These 11 Healthy Foods Need To Be On Your Grocery List ASAP.

February 27, 2015 3 min read

Eating healthy sounds nice in theory, but the reality is that we usually reach for whatever is closest—which usually happens to be something of the microwaveable or Seamless-deliverable variety. Cue the post-lunch bloat. To make things easier for you, we consulted nutritionist and wellness coach Jessica Sepel, and asked her to simplify our grocery list into only the healthiest essentials. #1 Leafy Greens Screen Shot 2015-02-26 at 7.47.27 PM When it comes to produce, Sepel says greens like kale, spinach, watercress, rocket lettuce, and cabbage are must-haves. “You can throw them in smoothies or use them for salads, and they’re packed with vitamins and nutrients to get you through the day,” she says. The vitamins and nutrients in question? Think fiber, protein, vitamins A, C, and K, folate, and omega-3s. #2 Veggies, veggies and more veggies! Screen Shot 2015-02-26 at 7.48.35 PM You can’t sustain yourself on strictly salads and smoothies, which is where hearty veggies like carrots, eggplant, and Brussels sprouts come in. Sepel recommends stocking up and roasting them as healthy, delicious, and easy side dishes. #3 Lemons Screen Shot 2015-02-26 at 7.50.04 PM Think of lemons are your secret detox weapon. “I always have lemons on hand to squeeze into warm water in the morning,” Sepel says. “It helps alkalize and detoxify your system, plus it fires up your metabolism!” It’s also the perfect garnish for salads, poultry, and fish. #4 Berries Screen Shot 2015-02-26 at 7.50.56 PM Got a sweet tooth? Make sure to buy some fresh berries on your next grocery trip. Sepel says to add blueberries and raspberries to smoothies and oats because they’re low in sugar and packed with antioxidants. Since fresh fruit can get pricey, Sepel says frozen works in a pinch, too. #5 Quinoa  Screen Shot 2015-02-26 at 7.51.50 PM We all know by now that quinoa is the superfood of grains—it’s gluten-free and an amazing source of protein, so it’ll fill you up instantly. Buy a pack (or two) and make a big batch of quinoa salad Sunday night for yummy lunches all week long. #6 Oats Screen Shot 2015-02-26 at 7.53.00 PM Sepel swears by gluten-free oats, which she says make for the perfect hearty breakfast. Or, you can grind them into a flour (for you Martha Stewart types) and use them for baking! #7 Brown Rice Screen Shot 2015-02-26 at 7.54.44 PM And finally, round out the grain section of your grocery list with a healthy pantry staple: brown rice. “It’s inexpensive, easy to prepare, and works with just about any main meal,” Sepel says. “It’s a great gluten-free option, too, which is always a priority for me.” #8 Eggs Screen Shot 2015-02-26 at 7.56.59 PM First up in the protein category? Eggs, obviously. Sepel says thye’re the “perfect package of everything we need to thrive” and the combination of protein and healthy fats makes them unbeatable. #9 Fish Screen Shot 2015-02-26 at 7.58.36 PM When it comes to healthy sources of protein, fish is another great option. “Snapper, cod, and, of course, salmon are a few of my favorites,” says Sepel. “I also think tinned tuna and wild salmon are good option in a pinch—you just don’t want to overdo it because of the mercury.” #10 Chicken (with some Steak) Screen Shot 2015-02-26 at 7.59.08 PM And, of course, we can’t forget our favorite source of lean protein. “I typically keep lean proteins like fish, chicken, and turkey in the house, but I do love a perfectly prepared steak!” Sepel says. “Keep that one on the list for special occasions.” #11 Nuts & Nut Butters Screen Shot 2015-02-26 at 8.02.18 PM Lastly, add healthy pantry staples like raw almonds and seeds, nut butters (almond, cashew, and peanuts are Sepel’s favorites), and hummus. “It’s actually very easy to create your own snacks, like bliss balls and energy bars made with nudes, seeds, and dates,” she says. “I always encourage them over the pre-packaged snacks, and they’re so easy to make!” Making your own version will take out the excess sugar, chemicals, and preservatives, and satisfy your crunch (or sweet) craving. Shipping & Delivery

Due to COVID-19, shipping systems the world over are experiencing abnormal delays. There is an enormous demand on postal and delivery services as online shopping has skyrocketed, due to store closures and stay-at-home mandates. This is an unprecedented situation, and we are working around the clock to fulfill your orders as quickly as possible. To be clear, we are filling orders in 4-6 days, and we are shipping immediately after that. Once shipped, our shipping partner, UPS, will get your order out to you as quickly as possible. Thanks for your support and understanding.

Are you in Canada? Specifically, are you outside of a metropolitan centre? We need to alert you to a disruption in shipping due to COVID-19. Our preferred shipping provider, UPS, has informed us that they cannot guarantee express shipping for many locations. We have also seen that packages delivered to Toronto, Ottawa, Vancouver, etc, are not waylaid, but packages delivered to areas just outside of these cities are being held in transit for days or even weeks. UPS has discontinued their guarantee of 1-4 day delivery, which you can read more about here. Therefore, we can guarantee early fulfillment but not early delivery of our goods from our warehouse to your door at this time.

We want you to start your fitness journey with us as quickly as possible, that’s why we send every package to the USA & Canada via expedited or standard shipping (whichever is faster) with our partners at UPS. Once your order has been processed successfully we try to have your shipment prepared within 4-6 business days, and it typically takes 2-4 days to get to you once it leaves our warehouse.

We currently DO NOT SHIP to locations outside of the US and Canada. We DO NOT ship to a P.O. Box number.

We ship all of our physical products with UPS, from our warehouse location in Kingston, Ontario, Canada. Sometimes delivery can be delayed by circumstances out of our control, like postal & custom delays, back-ordered products or incorrectly entered shipping addresses. If there is a delay at Customs, a representative of UPS may contact you to provide your identification in order to receive your package. Please do this ASAP: Customers will be responsible for any additional shipping fees for failure to provide the required information to release a shipment.

Make sure when checking out and paying for your order that all of your information entered is correct! If you notice a mistake in your address, please try to contact us before your order is processed for shipping to avoid any missed shipments or delays. As soon as we process your order for shipping, you will receive a shipping confirmation email that contains your UPS tracking number. You can head on over to the UPS Website to see where your products are. Note: tracking information may take 1-2 business days to be updated in the UPS system

If you are not home when your package is delivered, BodyRock is NOT responsible if it is stolen. Please contact us if this happens to you and we will provide you with all the information needed to take the next steps.
