Girls On Top Workout

Hi BodyRockers,

Our Dad is retiring today after 45 years working for Pepsi-Co. He is the longest serving employee in the world next to the guy who first brought Pepsi to Soviet Russia and handed a bottle to Nikita Khrushchev. He put his heart into his work – often leaving for his truck at 4 a.m. and working 14 hour days. Sean and I were always so proud of his commitment and work ethic – and no matter how many hours he worked for the company he was always there to coach our sports teams or drive me to art lessons. My one wish is that he was as committed to his physical well being as he was to the company he worked for. Our dad gave up smoking in his early 20′s and is not a drinker. He played Hockey for years but gave that up when Sean started traveling with All-Star Hockey and then later Baseball. His diet was not a priority and after years of getting up and down out of his delivery truck his ankles bother him and he often walks with a bit of a limp. It always makes me wonder how someone whom I love so deeply and who is such an example of dedication, commitment and reliability somehow missed applying these same disciplines to the very basic task of looking after their own health and wellness. Some people will say that at 67 the body just starts to fall apart. That there is nothing that can be done about the years and the wear and tear of life. Despite this I am a firm believer that if you look after your body, your body will look after you. Countless studies have shown this to be true, and some researches have demonstrated that the human body has the capability of lasting 120 years. Why then do we accept that at 60 we are old and worn out? It is as much a thought and belief issue as a physical one. There are BodyRockers in their 60′s and 70′s. There are people who are in better shape at 60 then at 30. I believe it starts with a choice – when do we decide how long we are going to live? When do we willingly give up on our bodies? It’s a choice we can make or unmake at anytime. I hope my dad and all the other BodyRocker dads and moms out there choose to make the choice to Rock life to their personal best :)

Best,

Freddy

Thanks! I’m only 17 & I’m out in the country so I don’t have access to a gym with fancy equipment, I do a lot of dancing & actually have dvd called Cardio Funk. My tummy is slowly getting smaller, but I want a nice six pack for the summer :) I’m racing with my friends for a six pack & the deadline is the 21st of June & I was trying to add some stuff into my regular bodyrock & Zwow routine to kick but & score those abs :D

    Hi TessaVolk,

I think it would be possibly easier with Fred as his sons are close and he knows the benefits from them and his pass.

But I know what you are talking about as I have friends and family who struggle with weight and other health issues that exercise would help solve.  Yet they don’t make the life style changes needed.

I agree with the dip station first. It’s the hardest piece to substitute for. I love mine. Second, I think sandbag…even thought that can be easily swapped for dumbbells or other weights. Third, fitball. I have a dynamax accelerator. It is just like an UGi, but less expensive.

Day 1 of an overdue mini vacation: I woke up with a sore throat & stiff neck. Now I’m laying on a heating pad, waiting for my anti-inflammatory to kick in. I hope I can do a workout later! I think I’m going to make another batch of wheat/oil free banana bread later, too.

I did Hot Pants Wo today, twice.
I really have to motivate me today….because today it’s a such “Bad” day for me…
You know one of these days where you look your body in the mirror and everything is awfull for you to watch(always this belly wich defies you!!!)….any clothes make you beautifull, the hairs without form…
Well the day without shape, and you feel so awfull…
You just want to eat all what there are in the kitchen (non healthy of course)…
I don’t know why it is today….perhaps because I noticed that my body, my muscles don’t have any progress since a long time…perhaps hormones ??lol
Sorry to not be movitating today….tomorrow will be better I hope !!!!

Lisa, I don’t know if you have to accept your new body but your eye seems tired & sad….:(
I’m wrong perhaps ;) But for sure it should not be necessarily easy I think. Sometimes we have a picture in the head & the reality is not exactly the same.
I just hope your enjoy your new body my dear ;)
I was one of those who didn’t think that it was important to do this surgery(I really find you beautifull how you was), but it is a real personal choice that I didn’t criticize.
Me with 3 pregnancies I lost all :( I would like to have “news” but too expensive and there were too much cancer with them :( Of course they changed the prostheses, but I think that we all have a kind of risk we accept to have (those who smoke for exemple etc…)
Now you just should have to work your balance with them !!! hahahahaha !!!

I’m waiting for the Sean’s tattoo now !!!!

    Hi Freddy and Sean,

You two need to help your dad stay activily.  Retirement isn’t a time to sit around and eat lots of food.  So many folk’s health takes a spiraling plung after retirement.  Get him back into hockey or maybe curling both great ice sports!

He seems like a great guy and you two are the right guys to help him be active.

Great workout, guys!!!  I really felt this one in my upper body.

35lb sandbag. 10lb ugly ball.  Walker.  Instead of the box jumps I did a drop it like it’s hot exercise with a push up and jump: push up on ugi ball, lift ugly up and jump, put ball down, jump in front of it, do 3 squat jumps and jump back and start over.

    drop it: 6-5.5
    star burpee: 11.5-11
    3pt jump and reptiles: 10-9
    keg press and lunge: 13-13
    dips and knee raise: 10.5-10
    exploding push ups: 14-11

I then did 10&10×12 of jump lunges and mountain climbers (roooouuugh!).  I closed out with the abs and butt extras from Not Afraid.  I modified the butt ones, though.  I used my balance ball and did butt lifts, butt roll ins and then around the world on the ball.

    abs:
    elbow to floor twist: 16
superman, roll and tuck abs: 8
    V-ups: 23

    butt:
    butt lift on ball: 35
    butt roll-ins on ball: 19
around the world on ball: 18?

Today i did butt and fat loss older workout:http://www.bodyrock.tv/2011/04/22/butt-and-fat-loss-beating-our-personal-bests/ but but but instead of jump rope skips i did 5 chin ups:

    6 rounds of:
    1. Chin ups – 5 (i can do the first 3 unassisted)(I put a bamboo stick between 2 doors, hahah its very stable but its not very comfortable for the hands)
    2. Side jump lunges – 30 reps
    3. One leg squat – 5 each leg (full but with support for balance)

    total time: 20:10 min

then i did an extra round in 3:44 min + 5 one leg squat on leach leg + 600 rep total jump rope skips in sets of 100 as a cooldown.

    great wo!

Hi! ^_^ I was wondering if there were any instructions on how to do these, or alternates? ^_^ I hear Lisa-Marie has been posting wonderful alternatives for these for those who lack the equipment. The only exercise I need replaced is the one with the dip station because nothing in my house is sturdy enough for me to use. ^-^ Also, are there any step-by-step guides on how to do these new moves? I like step by step, so I know I am doing it right.

For the drunk chicken (awesome name XD), do I focus on jumping high and wide, or do I focus on jumping in the air, spreading myself, and focus on landing with my feet back together again? What is the focus of this exercise? I do better with written or audio description than visuals. If someone can answer this, it would be appreciated. =]

      hi azerick

for the dips/knee raise you can use a kitchen chair, sit on edge and bring your knees in for knee rasise then put your feet down and drop your bum off and do a tricep dip.  as for the drunk chicken I think your trying to get as high and wide as possible while still coming back in and landing with feet together and arms in.

      • Azerick

Thank you, and we will see if the kitchen chairs are sturdy enough. :)

And good to know. As it is, I cannot even have my body away from an inch; otherwise, I cannot bring my body back. xPPP

I am looking forward to them giving thorough instructions again. ^_^

Also, thank you so much for your help! Have a lovely day. ^-^

I think (speaking about the short 12 min intervals – not rep challenges…), you should set your timer as it is recommended (mostly 12 rounds with 10 sec rest and 50 sec work) and try to complete it. It doesn´t matter if you can do just one rep in the 50 sec. Just keep going and listen to your boss (= Gymboss ;->). Switch to some easier variation in moment you really can´t push anymore (push ups from knees, instead jumps do steps, forget on sandbag and do bodyweight…) but I would suggest always do the whole workout. Again – speaking about these short high intensity interval trainings, not rep challenges that takes more than 30min…

you’ll hear it over and over again here – just push yourself to your limit (and just a little harder).  the key is that it’s YOUR limit, not anyone else’s.  eventually you’ll develop enough strength and stamina to push a little harder, then harder still.  you have to start somewhere, but at least you’ve started!  and that’s all that matters.

  • Kat<3bodyrocker4life

Wow, that is quite the accomplishment for your Father. And true, that the choice to live a healthy lifestyle is incredibly important for everyone’s longevity. Although, I would argue that you are risking your health when you put foreign substances in it, such as breast implants. However, that’s an individual choice and I know when you train hard as a woman, our girls don’t hold up so well =(. Also, I would like to share with you this amazing piece from 60 Minutes about sugar – http://www.cbsnews.com/video/watch/?id=7403942n&tag=api&fb_ref=belowVideo&fb_source=timeline. It’s a must-watch for you, Lisa, and Sean. Bodyrock on!

    what a beautiful post Frieddy.

Such a beautiful post, Freddy! After I became a Bodyrocker (October 2010), I have become so much more conscious of how fit, strong and amazing our human bodies are. Only after I started bodyrocking, it became truly clear to me, that we can always, ALWAYS push harder and make our bodies perform better. Even at (what we think is) our maximum, a little extra effort can be made. Such a fantastic thing to become aware of.

And I couldn’t thank you, Freddy, Sean, Lisa & Z enough for it!!! Thank you from the bottom of my heart <3

This workout looks like so much fun. I already finished mine for today, but I will rock it out tomorrow morning. Today I did the "Leg Sculpt Mash-up": http://www.bodyrock.tv/2012/03/16/leg-sculpt-mash-up-workout/ and beat my scores.

I added 6 minutes of ABS:
    1) Single Leg Toe Touch: 53.
    2) Ab Chopper: 26.
    3) V-Abs Hold & Super Man Back Turn Hold: 8.
    4) Knee Raises (dip station): 30.
    5) Bicycle Abs: 120.
    6) Chest Lift & Butt Squeeze: 42.

    Plus Lisa's Butt Bonus # 3.

    Enjoy your Tuesday, friends.
    Love, Maria

I agree 100% with you Freddy. I understand completely what you are saying because I see the same thing with my mother. She si 65 and she feels and acts like she is 80! I have told her so many times to come and bodyrock with me so she can feel young and amazing  and that age is in her mind, it´s just a number. I still want to go hiking, running, horseback riding, have fun and feeling great at 80 or 90!! Let´s take care of our bodies and let´s bodyrock until we die !!! Whoooooooooooo hoooooooooooo!!!

  • Bodyrocker_Audra

Ouch Lisa! Those look tender! Hey Freddy! I want and hope to Bodyrock til my body don’t rock no more! Age is just a number lol :D Congrats to your Dad for all the hard work put in ;)
