30 Day BodyRock Challenge: Day #17 & #18
The photo above was taken 5 minutes after I gave birth.
Last night-on my due date- around 7:30 pm, I went into full blown labor! After dinner, I decided to go for a 1.5 mile walk and sure enough, it was my last workout. The pains started getting worse around 8pm and I told my husband very quickly that it was time to head to the hospital.
We arrived at the hospital by 10:30pm last night and was admitted immediately. After a long and intense labor, my son was born at 5:27pm on 02/04/14. He weighed 8lbs and 7oz and measured 22.5 inches long!
Diet: Since I was in labor for 22 hours, I only got to eat one meal-grilled chicken Caesar salad-after I gave birth for my dinner and boy, was it ever amazing (or maybe I was just super hungry!) The hospital has a room service style meal ordering so I planned to order the cleanest meals that they had available.
Workouts: I cannot lift anything heavy or resume strenuous activity until after my 6 week postpartum check up; and no form of exercise for the first two weeks to allow my uterus to heal. I look forward to taking everything slowly; one day at a time.
I feel great postpartum and I believe the 30 Day BodyRock Challenge definitely helped give me the energy to make it through my labor and delivery!
Day 18 Today is day 18 of the challenge and it has been one day since I have given birth to my son. I am still in the hospital recovering and although I am not working out, I am watching what meals I order to try to stick with a clean diet as much as possible (though I am totally missing nutritionist Ciara Foy's recipes). I am surprised at how much I have bounced back after giving birth yesterday. I have lost 15 of the 30 pounds that I gained during my pregnancy, but I still have lots of swelling. I believe that continuing the BodyRock Challenge while pregnant truly helped my labor, delivery, and postpartum recovery greatly! Also, continuing working out as well as clean eating throughout my entire pregnancy has made a huge difference. I am so happy that I did not give up! There were days when I wanted to skip a workout or eat whatever I wanted, trust me! My diet for today (thanks to hospital room service): Breakfast: Bacon & cheese omelette with a small side of oatmeal Lunch: Chicken salad on a croissant with sweet potato fries Dinner: Grilled chicken Caesar salad & chicken noodle soup Snacks: Mid-morning snack was a fresh fruit. Mid-noon snack was a fruit & cheese plate I look forward to getting home tomorrow and resuming my own meals! I will also be utilizing some of the crock pot freezer meals that I have been making & hoarding for the last 3 months.
