Circulating around the internet is the dangerously disturbing trend of ‘thinspiration’, a divergence from the traditional ‘fitspiration’, in that it only centers on the state of being thin.  The thigh gap, the hip bones, the collar bones, the shoulder blades, the little protruding bones on your shoulders (apparently they exist…).  The starving look.  It’s very in right now.  Oh wait…it’s been in for decades.

Robyn Lawley isn’t having any of it.  This past year an untouched photo of her appeared on a facebook page that glorifies thinspiration and the thigh gap craze.



This is the photo.  It sparked over 900 hateful comments about how the thighs must belong to a gorilla because no human could possibly have such big thighs.  It got so out of control that Robyn herself decided to put the record straight about her body.


She wrote, “The truth is I couldn’t care less about needing a supposed “thigh gap.” It’s just another tool of manipulation that other people are trying to use to keep me from loving my body. Why would I want to starve and weaken my natural body size? I’m not saying women who have it naturally are unattractive. But I would have to change my entire frame just to achieve something that seems so trivial.  I’ve been trying to do just the opposite: I want my thighs to be bigger and stronger. I want to run faster and swim longer. I suppose we all just want different things, but women have enough pressure as it is without the added burden of achieving a “thigh gap.” The last thing I would want for my future daughter would be to starve herself because she thought a “thigh gap” was necessary to be deemed attractive.”



What an amazing world we would live in if women were allowed (and allowed themselves) to simply be themselves.  To choose the career and lift they want and to look the way that was natural and healthy for themselves.  There isn’t one healthy body type, there are billions of different combinations that make a person healthy and that make a healthy body.  There is only one way to be you though.

So Robyn, I fully back you as another member of the big thigh family.  Or the normal sized thighs as I like to think of them.
