over and I can breath a little easier. I always tell myself when I get over whelmed, “it’s only temporary-it’s only temporary.” I then put on my big girl pants, put down the danish and pick up my homework. Your perfect the way you are and I thank you for making a difference in my life.
    Cheers

  • Kelly

hey zuz, I’ll start off by saying you look wonderful as always :)
I was thinking it might be cool to use this situation as an experiment, for yourself and all of us bodyrockers. You could strictly track your diet and meals and share them with us on a daily or weekly basis, in sort of a way to show how eating clean really can lean you out. Maybe this could help all of us meet some personal goals, no matter how big or small. Just a thought tho :)
Love everything you do for us <3

Thank you sooo much for posting this! It came at such a good time for me. I’ve been dealing with a lot of stress in my life and my diet has pretty much disappeared. Tons of sugar, bigger portions, or no portions at all. It is enlightening to me to know that I am not alone. Sometimes I come to your site and forget that you are a regular everyday person just like me and everyone else on here. It is humbling and reassuring to know that you struggle too! Thank you so much for being so open and honest, it makes your site that much better and makes me even more excited to keep following! You’re awesome!!

Cravings are an alert from your body that you need something. If you
crave sugar, that mean you need more B vitamin. If you crave salty
stuff, that mean your body ask for more potassium. So thats why we all
eat more some stuff at time. I’ve been into a period where my body ask
for red meat at least 1 to 2 times a week now. And I wasn’t eating red
meat before cos I hate the taste. This mean my body ask for more Iron.

I dont know what is your body fat % but I do know that to see abs like
we see yours, it have to be very low. Thing is that the body is meant to
not let you starve. And when he feels that you are starving, he start
giving you kick and make you feel that you are hungry for this or that. I
know that cos I’ve been through anorexia and other eating disorders.
Also, women body need more fat then man. at least 10% body fat to keep
you having your period and be fertile. To stay under the normal rate of
body fat also give you problem in the future to have kids. Cos your body
    feels stress.

If someone is telling you that you look fat or pregnant, its just
jealousy cos they are not able to reach where you are. You are a
wonderful lady and don’t worry with your cravings and the need to eat
more. Eat healthy as you do, eat fruits and nuts, dont ever worry about
that. Listen to your body cos he is very wise. He knows what he need.

    Love xox

You’re a wise woman, and absolutely right, lots of people who bodyrock or go to the gym or dance, …. are very strict with diet and when they go on an alleged bender it may well be the body saying I need fuel or I need minerals or nutrients and not just a fit of naughty.

And I wouldn’t care either if Zuzana or Freddy gained a pile of weight, they’d still be the positive wonderful people they are now.

  • Susanna Anderson

Zuzana, you are so cute and bubbly and you don’t take yourself too seriously. I love these things about you!!

I just wanted to say that I have to admit that I noticed your weight gain, and I don’t agree with people who say that you should just ignore others noticing it, and yourself noticing it…because according to them, you are FINE. Being FINE is not something I strive to be, I always try to push harder!! think that it is such a powerful feeling to know that you are being the best YOU that you can be. Everyone knows their “limits”…and they like to use that as an excuse to stop themselves from pushing even harder to become physically, and MENTALLY stronger. I think that it is just. Important to keep getting mentally stronger as well as phisically stronger. They go hand in hand.

I love SWEET snacks! That is my weakness! I could eat twinkles, doughnuts, candy, ice-cream cake…all that stuff, till the cows come home! Hahahah….but I DON’T. PERIOD. I just don’t eat any of it. I will allow myself to have a very small price of cake at a birthday party but on a aily basis I do not consume them. Also, portion control used to be a battle for me as well, but I have really gotten so much more mentally stronger over the years, that I don’t have a problem at all with it anymore. The days that I find the hardest for me, and probably a lot of women, is around that TIME. Of the month. I get really strong cravings for junk!! These times are the best times to use you STRONG willpower and not give in to your cravings! Sometimes I even have little “battles” with myself in my mind over something as simple as having a few more cookies after I have already consumed the appropriate portion. These battles are good for making your willpower, and mind stronger…just like workouts are good for making your body stronger. Have some battles with your mind, and see how it gets easier each time!!! Just DON’T give in!!! Sometimes it can even feel like you can’t live without something, like a snack, at the moment but you will realize after you don’t give in, that you CAN live without it, and you feel so proud of yourself!!

Don’t settle for FINE! Push to the limit! We only have this one life, and one body to. It’s exciting to see just what we are capable of….and it is always DO MUCH MORE than we think.

    Xoxo

I go through phases as well and stress absolutely makes me fat. The week before finals and all the way till the day after I take my final I eat too much of the healthy stuff and even some stuff that I shouldn’t be eating. I have been doing really well the past two weeks and have managed to drop a couple pounds but it wont be too long till classes start again and the cycle starts over. Lack of time makes me gain weight too because I love large portions of healthy food but again too much fruit is bad and I am addicted to fruit and can eat it all day everyday in obscenely large amounts. I’m looking forward to hearing more from you about you diet and slimming back down. I think it will help me to shed the last 5-8 pounds off my frame. Also visiting some of you first workouts has helped me. They are longer like 20 or 30 min workouts and I think it has also helped me to shed some pounds in the last few weeks. I think increasing the lengths of workouts does help to compensate for extra food and maybe that is something to think about with our workouts this next week. Maybe back to longer workouts :)

You can try mindful eating it can help you eat less.  http://www.psychologytoday.com/blog/mindful-eating/200902/mindful-eating

Another way is eat plenty of vegetables, drink smoothies or drink fresh vegetable juice.

what we eat is mostly a habit.  if we allow ourselves to eat junk once, then it becomes easier to give in the second time, and even easier the 3rd.  Thats kind of where i am now.  For years i ate ABSOLUTELY NO processed sugars, junk, chips, candy at all- but at those times i ate a LOT of healthy food and snacked on nuts and raisins constantly.

Now, i eat smaller portions, but i started to eat junk.  Idk how this happened or when it did.  Somewhere i got the idea i was depriving myself by not eating junk, but i feel so much worse when i do.  Im trying to getting out of the habit of allowing myself to eat junk- but its so hard.  Ill be eating healthy all day, but if i see something delicious infront of me that is so easy just to pick up and eat- i totally collapse and give in. I give up without a fight at that moment, and its so easy to make that choice.  But its so hard to live w it after.  Sometimes, when its not artificial, i feel like these snacks are nourishing my body- but i think its just my body craving sugars and fats to prevent “starvation”.

Idk, there is a fine line between nourishment and over eating and its so hard to tell what your body needs.

OO one thing that absolutely works is listening to your body by practicing yoga and meditation.  A few months ago, i got rly close to my self.  I could listen to everything my body said, what to eat and exactly when to stop.  i felt amazing, light.  I did not even want to eat unhealthy things- because my body did not want them. Tara Stiles is an amazing yogi w tons of videos to help anyone get started w this, here is a rly good one http://www.youtube.com/tarastilesyoga#p/c/854C3B78F5ECFF6A/2/auDPI2cHFq8

but… i lost that after i went thru a tough breakup.  then i was so stressed and busy studying for my AP English and US history tests that i couldnt get back to myself.  So here i am now, trying to retrace my steps and figure out how i got to that place of peace w myself.

PLEASE WATCH THIS VIDEO, or go to Taras youtube site :)

You are so spot on. I am printing this out. There is a special place in heaven for people like you ;)

Thank you for sharing your problems with us – now it seems we’re equal. ;)
Anyway, I have real problems with sticking to my diet or healthy eating. I binge with junk every now and then (or nearly every evening), and feel guilty afterwards. I feel disgusted about myself and everytime I look myself in the mirror I see imperfections, parts of me that I should mend. Then I would restrict myself again by eating very little during the day and repeat my binging ritual. The more attention I give to food, the more issue it is becoming. At some point I forget about myself, my wishes, wantings and how I am feeling, just because I pictured this ideal and ‘perfect’ way of eating. It gets horrible at times. But then I guess at some point I hit the botom, when I’m so stressed out that I feel I can’t and don’t want to live like that anymore. Then I start listening to myself again. When I find contact with myself it usually comes to tears, when so long neglected child in me cries in releif. I realised I put myself behind, I put my mind to things I wasn’t doing ‘right’ (at least in eyes of some ‘fit’ people), I stopped listening to my soul and that distinction led me to the oldest reaction I learned, trying to fill the gap inside – binging with food. And that only widened the gap. I like to think now that I am soul with body, not body with soul. My feeling good and finding purpose for myself comes first. If I condition loving myself with how I look or how I eat, I will be disappointed most of my time. If I have love handles and want more toned body – will I hate myself until I satisfie my ideas? Will I punish myself for not being the way I want to be and make one more step away from reaching my new goals? No! If I do not love myself, my soul and who I am now, I don’t feel loved and accepted and I neglect myself. I wanted to have six pack so badly and was angry about not having one yet, punishing myself with food about it and feel horrible, that I forgot when I was feeling good, what I want and where my heart lies. I am lucky to have my love beside me to remind me about things I achieved that I take for granted. Well, they are not. Having six pack or not, smaller or rounder butt does not mean that you are a good person. What truly matters is how you feel, if you fulfill your wishes, love yourself and follow your dreams. When you make peace with yourself and accept your body, whatever shape and size it is, you begin to feel you’re home. Then you are safe inside yourself and strong enough to make changes. We are good all the way!
Best wishes and thank you for bringing this up!
    Love, masage

    Hi Pavlina,

I like you comment and pretty much agree that it is an average not so much the spikes we should be concerned with.  You do want to pay attention to sudden needs for foods and such things, but if you’re at a birthday party and eat some cake and ice cream don’t  beat yourself up (folks).

BTW, disqus tells me at the “dashboard” that I have no comments and takes forever to get to the point I can post!  That last maybe related to the volume of visitors here, but there are other bugs that I’ve seen and others have mentioned.  Like being unable to create paragraphs and a single carriage return being made into two or three returns.

Are you people OUT of your minds?? If SHE looks fat, there is NO HOPE for the rest of us!! She is such a great person and role model, blogging and putting out amazing workout videos each day for us, for FREEE and you have the nerve to critique her?? WOW. That is all I can say. Her body is amazing,  as is her dedication to fitness. And she looked pregnant?? WHAT???!! If I looked like that pregnant, I d make sure I was pregnant 365 days a year!! You guys are crazy!! If I was Zuzana, I would shut this site down immediately for all you obnoxious, ungrateful people, and you can go elsewhere for your workouts and fitness info. Unreal!!

    Hi everyone,
I wanted to share my diet struggles… I love eating clean and I believe it is a habit like everything else that you have to get into. I mostly watch what I eat and it makes me feel great but there is days when it is not possible or emotions make me eat something I “shouldn’t” eat. I think we all have that every now and then and I think it is nothing to worry about. I also think that breaking the clean habit is sometimes even good for the body. Same thing with muscle adaption and plateaus. Change is good also for the diet. I really love that about you Zuzana – that you are who you are – not pretending to be perfect with this! Keep on rocking our days! Hope you guys are coming to Hamburg on your world tour! Would be great to meet you! Love, Stefanie

Hi everybody, thanks so much for your positivity and helpful suggestions! In fact, I’m actually getting ready to go grocery chopping with my Mum right now :D I’ll be on the lookout for healthy substitutions and keep all of your helpful tips in mind! Thank You! Thank You! xD You are all my inspiration and strength!

To Ana: Your predicament sounds so challenging! -__-’ I hope that you too can try some of the helpful suggestions that were given to me. Stay strong and Much love!

Is it bad that I’m so thrilled that Zuzana replied to me xD Zuzana you are my motivation :D

    Hi Janet,

I think I will put Walnuts on my “junk foods” list for a short while.  So as you wisely suggest…just don’t buy them! I would advise Zuzana to do the same thing for a week or two and see how that goes.

Zuzana, I love your abs. I’ve lost 35lbs. by eating healthier & avoiding alcohol; however I am working hard to get a six pack like yours. I’ve learned alot from you and I appreciate your advise.

I’m really surprised by all the comments in regards to this video.  For the most part I find that Bodyrocker’s are very supportive of one another, but here all I really see is conflict, which is disturbing.  I think that it’s easy to forget that Zuzana has many followers that will have many different types of struggles.  If eating is not something that you struggle with or you feel this video doesn’t apply to you, I don’t see any reason to bash everyone that feels it does apply to them.  There is also no reason to get upset that someone commented on Zuzana’s weight, it’s simply a observation on their part and not always a judgement, remember it could be a simple cultural difference.

I believe the goal here was to open a discussion in regards to diet, eating habits, etc for educational purposes, not for pointing fingers at each other.

    Hi Rea,

Thank you, I would add if you can go shopping and cook with your Mom it will help with your natural bonding and make your life just that much easier, Parrot.  On better substitutions Brown Rice is a healthier choice and most people who try it like it.

I think all of the comments to Parrot, just show the value of this community is beyond measure.  Thank you Zuzana and Freddy!

omg, i can´t believe it that someone told that your are gained weight or something. Zuzana – YOU LOOK AMAZING AND BEAUTIFUL!!! :) you are my inspiration, girl !!! :)) The most important thing is that you feel good in your body.
thanks for the honest video and post, Zuzana.
    Enjoy your day :)

I started BodyRocking in January. When I went back into the workout archives, and saw you with blond hair, I thought that you were way too skinny back then–especially your arms. Back then they looked toned but too small, and now they look super strong. You have been my inspiration to gain weight just so I could look as good as you! I used to worry that I would only gain fat–that I would loose my chances of getting a six pack and have flabby thighs. But when I followed you and gained weight, I noticed that instead of gaining fat, I gained muscle. You (at your higher, but not bad, weight) inspired me to do this. I’m curious what your body fat percent is, but I bet it is ridiculously low. You look fabulous and are a wonderful inspiration for women to love their bodies at healthy weights rather than unnaturally skinny weights.

I stayed away from posting since March though
I still bodyrock six days per week. I think the question in this topic is where
to draw the line on healthy body image to an unhealthy one. My personal
opinion is this, if  some  bodyrockers felt they needed to comment on
maybe 5lb weight gain by Zuz demonstrates ours ( as a society) obsession with
the issue of weight. I feel the reason we still having the discussion is
because people on their road to fitness usually falls between extremes no matter
each side of the discussion they are coming from. As a society we do this we
food … it is either famine or feast. Very few people can survive on 1000
calories, and very few needs up to 3000 calories.

To think that an individual can maintain the same body
weight without fluctuation is somewhat naïve. Forget eating too much fruits or
cashews, physiologically a human being weight changes throughout the month. The
ideal way is not to deny yourself food, but to have balance. Could it be that
Zuz’s body need more calories to maintain balance for now?  Even professional athletes do not maintain
peck shape all year around. Any extreme on weight (underweight or overweight)
    is not good.

In conclusion, I must be obese at 5”2 and 125lb because I
think Zuz is taller and probably weights less. I guessing I should do something
about being so fat. People let us use some common sense here. I come to this
site because of some core values that aligns with mine, unnecessary wariness,
and carelessness in intentions are not part of them.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1032746471 Lamya Layal Guellim

Same here I feel like I’ve becomet too skinny, I’ve got muscles everywhere, amazing abs ect… but I want to weight more and I want my muscles to get a little bigger because my bones are very thin…
I also looove fruits especially really sweet fruits like dried figs and raisins dates… Sometimes I feel like I can stop eating them lol, I eat them alone as a fruit meal since fruits shouldn’t be eaten with other foods because they’ll ferment the other foods in your stomach. But it’s ok I think to eat a lot of fruits these are not bad calories they don’t make me fat.
The real problem is chocolate, I often crave not as much as in the past though, so I’d wheat once a week or more sometimes and have dark chocolate or nutella with bread…

Thanks for this video, and you look great you didn’t gain fat it looks like you’ve gained muscles

    Hi Bodyrockers,

In light of zusanna’s dilema with diet, has anyone heard of the 80/10/10 diet it is a low fat raw vegan diet but it is more of a lifestyle that just a diet I think it would compliment the bodyrocker moment as exercise and moment is a big part of the lifestyle.  I read the book and was very impressed by the simplicity of the system.  it covers 22 areas of life that need to be looked at inorder to treat yourself right and be fulfilled etc.

Keep up the good work everyone

    Kathleen

  • Craig

Seems to me like there is enough scope in this discussion for a range of opinions and perspectives on the video. Fact is, the footage appears to outline the following: a very fit and healthy individual, who exercises regularly is worried about eating too much food occasionally. However, the food in question is not unhealthy- nuts, fruits etc. Strikes me that classifying that as a ‘problem’ could be considered to be an extreme reaction. I would have thought that balance is the key. It is perfectly natural to eat more or less at different times, just as it is to exercise more or less dependent on circumstance.

  • http://www.janetspreiter.com Janet

Well said! I completely agree that conscious eating (eg not stuffing yourself in front of the tv) is key. In fact, I would add it help in life overall to pay attention to habits and beliefs!

    Dear Freddy,

Thanks for the comment and stressing out what’s most important no matter which angle we’re approaching the question from: the focus SHOULD not be “guilt” but “difficulty”.

Please, don’t get me wrong. If I wouldn’t admire Zuzana the way she is, I wouldn’t be here (and certainly wouldn’t spend hours reading others’ comments and sharing my own thoughts – and by considering certain “concerns and fears” nonsense does not equal negligence but means simple, however subjective, disagreement with them).

When I say that “a woman of Zuzana’s body has to be feeling (even remotely) guilty about her weight” I’m not thinking about Zuzana per se, but others out there, who would do ANYTHING to look like her and may think: “if she considers her craving for nuts terrible and thinks that eating too much fruit is a problem, I should…” you know what I mean?

I’m not going to withdraw my opinion and I was prepared to be minority with it (it’s good to not be alone though), but let’s clarify that I do not underestimate anybody’s struggle, or free choice of following any diet. I just wish everybody to live (and let live) HAPPILY ever after – and the amount and nature of exercises we all do here every day should in itself make us happy and proud and shrink our feelings of guilt and struggle. m/

  • http://www.janetspreiter.com Janet

I agree. Anyone who makes unkind comments about zuzanas body fat levels should not be allowed to post unless they also provide a large zoomed in, well lit photo of their very own thighs and midsection for us to contemplate

Who cares if Zuz has gained a few pounds, like she said no one is perfect and it’s hard to keep up the good habits when stressed. I’m struggling here as well. I’m at home all day looking for work and all i do is get cravings for sweet things. I don’t keep many around my house but the craving kills me.

I still think Zuz looks great (better than me, that’s for sure) keep up the good work ;).

Zuzi sweetie, you are amazingly beautiful. I did not notice that you gained weight – if you gained weight it must be muscles honestly. You look gorgeous – you have beautiful forms (made of muscles) and I wish I had your body.
Every bodyrocker wishes they could have such an amazing body trust me!

I did not believe in working out only 12 or 20 min a day – but your body made me start bodyrocking and realize that you can be fit by working out only 12 min a day.

It is so nice to hear as well that you are just human and yes sometimes you eat too much but who cares as long as you are conscious of it and correct it. I thought your diet was perfect so it makes me feel better to hear that ;)

Again you are GORGEOUS from inside out. You are such an inspiration for all of us and this amazing body made us start bodyrocking, because our ultimate goal was to have your body!

What about cortisol? I wonder how much of a factor that contributes to weight gain during stressful times. I’ve been going through some ‘stuff’ and have also gained a few lbs over. Some of it is for sure eating more ‘comfort’ foods, but like Zuz, I make healthy choices, but just eat too much of it. But I also know that cortisol, the stress hormone, signals our bodies to hold on to fat, particularly around the midsection. Does anyone else know a little more about this – or natural ways to curb it?

BTW Zuz, I think you’re still drop dead gorgeous, with or without a few extra kilos. And love you even more for sharing your struggles and opening this discussion. Thanks!

    Janet

I had eating disorder in my early 20′s and when I finally started to eat again of course the weight came on. I was depressed and anxious. One day I thought “do you like your friends because they’re fat or thin or buff or … no. I love my friends for who they are the wrapper is very secondary.

If a friend does gain a lot of weight my only concern is, what is going on, are they unhappy? ill, stressed? Is there something I can do to support them? The person inside doesn’t change.

Hi Guys! I think this was such a great video! I’ve been having a really hard time with my diet too. I was doing all of my workouts, but not eating so great, and then I find myself getting upset because I’m not losing weight or seeing a difference in my bod. I was getting pretty mad because I’m putting in really hard workout when I’m working out, but I know I was definitely sabotaging myself. SO I started eating a lot better! I’ve been concentrating on eating more fruits and veggies and I eat my veggies first. :o) I just started this and really want to make it a habit.
I understand that I’ll have some slip ups but I promise to remember that tomorrow is a new day.

You guys are awesome! Thanks for showing us that you’re like us “norms” out here. PS I think you still look amazing!

If this is what you and your body looks like when you are struggling then I hate to break it to you Zuzana but apparently you are as close to perfection as one can get. If I had the body you have right now I think I would live in a bathing suit just because I would be so proud of having such a beautiful, sexy, toned, perfectly muscular, fit and strong body.
Because your body and level of fitness is so intimidating (to me at least) it is your equally beautiful personality and humility that makes you so easy to want to follow and try to compete with. When I first saw you back in August of 2010 I was amazed at your physique. I thought wow, so it is possible as a woman to be muscular and toned. fit and strong, and sexy as hell. Since then my goal has been and still is to achieve what you have achieved, aesthetically and physically. And I know because of your and Freddy’s dedication to this amazing site I will get there. I don’t think I can come close to any words that can truly express my gratitude for you two and your site.I must admit though that hearing you talk about struggles is a bit comforting. I say this only because I have often wondered how can one person be so perfect: dedicated and disciplined. It is so hard to achieve and maintain the level of fitness you are at, especially as a woman, that I often have been baffled by your abilities. I say this because I consider myself to be a fairly disciplined and dedicated person: religiously work out (and really aim to give it my all every time I do), eat clean/healthy 90% of the time, make sure I get plenty of sleep/rest, and just live an overall balanced life. But my body is no where near yours. I mean I am fit and lean and certainly can’t complain, but I don’t want to just settle, I want my body’s version of what you have: the abs, the muscles and the strength. And after listening to you today I must admit that perhaps the reason I am not getting the results I want (not yet that is) is my struggles with portion control. Eating healthy is not the problem. Understanding that even too much of healthy food is the problem. I overeat when it comes to fruits and raw, unsalted nuts and seeds. The fruits I can sometimes manage to eat less, but the nuts and seeds that is where the discipline gets really challenging. Your simple honesty and willingness to share your journey is as refreshing and beautiful as you two are. Again, thank you.

On another note, I am so thrilled you two will be in LA for a while. I live so close to where you are staying that I am just hoping I one day bump into you two, and can buy you a real cup of coffee, before you head off onto your next exciting destination.

Zuzana, thanks for this video. It makes diet easier and more realistic. :)
I too know how to eat wright and what to eat and what time… I’ve got everything figured out, but still I can’t make myself to do it all the times…
I had some health problems 2 years ago and I had to eat wright. So I lost 8kg in 8 weeks (which is not healthy I know… but I only ate the right things… I was still eating quite a lot… so I lost weight just because of the good and healthy food) and I felt amazing… I was healthy, fresh, my knee didn’t hurt at all… But then I started eating “normal” again and I gained everything back and more (especially in the last few months because I was studying for my degree paper).
So now that I have my diploma I’m trying to eat wright again and workout as well… But I’m taking “baby-steps” with everything. Because I know that the last time I did the whole “healthy lifestyle” thing, I did it too fast… I cut everything “bad” in 1 day and kept going like this for about 3 months (until my stomach was OK again)… but at the end I couldn’t wait for the day to eat some junk food again…
So I figured out that what I need to do is change my lifestyle slowly, so that it sticks “forever”. :)))
I think that’s a good plan, but I have to work on it…
Thanks for everything! Both of you!

That was beautiful, well written! I second this for show!

When you were talking about cashew it made me laugh.
Seriously i didn’t notice that you gained weight.
When i’m doing wrong choices in my diet for some time(like during two to three weeks or even a day) i tend to think i gained weight (then maybe i do but my husband doesn’t notice it) and i feel so bad about my mistakes, that i soon go back to our healthy eating.
Besides we are no monks, and the path to a healthy lifestyle will never be easy.
That is also something great it will never be a routine.

i’d like to add that you changed during these last months but for the best . You became much more muscular and it is very beautiful.

Zuzana, your body is at the aesthetic point where you eat one pea too much and it shows up on your body. I think of all of the insane things that competitive bodybuilders do to stay as lean as you for just a few days and I am floored by how you are able to keep it consistent with just every day diet struggles like the rest of us. And for the record, I more noticed a difference in your hair than in your definition. PLUS you’ve been under stress AND you just traveled. I wish that I looked that marvelous jetlagged. I take a 2 hr flight and I come out looking like the corpse bride. Keep up all that you are doing Zuzana. You don’t need to defend yourself against idle comments. We’re here because we love you as you are.

Guys! just chill out, if some one asked them if they were pregnant, they assumed it comparing her to herself. Can you even say she looks like a regular woman? So, if she is ripped and awesome looking, means she would look as much different when she is pregnant. Plus, when you get pregnant, you don’t grow belly or any thing untill 4 months. You just inflame a little bit in the first few weeks. That’s the point, some people have just been so precise about her looks. Just because she is perfect though

Well, I agree with most of what you say.  However, at 44 years old and 178cm, I can no longer eat the previous 1700 kcal/ day.  I teach 3 days of BootCamp and 2 days of Kickboxing, yet eating that much food has steadily put me up to 198 pounds.  Yikes!  For the past 2 weeks I’ve been religiously eating only fruits, veggies and lean meats/fish, under 1000 kcal. I get my carbs from fruit and sweet potatoes, etc.  Finally the weight started coming off.  I’m currently 191.  I still have a long way to go.  So for me I’m realizing now at my age my metabolism has really slowed down, even with my active lifestyle.  So, keep that in mind, as a woman ages, you don’t need as much food.  And no, my energy has not suffered, I make fruit and veggie smoothies and snack on green beans throughout the day.  It’s not bad physically,  mentally, I  just miss being able to eat like I used to… ah well.  Anyways, Zuzana, you are such an inspiration to me!

  • Kabgirl24

Even if you did gain alittle weight it is hardly noticeable.  You certainly dont look pregnant.  They have way too much time on their hands if they are noticing differences in your weight enough to ask about it.  I will say that I havent noticed the weight but I have noticed that on certain routines you seem to get tired more easily than you normally do.  I only say that because I have seen you master alot more than recent workouts and you’ve been pausing and taking more breaks than you used to.  I know how that is cause I just recently gave birth (c-section) like a week ago and I know that when I start really working out again that it is going to be interesting to see how much strength that I lost during that 9 months of modified working out.  Although I lost alot of strength, I am so happy that I didnt stop working out throughout my entire pregnancy.  Alot of women told me stories about being in bed for a month after c-section, well it has been a week since I had my son and I am already able to walk an hour a day.  Once my stitches heal completely I am going to start doing the same workouts I was doing when I was pregnant until the doc gives me the okay to really workouts.
But anyway, it is good to know that you are not super human but as human as the rest of us.  As I have told others, what you guys provide the rest of us is a haven of inspiration and motivation to be fit and attempt to be healthy.

Somebody you asked if you were pregnant? :O You look amazing and shouldn’t listen to other people’s opinions! Obviously they’ve got some problems. You are gorgeous! :] And as far as diet goes, I think that’s my problem too. I eat healthy but my portions can get too big. Like you said especially with fruit and nuts (cashews are so good!) I have to admit it’s nice hearing I’m not the only one who has these problems :D Oh and it can get really hard getting 4-5 meals in a day sometimes. I’m gonna keep working on it though. Looking forward to hearing your advice!

  • Tania

Thanks Katie for that question because Zuzana forgot to mention her daily diet.  I am currently doing the Insanity challenge along with Zuzana’s workouts on those days that I don’t have 40 minutes and their approach is to keep each meal at no more than 300-400 calories.  Interesting and effective.  Never was one for calorie counting and still not however this approach is helpful in keeping your portions small.  Zuzi please share a day in the life of Zuzana.

You don’t HAVE TO “watch what to eat, when, how much”. It is a choice YOU made, once you set a goal for yourself to either lose weight or be more fit, whatever your reason is to join the BodyRocker movement. Even if you don’t have the above goals, with the food industry being where it is today, it is probably a wise move to watch what you eat…

Additionally, with regards to Ildiko’s comment: so what, if one is of a skinny build they automatically are spared of body image issues? and I’m not implying that is what ZUzana’s having, rather using myself as an example. I have always been quite skinny, however, during a very stressful few months, I was no longer able to fit into my size 0 pants. YES, I was upset over that. Iwas not anorexic or anything, but that was just my build. No matter what your size is, for a girl- if it goes up, generally it is not a pleasant feeling. Additionally, when you already feel upset about this, it hurts to hear people judge you.

  • Kungfooflea(Annalisa)

AHH! A fellow West Indian! :D I’m from Trinidad and now up in Antigua!
I started to prepare my own meals at home around your age. My mum also was into the carb infested West Indian cooking and also I was vegetarian and she liked meat. So I started to prepare my own meals and anyone who wanted was welcome to have. The only difference between us is that I started working at 16 so I was able to buy my own groceries…maybe if you offer to cook for the family then your mom will buy the ingredients. If not offer to make a vegetable side dish for everyone that you can let dominate your plate. ;) Don’t be discouraged. Curry and rice are not bad for you (plus Zuzana has posted a couple healthy curries here too that you can share at home) so just eat smaller portions with a large side of veg.

Good luck with your exams! P.S. My mom is from Guyana too ;)

     What fat?  What?

  • Annalise

One thought related to all of this is … I haven’t posted photos of myself, partly because I don’t want to for privacy reasons, and partly because I am not as toned or perhaps slim as others.  However, I feel fit and strong for my body shape and size.  A massage therapist remarked yesterday that he can tell I’ve been working out because my muscles have excellent tone, even my obliques which you have to feel under some fat for:)

I am wondering about if any other bodyrockers would (or have) posted photos if they are not as super toned as others, or perhaps have a bigger frame: it might be encouraging for someone like me to see that.

Or perhaps I could post a photo without my face in it!

I definitely get into a chocolate habit when I’m stressed.  However, I am grateful that I at least have the baseline of the bodyrock habit that continues through the stress:)  Which I can then remind myself to build the diet habits on top of.

    Thanks,
    Annalise

  • lUCy

    hi guys :)
well I don`t notice you zuzi win weight, and….where is it?! Personally I don`t believe in diets, sometimes “I `m on diet” but I just take care about what I eat and I try to eat more healthy and less portions, but that`s all. Sometimes you can`t eat what you suppos to eat or just can`t for your activities, work, travel, family… sometimes you don`t have opcion and just have to eat what you have it! With your Diet Challenges I get more conscience about food, and yes, I loss some fat but yeah I don`t follow it word by word, I just eat more veggies, fruit, drink more water, eat less suggar than I usually do, less chocolate.. bla bla! you know what I mean :) and I accept this weekend I had “bad behaviour” I drunk 2 sodas, a hamburger with frieds of course, (but like I have my hamburger I don`t get a sweet crepa, dessert) 1 piece of pizza, Ice cream, cookies and chocolate. Yeah I`m guilty!!! All this in 2 days :( Another problem without eating by stress counting, is if you are a woman, the period, yes! that hormonal misadjusts, you don`t eat because you need to eat, you know what I mean! Well last thing to said is my expeience here with the exercises; I lost kilos in the firts week but I usually won weight and I don`t fix it in my jeans and that was horrible to me :( but anyway I feel great with what I see on my body, muscles :) I said in my head: Don`t Panic!!! so I believe (and trust) in you guys, because I see the love that Zuzana put in the workouts, and I decided following doing the workouts; yeah I see less fat in my body, beauty muscles, better condittion and learning and learning more, this is for life. And I`m sure that I will fix in my jeans again or maybe a size less, and that I will get my beauty six pack (abdominals), and that I will post my profile and pics in BodyRocker yeahhhhh!!! ;D    and Zuzi is normal you guys are stress, you`re moving, finding a new home,  new proyects. But hey Zuzi in Califonia you can find the best price on clothes :D so, go to shopping!! is a good exercise too :D haha! love Lucy :D

stress makes me fat… I know that for a fact! When I’m stressed, I’m bloated, my skin isn’t as glowy, and I reach for everything IN reach to eat! Of course, same as you Z, if I’m extremely stressed, I don’t eat at all, which we know causes our bodies to go into hoarding zone… so that stores the fat, and we gain. Zuzana, you’re a human being, you’re a normal woman who lives a wonderful life of travel and excitement… You are a wonderful person who is here on earth to share your soul with us, and we are all so thankful that you care enough about us and about bodyrockin, that you are so completely honest with everything. I think that’s what truly helped me become a complete bodyrocker :) The truth that living a healthy, strong, fit life can be stressful and hard at times, and cause natural feelings of wanting comfort. I, like you, try to eat the healthy foods, but mine is almonds and dark chocolate :) I don’t think that asking if you are pregnant was not the right question, as anyone who has some common courtesy wouldn’t point it out… duh… if you were, I think you would tell us :) but I digress….. I think that you’re fabulous, and that you’re normal, and the fact that you’re acknowledging it, will help all us other bodyrockers learn how to find our own triggers and find other ways to handle it! Have fun in LA… and if you can – go to Xai Lounge… you’ll love it :)

Wow. Great talk. I honestly think that the weight you are now is perfect.  And the weeks before, I have noticed that you were looking extremely lean. If that’s how you want to be, that’s great! Don’t let anyone else tell you otherwise. Woman to woman? Diet and exercise has been picked apart by everyone since this whole health craze started. I think that if you look good, feel good, you’re doing good and who cares what anyone thinks. So you were eating a lot of cashews. Guess what? They’re loaded with healthy fats and that’s fine with me! I don’t think there’s anything wrong with your weight and in a weight-obsessed culture/world, everyone has advice to give on how to eat healthy, eat right and how to exercise and sleep and walk and talk and drive and it’s just absurd! Being at a healthy weight isn’t about conforming to other’s idea about body image. It’s about YOUR idea of YOUR own body image. What’s right FOR YOU. Not anyone else. I’m 5’2″, 258lbs. I’m working on losing that. I really am. But according to doctors and ‘height/weight’ ratio, I should weight 125lbs. I myself think that’s WAY TOO THIN. For me anyway. I feel that 130 or 135 is the ideal weight that I should be. And I want to be as muscular as Zuzana is. With that in mind, I honestly don’t think I can weigh 125lbs and still be muscular. I know that you do these workouts as a passion of yours and I respect that. I also appreciate that it’s free. (Besides the internet cost) I’m just trying to help you out with the worrying part of  the diet and exercise part of your life. There’s no need to stress over something that we humans have been doing since we were put here on Earth. It’s natural for us to eat and exercise. Don’t let it be just one more thing on your stress list that you have to take care of.

    Much love,

    Sarah Spencer

Wow! I would have never saw this topic coming!  I always am thinking to myself how consistent and healthy your body looks!  I truly would never have noticed that you put weight on-and I’m not just saying that!  I’m even having a hard time believing it!  You’re so beautiful and your honesty and candidness just accentuates that.  Weight fluctuations can be discouraging and even troubling at times.  I’m sure it’s even harder when you’re in the public eye and “head” bodyrocker.  I, for one, think that makes you all the more credible and inspirational.  Thanks for sharing the hard stuff with us too!  Stress makes me gain weight too!  I’m very rarely the opposite where I can’t eat when I’m stressed.  I’m slender but feel most comfortable at a certain weight.  When I’m out of that weight range-even tho I’d still be considered normal-I just am not feeling the most comfortable with my body.  Feeling confident with my body extends to feeling confident in many other of my abilities as well.  This is why it’s it’s so important for me to like the way I look.  It’s not a vanity issue so much as a strength and confidence issue.

zuzana, how was your diet different in malta than it  has been lately?
I went back to older videos from each of the places you guys lived, and i have to say you look the best in malta and in the canada farm house.  You still look AMAZING now, but it looks like you have more muscle, maybe a tiny bit more fat.  I cant exactly put my finger on the change.

  • Donna

HI Dana, I am with you on this topic because I truly never noticed that Zuzana had put on weight and if she has I bet it’s a very small amount:) Weight fluctuations are a pain in the butt for all of us:( I believe this person or people that made these comments about her weight hurt her feelings:( and I can understand that because I have been hurt many times by family members or friends with there stupid comments even if I haven’t put on any weight. I also think it’s because we exercise on a daily basis people think that we are MACHINES and should never have a weight fluctuation. I love Zuzi for who she is and what she does for all of us:) I would never judge someone by their weight:)

Wow Z.  My first comment would be to say “Thanks for keeping it real.”  Being transparent like that is a quality to be admired.  I honestly could not tell you have gained anything, but usually we are the first to notice these changes in ourselves.  I am an emotional eater.  Sadly, that pertains to any emotions!  Haha!  Sad, but true.  It is not a huge struggle for me, but I really have to be mindful of it.  But like you, stress, the blahs, and even PMS make me want to eat and eat.  And no, not the good stuff like fruit and nuts!  Usually the work week (Monday thru Friday) is easy for me to eat right.  But come the weekend… it takes a little more willpower on my end!!   When I first came across your site, of course the first thing I noticed was your physique.  Wow!  “I sure wouldn’t mind looking like that,” I thought!!  So what if you’ve put on a few pounds!  You’re human and yes, food can be comforting.  But I know you know how to take it off if you feel uncomfortable with it.  I would think that’s part of what makes you as successful as you are in your appearance.  Now if you just ate crappy all the time and never worked out, then yes, you would have a problem.  But you don’t.  I hope you don’t take the negative words and criticisms of people to heart!!  You’re awesome Z and I would still follow your workouts – with or without those extra pounds!  :o)  Thanks again for keeping it real!!!!!

  • Bodyrockerchick

wow you look amazing even when you are “not trying so hard” … ? i wish I could have your not trying so hard body!     thank you for being honest :)

i am soo happy you posted this… it really makes me feel better.  i actually don’t like nuts (they make me feel stick to my stomach lol my mom has a nut allergy so im not sure if that’s an early sign or anything lol) but my weakness is dark chocolate.. i love it, and i try so hard to give it up, but sometimes a girl just needs her chocolate lol i too make my chocolate choices on the “healthier” side– i keep it to the serving, and only eat dark (i dont like milk or white lol) but i only get the baking chips too… but i feel so weak sometimes after dinner if i’m craving and just need a few chocolate chips… but this def made me feel better… i guess we’re all human… even you :) thank you Zuzana, another reason why i absolutely love you <33

  • http://www.facebook.com/Sofia.B.LopezBilbao Sofia

Thanks for posting this :). I think maybe the reason why people commented on your weight is the fact that you always do look perfect and that you always seem to be making the best choices in eating. I know it’s hard for everyone and we all struggle with something but you make it seem all really easy, in a good way. So thank you for sharing your struggles with us as well.

Stress is definitely one of those things that make it hard for us to follow healthy habits, and ironically it’s one of the times we need these habits the most. At any rate, I still think you look amazing and probably better than those who made negative comments about your weight.

  • Donna

    Hi Mily,

Sorry for the late reply I only just saw this now:) Almonds and raisins are 50g servings and walnuts and brazil nuts are 30g servings:) Don’t eat cashews often so I’m not to sure about those but make a habit of always checking the nutritional label on all foods and you won’t go wrong:) I eat nuts everyday now but always weigh them and I am still losing weight:) If you go over your calorie intake it doesn’t matter to the body if it was a good food or bad food scale wise…

  • Goldie

I find my trouble is my diet. I have the most incredible will power and motivation when it comes to exercise. I walk/jog 50 miles a week. I do 20-40 mins skipping a day and throw in 2-3 of Zuzana’s work outs a week. I love to exercise! I love to sweat and the feeling once I’ve made it through a workout.

I also love food and making the right choices is so hard sometimes. I have to give myself a break though and take credit for the fact I do exercise and It could be worse. I could be eating badly and a coach potato!

I’ve decided to take it real slow where my diet is concerned and simply try to make 2-3 better choices through out the day. e.g. fruit instead of cake. Skimmed milk in my tea. Water instead of coke. Those three changes are positive.

I’ve also decided that on those days I’m not doing so great e.g. when I have a cheese sandwich for breakfast or sometimes I skip an evening meal (very bad) or put lashings of butter on a slice of toast I have to cut myself some slack – it’s not the end of the world. I go do 10 mins of skipping just to feel a bit better and more centered and get back on track.

    No one is perfect.

  • Donna

I forgot Pistachios which are 30g serving size and I looked up Cashews which are 28g serving size:)

Be proud that you BEAT the eating disorder!!!! Don’t ever get weak and let it pull you down again, Victoria! I have been “playing” with it myself 2-3 years ago. It was a nightmare every single day. My two sisters have been through it and are still not cured, which makes every moment a struggle for my family. Strong and HEALTHY is the new Skinny!!!

its interesting cause I have been following Zuzanna for a really long time now, almost since she started her blog. In the begining she had a great 4 pack (her words) and get tone but her muscles werent large or ripped like now. When she was relaxed you barely even noticed the 4 pack. She spoke then that she used diet to keep her muscles small by not eatting as much protein. So she intentionally didnt want the big bulky muscles. She has evolved since then and become very muscular. I think she looks fabulous Now and Before. Additionally her and Freddy spoke a few times that they eventually want to start a family. I remember Freddy even saying “maybe even soon” one time. I dont think people asked if she was preggo because they were trying to say she was fat, they just wanted to be the first to call it. I almost never read negative comments from other bodyrockers, (maybe they are not approved) but I think the larger majority here are really good people and I dont think they would call her fat, I think they noticed less definition and they asked about it but not from a bad place just out of curitosity. I dont like hearing that other bodyrockers are haters or jealous cause i have never seen evidence of that. Were all like family here!!
    Hugs.
    Sabrina.

Bless your sweet honest heart Zuzana! If you have gained
weight your body has distributed it in a most attractive way. I see no need
whatsoever to be concerned about your physical health. :-)

From an evolutionary standpoint, eating more for days or
weeks, and then eating less for days or weeks is natural and good for your
body (as long as it’s not junk food!). As Zuzana said, she may have been eating more the last few weeks, but she
has been eating real healthy food; therefore, health and body composition hasn’t
been compromised. In addition, she hasn’t stopped doing her formidable workouts.

This compels to me to ask why anyone felt the need to point
out any perceived weight gain or other possible event.  I think, in part, it’s projection. When
someone has unwanted feelings or qualities about themselves, they project them
onto someone else, which makes them feel less alone and/or feel better about

So again, bless your sweet heart Zuzana, for addressing this

     - I think it’s very well put how you stated that as well. It’s an amazing thing to see someone transform before your eyes, and see all the wonderful, positive things in Z’s life… whether or not that particular person had any malice behind their comment, there is definitely an inside battle going on inside themselves…

Zuzana again – I have made a few comments on this thread, cause I feel it’s so very important that people realize that they, we, us… as bodyrockers… are human and are living lifes of normal people… my husband believes you are one of the most sexiest people, as not in just a “physical” sexy nature, but how you are able to movitave all types of people to change their lives to strive to their own “perfection” – which, what we believe as perfection in my house, is you DOING your best with a whole honest heart, and give your MAX EFFORT at all things you do… Keep rockin with your rockin body!!! :)

it amazes me how many HATERS wacth these video’s just to comment negatively; they cant be true athlete’s because if so you wont have the time to worry about another person gaining weight.  it’s a part of life! I’m training for a figure competition in July which isnt far away and I’m struggling w/ coffee and chocolate.

Eating too much fruit is possible.  You might not see the effects in short term but after a few years most people end up with health issues.  The raw food experts have told us time and time again.  Sugar is sugar just because it’s fruit doesn’t mean it’s good.  There are some raw fooders that will eat only fruits.  They will defend their diet.  But in actually test results they have many issues.  In the short term fruits shouldn’t make you fat though unless you’re eating high sugar fruits like bananas.

I am also speaking from experince i used to eat a lot of fruit and made my health worse not better.  I do eat fruit but only 1 or 2 serving daily at the most.  Time will tell anyways.

I think you misunderstood, I’m pretty sure she does eat what she says most of the time. But like everyone of us, Zuzana has periods in her life where she needs some break.

     Hi Zuzana,
You’re just being a normal human being, that’s all. And you have your weaknesses and your favourite foods that sometimes you can’t resist. Who doesn’t ? I actually very much like it how you look now, your body looks more feminine, softer. You guys had a couple of stressful weeks with all the moving and missed more workouts than usual and of course the calories, if they don’t get burnt, they get deposited.
My honest opinion is that you actually have more glow this way, probably from the more estrogen ( the fat tissue synthesizes estrogen as well ).These pounds look great on you !!!! I wouldn’t call them extra pounds at all, they’re very well placed pounds.
But above all, it’s your health that matters. If you’re healthy and super-fit, what does it matter if you put a few pounds on. You’re not on a diet, you don’t need to be. You just need to eat healthy and you probably are. And I am sure you’re watching it, it’s not like it’s going out of control.
It happens to me too. But then I remember how hard and for long I worked to get this fit and I either work out more, or cut fats from diet, or eat more salads instead of cooked food, drink more smoothies instead of breakfast with waffles, and so on.
    You rock, Zuzana !

Zuzana thank you for sharing yet another part of your self with us. You r human just like the rest of us. I think you look wonderful. Ive followed you a year and a half now and I really enjoy doing your workouts and getting to know more about you and Freddy and your lives together. I feel as though I know u even though Ive never met u. My husband says u talk about her like shes your friend, well thats cuz I feel like u are, and Im sorry and I feel bad that when you try to share a part of your own struggle or a peice of yourself with us you get attcked by certain people. I hope you know that there are true Bodyrockers out there that think your awesome and appriciate you sharing yourself and this FREE site with us. We love ya!!

  • Zoe Quixote

so, i think you look awesome.
i don’t think i’ve seen anything here about counting calories, but i had a question about it. in ballet, they suggest 1200-1500 calories/day, but none of the dancers have muscles like you (they are a little frail-looking, though very strong!), and i heard that was because they don’t eat enough for the muscles to develop? i like the muscles better :D so i was curious?

  • Annebel Wind

    Hi Zuzana,

I am really happy that you are talking about this. I have some problems with diet and have been posting about this on the site. I have had a lot of wonderfull advice of other bodyrockers. Like the link to: marksdailyapple.com  I have bought the book and this helps me a lot. I just find it really dificult to deside what to eat and when. Also my body doesnt seem to want to lose its fat. I have a layer of fat everywhere. the worst is on my belly and lovehandles. So I am trying to be really strict with this diet and follow this book. Because nothing seems to work with me jet… I must say that you are really a example of how I would like to look and where I would like to be with training in the future. I hope you will keep up the hard work and spread the fitness spirit out over the world. I am soooo proud of being a bodyrocker!

  • http://www.janetspreiter.com Janet

Yes, I agree. Just the wrapper!  Well said!

  • AudraFit

Hi Annalise, I’m not super lean like Zuzana or other bodyrocker’s and I’ve sent pics in yet to be posted. But, I’m proud of my smaller frame. I’m prob between 17- 21% body fat year round and I carry most of my fat on my thighs, butt and waist. Hope this helps :)

And actually I didn’t notice any weight gain, not even after you said it. But I did notice the glow and that you looked “softer”. I thought you were just plain happier for some personal reasons :).

    Thank
you Zuzana and Freddy for giving us a chance to talk about overeating
and our eating habits, because everyone who has been following this site
at least for some time knows that eating is as important as exercising
and everyone creates their own formula with time for both of these
things. We all came here and come back every day because we get support,
inspiration and tips here. So I think that the most important is to
talk to each other about what helps us to get through bad days/weeks,
help others to reach their goals whatever that goal is. Because I am
sorry but i honestly don’t see anything in the video worth criticizing.
Concerning the topic, my problem #1 is portion size control, and reading
a lot around internet helped me understood one good thing there is a
difference between hunger and appetite, sometimes this thought helps me
not to over eat and i learned the best way to cut out all of the bad
foods from my diet is to substitute, for all the bad
foods that i used to love, I substituted ALL of them for good foods and
this is probably my formula to eat healthy and not to stress about
unhealthy cravings. Because we all know that bodyrocking is a lifestyle not a phase =)

Thanks again for this site and what the two of you do, its really amazing!

this is something i have struggled with as well. i react the same way to stress as Zuzana does. if i am stressed i find myself eating junk or sweets, but if i am overly stressed i find myself not eating at all. And for some reason i have had weird cravings for sweets lately, like on a daily basis. This never happened when i started working out, but its happening now. Sometimes i can’t take it and i give in, by having a cookie or some frozen yogurt, or a piece of dark chocolate but I guess thats just wat i need to work on. I need to hold myself from these cravings. No matter what, or how much im craving it I won’t eat it. I can definitly say diet is something i struggle with too..

PREGNANT?!???…now that’s the funniest thing I’ve heard in a very long time!!

Zuzana, if it’s any consolation I haven’t noticed you looking heavier and I’m on this site ALL day long every stink’in day!….I think I might even be boarder line stalker, LOLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL!!

However, you bring up an interesting topic, because not only am I an emotional eater, lately I’ve been having a difficult time with knowing what to eat, when to eat, how much to eat, and struggling with not having enough time to fit in a workout. So, you can imagine how I’m starting to feel right now…bloated, sluggish, tired, flabby, FAT, weak, I could go on and on, but I think you get the drift.

It’s kind of comforting to know that you give into temptation, have your weak moments and struggle from time to time. I wish and hope that I can get a handle on this and figure it out, because it’s starting to take a major toll on my mind, body and soul.

I wish you the best of luck Zuz……much love all the way from Canada,
    Tammy

P.S………….I can’t wait to see what you have for us this week, I DEFinately need an A$$ kick’in!

  • Patrick

what?!!! you do not follow your own advice!!  that’s it, no more bodyrocking for me!! :)
perfection in eating….perfection in exercising….how boring would that be!

i just wish i had zuzana’s abs after she ate 6,000 cashews.

I know that anytime someone mentions something about my weight increasing it does hurt my feelings-even if I play it off. Not so long ago, a co-worker said “I like you with a little extra weight.”  I thought to myself, “what a DUMB thing to say!”  I’d like to know ONE person on the planet who eats a perfect diet all the time and never experiences weight fluctuation!  It’s just part of the human experience.

I have an enormous amount of respect for you and it’s posts like these that make you more relatable and genuine…I just love this site!  The fruit thing I get, I am forever loving more fruit!  Being pregnant I am definitely having a bit more of what I crave–if healthy–but I know for certain that all of us do struggle with our diets and not one of us has all the right answers or eating habits~So, thanks a lot for this post and for your honest words.  You made me laugh a few times too :)  Love you girlie!!!

after watching this video my mood lifted 100%!!! for a little while now ive been beating myself up for not “properly” following a clean diet, i made myself feel like a “zuzana” wanna be, cos as i ate too much of something i was thinking, you idiot, zuzana wouldnt do that! you have no discipline, loser! But when i listened to zuzana talk about these struggles you have no idea how it has lifted my spirits, yo rock zuzana!

Ummmmm…..okay clearly I’ve missed A LOT lately and haven’t caught on to what others’ are saying……WTF……Zuzana gaining weight????  WHERE???…..in her big toe???? LOL!  HONESTLY!  She looks NO different to me at all!!!!  The audacity some people have…..wow!  Zuzana…..you’re my workout hero!  Head up!  Thanks for all you do!!!!  CHEERS!  :)

    thanks for sharing this Zuzana!
But now, I don’t have any excuse – before you were these superwomen eating tiny portions so I thought I could never look like you :)
My biggest problem is diet – I am devoted bodyrocker for 1,5years, trainig hard, very little sugar and processed food, but portion sizes are the biggest problem for me…
Trainig is something I love and will never stop, but still don’t know how to loose those extra 5 kilos still there on my hips…
Would love to hear similar stories of people who got over this problem!
    Love to all bodyrockers!

  • Indigo_echo

    Hi Zuzana,
I understand completely how stress affects not only your eating habits but basically your whole lifestyle. My husband is an infantry marine in Afghanistan and left on Jan, 1st, our 1 yr anniversary. Also I’m working two jobs to pay for a custody battle regarding my son with my ex husband and the way I handle this stress of constantly go go go or wondering if my husband is ok when I havn’t heard from him in weeks is I DON’T eat. I have no appetite and no time to eat so its convenient for me to say that well since I’m not hungry I don’t need to MAKE time to eat something. Ironically though, I will ALWAYS make time to workout.  I also have trouble sleeping. This all has been affecting my workout performance and I find that pushing myself to workout when I’ve lived off 2 pre workout shakes  for 2 days is not producing the results I’m used to seeing from my wourkout routines. I mean, man and woman can not live on pre workout shakes alone right? We all handle stress in different ways and body composition is different for everyone. I know I still look lean and fit and from the outside people don’t see the inefficiency that i feel every time I put my kickboxing gloves on or pick up some weights or do a burnout on pushups. I know where I should be and what drives me nuts is that I’m not there anymore. So, my question is this….how do you let go of stress or at least most of it regarding things that you can’t change or have any direct and definitive involvement in determining the desired outcome?
Although I believe that being healthy is a lifestyle, as with any undertaking there are distractions and set backs and life is filled with reasons to skip meals or get double portions or drink too much at this party or whatever the detour from our normal fitness lifestyle may be. But I think being able to recognize those set backs is the first step in making sure they don’t become a lifestyle. We should just take one day at a time and face that days challenges without stressing out about tomorrows problems cuz they’ll come soon enough. My husband used to always ask me: “where are you? what time is it?” The answer is Here and Now. I’m still working on internalizing that but, hey, I ate dinner with my son today….and it wasn’t a pre-workout shake :) so i’m making baby steps.
I guess what I’m saying is YOU, Zuzana, need to be happy with you and how you look. Screw what everyone else says. . . they usually have an agenda. But if YOU know that you’re not doing what you normally do, or performing the same way or YOU don’t like the way your calf muscle looks or whatever…Then try and fix it…whatever “it” might be. And its a day by day process. I KNOW what I don’t like about the negative turn my habits have taken lately, and I’m working on it for my own health and so I can be around to play football and give piggy back rides to my grandkids. Don’t take seriously what others say. Our culture has groomed people to be focused on scale numbers or the barbie figure and REAL fitness isn’t even common knowledge. 99.9% of people don’t even know what it means to be truly fit. But I think you do and you honestly accknowledge your personal struggles but I hope that’s because you are trying to improve your mind, body, and spirit for YOU….and not the massive ignorant public that is so quick to tell you where you need work when they probably don’t even know what gigantic leaps they need to make to be healthy.
I would hate for you to get burned out because your trying to make yourself something that other people have conceptualized that you should be. Training and being active and healthy should be a fun part of living and loving life.
So on that note, take care and I wish you the best of everything.

    Hi Parrot,

It seemed likely that you were a girl. :-)  I’m happy you are going shopping with your Mom.  Try to gradually introduce new concepts and foods.  Relate them to her experiences and knowledge and if the family can’t stand one thing try one of the  variants that exist.  Again you can always bounce ideas off of use.

Zuzana does seem really busy now days so that she singled you out is I think pretty cool.

    Take care,
    –Chris

    Hi Vera,

We all have slightly different (and sometimes way different) metabolisms. I have high blood pressure and seem wired after a workout. At times I don’t want to stop!  I never want to sleep after working out unless it’s very late at night and I’m exhausted from the day as well.

I like the plate size thing!

    –Chris

  • Anonymous

    Hi Girls,

I very much like what you two have to say here.  I have friends and family who I love dearly and that they are large in heart is wonderful and a bit sadly also large in dress size is of little matter.

I wish everyone could be fit and healthy, but we live in an age were it’s hard to set goals and even harder to be true to them.  Lots hype and spin in the world.  I like it here mainly because of Zuzana and Freddy being truthful and honest people and you folks who have level heads as well! :-)

    Take care,
    –Chris

Zuzi, make sure you let us all know when you’re considering doing that so many of us without children can keep up with the new bodyrocking schedule lol!! :)

I must say I am pretty shocked by reading and hearing that somebody asked if you where pregnant? You are looking amazing and you have a sixpack… Eventough you have been going grazy on the cashews..:D I just asume if you would be pregnant you would probably tell your bodyrockers !… And you surely as…. do not look pregnant! Believe me I have much more fat and am not pregnant..Anyone can wish they would look like you!. I am still shocked… If anyone has the link to the pregnant comments.. I like to read it to believe it… Love you guys!!!

  • Annebel Wind

I really agree with these wonderfull comments where. It’s true that most bodyrockers only have nice comments and it might be that they where just curious… I do not know. I just think Zuzana looks great. And to me I do not really see it… It’s probably a minimal change what they were asking about.
And about the first comments that were made… to me it’s to much based on looks.. For me bodyrocking is about feeling great and being fit more than the looks. Looks are also important, but the rest commes first for me.. But that’s me…

  • Micha79

You’re right! When I feel like I’ve made a mistake in my eating, I definitely go and do a workout… even 10 min interval skipping and some burpees, and I feel ten times better! :)

Wow Zuzana thank you so so much for posting this video… for talking to us and opening it up to us. It makes me want to hug you with thanks! I have been struggling back and forth for weeks now with my eating… and trying hard to keep BodyRocking. It is nice of you to blog and be honest, and i loved the “I’m a perfect trainer who eats perfect all the time” hehe… you are awesome… so down to earth. How did you get to be like that? lol. Seriously though, thank you, i really enjoy learning the sideline things like this. I am speechless that somebody asked if you were pregnant… even gaining weight? You look amazing from your videos from six months ago, to 2 months ago, and NOW, in the video, you look amazing.

I love this video! And of course BODYROCK!!!! And thank you again xx

It is hard, no matter what.  Thanks for being honest.  Thanks for being willing to push through.  You are a good role model for all who need to learn that if you don’t do it right one minute or one day it is ok.  Just keep trying.  Stay focused!   :) :) :) :)

I was just pointing out to the “haters” out there that IF you were…and I know you’re not, but IF you were, why wouldn’t this wonderful, dedvoted, caring community the two of you created support that and be happy? Instead of acting out in a very selfish way by mentioning some weight gain (like Kimberlake said, “where in your big toe??”) and wondering if you were pregnant.
I hope you understand my explanation…(still trying to clear the cob webs from my eyes this morning and trying REEEAALLY hard to get motivated to do a 12min workout before I get my girls ready for school. Zuz….I’ve been following you for almost 2 years now, but only felt confident enough to start doing your workouts about a year ago…What you two have created has been life changing (when I don’t fall off the wagon, lol)

first of all, i would like to thank you so much for your honesty, Zuzana. i really did think that you were like this perfect trainer who hardly ever struggles with her diet. when you guys posted the ‘no sugar’ diet challenge and you said that sugary cereals (and ketchup for Freddy too) were your only vices, i thought ‘wow! that’s pretty impressive!’ so the fact that you have come out in this video to share with us that sometimes you struggle with your diet and over eat, just makes you even more beautiful and human.

second, i would like to say that it’s very understandable if you have struggled with your diet lately. stress is a nasty culprit. but for the past few weeks you didn’t exactly have a regular routine (packing, the move with the dogs, traveling and sometimes only having enough time for a 4 min. workout) and i know that when my routine gets messed with, my diet suffers. you were also visiting a lot with friends which can lead to eating out and a few drinks. furthermore, when you are traveling you’re more inclined to drink less water because you don’t want to be peeing the whole time!

just recently my routine got messed with and with just a few days of bad diet, i really notice the unflattering changes in my body. my husband and i were away for 4 days. i started the trip off really well. i was eating well and the hotel we stayed at had a gym, pool and sauna so i totally took advantage of the amenities and even walked the dog every day ;). but by the 3rd day i really slipped. we ate at the hotel restaurant which serves breakfast all day. i admit i do have a nasty sweet tooth and was really craving sugar that day. so for dinner i ordered a belgian waffle with strawberries and whip cream and i also had dessert =[ !! i felt like total crap afterwards and pretty much sent myself straight into a sugar coma. the next day we were traveling back home, so i didn't work out and we were eating on the road. my diet was blown again =[. by the end of it my arms looked bigger and flabbier. my abs weren't as defined as they normally are and my legs felt like wobbly jello. it's such a confidence killer.

i also have a history of eating disorders. when i was in high school i was anorexic and bulimic up until around the age of 21. i would starve myself for a few days and then i would have a day where i would just eat and eat and eat. and then of course i would get rid of it either by vomiting or using a bunch of laxatives and then the cycle would keep repeating itself. i felt so much pressure when i was younger to be as skinny as possible and it was such a miserable time in my life. by the time i was in my 2nd year of university, i developed some much healthier habits. i started going to the gym or swimming every day and i ate very healthy cuz i knew i needed the fuel to do these things. since then i haven't slipped. now that i am 31, i find it so much more attractive for a woman's body to be fit rather than just be skinny or what i call skinny fat on some people (you know, you're skinny but you're flabby). but i also believe that some of the binge behaviour has stayed with me a little. i can follow a perfect diet for a week, two weeks..but then i'll have a day where i just crave junk and i feel like i just have to have it, so i do. i want to get to a point where i'm strong enough not to cheat at all. but sometimes i think it's good to get the cravings out of your system (as long as it's not happening all the time!)

at some point or another, everybody falls off the wagon. it's normal and it's human. but it's not about how many times you fall. it's about how many times you get back up again =] !! if you have been working out for a very long time your body gets used to being so fit. so when you slip up it’s not so bad. if you work hard and get back on track right away, usually your body will get back to its old self in about a week or less (depending). most of the time it’s just a lot of water retention anyway. sometimes there are things that you can do in addition to working out and perfect diet that will give you a nice jump start, get you motivated again and make you feel better. sometimes i like to do an 8 day cleanse, an ionic foot cleanse, drink lots of Detox tea (from Teaopia which is Canadian not sure if they have it in the states), sit in an infrared sauna…whatever is going to get me on the path to feeling like a million bucks again ;). and don’t forget that with the hotter summer weather our appetite decreases naturally =] !

so that’s my novel for today. normally i don’t write comments that are this long, but i hope this helps you Zuzi and i hope it helps anybody else who has ever had struggles with their diet. you are not alone. i love the Bodyrock community and how our stories, comments and tips can bring us all together to help each other out on our path to better health and fitness =]

    much luv

Amazing words hun!  And sooooo true!!  :)
I am a devoted BodyRocker for life as well….thanks to YOU for introducing it to me and thanks to Zuz and Freddy for creating it!  I wish them all the success in the world however…..I can’t imagine this sight coming to an end or not being available to people like us!!!  (Who cancelled their gym memberships only to be 100% commited to BodyRockTV!)

Thanks Zuz and Freddy for all that you’ve done and continue to do!
    CHEERS!  :)

It is good to talk about weight fluctuation. But Zuzana looks great!!!!! We all have our moments to eat something we shouldn’t. Realizing & getting back to healthier eating is always better. We are human : ) You are such an inspiration! I started working out with y’all in Feb. after watching videos for about 2 months. It was realy hard for me @ first but they are getting… not easier, just I am able to do them now with much better form, without hurting myself. I have never had a weight issue so I’m very lucky there. I have found that age & gravity are not so nice to us though : ) So that being said you guys help to push me into toning up this not so tired anymore 45+ body. I have 4 kids ranging 22 – 4! They have always kept me busy but now I need the extra energy from these workouts & the bonus of actually getting my butte back up where it is meant to be : ) Love y’all & keep up the great work outs. Finding y’all has been such a Blessing to me. Good luck with your travels.

I wish I was fat like Zuzana :)
Maybe she and I could trade bodies for a year then I would be ripped and lean–oops I mean fat and squishy like her.

Yeah, chubby comes to mind when I see pictures of Zuzana! :-)

    Hi Maria,

We can all related to bad days at work.  I’ve known a few women in my life and I think I can understand the feelings you get when your favorite clothing doesn’t fit. I imagine other women here can really relate to you crying over it.  I also explains why you folks take so long in the bathroom (kidding).

With your schedule it sounds impossible to keep a healthy diet.  Not eating at the right times will mess up your metabolism to the point you will retain fat no matter how much you workout.  There is no way to bring a large smoothie or something like that with you and drink some of it at about the “correct” time?

    Hey Annalise,

I have taken two sets of photos, but only for myself.  From now on, I plan to take them monthly in the same outfit so I can see my progress (hopefully).  I don’t plan to send any in for at least a year for the same reasons as you.  For me, these workouts deliver results in the form of increased strength, energy, flexibility.  I used to run 2-4 x/week & do an hour of weight training at the gym 4x/week.  I couldn’t do 10 full push-ups though!  Now I can so about 30-35 full push ups in a row.  Since Feb of this year I have basically only been doing Bodyrock workouts.  My muscles are definitely more defined now than when I started in Feb.  Also, I notice that when I hike, run, or do some other activity, I have MUCH better endurance.  I believe that if I continue these workouts, I will see big changes by next Feb.  I know if I work on my diet, this will happen faster!

I have no idea what my body fat is, but I don’t pass my mirror jump test.  My mirror jump test is that nothing (or almost nothing) on my stomach/hips/thighs should jiggle when I jump.  This is a challenge, because I have an hourglass type figure.  At my leanest, I was ~ 18-19% body fat.  I estimate that I’m ~ 22-23% right now, but since I started these workouts, I’ve become much stronger.  My weight hasn’t changed, but I notice less jiggle compared to February…especially on my butt & thighs.  For reference, I am 5’9″ & fluctuate between 136-140lbs.  Historically, I look my best when I’m ~ 130.

I get massages monthly, & the therapists have also made comments about my muscle tone.  My favorite comment was “what the hell did you do to your legs!?” following the “tight cheeks workout.” One told me I have “good energy.”  A few of my friends have made unsolicited comments about how strong I look, one said my butt looks high, & a guy I golfed with called said something about my powerful swing & the gym.

I think that many of us are too hard on ourselves, & whoever told
Zuzana she’s looking fat must be very critical of themselves to make a
comment like that to her.  I am grateful to Freddy & Zuzana for what they do.  I love the results I’m getting, & I love to hear about everyone else’s success :)

    Sorry that was so long!

  • Danielle

I’m the same way- total insomniac and then I have NO energy. UGH

  • Pavlina

Thanks for your comment, Chris. It’s funny how disqus took a week to acknowledge the fact that I’ve got a comment from you, right after the same situation with you happened to me – kept telling me I’ve got no comments! I also have issues with writing and posting. Anyway…

    Regards :)

    Hi Zuzana,

I’m sure my message will get lost ‘in the flood’, but, oh well.

Please, please, please, reconsider the ‘measuring by eye’ approach with food and give ‘measuring by equipment’ a try. I’ve always been doing things by eye and thought measuring on digital scales and recording calories and keeping a food log was a bit autistic and over the top … until I tried it. Several things happened as a result:

    1) Turns out it’s not only not harder to do, but eventually it’s easier than cooking ‘by eye’ as you’re aware of quantities without effort and the ‘counting’ bit becomes automatic and effortless
    2) Lots of misconceptions (that most people have) were blown away completely. Cashews, for instance, I am now aware that a small handful is 300 kcal, which is like a small meal. One handful! I love cashews too, but if I crave them, I weigh as much as I want in a bowl (in terms of calories) and that’s it. Whereas if the approach is to stop eating from the pack when you think you’ve had enough … I would definitely overdo it in that scenario, anyway.
    3) Now when I see people doing the same basic mistakes I used to do (e.g. ‘drizzling’ a salad with copious amounts of olive oil and thinking it’s still non-fattening just because it’s ‘healthy’ … two very different things!), my new knowledge of nutrition suddenly seems so profoundly basic to me, that I’m seriously waking up to how most of the ‘facts’ we ‘think’ we know, have been nothing more than marketing statements that, for decades, have attempted to create a ‘dieting’ market, which has nothing to do with whether the stuff works or not.

I know you mean well when you try to be simple about measuring in ‘handfuls’, but, try the other side too, I guarantee you will gain many insights from it. Buy a digital kitchen scale and a simple Calorie app (or write things on paper) and make it a challenge to document everything for a week. What do you have to lose?

I recently went back home to Cyprus for a holiday (I live in the UK now) for a whole month. I knew I couldn’t be in control of my diet and exercise there (parents cooking for me, yum, and meeting friends all the time). For the first time though, I wasn’t stressed. Not because I wasn’t gonna get fat or out of shape, but because I am now so comfortable with my lifestyle in the UK, that I couldn’t care less about a minor setback, since I know it’ll fall into place back in the UK. (I put 1.5kg, of which 3.5 was fat, and 2 was muscle lost, apparently). Now I’m back and eating exactly the number of calories I want, at the fat / protein / carbs percentage I want, effortlessly, and without feeling deprived of any of my favourite foods. It’s been like a miracle for me! :D

Thanks again for taking care of the ‘workout’ side of things for me :)

I se myfitnesspal for measurements and calorie counting. You are right about it becoming effortless. I have friends who think I commit too much time to working out and calorie counting….it may look that way to an “outsider”, but it takes me the same amount of time to log my food as it does to browse on Facebook, and my work outs are barely ever longer than 30 min.
So cheers to prioritizing time… and accurate measurements!

Good morning!  Just got a chance to listen to your video.  Weight…a stressful topic.  Thank you for the post.  It’s all about the way you feel.  You could have 114,000 Bodyrockers tell you how great you look, but if you don’t feel comfortable it doesn’t matter…and vice versa.  Growing up I was always slightly heavy and believe me EVERYONE told me.  I know now I am fit and at a low weight, but only on select “feel good” days will you catch me walking around the beach in my bathing suit.  It is a confidence problem I have always struggled with.  It’s hard to talk about with just anyone, because people can get downright angry if you are a smaller size and dare complain about weight.  Bodyrocking makes me feel great, and make me number 114,001, I watch your videos and your ripped body and it inspires me.  Thank you, thank you.

Tara BTW…YUM! I totally can relate to the cashew addiction.

I just read an article in Time magazine regarding new research that claims the power of
suggestion is the key to controlling our appetites.  The article doesn’t state those words
directly, but it is what they mean. I happen to believe this myself… in the
majority of cases anyway, there’s always exceptions.

If others believe that it’s just a matter of mind over body
(or not), I would love to know your thoughts (Including Freddy and Zuzana!)!

    Hi “beverlyislike”!
Don`t feel alone with that problem, it`s the same I´m facing now!
Go on motivating yourself like you do and never give up. Just remember: It`s not only this summer, but the rest of your life you want to be in good shape and healthy. So anyway it`s worth your effort!

  • http://www.facebook.com/ildiko.mazar Ildikó Sünci Mázár

I’m afraid, you got me, girl. If there’s an App for it, I’m in it :-).
Just downloaded myfitnesspal on my iPhone and I love it already (spent 20 minutes retrieving calorie data from packages of cheeses and bread and meat – it was fun). My only question is: where and how do you take BodyRocking into account? I cannot say that these exercises are not training one’s strength, but at the very same time they are pretty cardio too. So far I can only get minus cals for my skipping, which is not right.

  • Anonymous

Fitnesspal is soooo easy, I know, I’m glad you like it! I dont have it on my phone but my friend says she can indeed just scan the bar codes of her foods if she cant find them on the list!!!! AND it stores it all for u so u dont have to look it up AGAIN!!!!!!!

Well I log exercise with a calorie counting/heart rate monitor watch.
I enter exercise, as you mentioned, as either cardio or weight training.
If use ANY equipment, I log weight training.
    If I don’t I use cardio.
Then I enter the time, the app will give an estimate of calories burned, but since I have an accurate count, I enter my own. The watch measures exercise levels, interval training being the highest.

I have logged on fitnesspal for 40 days now and have bodyrocked for 3 months. I have had better results these 3 months then I have in 3 years!!!!!!!
    fiend me!
    -Ynieves!

I’m sorry NOT “cardio” I log it in as “Aerobics, high impact” when not using equipment.

  • http://www.facebook.com/ildiko.mazar Ildikó Sünci Mázár

Thank you so much Ynieves, that sounds great. One last question: if I don’t have the calorie counter and I don’t want to fiddle with adding every single exercise every day, do you have average figures for the average 12/20 minute BR workouts that I could use as a standard cardio exercise? I know your counts wouldn’t be accurate as we’re probably not the same size/age/reps, etc, I just need an approximate ballpark (I never ever counted calories neither for intake nor burn off, so I don’t have the faintest idea). Thanks. And thanks again for the app recommendation.

  • Anonymous

For an average 12 minute workout of 20/10 sec interval I burn about 200-300 depending on the reps and how hard I push. I am 30, 125 lbs, 5ft 3 inches, if that helps….good luck and let me know if you have any other questions : )

I generally do 2 BR workouts so I burn almost 700 in less than 30 min!
When I used to go to the gym, I had to spend more than an hour in there to burn this much!

that’s great on the amount of calories burned!! I use caloriecount.com for my calorie count, and I have been short changing my calorie burn because it tells me that I’m only burning 173 for a 20 min workout – I’m 31, 5 ft 9 in and 190 exactly…. been trying to get into the 180′s forever! but, my body is shrinking in all places and tightening up in all the right spots!

  • http://www.facebook.com/ildiko.mazar Ildikó Sünci Mázár

Thanks a lot again, Ynieves. I’m not even that far from you actually, except that I’m an old metric ;-). 165cm, 55kg and 34 years of age.
I’m already hooked on myfitnesspal, spent hours todays adding my fav recipes and fiddling with the different types of exercises (really, 30 minutes of gardening is 108 cal and 20 mins of circuit training only 149?). It’s a whole new world with lots of surprises (who would have thought that a tiny 55g crumpet has 95 calories). :-)

  • Anonymous

YES! and its no wonder people struggle with weight loss, its so easy to underestimate calories!!!!
Its always “Oh I just ate a little this” or “I just ate a little bit of that” and the calories add up quick….not to mention the cals in ANYTHING we drink other than water? forget it! lol!!!!

Ppl are nuts. She looks freakin incredible. Zuzana could sway several pounds and still look perfect either way. The need to stringently pursue one exact size is the weirdest and most pointless fixation ever. We’re not robots–we’re organic beings that consume food, burn calories, store fat, burn fat. Fluctuation is a normal thing.

It is true, everyone has issues with eating. I am glad you have a good attitude about people’s comments to you because that could be bad for anyone.  I really wish people would give their comments about a person’s size/weight to themselves and realize how damaging it can be.  I love your workouts. I am not slim but I am in excellent shape for my age and have you to thank for it!

  • Lisa dickson

thankyou so much for this. I am the same, I know what to eat and what is healthy. unfortunately, after a couple of months of strict clean eating, I feel I may just gag if i eat another vegetable or another piece of chicken. I’m 41, and have always worked out since early 20′s. Have ALWAYS looked good. To the point that I get tired of being stared at by both men and women. Four months ago, I just gave up, I was so sick of the yo-yoing. I quit everything. I ate lots of sweets and fried foods. I quickly gained ten pounds and two sizes. :(  ALL the literature is right. I quickly went into depression by not eating properly or exercising. My body looks like hell and my back hurts constantly. Thanks Zuzana, this has helped to know that the die-hards struggle too and I’m back to my routine today!!!!!  THANKYOU< THANKYOU<THANKYOU

I just come to realize what “cashew” in French wants to say !! In France “Cachou” is a candy in licorice ! haha
So Zuzana as I understand you for cashews !! I love it too !! SO, that i stopped to buy it otherwise i eat them that very day !!!

I too struggle with over eating. I try to stay aware of what I am eating and how much because I know that too much is just too much. It is a struggle that I fight every day. But as long as I ask myself if I am really hungry before I eat I tend not to consume as much. But i am not perfect. Just last night I went crazy on honey roasted peanuts and chocolate cake. Thats when I get up and try it again.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Lauren-Lafitte/1123341759 Lauren Lafitte

thank you for sharing. I deal with my skin changing too after my pregnancies. It is hard for me to except my body sometimes but every day is a chance for me to try again.

    i’m right there with you

  • http://onlineczech.ru Daria Valentinova

I do… My dieting past (being close to anorectic) led me to surviving by just overeating. I survived.  My life is no longer in danger (in fact – I have a lot to lose), but my body still remembers the threat. and still tries to feed me when I lose control for a moment.

Once having a problem, we should just be always aware of it  – and put a little more effort to stay in control then people who didn’t struggle with weight or food addiction.

hi zuzana, I have so much Q about Diet…

    1) If Im a teen (& consistency Growing…) is it really safe to stick w/ your Diet Challenges ??? I mean… eating only 1 serving of Grains / complex Carbs per day (after the morning Workout)… is it really safe ?! how can I make sure I getting enough nutrients ???

    2) Sometimes I just don’t feel that I have working like Hard enough, & I want to go over the Workout again at the evening. can I do it ? & if I wanna lose weight – what should I eat then ? (after the 2nd workout…) should I eat complex carbs again ? or can I rely on one of our “regular” meals – fruit, veggie, protein ?

    3) I really REALLY messed up w/ my proteins. I only eat fish, eggs, cheese & yogurts all along the day & really like “afraid” of consuming other good protein sources.
I was a vegan for a long time & this was the f***ing hell-time of my life. I really looked like a skinny skeleton… SO now why Im afraid of is like the “non complete protein” – should we really be consuming COMPLETE protein w/ every meal ??? that says we should combine the starches w/ Grains & stuff… that’s so Damn confusing… & all of the measuring…
for example: “eat at least 30g of protein & 50g of complex carbs after your workout “- is it really Neccessary ? I mean.. doesn’t it sounds too much ?! can we go on approximately 10-15g (the palm of our hand)… would it be enough? is it matter if I workout twice a day or once ?
    I really messed up & I gained a lot of weight lately…

    4) How often should I eat the complex carbs & protein after my workout ? is it really true “the faster the better” ?… or should we eat like simple sugars like fruits & water & wait somewhere about 30min before comsuming our post-workout meal…

BTW since I’ve stopped veganism I can really know the INFLUENCE of each kind of food on the body. for example, Grains are make me smart, even if I consume them w/ small portions, they really help my brain like to understand complicated things & learning… WoW I’ve leanred so much about nutrition… & it never ends ! the main thing is that we all trying our best & that we should know that we ought to eat from EVERYTHING natural from nature, minimally processed, fresh, preferably organic, slightly coocked as possible… but there’s just NOTHING we should ever avoid ourself from !!! we should eat Everything in moderation !thank U SO MUCH & please answer these Q… this is SO important to me !!!

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Lauren-Lafitte/1123341759 Lauren Lafitte

Yes I too deal with that issue. It is very hard for me to control the sugar cravings. The cravings get pretty bad sometimes. The cravings are the one thing that stands in the way of me dropping this 10 extra pounds that I am carrying. The only thing that helps me is to talk very openly about my food issues with my best friend. She helps give me the strength to push through those weak moments. It is hard though. I will not say that it is easy in any way. I hate it because I will do so good for a few weeks and even drop a few pounds and start cutting fat, only to have one bad week of eating and then I have to start all over again. YUK! But WE are BODYROCKERS, so TOGETHER WE can do this!

  • Zouzou

PS Zuzanna I wish I had the same sexy “cellulite” (where, where?? ;-) than you have! Not visible at all, you are just so beautiful.
What I forgot to say in my other post is how much your honesty and humbleness make you even more beautiful.

Hey Guys please answer my Q… this is SO important fot me & for everyone to know…

Love & appreciate you all, Beth

I don’t know BR-Beth, Zuz or Freddy will correct me if I am wrong, but your questions about diet might be ones for your nutritionist or doctor.
Because you are still growing, you definitely want to consult your doctor about diet challenges and restrictions. The last thing you want is to hurt yourself I am sure. Again, I don’t know if Zuz or Freddy have degrees on or have studied nutrition for different ages and stuff, but your questions are pretty hard core, you need to talk to a nutrition expert, just because you are so young.

I am amazed at your determination to life long fitness at an early age….I hope my 11 yr old daughter has the same when she is your age.

I started reading a book titled “Nutrition for Healthy Living” it explains everything there is to know about healthy dieting and nutrition guidelines for different ages.
Not only do you have to consider your age, height, weight etc….but also family health history when choosing a pattern of dieting. Its tricky stuff.

I am sorry if my reply is of no help, I know I did not provide the answers you wanted.

  • Micha79

Ynieves – I would have to agree with you. It’s a wonderful thing to see a young, determined soul wanting to have the best for themselves.. I also agree with your answer on consulting a doctor or nutritionist. Every BODY is soo different, that what works for one, may not work for the other.

Keep rockin Beth, and we are all here to support and encourage you!

    BODY ROCK feedback on diet

    Dear Zuzana,

From the comments below I conclude that many only comment on you and your physical appearance instead of giving the feedback you are initially asking for which is: ‘Share your experiences how you manage (or not) to stick to a healthy diet that support your training’.

Yes, it is very difficult to do so constantly, we are only humans, not computers TG! Many daily factors influence our diet, e.x. travelling for work, moods, monthly periods! stress, you name it.

I think major key words are balance, regularity of meals and (as you said) choosing the right food.

Personally I do not believe in following any of those fancy diets advertised by any media, nor in counting calories or even worse in skipping meals.

I eat 5 times per day, I adore whole dark bread, the darker the better, salads and fruits but … also pasta, chocolate,  cookies, feta cheese and Greek food! The evening hour (9pm) used to be the toughest one, I could eat complete meals (again!). Fortunately I managed to cut this down to a couple of crackers.

I try to cut down the food portions by serving it on my plate in the kitchen instead of putting the whole pan on the dinner table (this prevents me from taking a 2nd serving!).

It’s important not to be too harsh on yourself and treat yourself every now and then, so on week days I stick to healthy and regular meals (lots of veggies and salads, fish) and allow myself something extra only on the weekend (chocolate bar or an extra portion of my husband’s Greek cookery!). Also when I DO eat something unhealthy or that extra portion, I try to enjoy it and not feel guilty. I just schedule a balance day (less food, no extra’s) for the next day + a work out because I know how great (and less guilty) I feel afterwards.

I’ve only just started with following your work outs (since early May). After a toe operation (bunion caused by ballet and perhaps running) I had to cut down on running and was so happy my husband found your work outs. Now I run once a week and am doing your work outs 3 times a week. Mind you I’m a 44 yr old full time working mom with a study as well so time is precious.

Yes, you look great physically but it is you as a person in particular who gives me the best motivation to stay in shape. Your initiatives (such as this one to try to set up this diet discussion forum) and advice are extremely helpful and I wish you (and Freddy of course!) all the best and good luck in LA.

    Best wishes, Irini

If you’re “fat” in this video, then I’m a freaking whale. But now to the topic, which is the problem with diet.

I know what I have to eat but it’s so hard to follow. I love cooking and eating but sometimes I don’t want to or I don’t have the time for cooking and just like to eat something allready done, which means: junk.
It’s tough, but I give it my best. Not only the mood I’m in and the physical shape is important but also the people around me. If someone eats junk, it’s hard for me to resist. If someone argues against my eating habits I get frustrated. If someone suggests a meal I should avoid it’s hard to say no, because on the one hand I’d like to eat it too, but on the other I have other plans in mind.
It’s incredible how people around us are able to support or demotivate us.

I eat five times a day. My breakfast consists of natural yoghurt with ananas and raspberry, with sojaflakes and crunchy cereal. Lunch is salad and varying things either soup or a small sandwich. For dinner it’s vegetable with white meat or fish. Inbetween I eat some fruits, crackers and drink a lot of water.

One last word: Thank you Zuzana, for being honest and saying that you too have problems. And that’s exactly why YOU motivate me. It’s not the gym instructor with incredible abs and an attitude of an egomaniac. It’s not the model on a magazine with photoshopped face and body. You two are honest, modest and normal people, that’s why after so many years you managed it go give me the right impulses to finally overcome my lazyness.

I really WISH that all of Q would be answered & explained here on the site for everyone’s know, those topics are quite important since we working hard & want to be energized all-day-long, alert, smart, get all the nutrients we need, don’t hurt ourselves etc etc… The life led me to the wrong path of radicalness – Anorectic – veganism that had nearly killed me. & that’s why Im so consufed now… I wish we could all get the TRUE answers, you know, those who everyone ask for, but also everyone is different, it’s not realistic to follow any diet/meal plans, & list goes on… HOOO dear, *Y IS THE LIFE SO COMPLICATED* !!! XD
sometimes you just thinks to yourself…: “Just eat this Particular food” But I really wants to be like EXACT, but that’s holds me back when Im too exaggerate.

Holly Crap, Believe me, there are so many “Health” Books out there, it’s TOO confusing when everyone of them would try to consider you it’s the best. I can pick a book like on raw foods etc etc You know what’s next (anorectic)…………………….. Nothings matter !!! is that the book you meant ? : http://www.amazon.com/Nutrition-Healthy-Living-Wendy-Schiff/dp/007722485X

I just wanna make sure I want make a mistake this time !!! Internet might be the most dangerous place sometimes. Thank you & have a great day !!! I really don’t care about the answers now, but for the attitude. Thanks & do well !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! <3 Beth

I am on your team Beth! lol!!! Your attitude and will for life long health instead of extremes is very healthy.

Just remember that you have a distinct body make up and family genes that are important to think about when dieting.

For example, if high blood pressure or heart problems have been present in the lives of your parents, grandparents etc. there may be foods you should consume more of or stay away from in order to prevent it from developing in you.

I got a complete physical and saw a nutritionist when I began bodyrocking in Feb.
I wanted to know my measurements, body fat, and I did some bloodwork to make sure I was taking care of myself inside first.
After I talked to my nutritionist about interval training, we came up with guides because in my family, we have , cancer, diabetes, heart disease and others. I am healthy and have none but I have to follow personal dietary guide lines to prevent this in the future.

BTW…if I may ask, how old are u?

I just started watching some of your videos for the first time today. You are SO inspiring and a joy to listen to and watch. The honesty about diet and weight that you show in this video is refreshing. Rarely have I ever seen someone in as good shape as you.

    what advice?

  • Lexi

I wish I could afford to eat the way you do. But, I do go to a low-income food distributor that hands out some fruits and veggies.
Thank you for sharing your workouts and diet tips with us!

what diet plan do you suggest for people who might a thyroid issue, and can’t eat certain foods? (i am getting tested for thyroid problems on Thursday)

  • Shayna

Zuzana, you are incredible. Prior to viewing this video, I thought you were superhuman and never strayed from your own advice. It’s beautiful and uplifting to know that you – my BIGGEST inspiration – are human and are also struggling with the diet plan. Your honesty and integrity – and betrayal of your ego for a moment – gave me an incredible boost of motivation. Thank you. You look hot as ever too. Damn!

  • Rwichelns

I just review this and being a PT with the same problem with over eating and being judged for not being ‘what I was 6months ago….’ I admire your honesty and being real! I know too many trainers and group fitness instructors that look fabulous but preach not to eat this not to eat that and if they did they worked out additional hours to burn off the excess food!! This style of training is dangerous and ruins the fitness industry name! I believe a healthy body should include: mind, body, and soul. If you are too stressed about what to eat what good are you doing to your body …. It will catch up to you one day.

Again thank you for being an inspiration and you LOOK Amazing!
