BodyRocker Kristin Starting at 250lbs and Looking for Support

Frederick & Zuzana,

I have recently found your site through my very fit sister. I am however not. I have struggled pretty much my whole life. I am now 32 and I have no children yet. I hope to one day, but I refuse to get pregnant in the state my body is in at this time. I am 5’10″ and currently weight 250lbs. My heaviest was 279 and I had gotten down to 231 and at one point 4 years ago I reached an all time low for me of 175lbs. January 3rd of this year I was 231lbs…and today I weigh 250. I have gained 19lbs this year and it honestly seems like I am going out of control. I do not want to gain anymore I want to lose this weight. To be happy, healthy and just because I want to look good for the first time ever. I watched for a couple of hours workout after workout (while I was working. I am in sales and on the phones all day. Meaning I am on my a$$ all day). While I watched, I felt motivated and ready to do this NOW. The problem is I have gotten so out of shape everything hurts, my knees, my back, I cant walk up steps without getting out of breath. You do a lot of lunges and physically I can not do them at this time I have tried. I need to incorporate various parts of your programs into something I am able to do at this time. I need help. I need a push. I need your help. I have tried everything else and I cant seem to get it together.. So… here it is.. I want to go all out with this starting with a before picture and maybe do weekly progress reports/blogs and pictures. I was hoping you would post it on your site. Show that someone that is so extremely out of shape can do this to and get results.. I feel that with me putting myself out there.. NO hiding.. that I cant hide from myself either. I need this badly.. I need this change.. Please either way.. Let me know what you think about this I would appreciate it. This was a hard thing for me to even ask. One thing I do want to mention. I do not have the dip station, sandbag or the interval timer yet. I am not only struggling with my weight and health but money as well and I am going to have to get one piece at a time.

I have included pictures. The first one labeled gross is me at my heaviest 279lbs, and the other two are from today weighing in at 250. I will be able to get better pictures taken if this is something you would like to do with me.

Thank you both for your time,

Kristin

    Hi Kristin,
Thank you for sharing your problem with all of us. We are a very nice and supportive community and we will do our best to support you in your journey. Please make sure to watch the workout tutorials where I explain easier variations for complete beginners. I will be even more mindful from now on to make sure that you can do the exercises at home. I don’t know what your current diet looks like but make sure to read through my diet posts as well. I am actually doing a new update about my diet approach today so check it out, becuase diet is going to be a huge part of your progress. Keep your mind in a positive state because there is no reason to be upset. As soon as you implement diet that will support your training and start working out on a daily basis the weight will go down. Just give it some time and in your own inner dialog try to be as supportive as you can. You can try something like ”I can do this, because I have me and I am my biggest supporter” plus all of us BodyRockers!!! :)

Hey Kristin!  Welcome to the BodyRock community!!

You have made one heck of an entrance…you ask for help HERE, well you’re gonna get it!  We will be checking in with you and want you to know you have got our support 100%.

Don’t worry about the equipment just yet.  Using your own bodyweight will suffice.  Once you get going you will understand what I mean.  Down the road, as you get stronger, build endurance and start to really understand the exercises, that’s when you’re body will tell you that it’s time to step it up a bit.  You will be amazed at what you can accomplish just using your bodyweight and having focus and drive.

Because you are ready to take this on, there’s more to this than just working hard.  It’s the commitment to being CONSISTENT.  Every day for the rest of our lives we will be active and eat healthy food.  Everything in moderation, including exercise.  This is important, because we want to be able to be consistent with this lifestyle forever.

    Look forward to your updates!!

Hey Kristin! You don’t need an interval timer. Just follow this link http://tabata.sperker.de/ .Its a free computer download for a tabata clock timer. Works the same :-) For the sandbag and Ugi ball variations, simply go through the ‘bodyrockers’ section. You’ll find loads! Every tiny step counts. Every time you pass on a sugary snack for a fruit adds up to you looking and feeling healthier. Let your results motivate you and slowly you’ll see changes. The key is consistency! Its at least 70-80% what you eat and 30% exercising. So be strong, hang in there. If you want it bad enough….go for it. Good luck :-)

Kristin, you CAN do it… FIRST… nutrition… keep a food journal and write down EVERYTHING you eat!!!  Before i found Formula55 (www.formula55.com) and Zuzana, I used sparkpeople.com it’s a FREE online tool that helps you track ALL of what you eat and adds the calories for you.  it’s an amazing free tool and just by using that, i had lost 15 pounds… in 2 months!  So i KNOW you can do it.  you can never EVER say the words, “I can’t” because that just really means, YOU WON’T.  You will.  I can’t WAIT to see your progress.  Take pics every 30 days.  because sometimes, the scale won’t say much, but a picture can say soooo much!

Krisitn , you can do this ! The fact that you posted ,shared with our(and I say our because you are a member of it) is a huge first step. Congratulations on your determination and courage ;-) I have a friend who is in her 50′s and although very thin structured by nature, had gained considerable weight in her midsection over the last couple of years and was also very much out of shape. She started meeting up with me once a week a few months ago to learn BodyRockTv workouts to incorporate into her week and also the diet recommendations and I am so proud of her. She couldn’t even hold herself up in a plank when she started nor did she have the balance/strength to really lunge or squat properly and she can now do commando push ups and is a squatting ,lunging pro! She has lost 25lbs and feels better ,looks healthier and is rightfully feeling pretty darn good about herself. So , welcome aboard , I think I can speak freely and say we all are so happy to have you ;-)

    Hey Kristin,

It’s awesome of you to put yourself out there and ask for help- and, I think you came to the right place. You’re going to find people to back you up and inspire others to jump in with you. Welcome to the community! I look forward to seeing your progress!

  • Jennyb 72

Go Kristen, Go! You can do it!!!!

  • Wansbek1968

Whatever you do, don’t give up, each day do a little more, push just a little more. My muscles get so sore sometimes.  I use a duffle bag that I have wrapped two 8 lbs weight in big fluffy towels (so I don’t clunk myself in the head) for the sandbag.  I do have the interval timer, get that first when you can. one thing you will start noticing first is that you are stronger, even before you start “seeing” it.
Also, the jump lunges I can’t do, I will lose my balance and fall, so I do regular lunges. I am so excited for you and know you are going to be so proud of yourself in no time at all.

  • Tackleitwithtif

Every day is a new chance for progress! You may not be at your goal yet, but you are so much closer than you were yesterday! Congrats on your success and keep up the great work!

    Hey Kristin,

I am very happy for you. You took the first step, which oftentimes is the hardest one, to your new YOU. I’m sure you are excited to start now and get things going, which is awesome!! However, just an FYI, there will be points when you will not see the results as soon as you would like (at least it happens to me) or some days that you want to give up. Please don’t ever give up!!! If you have one of those days in the future, just come back here and re-read all the posts and go out and kick Brutus in the nuts!!!

Lots of love from all us and welcome!!

  • Lauren

Hi Kristin!! Welcome! We are so excited to have you here.  You will find support here unlike any other place.  My biggest piece of advice is just to go all out on each exercise, whether that means you can complete one repetition in the allotted time or 50 reps.  You will see the improvements as you go! Just do the best you can, stay super positive and smile!! Don’t fret if you don’t have the exact equipment that Zuzana uses-I use a weight instead of the sandbag, a smith press machine bar or a treadmill instead of the bars that she uses and my stop watch instead of the interval timer.  You can ALWAYS make adjustments and tailor the workouts to what works for you.  Stay strong girl! We are ALL here for you!

    Lauren

  • Corrina

    Hi Kirsten,
Welcome to the most supportive group I have ever found!  Remember that most of us here have some struggle with our weight.  I lose my last 10 pounds, then stress hits me and I gain it all back again.  The key for me is to keep doing the exercise.  but instead what happens when I get stressed out, I stop! This is a learning process for us all and greatfully we have bodyrockers for that support.  Take it each day at a time.  Commit to doing the exercise today.  Thats my goal. That will make me successful.
Good luck to you, and we look forward to hearing more about how your doing.
    Best wishes,
    Corrina

  • Kristy Fassio

Kristin! You can do this! I started my journey at 283 pounds, and I’ve lost 117 pounds. You can do this!!

  • Luisa

Kristin, you are so brave to share your story and photos.  I have been bodyrocking for almost 2 years, but the last 4 months have been rocky for me – meaning I’ve been too many missed workouts and too much emotional eating.  I’ve gained some weight, which is a drag, and I’ve also lost strength.  Seeing your post made me determined to get back on track. follow Zuzana’s advice in her post to you – and know that we are all rooting for you!

  • Rubbus

Kristin- you can do it, but it’s going to take work and discipline.  I started doing Zuzana’s workouts and they have made me a lot stronger.  One other thing I started doing (computer tech) is not sitting at work anymore- I stand all day and have my computer up high.  The other big thing I did is start tracking my calorie intake on a free website.  Since I started doing that I really learned how many calories are in things and can avoid the high-cal foods.  (potatoes, breads, candy, etc)  I used loseit.com, but Lance Armstrong’s site livestrong.com has one too.

You can do it!  We all look forward to your “after” pics!  :)

  • http://www.youasamachine.com You As A Machine

One more thing just came to mind regarding the equipment.  Think of each piece of equipment as something you have to earn first.  Like how in Martial Arts you have to earn a belt before you can continue learning the next level. It’s when we work hard for something and truly earn the rewards, that is when we make lasting changes.

See, you’re still on my mind…I had to stop my house cleaning to write this!

Must have taken some amazing guts to seek out help at all. You’re a brave woman! And I wish you all the good luck and wellfairing on your new journey in life! Breathe in, a new step is about to be taken. :)

Yoga sutra 1.14, in Sanskrit. It says something like “In order for practice to be grounded in the earth, it must be done consistently, for a long period of time, with devotion.” This is a huge inspiration for me. Maybe it will be for you as well.

  • Lauren Thomas

GO ON KRISTIN! You’ve taken a fabulous step – the BodyRocker community is the best support network you can find. My hubby told me I had definition on my stomach today, something I’ve never had before! I have Zuz to thank for that. xx

Hey Kristin, really pleased you’ve started this life-change, and as people have said, just keep a positive attitude! If you don’t lose weight for a week or 2 then don’t worry! If it feels like a real struggle, then just keep going. It’s tough, but the time will fly by and every day you’ll be getting fitter, healthier, stronger, and hopefully then you can have children and have the life you want :)
Please do keep us up to date with your progress :)

    CONGRATULATIONS IN YOUR ACHIEVEMENT

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_CYNSPCVAFE6IVMPGF7FFYISPGM Julie Henthorn

    Hi Kristin,

First of all CONGRATULATIONS! You have taken the first step in your weight loss journey by coming here. The best thing about the Body Rock community is that there is a great network of support, love and encouragement. Zuzana doesn’t accept anything else and that is what makes it so awesome. I am 27 and currently at 214 pounds so I share your feelings as far as the aches and pains as well as difficulty with the exercises.

First and foremost you can find other items to use if you don’t have the equipment. I use my cell phone since it has a timer, I also use a gym bag full of rocks for a sandbag (although it is not extremely heavy) and 2 chairs for a dip station.

The best thing to do is start somewhere and once your first workout is complete, trust me you will feel so accomplished! A huge thanks to Zuzana also for the beginer variations, without them I don’t think I could have made it through the workouts. I do the workouts in my bedroom and one thing that has been a life saver is that I have a poster bed, so I can use the posts for support during my squats. Little by little you will progress and before you know it you will be able to do more and more. Keep a journal for yourself to write down your scores during the workouts as well as what you are eating. Its a great way to see your own progress. Zuzana has tons of diet challenges and tips to help with eating as well.

Again, congratulations. We will be cheering you on all the way!

  • http://mostlyquestions.wordpress.com Bernard Shuford

You can do this.  You’ve already inspired me.  Thank you.

  • Camilarivera1

Hey Kristin! Welcome to our lil community! You don’t need the timer, here’s an online stopwatch for time challenges: http://www.online-stopwatch.com/
and timer for all other workouts: http://www.speedbagforum.com/timer

Good luck on your journey! You will soon be addicted to Bodyrock and working out and eating well will not be a chore, you will come to love it! You have all our support!

Hi Kristin!  You are such a beautiful & brave person.  Thank you for sharing part of yourself with us.  I won’t pretend to imagine what your life is like or what you feel like, but I am here to support your journey!  I’m excited to watch your progress & see your determination grow.  There are many modifications you can make if you don’t have the equipment.  People post great ideas here all the time.  Just give 100% of whatever you have in you right now.  If just trying is ALL YOU CAN DO — just try. Oh, & start TODAY.  Not tomorrow.  Not on Monday.  If you want to make changes make then NOW.  :)  Right this moment – whether it be changing your mindset, creating a healthier habit, or getting that workout in, our road is paved by the steps we make now, not later.  I’m sending positive vibes & love your way, so do it girl!

  • Tracey_WW

Hi Kristin!  You have definitely made the right step coming to this site to start your new lifestyle.  Once you start doing the workouts it is amazing to see just how much energy they give you.  And as Zuzana says, start with the easier variations and even they will make a huge difference.  Don’t let yourself get discouraged if you can’t do the full workout, just push as hard as YOU can and you’ll keep moving forward towards your goal.  Sending you loads of positive energy from Dubai!

  • Maria Sweden

    Welcome Kristin!

One day at a time. ;) You will get there. You are one day closer then yesterday. :) Surround yourself with positive people as support. You will always have the bodyrocker community. We are here for each other.

    hy there  Kristin
first of all welcome!!!! i think u are great just because u had the courage to take pictures and post them on internet….this is something that i never got the courage to do even if i thought about it but…..i was scared of what people are going to think about me.so …. i started to search for the first exercises that zuzana posted on her blog…..meaning that i started working my muscles in groups : first the shoulders, then the arms, legs, glutes, abs and so on, then i started with zuzana’s first interval training exercises, the ones she did when she was blonde :))))))) and little by little i gained streinght. i am not fit at all, i am struggling with my weight too, is very hard, and i know what it means to have a job like yours because mine includes 12 h on a chair and talking on the phone all day. i don’t have the dip station or the sandbag, but i got the gymboss and i have a drum ??? (a huge bottle of water of 10 litres) so i improvise…
i hope we can keep in touch and good luck to both of us hahhaha :))))))

  • VeggiMandi

Haha, yes I do too Shannon!

Kristin, you can do this, the first step is deciding you want to be healthier so you are definitely on your way. I have several family members that are where you are now and I hope they can one day be brave enough like you are to decide to change their lives. I want them to live long and healthy lives so we can have wonderful memories together. Even with no money or equipment you can follow along, just get up and start moving with Zuzka, Bodyrockers always suggest substitutes too, so if you don’t have something just ask. I look forward to following along with you and hopefully you can inspire some of my loved ones to take the first step like you already have.

You can do anything you put your mind too. I’ve struggled with weight and un-healthy body image most of my life.  This is a supportive place..I’m sure you see that from all the comments below :)  Making small steps with diet and exercise will work best, and if you need an accountability partner or someone to help motivate you on days you feel like giving up look no further then here.   It’s a lifestyle change so be ready for that.  Your going to feel so much better mentally and physically.  You got this girl!  Cheering you on all the way!

    Hi Kristin!

When I started body-rocking August of last year, I was 252 pounds. I usually don’t weight myself that much anymore, I decided to stop stressing about my weight because I know exercising at least 10 minutes a day will help along with a clean lifestyle diet. I weighed myself this morning and I am now 189.8 pounds. That is a 60.2 pound weight loss. My goal is to get down to my healthy goal weight of 130 pounds. I just wanted to let you know it is VERY possible to lose this weight, but it takes patience and dedication. :)

I also want to thank Zuzana and Freddy for BodyRock.tv, because I know I would not have been successful without them! :)

    Good luck, Kristin!

I am so excited for you, Kristin! This will be an incredible journey and you will have all the support you can handle here. You are so brave for taking control of your life. I know it has to be so overwhelming but you are not afraid! Never ever ever give up!
Oh and an idea for your sitting down at work situation- go convert your desk to a standing desk. A lot of office folks are doing this and getting great results. The magazine staff of Men’s Health all have standing desks. They might have some info on their website. Good luck!

Take it one day at a time Kristin! You can do this! Stay focused and most importantly STAY POSITIVE!

Thank you so much for sharing your story!!!!! I can absolutely relate. Last summer I found myself at 200 pounds. I have been working and working so hard and have gotten down into the 160′s. I still have a little under 40 pounds to go. I have just started doing some of the workouts on here. I am so proud of you for taking this step and believing in yourself enough to try, that is the biggest step to take. I will be cheering you on every step of the way.

    Hello Kristin,
Congratulations in giving your first step, which is the more difficult of all.  Now, that you have decided to do something to feel better and look better, I’m pretty sure that you can accomplish it.  I think you can’t be in a better place to have all the support that you need in your journey.  We are all here for you, to support you and to help you keeping inspired.  It can be hard at the beginning but don’t give up, ’cause BodyRockers don’t give up, and you are a BodyRocker now! Each day you will see it is gonna be kinda easier, so you just have to keep trying and giving your best on each routine.  Don’t worry for the equipment, you can do all the exercises with your own bodyweight, and it is a still great great workout!
    Wishing you the best,
    Elizabeth.

    Dear Kristin;
Kudo’s for taking the first step and putting yourself out there like you have.  You CAN do this, and yes the workouts are hard but you can work up to them.  Don’t get discouraged, you have picked a challenging program to follow and even bodyrockers that are in good physical condition find them difficult.  Here’s a tip, on days when you don’t feel like exercising or cannot follow the Bodyrock workout for whatever reason, set the timer on your ipod or watch, and do your 20 minutes of cardio (walk around your neighborhood, dance in your house, use an elliptical, it doesn’t matter as long as you are moving) and then do 20 minutes of abs, Zuzana has so many ab exercises, and before you know it you will be done and will feel great.  Don’t worry about not having the “energy”, it will find you once you start moving.  Also, if you know anyone who  is a trainer, have them take your body measurements.  Sometimes the scale doesn’t show progress, but the measuring tape will.  Best of luck , looking forward to seeing your postings!  God Bless, Michele P (Pers. Trainer, Group X Instructor)

Kristin YOU CAN DO THIS!! I am excited for you… I went from 247 – to 171 and am still working on it. Food intake is 80% of your success.  Every small meal should consist of a healthy carb, protein and fat. These workouts are so efficient and complete an challenging. HAVE FUN and I can’t wait to see your success.

There are many of us in your position. You are brave in posting your picture because you now what to be accountable for yourself.  I applaud you for that. Zuzana and Freddy always make beginner ideas as well and are always positive. I am older, teach spin but still do not have a fit body but my lungs and heart are good (i have cf). I modify what i need to (lunges kill my knees–i just don’t go all the way down) , do not have a dip station or bag but still get in some great moves from modifying. Keep positive and remember you didnt get this way over night and it wont come off over night. Good Luck and can not wait to see what the future Kirsten has to show us.

    Hi Kristen,
It takes a lot of courage and determination to post your story on BodyRockTv.  You DO have the support of all of us bodyrockers.
When it comes to equipment, I do not have anything either but I still get a tremendous workout without it.  As for the interval timer, I downloaded one onto my smartphone and it works like a charm!
Good luck and never get discourgaged!

    Hi Kristin!

Since you said that you can’t even do one lunge, I’m going to 10 after each workout in support of you…along with my burpee for Erin.  You will be able to do them in no time.  Just follow Zuzana’s variations for beginners and do what you can.  Any movement is better than none.  Welcome to our little community.  You got this!  :)

Welcome Kristin! I am impressed with your enthusiasm, hang on to that and you will see great changes.
I have a suggestion for you if you don’t have an interval timer.  If you have a smart phone you can download a High Intensity Interval Timer app.  I have one on my phone and use it for every workout.  For me this is the most important piece of equipment to have.  We are all here for you!

    Hi Kristin!
Welcome to the community! I’m already inspired just by your willingness to put yourself out there so completely and honestly. I’m totally looking forward to your updates and wish you the best of luck on your journey.

Also, I’m sure others have mentioned this, but there are many ways to get around the equipment issue when it comes to money. I made my sandbag out of an old shoulder bag filled with books. I also found a free interval timer online. I just set my computer up on the table near where I workout and it works perfectly. Here is the link:

You can do this.  You have already jumped in with both feet, stay in the game.  Give 100% consistently for a month and really watch the progressions.  Work hard, but be smart.  Try to include long walks, with the workouts here.   After a month, you will see so much progress that the path will be very very clear.  This is a lifestyle change; not something to do for a while and then stop when you reach your goal.  It is the best thing you have done, and will ever do, for yourself.  Congratulations.

I just wanted to add to Ani Ssa’s comment “a picture can say soooo much”
…. even if you don’t see any progress in regards to body image, pay attention to the expression on your face, your confidence and the feeling you get after a work out.  Even before I started showing any signs of body improvement, I felt much better about myself because I knew that even if you can’t see it, I put in the effort every day and work my butt off and soon enough I would look as good as I feel!

Hey kristen, welcome to body rockers, don’t get off track, becuase workouts are hard, I found them to be hard at first and even hurt my knees and ankles because they weren’t strong enough, my doc. Told me to do simple workouts to strengethen them to push my self. You don’t want to hurt yourself. And like that other lady said, don’t worry about adding extra weight just yet, my fiance made me a dip station at work, using pipe, which is explain on the bodyrocks website, and Zuzana use to use to chairs and a broom stick. And if u don’t have the money, u can find stuff around the house, I use my phone as a timer, which works well for me. And a fit ball that’s weights 10lbs 9.00 at walmart that comes in different weights. I know you can do it, keep your goal in your mind always. Things don’t happen over night, so don’t quit cause ur not happy with the results, I can say one thing for sure, you will start to feel stronger, and that alone will make you feel amazing. working out does become a blast. Just make it something you can’t see yourself not doing. I’m looking forward to seeing your blog and your accomplisments, and if u contiune and reach your goals may it take a month or a year or more, you will be an inspiration for many. I know u can do it, and u always keep reminding your self. Even if u have to write urself an encouraging note to self and post it infront of you so when ur feeling down, or feeling like a workout is to hard u want to quit, u can look up and see ur note to self and read it, to keep pushing. I wish u the best, I promise u soon enough you will be having tons of fun in your sweat, I know I do

    Hi Kristin,
At my heaviest I was 215lbs, and my lightest I was 150lbs. My healthiest, however, is at 168lbs. I wanted to throw those numbers at you so you could see that the number on the scale isn’t the final decider of your health. I can run better, lift more, and work out longer at 168 than I ever could at 150. And I’m technically 20lbs overweight. Go figure :)

Zuzana is so right about your diet. That’s the hardest bit to change, but it’s also one of the most important changes you’ll make. When I stopped drinking soda I lost 15 pounds. It was freaky. When money is tight I know it can be hard to eat healthy, but making a salad from scratch is actually less expensive than a lot of the prepackaged meals. I’m a huge fan of Trader Joe’s, only cause their frozen veggies are so affordable.

Like everyone’s saying, don’t stress about the equipment. I used an old kitchen timer for the longest time before getting an interval timer last month. If you like, I’d be happy to ship it to you. It’s a lil square guy that runs down or up depending on what time you set. I used it when I ran and wanted to keep track of how long I was running.

And to get started running, all you gotta do is move. I could run for maybe 30secs, then I’d have to walk 5 minutes to catch my breath. Rinse n Repeat! I would do this for 15 or 20 minutes at first, then slowly over the course of a year I managed to get to an hour of continuous running.

Then I fell off the wagon, gained 15 pounds, and had to start again. My cardio was shot (thank you asthma) and my muscles were lazy. I only lost 15, but it was 15 of the good muscle.

You CAN do this. It’s hard. It hurts. And it sucks when you’re heavy and your body hurts so so bad cause all you did was walk an extra mile. But keep walking, keep moving, and snack healthy and I promise you’ll see the results. We’re here for you every step of the way!

    hey kristin,

i guess the best way to start is how you did :) asking for help and being honest.
and i hope you will reach your goal
but its sad to read things like “i want to look good for the first time ever”
don`t be too harsh on yourself…who says your not good looking?

…i really dont want to ruin the fun…but…i think its not healthy to start bodyrocking if you weigh 250lbs…thats just too much pressure on your knees, ankles and all that…
(or at least thats what doctors in europe would tell you…)
loosing weight has more to do with diet anyway…
swimming and aqua aerobic/jogging that sort of stuff is a good way to become fit
    i hope i didnt upset anyone…

    good luck!

NEVER give up. Never make excuses on why you can not exercise, even if it is a Brisk walk. Your mind and body will adapt to the “I am going to exercise today” if it becomes a regular routine. You have a great Support group here but make sure every one is on board where you live. YOU CAN DO THIS;) I have faith in you you are a STRONG CONFIDENT WOMAN!

    Welcome Kristin!
I think it is truly amazing that you shared your story!! I found BodyRock only a couple of months ago, but I haven’t seen a better place for inspiration. We are all here for each other so don’t ever feel alone. This is going to be a long journey but don’t forget to celebrate your accomplishments, no matter how little. It helps you continue on. I found this list on here of some of the workouts using just your bodyweight that a fellow bodyrocker posted on one of the comments a while ago. I know there are many more out there, but they might help get you started until you are able to get all the equipment. There is a free online timer that I used online as well until I got the gymboss. You can set the intervals and use it as a regular timer. Here is the link for that and the list of workouts! Good luck!!

    Hi Kristin,

I just want to start by saying that  it is very brave of you to share your story. And I’m also very proud of you because you’ve taken the initiative to change your life. I’ve never been severely overweight but I have injuries from accidents that prevent me from working out a lot of the time and it is incredibly frustrating, painful and discouraging to not be able to move how I want because of pain. I can only say that it takes a lot of hard work and discipline but man is it worth it! I look forward to seeing your progress on and off the scale. Its going to be an incredible journey and rest assured that bodyrockers are here for you! This is an amazing community!

    Dear Kristin,

You have come to a great place and we are here to support you. You are so brave to share your story here and you have no idea how a rolemodel you can become to other people. I encourage you to write down everything you feel when following your journey. If you bump into obstacles, then we might be of help.

We have allot of very creative minds here, so for every question there will be a solution. You can do it Kristine and remember; it won’t be an easy road, but the reward is heavenly.

  • Vala

    Hello Kristin,
that’s a really brave start and it proves that there IS the power and strength you need inside you.
I don’t have a sandbag, ugi or dip station either. I use a simple backpack filled with rice as sandbag. Reverse Push Ups can be done lying underneath a solid table. Knee Raises can be substituted by Lying Leg Raises. As Ugi Ball I use a sleeping bag filled with packages of dried legumes or rice.
When I startet Bodyrock I couln’t do a single push up. Now I sometimes beat Zuzanas scores :) So, you probably will experience muscle soreness or struggle with excercises, but you will see progress very fast! I recommend starting a workout log and also a diet log.
Finally, be kind to yourself. Be supportive to yourself. Don’t beat yourself down. Try to not eat emotional, but rather think about what nutrients your body needs to perform better in your workouts.
I also recommend cutting down on grains and sugar. There are plenty of carbs in fresh fruit and vegetable already. Very helpful is also to plan your week ahead. Decide which days will be your rest days and which days will be your workout days. Maybe you can chose the workout you want to do already the night before, making it easy to start the next day. If you struggle with snacking a lot keep healthy food to grab in your fridge. Already cooked eggs, cottage cheese, grilled lean meat, carrots, cucumbers and other vegetables are good for this.
Don’t look at workout and healthy dieting as something you have to do, look at it at something you deserve. You are worth it to treat yourself well.
I’m looking forward to see your success :)

    Hi, Kristin!
First, I want to congratilate you for this brave stape you took, to send pictures and share your problem. :) And welcome to the community! A new bodyrocker! Yes!
As for my advice, I want to say you should start to work on self-awareness. To ask yourself how you feel, do you really want that another piece of chocolate or not. Like Zuzana said in one of the posts, you need to stop destracting yourself and start to focus. Do you know what you want in life? Do you know things that fullfill you? Do you lead a life or do you let others lead yours? Do you appreciate who you are and what you do or have accomplished? And most important – DO NOT take this site as another ‘fast solution’ to your problems. YOU are the one that is in charge of your decisions and thoughts, YOU master your hands, whether to eat food or to do push ups or hug someone, YOU decide wether you are going to think of yourself as a bad and worthless person or as someone who accomplished something in life (finished school etc.) and has many positive characteristics (for instance kindness, warmth etc.). You ARE beautiful and you don’t need to hide. What you need is to know that you are a leader of your life, that you know yourself and are proud of who you are. I will be the first to applaud you when you share these words with the community.
You have my support, best! :)

You can do this.  Just start slow and do what you can do at your max effort.  You will find as you continue to push yourself you will be able to do more and more.  It’s amazing.  Like Zuzka said, diet is a very important part of being healthy.  It’s going to take work, but all good things in life take work.  You can do this!

I wish more people are brave like you!!!!…..you go girl!!!

  • Sarah

You can do this!  I will be praying for strength for you to make it through the workouts and diet change.  One thing about diet that was really hard for me was to avoid carbs and sugar and such (my husband loves them) but once I changed my mindset to I can have them 2 days a week (2 cheat days) it became SO much easier because I didn’t feel like I was missing anything.   And, not only that but I’ve lost more weight since doing that!  Diet and exercise together make all the difference and also, a supportive community like you have here will help get you through!  We all believe in you!

I am SO impressed!  You are brave.  You have the type of bravery that will bring you success.  You found JUST the right community to support you.  I’m so excited for you!!  Please, keep up the posts here.

Way to go Kristin! I can already tell what a strong woman you are! Everything in your letter to Freddy and Zuzanna screamed how much you care. And i think if you care, nothng can stop you. Your determination is already infectious for me! Food is one thing i struggle with, but now, I’m going to do this along side you. I think you’re amazing

Hey, I wanna be part of your happy though difficult (I know) new journey too!!
Just please, promise me that you’ll NEVER give up, and register all your moments, this will be important to support others!
If you wish, I want to be your friend on facebook, I made some good friends there, one of them is called Flavia, a bodyrocker as well, I bet we could be very good friends…
Anyway, I’m very happy that you are here with us!!!
    Good luck

Kristen, everyone here at Bodyrock will support you! The first step to change is realising there is a problem and wanting to change it, so you are already on your way!
Don’t feel like you cant start because the workouts are too advanced. Zuzanna will always show you something easier, and if you cant do the easier variation, just make up something yourself! Take a movement youve leanred here that you know you CAN do put that in the place of it. I write out cards with the workouts on them so I dont need to be near the computer to do them. So if you use this method, just write in a simpler movement where the harder one went for when you do the workout. At least you are moving!
This is what I did at the start and now I am able to do about 90 per cent of the exercises. Also, I dont own any equipment, so when something is used I just substitute in a bodyweight exercise that works a similar part of the body, or improvise – the other day I made a ‘sandbag’ out of a reusable shopping bag filled with heavy folders!
What Zuzana said above about diet is really important. You can work out all day, but if you don’t change your diet you will only get so far. It is hard, but it is worth it. It doesnt have to be expensive either, if you put in the effort to cook everything from scratch it can actually be cheaper.
I was not very overweight when I started (maybe 30 pounds or so), but I was very out of shape and I also smoked 20-30 cigarettes a day. Now I’m much fitter and not smoking anymore and Bodyrock has pretty much changed my life. You can do it, it will be the best decision you’ve ever made and everyone here will have your back!

  • Vanessa

Be a  bodyrock is the best thing I did for my life and you will see that in the future aswell! Don’t give up girl, you will get it!!!!

    All the best for you!!!

Kristen, you have already taken a huge step to regaining your life and making healthy choices. Stick with it and modify as much as you need to. As the weight comes off, you will be pleasantly surprised at how much more you can do. Also, follow Zuzana’s and Freddy’s diet plan and you will see a drastic change in your body composition.

    YOU CAN DO THIS! ♥

  • Jessica_5677

All the best Kristin, I know you can do this!

  • http://www.facebook.com/jldodson Jessica Lynn Dodson

Hi Kristin!  Welcome!  You are so courageous for putting yourself out there like this.  You can absolutely do this and if ever you feel like you are straying, just reach out! The hardest part is getting over Brutus (the voice that says “stop, you’re tired”) and realizing this challenge is mostly mental.  Once you get there, you will start seeing results…and once you see those results, you will be addicted like the rest of us!  Chin up, and be strong.  We are all cheering you on.

  • http://aphrodiitee.deviantart.com/ Isidora

Congrats! you’ve just made a huge step joining this life journey.
I think that you should first start doing lots of cardio, walking alot and adding some jogging if you can,
and in between add some bodyweight exercises to perform to build strenght and resistance necessary to try these workouts.
And of course the main thing about loosing weight is your diet, try to eat as clean as you can, eating 5-6 times a day small portions of good nutrients, protein, veggies, fruits, whole carbs.
But aside all this you need a huge amount of perseverance and will, the results will not come quickly, but with patience and effort you will be able to transform into the best possible version of yourself.

    I wish you the best!

ok, i was going to add a burpee for you after erin’s, but then kathy said she’d do ten lunges, so i will do ten lunges, too.
just show up every day and do something, and follow zuzka’s advice, because she is the best. you will be amazed at what happens.
i will do ten lunges daily, and then i will look for your daily report ;)
    you will be amazed!!

  • http://twitter.com/karmalaluna Arika

Good luck Kristin! Every little bit counts: little changes in your diet, adding movement throughout your day,(like parking far away from where you work and walking to the office. Taking a walk on your lunch break. Don’t underestimate walking!) and beginning to workout even if it’s for five minutes at a time. Modify as much as you can and push through. Always remember that you’re stronger than you think you are not only physically but mentally!
    Welcome to bodyrocking!

    You’re very brave!

Ahahahh! And I thought I was the only who heard Zuzi’s voice in my head reading her post out.

And Kristin, dont you ever fret. If you ever need anything at all,
here’s the place to be. We’re all rallying right behind. I’m right behind you all the way!
    We bodyrockers love you!

  • http://twitter.com/karmalaluna Arika

Oh and I feel I should add one more thing…. at the beginning at anyone’s journey into becoming healthy they have setbacks. You will have days where you eat too much of the wrong things, days where you don’t workout because the motivation is not there…and that’s normal. You can not let the 1st, 2nd, 15th, or 100th setback convince you to quit. Don’t ever give up! That’s the most important thing. Don’t ever give up.

  • Anonymous

Well for starters you have decided to change to get healthier very publicly so you have a wonderful start and you can do this, as Zuzanna always says…or maybe I always say it and put words in her mouth, not really sure, you have to start somewhere and by deciding to change you’ve started now you just need to try, try the varations and try doing some of the exercises properly, even if you can only go a little of the ways down for your first few pushups its a start and you will get stonger as you go. As for the equipment I scrounged around my house for the sandbag and finally decided to use an old overnight bag from a luggage set I filled it with a 4 dollar 20LB bag of cat litter in a trash bag and it has worked well for me since last October with no problems…well except the time I left it out and my peed on it…just watch out for that. As for the dip station I want one bad but instead I bought a pull up bar for like 20 bucks and most of the dip station exercises can be modified for that, and the interval timer is only 20 dollars. I know when your budget is tight thats a lot but honestly the most important peice and if you can only afford one, buy that it is KEY. And you can do this, you have to try and you have to PUSH though everything that tells you to stop…except pain. But you really can do this and there is a whole community out there for you that believes in you. Just start somewhere and pay attention to the diet as well the best the best approach for me when I started was the 5 week diet challenge where you had to earn your carbs, meaning no workout no bread, pasta, nothing but veggies and lean meats. Read her diet posts and just try. All you can do at the end of the day is try as hard as you can. You can do this!

  • Jaraguadom

    Hi kristin:

Welcome to bodyrock! Just so you know you took a giant step by coming in here..and you are not alone! we are here for you every step:) Pls..just take into consideration that changes take time so don’t feel discouraged if you don’t see results as fast as “all of us” want for ourselves because then you would give up and i had been there and done that!:( As Zuz’s advice, start with her very begginers variations because the most important thing is to get started..you gonna start building up like the rest of us!..so, we gonna be you cheerleaders!:D..do this for yourself, be strong!…say to yourself “i worth it and i deserve to be healthy and happy!!” Go kristin!…Good luck in this journey!

  • Carolyn

    Hi Kristin,
you are fantasticaly brave and obvoiusly ready to do something about how you feel by putting this “out there”. I agree with Kathy (and everyone else really!) but if you can just do ONE of any particular exercise today, keep going and you will be able to do TWO soon, and just keep adding on! Its rough to start, but the feel-good sense of accomplishment is even better when you realize just how much healthier you are for all you work!!! Be proud and keep it up!

Whislt it’s good advice Isabelle, it’s not entirely accurate. My gym in Scotland has thelocal heart rehab unit attached to it and all the time you see morbidly obese people, some wheelchair bound, lifting weights, both at the machines and free weights, on the cardio machines and some work on the mats, relative to their size and fitness levels.

Judging by that Bodyrock HIIT are doable, it’s just a case of work at your own level, use the mods and maybe at first, there’ll be some moves or workouts that she can’t do at first, but they’ll come in time with perseverance,

The courage you have alone, shows you are going to rock this in a few months. This is going to pay off. definitely pay attention to your diet though. I had never had weight problems and I always did amateur sports but I am in the best shape of my life now that I have changed my diet plans. So it’s all I have to tell you I did not believe diet could make a huge difference for in shape people. But since it does, let alone people who need to lose wait. You actually want to lose weight it’s not you need it! And that’s great!

You have joined the most positive, uplifting community to help support you and share in your journey.. Hugs to you and welcome!!

This is it. This was your first step. You’ve made a statement to the world to change you, and every bodyrocker is going to be here. We’re going to be by your side the whole way through. Congratulating you on your accomplishments. Telling you to get up and get grooving every morning. This won’t be easy, but it WILL be worth it. Never give up <3 I actually know of a fellow blogger who went from 200+ and she's 160lbs now. If she can do it you can too! I just tried looking for her link but I can't find it. If I do I'll share it!

    Hi Kristin!

First of all CONTRATULATIONS!!! as many other BodyRockers said, you just took the first and most difficult step!!

I would like to share with you one phrase that has helped me a lot:

“Strength does not come from physical capacity.  It comes from an indomitable will”.

Try to remember this whenever you feel frustrated or dissapointed.  You have your body, two arms and two legs, so there are no excuses.  Little by little you will be improving your ability to do the exercises.

Regarding the diet, I´ve been struggling with weight my whole life as well.  What I have doing since february is the following:

-Zuzana´s advice:  Basically eat clean.  Most of your grocery shopping (70%) must come from the produce section.  Try to avoid everything that has preservatives, artificial colors, flavors, etc.
If you can´t pronounce what´s in it, don´t eat it.

-Use MyFitnessPal.  This is a calorie counter which helps me to track my calories.  Most of the times we don´t realize how much we are eating.  If you grab a chip between meals, we automatically don´t count it…and it counts!!  Im not saying you will be spending the rest of your life counting and writing down everything you eat, but at the beginning is very helpful since it “educates” you.  After a while, you will know just by looking and / or reading the ingredients if the food you are about to eat is good for you.  It also helped me to identify my eating patterns:  I realized I increase my food intake by almost 50% on weekends or special events.
When you create your account MFP will calculate the daily calorie amount for you based on your weight-loss goals and information.
MyFitnessPal is for free.  Go online (http://www.myfitnesspal.com/) create an account and read all the success stories about people just like you.  It will give you even more motivation.

-Get creative in the kitchen.  If you go on a diet and all you eat is simple salad and grilled chicken or fish you will be sick of it by the end of the 2º week.  You have to learn to cook (for life) healthier meals.  Here on BR Zuzana and other BodyRockers are continually sending really delicious and healthy recipes that can satisfy cravings and keep you lean.
I recently found the “Insanity Nutrition Guide”  which I found very very interesting.  It has many simple, healthy and delicious meals along with their nutrition facts, substitution lists and options if you want to add calories to a certain meal.  Here´s the link: (http://www.teamunify.com/cast/__doc__/Insanity%20Nutrition%20Guide.pdf)
(I hope Zuzana and the BodyRockers don´t mind :)

I wish you all the best, and I hope that you continue sharing your progress with us!!
And by the way, you´ve got pretty nice curves!!  The blessed hour-glass shape!!

    My dearest Kristin,
I am absolutely amazed at your desire to be healthy! Since I’ve joined the BodyRock community in Feb of this year, I have been more motivated to continuously work on changing the lifestyle of freely eating everything that looks great! And not wanting to work it off afterwards, let alone before indulging. Being on this site is going to allow you to not only participate in working out, but it also gives you ways to change your views on how you treat your body with what you put in it. It may seem far away and I am so excited to take this journey with you! If you stay dedicated and truly incorporate the diet plans and workouts into your schedule, I imagine Christmas this year is going to be absolutely great for you!!! Yes, that soon you can see results. Your message tells us BodyRockers that you came to the right place – knocking Brutus on his a$$ and taking control of your life!! Know this, whenever you feel like giving up or if the task at hand seems too hard to do alone, come here! There will always be someone on this site who will give you the words you need to hear that will get you going! I love you already and will be praying that we can help give you all the support you need to get to where you want to be physically!!

    Blessings!!

  • Lauramilnes

You can do it girl!! Everyone here is super supportive, and you are making yourself accountable by posting pictures and regular updates. As well all know, working out from home can be tough as many of us are lazy and procrastinate. But it really is 15 minutes a day, who can’t make time for that? Every time I do a workout I feel so proud of myself and only want to continue down that path. Go for it – we are rooting for you!!

  • Cbowe1

the hardest thing is getting started, congratulations!

I totally read this in her accent!

    Kristin,

You have taken a positive step forward.  Your strong and focused, keep the positive thoughts and release the negative.  Small steps lead to bigger steps, small advancements lead to greater achievements.  Take each workout not only as a challenge but as small step that will continue to lead you to the bigger steps.  We all start somewhere, it is the road we choose to go down that leads us to the place where we continue to learn and grow as a person.  Each day you will learn something positive about yourself as you complete each workout, take that knowledge and use it the next day to motivate you.  You are worth it, we are all worth it.

Best of luck on this fantastic journey :)
    Rene

Oh, Kristin. I think I can speak for all of us on here when I say how proud I am already of you! It’s a very brave thing to send in ‘before’ pictures for anyone, but I do think it can serve a a huge motivator to keep yourself on the right track. I will be looking forward to regular updates – can’t wait for the members section of the site to be up and running so I can keep up with your progress and make sure you’re staying motivated. Zuz is great at breaking things down – just remember that as long as you are working at YOUR maximum effort, you’re doing great things for your health and your body. Diet, of course, is key to quicker progress, but I find it helpful to stick to one ‘challenge’ at a time: Take in more water, cut out pop/chips/sugar, eat more veg, etc. For me, even making sure I have something on hand that is quick and easy (and healthy) so I can have something every three hours or less really helps AND kicks that metabolism up a bit more. I never go hungry. I wish you ALL THE BEST and I really hope you continue to keep us posted on a regular basis. Hugs from Canada.

    Kristin:
What an amazing first step you have taken!  You have come to the right group, I have never seen such a supportive and positive community as this one.  As you begin this journey, I want to remind you to take each day as it comes.  Each day is a new beginning, it does not matter what happened yesterday.  Focus on your efforts today and it will get easier.  I started my journey in a simliar space, at my heaviest I was 200 lbs.  I was disguised with myself and finally just knew that I had to make a change.  So, I got up and put one foot in front of the other and kept moving for 10 minutes.  It didn’t matter how fast I was going, what mattered was that I was moving.  That first week, 10 minutes felt like an eternity.  I was out of breath within the first few minutes and my knees hurt pretty much from the beginning, but I kept moving and before I knew it, I was running a mile without stopping!  This is a progressive journey, you will get stronger, your endurance will increase and you will feel sooooooo much better!  I am now at 147 lbs and have maintained it for almost 10 years.  You can do this and we are here for you!

  • BodyRocker_Bonnie

Kristin, I’m cheering for you from way up in Minnesota!   You are on your way, you are unstoppable, if you keep yourself A#1 on your own list.  Make the time for yourself everyday that you need to to eat right, exercise, and rest.  You are worth it.  Be good to yourself in whatever little special ways keep you going.  And hang with us here…there is unlimited support.  And its true what others have said…when you need a boost you can always find it here.  I will be happy to hear more from you as your continue in the start of your journey.  Rock your body, rock your life. BodyRock it!

I am so excited to see someone’s profile who is not just looking to tone up of just lose 20lbs of something. There are so many people in this world who really stuggle with really being over weight and your story is going to be so helpful for so many! I know there are so many people who look at this site and say they are too heavy to even get started but it really excites me to see people like you who don’t want to let any of that in your way! I know you can do this as long as you seak out the support of this amazing comunity and never beat yourself up about things you struggle with. Just remember that the things you have to work really hard for are always the best things in life. You WILL be in the best shape of your life and be really PROUD of your body if you stick with us and never give up on YOURSELF. <3

Kirsten one important thing to always keep in mind is not just the physical appearance of your body but how healthy you are making yourself just by watching your diet and being active every day. True beauty IS on the inside. By having a healthy body you will have a better quality of life. I applaud your bravery! You can do this. We are all behind you, cheering you on. I look forward to hearing about your progress.

Kristin, I admire your courage and determination.  My sister has struggled with her weight, but she opted for a Lap Band instead, and sadly because she was only approximately 50 lbs overweight!  I wish she would have done what you are doing, your sense of accomplishment will be worth all the work.  I have been doing this for about 6 weeks; the exercise, combined with the right diet, means that I am now no longer disgusted when I see myself naked in the mirror.  I’m not where I want to be, but THANK GOODNESS I am not where I used to be.  You can do it too, we are all rooting for you!

  • Thuff

You know what? Girl you may be totally down abput your body but you jave a really nice shape. I can see you, pounds lighter, looking absolutely gorgeous. You have the potential now make it yours girlfriend!

  • Tara B

you can SO do this!!! you’ve already taken a huge step…thank you so much for allowing us to share your journey with you.  by doing this, you will help so many people in addition to yourself! and about the equipment – yes it’s nice to have, but don’t let the lack of it stop you from achieving your goals; you can also do most things without it and/or improvise and make your own equivalent with things you already have in your house (backpack or duffle bag for a sandbag, etc.). the gymboss timer is super helpful, but if you are doing your workouts in your home near a computer with internet access, there are several *free* online interval timers you can use that will do the trick just as well in the meantime! :)

  • Julie

    Kristen,

I work at a call center too and I bodyrock. You go girl!! The first step to any change is to begin. It might all seem impossibly, but trust you me, you will get stronger. You will be able to not only do a ton of lunges but jump them too. About a year ago, I struggled with the stairs as well and oh man, I hated that. So guess what I did? I walked those stairs till it wasn’t a challenge no more, then I started running the stairs. Now I do interval sprints on them every break and lunch. I now hate sitting in the break room on any of my breaks. If I’m too tired physicly, I go outside and take a walk. Otherwise, I sprint stairs. To not get bored, I’ve also done squats, burpees, held plank, did push ups.  I feel fantastic!! Not only that but I’ve lost about 40 pounds. I definently could NOT jump a lunge back then, but now its not a problem. Just do as much as you can. Don’t quit and don’t stop!! Just take it literally one rep at a time. YOU CAN DO IT!!! :) I already know you will accomplish your goal. Focus on where your journey is taking you. Forget where your at. Eat healthy, use your breaks to move, exercise everytime you get, and you will see results way quicker then you think. Also, I would highly suggest planning your meals ahead so that your portion sizes are set and your meals are ready every 3 hours. At the beginning its very hard to transition from large quantities or foods that aren’t nutritious. If you have your food ready then you have zero room to slip up. You’ve got it all right there waiting for you. If you have to search for something, you might be tempted into eating something bad. And once you eat something bad you might be tempted to eat a ton of it since you slipped and feel guilty. I absolutely love body rocking. It makes me so happy. I love how I conquer my mind every time I start whining and saying oh, this is going to be so darn hard! Cause I got the mentality of “quit whining, start moving”! Nothing beats the feeling you get after completing a crazy workout that you thought was impossible. :) LOVE IT!

Embrace the pain and the light new you,
    Julie

  • Liliya

GO Kristin!! You can totally do it!! :) And even if you don’t have the equipment , it’s not a problem) the only must have among all of these though is the Gymboss) but it’s not that expensive and it will last for EVER!! So ROCK it, GIRL!! We’re with you :)

  • Amarilla

i’m in too!!  10 lunges for you Kathy and my (favourite part of the workout), a burpee for Erin.   Welcome to  Bodyrocking – its addictively good for you, and we’re here for you always. xxx

  • Suki

Good on you for having the courage and determination to put your photo up on the site, admit how you feel about yourself to the world and for taking the first step of action to changing and transforming your life! You are such an inspiration and I am so keen to see your progress over the weeks and months. Body rock tv has changed my life (and taught me a lot about fitness even though i was a trainer many years a go) and I know it will yours as well.

YAY Kristin you can do this!! you have already done the hardest part ( i believe), facing you problem and knowing and wanting to change. We are here for you, and it sounds like you sister will be able to keep you on track as well. I agree with Zuzana, diet is the huge part of this.  KEEP YOU HEAD UP… we we’ll get through this.

…and drink lots of green tea with your meals.  It has been proven to help curb the appetite.  I also ate lots of prewashed lettuce (in bags)  I go through about 1 bag (makes about 3 large salads) a day.  It costs me about $2.80 per day to eat one bag.  Combined with lean proteins and eating very little breads/muffins/pastries it has been the basis of my success.   You can do it!!!  BodyRock on!!! :)

OOH i for got to mention…. My all time favorite recipe book called Naturally Gourmet by Karen Houghton. Its a Vegan book, but i sub tufu for a little meat ( tried going vegan, hair and nails got brittle). I love this book because most recipe only has a few ingredients and you can prepare it 30 mins some takes less. But most of all the food i have made, is delicious!!!

Thanks for sharing your story with us, doing this shows that you are a very strong person who is not looking for a quick fix but who knows that there is work involved.

At times progress may not go as fast as you would hope but remember that a steady pass is the key to success because progress involves not only the body but also the mind.

Dorotka said: “Remember, that You should be the most important person for Yourself.”
I think of this often. I often want to remind people to think of themselves as their very own best friend. Seriously!  Go back to the Golden Rule.  Treat others the way you would want others to treat you.  So how about – Treat yourself with the kindness that we usually reserve for others?

It is NOT selfish to take care of yourself.  Funny how our society has led us to believe this.

I’m in the exact same boat as you are Kristin!! I’ll be your fitness buddy!!! I really will!! I don’t have many resources to get my diet in check either but I’m working on it. I have also stopped working out because I started a job and that was enough of one. I don’t have the job anymore so now I can plan on doing the workouts again. I have noticed that since I stopped working out, my body has gotten more lazy and less healthy in just a week of not working out!! Grr…. We can keep each other company as well. I don’t know how you would want to keep tabs on each other though but I would definitely want to be your fitness buddy to help you and myself through this. Let me know what you think!

Wow, go girl!!!!!!!  That is only for your courage, now gone go read your story.

    Dear Kristin!
Your problem with weight may seem so big, but there is one thing you should remember: there is only one person, who can change it or give it up – YOU! The good thing is, that you decided to change it. You have a long way to go, but you will never be alone. There are thousands of bodyrockers all over the world, who will support you and congratulate you to every pound you lose. Bodyrock.Tv changed my life as well, I went from 155lb to 125lb in just few months (I am 5.7 tall) and I am crossing my fingers for you, so you can feel as good as I do now.
    Best wishes

    Hi Kristin,

    Hi Kristin!
Thanks so much for sharing your story! Every new bodyrocker is always welcomed here, trust me, people here are so supportive and kind! It is never late to start taking care of your body and even if you won’t see results overnight (it is not gonna happen, just to be realistic), you will FEEL better soon. And visible results will come along with it. Just do not give up and do this for youself, nobody else can do that for you! And trust me, it is a great feeling when you notice changes and YOU are responsible for that :)
Do not be too hard on yourself and take it easier at the beginning, soon you will feel you can do much more. The diet  approach is also VERY important (I would say it is 50% exercising, 50% diet, but you may disagree), and it may take a while for you to figure out what works best for you. But I am sure there are a lot of people here who will be happy to help you on your journey! Keep us updated, I am sending all my support to you!
I guess from today on I will do one burpee for Erin and one burpee for Kristin! :) AND another two for Zuzana and Freddy for creating this amazing community!!!

lol it reminds me of when we were little kids and we didnt wanna eat lunch, my mom always grabbed a spoon, loaded it with meal and said: One more spoon for mommy, one more spoon for daddy, one more spoon for grandma, one more spoon for neighbour’s dog… hahaha, that way my plate was empty before I even knew it :D
So I am gonna do one burpee for Erin, one burpee for Kristin, one burpee for Chris, one burpee for Cali…. hahahahaaa :D

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1032746471 Lamya Layal Guellim

His Kristin! You definitely can do it!Like Zuzana said just watch your diet, start doing the working with the easier variations and you’ll lose weight!
As for the equipment, you can always find substitutes, I do the pull ups on a door, as for the sandbag, you can use a backpack full of books or cans that’s what I do ;). And to replace the dipstation you can use 2 chairs and a broomstick

Amazing comment Marla, I 100% agree!!! And I do that workout clothes thing too! :) I always put on my clothes, look in the mirror and say to myself: This pretty face doesn’t go well with this outfit, I need to get it more red and covered in sweat :D And then I do :D

  • Hanna

I completely agree about the equipment. I’ve been bodyrocking without Ugi ball, dip station or even skipping rope (flat with low ceiling and without garden :/ ) for several months and have seen good results nonetheless. There’re always alternative exercises, and sometimes the equipment can be substituted with selfmade constructions.
I think what’s most important for you, Kristin, at the moment: don’t overexert yourself! Your weight puts an immense strain on your bones and sinews, so give your body enough time to accustom itself to those new exercises, and make changes to your diet to lose weight more quickly. I’d say sandbags or anything which adds extra weight is taboo in the beginning. (That comes from a girl who has not been able to bodyrock properly for more than a months now because she overstrained her knee when hiking in the Alps with a heavy rucksack. So take my advice!)
Good luck with your project of getting in shape! If you need help and advice – we’re all here for you :)
    I’ll keep my fingers crossed!
    Hanna

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Romy-Wolters/100000861709577 Romy Wolters

The only equipment i would reccommend is the interval timer, for all exercises that require equipment you can change the exercise in something that doesn’t need equipment but targets the same area. I don’t have a dip station either for example, and when Zuzka does knee raises, i will do knee hugs on my exercise mat (i reccommend that aswell, because it’s hard to do it on the floor, and good shoes!)

I wish u all the best! I think it’s great that you joined our community and change your lifestyle to be a healthier person! You are a great inspiration to everyone who says “i cant do this, this is not for me”. Everyone can do this!! Just go for the easier beginner variations if an exercise is too hard, and you will get stronger, flexible, you will achieve more balance, agility and energy!

I will do an extra burpee for you aswell!!!

  • Hanna

Oh, and I forgot to add that for interval timer you can use free online offers. I use http://www.beach-fitness.com/tabata/ myself.
A last PS: Don’t get discouraged if there comes a time when you gain weight instead of losing any. As long as your shape goes into the right direction it’s ok. You’ll not only burn fat but also build up muscle, and muscle tissue is heavier than fat.

Well, actually all BodyRockers are :) I don’t doubt for a second that you’re going to learn and have fun on this journey to better health, in the meantime my advice to you will to be more mindful about your eating/ moving routine – little awareness and changes here and there will make a profound difference! Good luck and if unsure about anything, please ask any of us – we’re all desperate to offer help and support!

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Maria-Lanier/100000216811315 Maria Lanier

Hello Kristin. We are with you. YOU CAN DO THIS!!! Just focus to your goal, don’t be discourage, mind your food and always come back here to read. Being here in this site will REALLY help you keep motivated. Indeed, all our exercises moves here are hard but you can modify it or do your best. You are not oblige to follow exactly how Zuzana did every exercises. The most important is to keep yourself active regularly and watch your food… Stay away from bad food. If you notice yourself picking up some snack, ask yourself, ‘if I eat it, is this gonna help to my goal to lose this weight?’ Check our FOOD & DIET page here, that will help you alot. Good luck and welcome here, Kristin. We are SO excited to see your progress. :)

  • irreverend

Kristin: How courageous of you to ask for help like this! I am sure you will be encouraged if you stick with Zuzka’s plan, modifying however it is necessary for you. At 5’6″ I has my heaviest at 210. I got down to 145 13 years ago and have never been 210 again but just over a year ago, I found myself up around 175. I was fit but I let myself believe I could eat however I wanted as long as I stayed active and my body paid for my attitude. Now I am back just under 150 and looking pretty ripped which is thanks to Z.  I would encourage you to just do something every day. My first weight loss started with lots of stretching and dancing around the house where no one could see me. Doing these workouts- just do what you can, and keep a log. Funny thing about max effort is that since it changes, it sometimes feels like you aren’t making any progress but if you look back in a month’s time, you will see that your max effort gets you a lot more than it once did- it just doesn’t feel like it in the middle of the work out. Also, even though I named my weights above, try not to watch the scale. Really fit people tend to have a slightly high BMI because muscle weighs more than fat. Also, obsessing about it WILL NOT HELP. Measure yourself- but infrequently- once a week MAX but once a month if you can stand it so that you can just relax into the change. I have found Z’s diet approach super helpful but if food addiction is an issue (as it was for me) then you might consider Overeaters Anonymous who can help with a food abstinence plan and the 12 steps can help you to work through whatever drives you to eat (if that is an issue). Finally, I hear you on the lunges. At 38, even with my weight down my joints seem to need a lot more love than Z’s. I don’t squat as deep as her and I often do two back lunges rather than jump lunges. It all still works, as do other modifications when I don’t have the equipment. I also check this page regularly as it is highly motivating and inspiring. I have now come to think of burpees as a form of body prayer so when I am done my burpee for Erin I will do one for you too. We won’t all end up looking like Z but you can feel good about yourself. Be blessed!

  • Mary Lou

Hi Kristin! Congratulations! You have just gotten past the hardest part: deciding to do it. Things will only get easier from here on in as you start to see results, but that’s not to say that the journey is easy, it’s not, but that is what we Bodyrockers are here for! Support and encouragement, because we all need it at one point in time or another. Maria is right when she says watching your food is the most important thing, it really is 80% diet, 20% exercise. If you put junk in, you put junk on, your body can’t use it and it can’t get rid of it either, so it just stays there, taking up space. Sometimes it helps to understand WHY something is so bad for you so I’m posting a link at the bottom about sugar/fructose. This article totally changed the way I look at food, and once you get past 3-4 weeks of ‘eating clean’ you don’t even crave the bad stuff anymore. It’s amazing. Good luck and I can’t wait to see your first progress report!

Hi Kristin! You’re so brave, I really admire that you posted your pictures and that you want to change really badly.
I want to give you some advices:

1)Zuzka’s workouts can be modified and she gives easier variations.
2)The dipstation is not fundamental to do the workouts, actually I allways do some kind of exercise for abs (knee hugs, sit ups, bicicle abs, legs lift and toe touch) instead of exercises on the dipstation.
    3) There are a lot of bodyrocker that improvises a sandbag. My sandbag is a cheap sportsbag full of heavy  books, you can do the same ;)
    4) I also don’t have the interval timer, so I use this site http://www.online-stopwatch.com/. It has interval timer, stopwatch and countdown timer. It is really good to do bodyrock workouts.
    5) Your diet needs to support your workout, so try not to eat processed foods full of sugar, eat more vegetables, fish and skinny meat (turkey, chicken…). Eat 5 times each day and small portions. I usually do a lot of salads with different ingredients like: [lectuce, tomato, tuna, corn and mushrooms] or [lectuce, tomato, fusilli pasta (just a bit), boiled egg, carrots, light cheese]. I like to combine different ingredients: the more colourfull is your plate, the more nutrients it has.
    6) Find a buddy to support you. I think that your sister is the best buddy that you can have ;)

Well, I hope this is helpfull! Good luck!!! And post your progress, because it will motivate you and inspire other bodyrockers =)

  • Anonymous

Kristin, seeing your picture is what motivated me to click on it to read about it. I am in a similar boat to you…although everyone’s pictures are inspiring, they are not usually as dramatic as what I feel I need.

The way I started out on this site, instead of starting with the high intensity interval routines, I went back to the older routines that had set reps and sets. I thought this was a wise choice for me because I figured at first I would get more out of working on the form and getting the reps done rather than the high intensity of the intervals. Even now, I watch the video and decide if I’m going to do it as intervals or if I think I should step it back a bit and set a number of reps instead. Just always make sure that you warm up before a workout and stretch afterwards. :) Good luck and I hope to hear about and see your progress

  • Heather

That is what I did. The timer was first, then the dip station, pull up bar and skipping rope…
YOU CAN DO IT! Congratulations on a great start!

Good luck and remember we’re all here doing it with you!!

    Dear Kristin,

Welcome. You’ve taken the bravest first step simply by acknowledging and facing your challenge and asking for help. From what I’ve read in all the comments you already have plenty of support and great suggestions to get you started, so I’ll just keep mine brief. You can do this! You will do this! It won’t be easy by any means, but it will get more enjoyable as you stick to it. Be kind to yourself throughout, train hard and fuel your body with the proper nutrition. It takes a lot of will and discipline, but you have it in you; and trust that it is all worth it. I look forward to updates on your progress.

  • http://www.facebook.com/Sofia.B.LopezBilbao Sofia

Hi Kristin. I want to congratulate you for being so brave and determined to loose the weight. I can already see the difference from 279 lbs to 250, so i believe in you and that you can do it!

I had the same money problems when i started bodyrocking, and i’m still not rich so I also had to do the same and buying everything separately. I got the timer first, it was the cheapest and i think the essential thing for the workouts. Now i bought the dip station about a month ago, but before i got it i would change the exercises for things like rows (using weights which are much cheaper) for the reverse push ups or leg lifts on the floor for knee raises. In terms of the sandbag you can just use a bag with any kind of weight (rice, flour, books, anything) and in terms of the ugi ball, if you’re a beginner, chances are you might not need it for most of the balance exercises yet. I still don’t find i could add that extra challenge, and you can replace the weight with any other weight that is challenging enough for you.

I know that you can lose the weight because it seems like you’ve hit that point of no return, that you see that you need to take control. Also remember that we’re always here to support you through this journey. Just give it your best on your workouts and changes to your diet. I can’t wait to see more updates!!

I think it’s wonderful that you were brave enough to ask them to post this. I think we were all like you at some point, just at various stages in body size. I know when I first saw the workouts I thought they looked easy; then I tried the one legged squat and found out otherwise. But I had been doing the Tracy Anderson method for a couple weeks and I just wasn’t feeling any results. So one day I just started. I didn’t have any equipment, so I did the body weight exercises. I was shocked at how weak I was. I could barely do push ups from my knees. But I did the beginner modifications and stuck with it and now I’m amazed at the strength I’ve built up. It just takes time and patience. Especially the patience; you have to be patient with your body. My mom is overweight and she started doing these workouts, but she gave up after a week because she was too angry with herself for having to modify everything. But you can do this!  And as your body changes you’ll find yourself wanting to work out and wanting to eat well to support your training. Just do not give up. Many of us are learning every day that just about every obstacle that could get in your way to bring you down and make you want to stop will get in your way. This community is a wonderful place to find the support to keep going. Just stay positive, be patient with yourself and stick with it! I really look forward to hearing about your progress.

You are killin’ me. Your bravery to snap those photos of yourself and say “help me help myself” I’m teary eyed, seriously.

Please never think of yourself as gross. It’s like saying “I’m a loser because my place is a mess” – which mine usually is. You aren’t bad, ugly, gross, any of those bad things you might say to yourself.

You are beautiful, inspiring, motivated, young, willing, BRAVE, unique and special. I’m routing for you, I bet we all are.

Try hard, but most of all be kind to yourself along the journey! Never get discouraged. Hear yourself out if you don’t accomplish what you thought you might. Encourage and nurture yourself, we’ll be here for the back up vocals. In that you can trust.

    Dear Kristin,

I realize in this sea of posts, you may not see this, but I feel like I had to send my voice out into the waves nonetheless.  I just wanted to say thank you for posting your story, as I feel like it has inspired me, more than I will be able to inspire you.   The hope and courage you have shown is extraordinary, and I believe it is the first step in creating tangible change. The emotional issues, the struggles with eating, and the difficulties viewing our bodies  that all women experience is universal. I totally empathize with the feeling where you have lost control over your body, and your lifestyle, and I know how easy it is to just sink deeper into apathy, but you have taken the first step to change, moreso, I think Bodyrock is a great place to start.  Bodyrock gave me the ability to feel like I have control over my body, my mind, and by extension my life– and that empowerment is addictive. Trust me, once you get that high of being able to do your first burpee, and can see yourself as a strong individual– the weight  will be replaced with confidence.

I also strongly encourage if possible to get involved with weight training, as it is something that changed my life. I went from having absolutely no muscle, and the doctor telling me that I need to get my life in check,  to being able to squat 200 pounds. The fantastic feeling of agency and power, and being able to view yourself as a strong woman is just awesome.

When I started doing bodyrock and weight training, I couldn’t skip, I couldn’t do a push up from my knees, but I had  the courage to keep going, and all of a sudden I could not only do push ups from my knees, but I could pound out 10 real ones in a row.

Keep your courage, find something that pushes you ( personally I like focusing on the male hegemony, but to each their own) and kick some butt!

    Hi Kristin,

Everyone has written such wonderful things for you!  I agree with all of them.  When I first started doing these workouts, I didn’t use any equipment, or I would substitute with dumbbells (which I still do sometimes).  Sometimes the thought of getting ready to go to the gym makes me not want to go.  These workouts are so short & modifiable that my excuses always lose.  If I don’t want to haul my dip station or ball to the gym (where the weights are…I don’t have a sandbag yet), I can do one of the bodyweight only ones barefoot at home.  Can’t jump rope (my downstairs neighbor would hate me)?  Do mountain climbers or kick ups.  If you don’t want to have to come up with substitutions for equipment, there are plenty of bodyweight only workouts on the site, especially from 2009.  They are all very challenging.  I have a file on my computer with a table of them (which prints in little 3×5 inch tables…perfect for my workout log) including the workout name/date, descriptions of the moves, & space for writing scores.  I would be happy to share if you want a copy.  Here are some of my favorite bodyweight only workouts:

Do not worry if you don’t have a dip station or other goodies.  They are not necessary and many of us don’t have them.  Back when Zuzka was in Spain I think she only had an exercise mat and she had some fabulous workouts there that were pure bodyweight.
Given that a lot of exercises give you pain from your weight perhaps you could make a commitment every day to just stand more and walk around when you are on the phone.  All movement is good and brings you closer to your goal.  I believe every day consistency is the key so that it becomes ingrained and your body starts to adjust to and crave this movement.
That and portion control might bring your weight down to where exercise doesn’t cause pain.
Congratulations on your brave commitment and please keep us posted on your success and failures (which we all have).  The trick is to just have more successes than failures and never give up!

    Kristin,

Congratulations on being brave to send in your photos and to ask for help to become healthier. I briefly skimmed the comments so I’m not sure if anyone has mentioned this…Make sure to TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF EMOTIONALLY AND SPIRITUALLY while you strive to take care of yourself physically. If you have insurance, perhaps it would cover some therapy to help you uncover your need to overeat? (I am assuming that you have gained weight from overeating.)

There are also a lot of good books out there that might help (check your local library.) One of my personal favorites is “Breaking Free From Compulsive Eating” by Geneen Roth. “It’s Not About Food” by Carol Emery Normandi and Laurelee Roark is also a great book.

I would also suggest that perhaps you start with easier activities like walking to build up your cardio endurance before attempting some of the Body Rock workouts. Perhaps you could walk and then try to do some modified reps such as pushups from your knees. I imagine since your sister is a Body Rocker, she would be able to offer you some ideas. I am not a personal trainer or anything close to that but it seems like trying to do the Body Rock workouts right off the bat, without some cardiovascular base could be dangerous.

I hope you will find the support you need here at Body Rock and I also hope your sister and family can be supportive as you embark on a journey to become healthier, both emotionally and physically.

  • Anastasia

    Dear Kristin,

Please beautiful lady do not be so harsh with yourself. You are a creature of the universe, no less than the stars or the trees and you to deserve to be here!!

First let me start by saying welcome to this great, fantastic, supportive, inspirational and this list is loooong site! Built by 2 and watched and admired by many, millions of many I am sure lol.

Second, don’t worry about what you don’t have. You have mobility and that is your biggest have so like the rest of us here, we too started with only our body weight. Zuzana and Freddy are the BEST at explaining how to modify and adapt these exercises for beginners and those of us who have started like you and worked our way up to more. I could not do a single push up when I started here now I can any exercise Zuzka  can and with proper push ups! So be sure to strive for your achievements and you will get there!

Third and most important…have you not bothered to notice the great abs that you have??!!!! ok granted they may not be exactly how you want them right now, however, please have a good look and see what I see the basis for some great abs and after about 90 days you will see some difference and prior to that you will feel the difference. I felt things change long before I saw them and they do not come over nite so please get that notion out of your head now!! Remember to write down ALL your workouts and its always great to go back and reset a score or two or three or lol you get it! And be sure to take notice of the difference in your strength as well…giggling it is am amazing feeling getting stronger!

Please do keep us BodyRockers posted and know that we are in your corner too!! Start by taking the first step. The only failure is not trying and I always tell my sons if at first you don’t succeed, redefine success!!!

    Good luck!!!

    BodyRocker Anastasia

Kristin…I applaud your courage to change!#1 hardest thing to do is decide to change,#2 is sticking to it,everything else will work itself out.I don’t have an equipment either but I still do the exercises, not everyday as I also do a lot of walking/hiking and go to the gym but anyways as long as you stick to it and change your diet you will see amazing results!.Remember to make it fun and don’t even think about the scale……just keep at it and one day you will be surprised.I have no doubt in my mind that you wil succseed…greetings from Van.BC

GREAT tips!!  I’m so glad you put #1 where it is – being kind to yourself and loving yourself is SO important to success in this journey (and life in general).  Feeling like you DESERVE results and success is much better motivation than guilt.  If you find it hard to think the way these tips suggest, don’t fret.  Keep working and your mindset will change for the better.  The positivity comes with the experience :)

  • Mmghia

Im so excited for you Kristin embarking on this great adventure! Slow and steady wins the race. I’m looking forward to seeing your progress. God Bless

  • http://www.makavelina.webnode.cz Nina_CZ

With all the seriousness, I do not believe in god and praying, but I do believe in a power of a though and I DO believe she feels all the energy we send to her. She is such a strong person in my opinion, and I too hope she is doing well and she will soon be okay!

  • Anonymous

Janet you’re 100% right. It’s the small changes that add up, just like the not so good choices add up.

Kirsten we ALL cheat, and have days where we are feeling lazy or eat too much. even Zuzana and Freddy. Like Janet said, cheat less, staying on course more and you WILL succeed.

Fitting in those seemingly small things like walking around when you’re on the phone or walking around the block after ever meal, parking your car six blocks from work and forcing yourself to walk – not instant differences, but over time you’ll be surprised.

  • NU-nu Nour

    hi Kristin,
we all support you and i believe that it is very possible for you to get in the best shape of your life ever with bodyrocking :) wish you all health and happiness :)

    Kristen,

My first thought is a compliment, you are one of the bravest woman I know, and I admire you.  I know you’re going to be an inspiration for so many men and women as you progress on your journey.  Like Zuzana said, you need to adopt positive mantras…start watching out for those negative thoughts and nix them as soon as you hear them, replace them with your mantras.  Take it 1 day at a time, doing what you can in the workouts.  After time you’ll notice strength and progress.  You seem to have a supportive family and with this community have found yourself even more support.  Let your journey begin!

  • lisac

You can do it!!!  I wish you the best in your journey – remember to have fun while doing it and then it will stick.  Maybe you can share where you live then other local bodyrockers and you can get together in person for even more inspiration.  Just a thought.

  • Kristin

Kristin, thanks so much for sharing your story with everyone! You might also like joining a community like DailySpark. It’s a great online community of people who share their weight-loss goals, give each other support, and share tips/tricks.

  • alteredstory

Kristin, asking for help is hard, and takes a lot of courage – that shows you’ve got what it takes.

Speaking as someone who has started this journey overweight with bad knees (too much time running down mountains), it’s not easy, but the results are well worth the effort.

Keep coming back here for support – you never have to do things like this alone!

One tip that’s helped me immeasurably – focus on the things you’re proud of, more than the things you want to fix/get rid of. Use THOSE to motivate you – it makes the process a lot more fun and uplifting!

  • Andrea

you can do this gurl!!! I have faith in you ;)
All you have to do is believe and really set your mind to it,
remember you are what you think.Envision yourself with that perfect body,
smiling somewhere you love being, like on a beach or something.
But don’t think just because you think you do not have that perfect body that you can’t be happy, be happy in the process of it, it makes life a whole lot funner and way easier. Keep yourself in the present and don’t daydream about the past or future just be in the now and be happy. I think you can do it!!!
And have a good mantra like what Zuzana said this can help wonders as well.

Best of luck girl and don’t feel bad about anything, you can always perfect weight TRUST ME!! ;D
    You got this,
    Andrea

  • Laurenl

    Hi there Kristin:)

Thank you for sharing your story, it is very brave and you have certainly chosen the right place to look for support!  This entire community feels like one amazing close friend and I look forward to the workouts and talks every day.  I have been part of the bodyrock community for over a year and a half now and feel so much better about myself and my life since I started here.

That being said, I have been thinking about you and trying to come up with one piece of advice that I think helps me the most.  I decided it is the ability to forgive myself (this took me a long time to be able to do).  This is amazingly huge and such a help when you can do it.  Achieving our dream fitness and diet levels is the kind of goal that takes time, patience, and a lot of falling down and getting back up again.  When you fall, be your own best friend.  Treat yourself the way you would help a friend in this situation- kindly, not harshly.  Forgive yourself, comfort yourself with love, and continue on your journey to health and fitness.  I personally learned this from Zuzska and it has changed my life.  Good luck and we are here for you!

    Sincerely,

    Lauren

P.S. I tried to find the video where Zuzska says it because it sounds best from her but I couldn’t- I’ll post it if I do find it:)

    Hey Kristen,
Welcome!  You have certainly picked the right pace to start! All of here are supportive, welcoming and here for each other! The best part of it is….its world wide! Someone is always here to chat.
Thank you for being so brave and posting at the start of your journey. There are lots of great before and after stories here for you to read and get inspiration from but I really feel your will be amazing. It will be real time for starters. I hope you can find time to regularly updates us all on here how you are finding things and showing us your progress.
Zuzanas right, she always is, a lot for it will come from what you eat. You may find at present that you crave foods high in hydrogenated fats and definately high in sugars. One of the reasons being that your metabolism needs a kick start and these workouts certainly give you that. You’ll find also that as your training progresses your body will start to crave foods it really needs to sustain a general state of wellbeing as well as replenishing and repairing itself.

You’re going to feel and sees so many benefits but remember this wont happen overnight. Be patient, the results will come just stick at it!

I know and all the other Bodyrockers know you can do this, you’re going to feel and look fabulous ready to start your new life as the fab new you, planning for your family too!

Im so excited for you, it remind me of when I started rocking my body….ITS GREAT!

Check out Zuzanas warm ups to, some good tips on focussing your mind as well as your body.

Good luck, please keep us posted.
Much love and respect to you lady

    hey kristen,
great way to start, and brave too.  your head is thinking just right…your body will follow.
you don’t need to buy any equipment, just be creative, and don’t worry about having perfect
    equipment…you are not alone there!

  • Brittanyverner

    Hey Kristin,

When you realize that you have put on a lot of weight in a short period of time it can seem really daunting to get it back off. I gained 12 pounds between december and march last year and then one day I looked in the mirror and was like “holy crap! When did that happen?” This site definitely helped me get back on track with my diet and exercise. Within a month and a half I had lost 7 pounds and gained lots of strength and health back.
One suggestion that I would make to you is on top of bodyrocking and dieting is to make sure that you take the stairs as much as your body allows and take frequent bathroom breaks at work so that you are walking and using your muscles throughout the day. Even walking around for 5 minutes every hour does so much to improve your health. I also started going into the handicap stalls in the bathroom so that I could do 20 squats in private and not at my desk where everyone would look at me. Now my boyfriend tells me all the time about how hard as a rock my butt is. :p
There was also a one video where Zuzana talks about getting an exercise buddy. You said your favorite sister is really fit well you should ask her to workout with you to help push you and motivate you! Hope this helps! Best of luck to you and you have my support. :)

  • Anonymous

I’m so proud of you for making the decision to improve your health, Kristin! (I’m ALSO proud of you for waiting to have kids until it’s best for them and you; not enough people try to do that)

You’ll definitely find support here from everybody, as you can see.

I also don’t own any equipment that Zuzana uses, so usually I’ll just do a modified version if possible, or just substitute in another exercise completely. And as I’ve seen other people say; I just used my smart phone for an interval timer before I bought the gymboss. You can also use regular phone clocks if they have a stopwatch feature; kind of annoying to keep an eye on those ticking seconds, but it works well enough.

Good luck, I can’t wait until you start posting results!

  • Anonymous

This is on the way. We are just a few short weeks from introducing individual profiles, the ability to follow each other and member blogs so that you guys can share your stories.

  • Tish

Good luck Kristin…..you will get a lot of support from bodyrockers.

  • Angela

I saw that you mentioned you work in sales and are sitting down all day, maybe buying a balance ball to replace your regular chair. You will burn more calories just sitting down becuase you will be using your core muscles to keep balance! Something like this could be an idea: http://www.amazon.com/Gaiam-Balance-Ball-Chair-Black/dp/B0007VB4NE/ref=sr_1_16?ie=UTF8&qid=1317068058&sr=8-16 this even has a back support and wheels for easier movement!

This could be a first step in helping slash calories during the day with ‘minimal’ effort.

    Best of luck!!
    ~Angela

  • Shellyrgarcia

I think its awesome for you to be so vulnerable and to share it with all of us!  I think we all feel this way from time to time.  I am a disabled Army Vet, 36 years old.  I have nerve damage on my whole left side.  I stopped working out a year ago because I was discouraged, and my pain only got worse.  So, just remember, start out slow, before you know it you will have one week behind you…..then another, then a month….on and on…..it may hurt at first to work out, but I guarantee it will hurt worse to NOT work out……after a while your knees and everything else will feel better when the mucles in your legs grow and start taking over!  i have a terrible knee, but the stronger my muscles get the less it hurts, and I take glucosamine as well.

One last bit of advice that helps me is go to your local herbal vitamin market and speak to someone about all the good supplements out there that can help you, natural stuff that can soothe your knees and give you energy and help with digestion….so worth it…..I wouldn’t work out with out them! and a recovery drink to replace electrolytes…..you can do it!!!!!!!!

  • Giacintacrna

Kristin, push hard and do what you need to do!!  The fact that you reached out on this website is proof that you are mentally ready to get back who you are!!  You have reached the point of loving yourself again and now is your time to shine!  Zuzanna’s workouts kick ass!  and you can do it! Follow her instructions for beginners, push hard everyday and change your lifestyle and eating habits and the weight will fall off. And when you get discouraged, come back and ask for support like you are doing now!  As the weight falls off and you keep dropping sizes you will feel amazing about yourself!  Good luck and rock on!!

  • Nicole Tmy

I am a uni student and I’m not exactly on the rich end of things and at first I did find it hard without the equipment as I wanted to feel the full burn and benefits of the exercise but over time I learned how to make do with my own equipment. Example instead of a sandbag I used this free bag I got from a careers fair and filled it up with a tonne of my law textbooks and it’s a great alternative. Dip station I use two bar chairs and fake grass that my brother has to practice his putting skills on so I don’t slip. If i need to do a a reverse push up I use my study desk as it’s sturdy and it works!! I think its just trying to be creative with what you have around you at times as it’s certainly worked for me :)

And good luck Kristin!! :) wishing you well on your new journey with your body.

    Hello Kristin,

Whoot!  You’re on your way!  Eager to hear more updates!

  • http://kenjibankhead.posterous.com/ ashtromanius

    Kristin-

This is very courageous of you and congratulations. :) You can do this. But you must make a plan. Plan your weekly menu’s, plan when you will exercise, plan on how you will survive the next birthday party or BBQ. The other thing is… you must realize this process HAS to be slow. You can’t lose 100 by next month. Realize in the beginning you will lose a lot, but then it tapers off. The closer you get to your goal, the harder those pounds are to lose. And lastly, don’t be too hard on yourself because you had a donut on your break at work because you were stressed, tired and forgot to pack a snack. The very next minute you CAN start over.

As for exercise… I’d begin with walking because you’re right… you can’t do lunges, and you can’t get on the floor and do pushups… YET!!! The point is you need to move your body for as long and as hard as you can consistently. You can use cans of food as weights to simplify Zuzana’s even most simple variations… like a pushup you can lie on the floor and do chest presses instead of pushups from your knees. Zuzana has TONs of videos and exercises you can try out. Just be careful because hurting yourself will only set you back further. Good luck! We are all cheering you on!!!!

That is the way she named it. We have talked about it in the comments.

  • Avidovic24

    Dear Kristin,

First of all, I want to say I AM SO PROUD OF YOU. I do not claim to be a complete expert, however I have trained many heavier young people, and I can tell you right now that you will be successful, you only have to start at the correct point! I understand COMPLETELY the joint/back pains you were experiencing!!  I really suggest that you start with a program of BRISK/FAST walking (2-4 miles) EVERY NIGHT. AND swimming exercises if you can, every other day. It will make the weight come down to at least 200. Once you get to 200 you will feel the weight lifted off of your joints and can begin with doing some of the beginner exercises of Zuzana’s program. <3 Much Love, Andrea

  • Taryn

You can dooo it Kristin! I am just starting out with BodyRock as well… I’m not in fantastic or terrible shape, I’d say I’m average. I sometimes have some trouble staying motivated though. But I know we can both do it!
    Best of luck!!! :)

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=564639118 Kelly Jo Sparky Mazerolle

Kristin, please know that you can do ANYTHING if you want it bad enough! I promise you, I really do. You can do this. You go after that goal with everything you’ve got and I, for one, will be right beside you (if you want, I mean). You fight and you will win. I swear!!!

For the record, I am not just talking out of my bum here either. LOL. I say this because I have *REALLY* been there. Literally. I have been there. I am only 5ft 7in tall….. and Autumn 2009…. I weighed in at a
whopping 340 lbs. (Not a typo. I weighed three hundred and forty pounds.) My BMI was a phenomenal 53!!!! Today…. I weigh 148 lbs and my BMI is only 23.3. I did not have gastric bypass or any kind of surgery. I did not go on special diets. I did not go to the gym. I did not buy expensive exercise equipment. Nothing. And I have **lost** 192 lbs and
I am not even done yet!

Don’t dwell on what happened yesterday or the day before or how you got where you are right now. Instead, focus on today and what you can do to continue doing great things for yourself. You have already taken such a giant step to feeling great in so many ways. I know your excitement (and fear too) very well. I can’t even begin to tell you how proud and excited I am for you.

You are doing something absolutely incredible for yourself, your body, your health, your well being, all of it. I am so PROUD of you for taking these first steps! Wow! I can’t wait until you see your first bit of progress. It is going to be SO exciting and rejuvenating for you. I remember those experiences very well and they are emotionally overwhelming, motivating and energizing. You’ll overflow with pride and that will help to keep you motivated too. Every bit of progress is a fuel for you to keep pushing on. Those pants are getting pretty loose. Hmmm, I wonder how much more loose they will be in 2 weeks. Yayyy!!! Oh wow, I can exercise more this week than I did last week. What can I push for next week? Woohoooo. Oh man, I wish I could bottle the emotions and excitement that I went through and share them with you right now! LOL.

The first and most important part of starting out on this new adventure, is to build yourself an amazing support system. (You are well on your way with Body Rock(ers) standing right beside you, that’s for sure!) You go girl!!!!!

Good luck Kristin! We are all rooting for you.

    Hi Kristin,
I just wanted to offer a little bit of advice… When I first started on this website, I didn’t have any equipment either.  But I have found that there are a couple of substitutions… For one, if you have a smart phone you can download an interval timer app or there are a couple of websites that offer them online, if you workout by a computer.  Also I found out that a backpack works pretty good as a sandbag… That’s what me and my roommate used for a while until I bought one. Hope that helps a little bit.  Good luck, I’m rooting for you. :)

Hi, Kristin!  Like Sureya down there, I have been a silent lurker here on Bodyrock.tv until now.  I just want to tell you that I’m proud, even if I don’t know you, of what you are doing.  I tried photo evidence to push myself to workout before, and as soon as I saw myself, I deleted the picture.  You are a brave, bold woman, and you have taken a HUGE step in the right direction coming here.  I’ve been working out with Zuzana for a few months now, and I’ve noticed she always considers the beginners or those of us with mobility limitations.  This is an amazing way to get in shape.  Glad you’re here!

  • Miguel

    Dear
    Kristin,

    I hope
you get in shape real soon, I’ll think if you take it step by step and try to do
some workouts without forcing your body!  You will lose at least 2 kilograms a week! Try
to eat a lot of fish +/- four times a week, it’s very good for your skin,  and fish
has also less fat as meat.  Try to use soya products milk, yogurt etc..  instead
of regular milk products,  try to eat
superfoods they give you an energy boost with not eating much food.  And the hardest thing is to stay away from candy, ice-cream,
soda etc.. eat fruit instead.  I hope
your friends, family and all the other bodyrockers will keep you motivated. You
look like a nice person and you deserve to be happy and healthy, so
try to take good care of yourself, by eating healthy food, drink a lot of
water, take enough sleep and try to do workouts for 10 till 20 minutes  a day.
I have also started recently with doing workouts, after a period of ten years! I personally
like doing Pilates,  but it is still hard for me
to keep up with the girls!  The girls/women in
my class really keep me motivated!  Maybe because I am the only man in a class
of +/- 30 women god knows.  So try to find the
right workout that suits you and don’t give-up that’s the most important thing don’t give-up,

Hi i’m also a bodyrocker I’m 225 so i know how hard it is to work out at a heavy weight. The temptations of food and the lack of support from people. But I assure you that if you stick with it you’ll succeed. I was 247 at one point. This workouts help me alot. I hope you succeed and the rewards are worth your efforts. Never give up. ^__^

Hi Kristin I’m so proud of you. You are a huge inspiration!! You can do this. I was over weight too and I couldn’t do a lot of exercises Zuzi does, but now I can do a lot of them. I work out 5 days a week. My diet is healthy and my body is changing big time. Just one day at the time. Do what you can with every workout and you will get there. Don’t give up cos everyday you can lose weight and getting stronger. Keep it up! You can do it. We support you and really care for you. Love you xxx

    Dear Kristin,

I admire your courage to take the first step to overcome this obstacle.  At times, the hardest thing is to admit that something is wrong… and your first step has made many of us proud.  For all I know is your post has inspired me to work harder in order to achieve my goals~  Thank you.

Dear Kristin and also Dear Maria
I would like to join you girls, because I have the same problem as you Kristin. Btw, I think it’s great you posted here and asked for help. I neeed help too. I weigh 172 lbs, and i weighed 194 a year ago.
I lost some weight, but it doesn’t go further down. Nothing happens. I start a diet, start to workout and a few days or weeks later I get back to my old habits, hanging around the couch, watching tv, eatin unhealthy, fat-making things…
I would be so thankful if you or even someone else could help me too, too workout with me (even if it’s only online), maybe challenging me a bit.
If you guys or someone else likes to workout and diet with a swiss Girl, i’d be sooo happy and thankful!

    Lots of Love from Switzerland

    Fabienne
