3 Reasons You May Be Causing Yourself to Sleep Poorly

A good night's sleep is a necessary thing. But sometimes, it's no easy feat. You toss and turn and when your alarm goes off the next morning, you wonder what you did wrong to deserve another sleepless night. And other times, you wake in the morning feeling proud that you accomplished another eight hours of shut-eye, but still feel groggy and off your game. What's the catch? sleep Here are four things you may be doing wrong: 1. Too much caffeine sleep Coffee in the morning is one thing, but are you filling up your cup throughout the day? If so, then you may be causing yourself poor sleep. "Have you convinced yourself it's because you really like coffee, but actually it's because it helps you feel more alert or awake? A lot of people who rely on coffee, soda, or energy drinks throughout the day actually have a sleep disorder," explains Robert Rosenberg, DO, a sleep medicine specialist and medical director of the Sleep Disorders Center of Prescott Valley, Ariz. Rosenberg. 2. Bathroom breaks Are you waking up three to four times per night to go to the bathroom? This could actually be a result of a sleeping disorder, not a small bladder. "When you're dealing with any condition that wakes you up in the middle of the night, there's a good chance you'll go to the bathroom just because you're awake—not necessarily because you really have to go," says Mier Kryger, MD, a physician and professor at the Yale School of Medicine and editor of Principles and Practice of Sleep Medicine.  3. A short fuse sleep Feeling moody rather regularly? This could be a result of lack of sleep. In fact, a University of Pennsylvania study found that those who received 4.5 hours of sleep a night for a week reported that they felt a greater sense of stress, anger and sadness.
