Burpees & Recipes from San Diego

Hi BodyRockers,

Here is a video from my weekend trip to San Diego. I went there with my friend Radka to visit our friend  Kaja (that’s the bodyrocker girl who makes the best ginger bread ever). We had a lot of fun and besides going for a hike and doing a burpee in Chula vista we also managed to shoot 2 amazing recipes for you guys. Check out the video below if you are interested in Kaja’s signature Oatmeal and Stuffed Peppers recipes. I couldn’t resist to neither one of them ;)

Best,

Zuzka.

  • Micha79

You look happy Zuz :) And I definitely can’t wait to try both!

  • http://BodyRock.Tv Candace

I like to use honey (unpasteurized) or my homemade apple/pear sauce as a sweetner…not a fan of refined sugars as they cause an inflammatory response in your body…thumbs down…

  • Bodyrocker_Audra

Zuzka, I have never seen you this happy and giggly in a video before! It’s great to see you enjoying yourself and doing the things you love like cooking :) This made me smile and for that I thank you and won’t worry so much about your well-being ;) Thank you Radka and Kaja for making Zuzka happy once again =D. I can’t wait to try out these recipes!

  • http://BodyRock.Tv Candace

thumbs down to inflammation…not the recipes…they look really good and can’t wait to try the peppers!!

You look so happy Zuzka! It’s good to see you enjoy yourself. I feel the positive energy!! The label part was funny….hahaha. The recipes looks so good. I put a teaspoon of apple syrup in my oatmeal and I flavored with: grated apple, cinnamon and nutmeg. So good :) Yummie

  • Milaberton

I love the recipes, but what I loved the most was to see you happy and having fun! Brought a big smile to my face… :)

    You look wonderful Zuz!!

and NO, microwave is not “healthy”.  I just read that it kills about 90% of the anticancer substances of broccoli when it´s heated in the microwave :(  so I try to defrost everything @ room temp, and/or heat it in the stove.  Besides defrosting at room temp is more friendly with our planet :)

  • http://fefenockideneh8.tumblr.com/ Freida Nockideneh

So happy to see you again Zuzka! <3

  • Mmghia

You look and sound teriffic but I’m still missing you!!  Feel better.

    Microwaved Water will kill plants:
    http://www.execonn.com/sf/

So… I cannot imagine what microwaved food would do in my body… I stay away from it as good as I know and can.

  • Anonymous

    hahahaha…chenglish..hahahaha

  • GoustiFruit

Sorry but I’m 99% certain this is BS. Water is water, microwaves act by “shaking” the water molecules, it does not change it’s inner nature, it remains H2O, and it’s absolutely not modified in any way. Concerning more complex substances, like food, yes it “may” destroy some elements, but you could say the same goes for the old oven…

  • Ifka

I really like this video, Zuzka :) Just do not know why Kaja is so ashamed to be in the video with you – she looks really good :)

  • Glowmerida

    hey zuzka!

you look so happy in the last few videos!! that’s so great, to see you smile and laugh :)
and Kaja looks great, she should host a workout sometime ;)

I cook my oatmeal in soymilk (one with less sugar than the “normal” ones) and cook pieces of apples with it and a little bit of cinnamon. when it’s done I add some maple sirup and maybe some nuts. In fact I’m just eating it right now ;) (it’s 9 in the morning here)

I’m not afraid of microwaved food, although I really don’t use my microwave very often… of course it destroys some ingredients of the food, but so does any form of cooking

    have a nice day everybody!

  • tee

you know goustifruit, my son’s grade 7 class did an experiment with regular water out of the tap and microwaved water and all the plants watered with the microwaved water did die! all other factors remained the same.  I don’t know why this would happen either.  it might be because of micro organisms in the water died maybe.  I have heard not to use filtered water or distilled to water plants with, maybe same reason.

and no they did not use the water hot! lol

  • Lenka Slovakia

    Like 2 days ago i was thinking how to do stuffed paprika, thanks for great recept:}

  • Anonymous

Great to see you so relaxed.

I love stuffed pepper. My Mom makes them quite often and your recipe looks nearly the same. Yummy!

I do have a microwave and I use it now and then to heat food from yesterday. I never thought about it being not healthy. Now, I started researching the topic and am surprised that it kills nearly all the antioxidants. What I also don’t like about cooking in a microwave is the fact that it’s manly fastfood. I think a part of eating healthy is to appreciate where your food is coming from and that it takes time to prepare it.

But what I love about my microwave is the fact that it kills 99% of germs. So I put my cleaningtowles into it.

    Hi GoustiFruit,

You won’t change the minds of those who have problems with different forms of energy.   Should I mention the frequencies used in a Microwave oven are the same used in cel phones and that we are be bombarded by these waves all the time at a low energy levels.

    –Chris

  • tee

hi zuzka,  nice to see you so happy and having fun!  Kaja’s really nice looking, don’t know why she’s so shy!  beautiful kitchen as well!  thanks to her mom for cutting your onions, and being your sous chef!  kaja’s recipes sound really good too!

    charlie looked happy too!
I could tell that you were with czech friends as your accent was stronger in everything you said!  funny how that happens.  I start talking in accents when I am with people who have them even though I might not know a single word of their language! lol

    thanks so much!

  • Anonymous

    Hi Zuzka,

I’m very glad you had a good time.  I make variations on oatmeal and walnuts all the time.  I think I will try your friend’s variation when I get the frozen fruit.  I use honey when I want to sweeten the bowl…usually.

My Mom use to make stuffed peppers quite a lot when I was a child.  I sometimes cut the onions and other veggies for her.  And, seriously we need to teach you how to cut onions without tears! :-)

A nit…you could drop the to in: “I couldn’t resist to neither one of them” and the sentence would make more sense.

    My best,
    –Chris
PS This last Sunday I was at my local National Space Society meeting and we had my friend Tanya talk via Google+ about CTX images of Mars (she works at Malin Space Science Systems in San Diego).  What can I say  I’m a space geek!

  • lala

it’s as if i’m seeing a totally new zuzana.
YOu seem so happy, happier than i ever saw you in any other  videos.
I’d love to see other videos of you having such a nice time.

    NIce recipes .

  • GoustiFruit

You know what ? I will experiment it by myself. I have to know.
Whatever, it should not be a matter of micro organisms, the tap water we drink is usually free of them (here in France is because most of the time they add Chlorine to it, though not necessary).

  • GoustiFruit

That was a super nice video, it seems you girls had a lot of fun, and I had a lot of fun watching you.
You should do it more often.

  • Elena Ioan

Haha! You guys are great!! Looks like a delicious recepie!! We all have a “pepper moment” one day or another! :)

  • Peg

Zuzana, you MUST teach Charlie how to do BURPEES! that would be so awesome!!

I agree with Audra (below). You look very healthy and happy. This is good to see! You are obviously having a great time with friends (and I agree, it shows you have been speaking Czeck, because your English gets weaker, very cute.) The “Czenglish” cracked me up! I think it looks like this break/change has been good for you. I can’t wait to see more of you in the future.

Oh about the microwave… I used to think it was unhealthy, but after doing some reading, I realized that what destroys nutrients is HEAT. It doesn’t matter if you fry, boil, bake, or nuke it, it’s the heat that destroys antioxidants in fruits and veggies. So yes, thawing at room temperature and cooking only lightly is best. And to the person who made the comparison of microwaves to cell phones, I don’t stick my head inside my microwave while it is on. ;)

I LOVED these recipes!! Right up my alley. Please keep them coming! I love it that you did two recipes, like breakfast and dinner in one video. I LOVE FOOD. (Thank God for Bodyrock workouts!).

Thank you Zuzana for a fun video!

  • ۞ BodyRocker ♥ Beth ۞

    Those recipes looks amazing !!!
Can I use pomegrante instead of the berries? we just don’t have any fresh/frozen in our zone :)
WoW !!! Video recipes R MUCH better then the pictured ones :)My opinion about microwaving: there R some foods that might not go best w/ microwaving, but everythig if being wormed/melt in the microwave for under a minute won’t be caused for any significent damage.
Personally – I like to cook my egg whites (which I seperate from the yolks) in a covered cup & then I add the raw yolks (which R much beneficial eaten raw…) & it becomes kinda hot-&-cold together… so nice :)
I would reccomend it to anyone who’s on-the-go & don’t have time to fry his eggs. it’s a very comveniet way of cooking them & U can also save ‘em covered in the same cup for tommorow :)

    Happy to help ;D

    <3 BR Beth

  • GoustiFruit

    Hi Chris,
The fact is… I don’t have or use any cell phone, and I try to stay at some distance of the microwave when it’s on ;-) I can imagine that microwaving food could result in destroying some elements in it, or recombining some into something not healthy (as much as cooking some fats for too long can create cancerous substances). But the scientist in me would be very surprised if microwaving water had the results described here !

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_YRMLC7QLHYZ4Q3ZKCJOH2EZLMQ agnes

So good to see you giggling and chit-chatting! I’m really happy for you Zuzka!
My mother makes stuffed peppers pretty often, but sometimes she uses rice instead of quinoa (obviously your version is much healthy) and she spices up the tomato-sauce .

  • Anonymous

Yeah, Zuzka, I am so happy to see you so happy and smiling :))
thank you for this great recipe – i really have to try this out :) *yummy*

Zuzka, I think the same about the microwave .. i think it´s very unhealthy…it´s much more better to prepare the food with fresh and tasty ingredients!!! :)

I don’t use a microwave to ‘cook’ my food. I use it to heat up already cooked food or defrost food that I want to cook later. Don’t quote me but what I believe from a show I saw the food becomes warm because the water molecules in it are moving very fast. Food is cold when the molecules are slow or not moving at all. So all a microwave does is makes the water molecules move fast. I’m not sure how it does this, but I don’t find that offensive, because it’s not putting anything into the food to make it hot.

I completely disagree that the microwave is unhealthy.  There is a lot of junk science out there, and a lot of people who accept the results of studies not properly conducted.  There is a reason why there are medical journals, and why studies are only accepted several years after they have been conducted, and replicated several times by different scientists.  In response to your link:

    http://www.snopes.com/science/microwave/plants.asp

As described in the link you posted, the study was done for a 6th grade science class.  The results of the study could be skewed by a number of factors, including the ones described in the link above.  It is irresponsible to be scared of something without properly educating yourself.  Chris_L: everything gives off a small amount of radiation, even the human body.  There are acceptable amounts that are healthy.  All of this information is available to anyone taking, or who has taken general chemistry.

I love the Berry Cherry mix!  I always have it in my freezer.  Instead of putting sugar in my oatmeal, I usually eat it with fruit, which is naturally sweet.  For this recipe I would just use walnuts and the cherry mix sans brown sugar.  I try to cut my sugar intake in general because I have such a big sweet tooth and tend to get carried away… :)

Was happy to see Zuzanna in a whole video again. (instead just a quickie at the end of one), I’ve been looking at the older videos and I really like that she actually does the whole workout and u can do it right along with her instead of just little bits and pieces. Anyways, glad to see her happy and laughing again! ZUZKA, you are adorable!

  • Diana J

This is the loveliest picture of Zuzka I’ve ever seen, honestly, I think it is sooo sweet, somewhow it shows another side of her and Charlie looks very happy also. Nice to see you!!!

Zuzana, it is really great to actually SEE you enjoying yourself lately :) Since Freddy is gone, it seemed like he was enjoying himself a lot more, because he had more company like Sean and Jess, and seeing you with your friends and laughing and smiling is really nice :) Glad to see you are having a good time and not letting things get to you at home by yourself. :) These recipes look very good! Cant wait to try them, and the view from your hike looks AMAZING! :) Enjoy yourself Zuz, and do what makes you happy :) (it makes us happy too)

    Hi GoustiFruit,

I think you missed my point.  We live in a veritable sea of energy microwaves only being some of the frequencies you experience.  You suggest the key to the loss of vitamins  and other damage to food.  Over cooking which can be done with direct solar radiation or camel dung just as well as with a microwave oven.

I also doubt the water had any properties that would wilt a plant having used excess water heated via a microwave before to water perfectly healthy plants.  I prefer my science being peer reviewed and with more than one test and tester.  I would welcome any PDFs out of an actual science publication on the subject.

And to give some perspective here: I respect Zuzka’s views on the use of a Microwave in her kitchen just as I would for anyone.

    Anne,

Be aware that peppers can be very hot or very mild off the same plant.  You might ask the grocer  which pepper is good for stuffing and you could always go with the red or yellow bell pepper as they are always mild in my experience and taste great stuffed.

Suzana I worked with a woman who was a TCM (traditional Chinese Medicine) practitioner and acupuncturist. She used tongue diagnostic techniques. She said she could tell by peoples tongues when people had been using microwave prepared foods.

After she said that I’ve tried to cut back. Top of the stove method for reheating leaves things an even temperature. I’ve burned myself so many times with hot spots from nuked food.

The other thing: I read in Shape magazine – women who use Teflon or non-stick coated pans and pots had a higher incidence of early menopause (before age 46). The author said they couldn’t conclude if:- women with early menopause absorbed higher levels of perfluorooctanoic acid or the perfluorooctanoic acid caused the early menopause. Either way – those nice and easy to clean pots and pans are not so good for you. Even Health Canada has warnings about the coating –

    Hi Nancy_ajram7891,

Do you have any idea how much email Zuzka gets?  Neither do I.  :-)

You are asking a question that if you actually thought about it is silly.  Workouts are not gender specific.  There maybe exercises guys and girls feel uncomfortable doing, but guys and girls have been doing Bodyrocking since as long as I’ve been hanging around here with good results.

Zuzka is a busy girl so give her a break on replying to emails or comments.

    Midimidi!
It’s super easy. use a 1:1 ratio of pears to apples. I used in season Macintosh apples and in season ripe Bartlett pears.
Peal and cut apples (use a mechanical pealer and corer/slicer knife to save your hands)
Peal and cut pears (have to do these by hand…oi)
Heat a pot (amount of fruit determines size of pot) on medium heat.
    Add apples.
Add water as needed to keep apples from sticking to the bottom and burning.
Stir frequently while simmering until apple mixture is about 50% sauce, 50% solid apples. (the apples will naturally start to break down)
    Add Pears.
Continue to stir until mixture is mainly sauce. It’s okay to have some solid pieces still.
Add desired amount of vanilla extract (or vanilla bean…mmmm) and cinnamon. (this is optional)
Mix and let simmer a little more.
Use a hand mixture to make sure the mixture is smooth and velvety.
    Enjoy!

*The key is to keep stirring so it doesn’t burn and the fruit breaks down faster*

Thanks so much for sharing this recipe!!!  I can’t wait to try it!  I have been looking for ideas to use quinoa.  I am from Louisiana, USA, and we use rice to stuff peppers, but this is a great way to change it up and get the great health benefits of quinoa!  And it was wonderful to see you having so much fun in the kitchen!  I love exploring with foods and learning healthy and tasty ways to eat them! :)

  • Ieatcarbs

From an engineer, heat is “radiation.” There’s no other way to cook food except with radiation. All a microwave does is excite the particles together such that the friction between them warms the item. It’s not like you are exposing the food to nuclear radiation, which is what most people think of when you say “radiation.” Microwaves are just a type of radio waves at frequencies which can excite the molecules in food. Nothing sinister there.

Question to bodyrockers from Germany: where can I buy coconut oil?

just cooking the stuffed peppers and it smells sooooo good :-) Can’t wait. instead of meat I used tofu. Thank you for ur Inspiration. I have ur oatmeal version for breakfast so often. Mmmh. I love it with banana and cinnamon. Yummmm :-)

Yes, I agree, the microwave is not good for food.  Have you ever noticed that the food doesn’t taste as good when you microwave it as it does when you warm it other ways? That’s enough for me.  (:

The oatmeal looks delicious! I would only suggest one tweak: use ORGANIC berries, because berries happen to be the most highly contaminated crop when it comes to toxic pesticides (along with apples). Also, organic oats is a good idea, to ensure it is not genetically modified. I believe the brand you have in the video is organic – I have that one too. :)

As always, your body is incredible. Love the vids! You’re so cute.
