4 Ways to Get Rid of Butt Acne
We all want skin that feels like a baby's bottom but sometimes, well, our bottoms feel like anything but. If you find yourself with pimples on your butt, you aren't alone. Debra Jaliman, a New York City-based dermatologist, explains "the bumps are formed by dead skin cells and bacteria in the hair follicles." Yuck. Unfortunately, women who work out are more likely to develop this "buttne" but never fear, here are 4 ways to get rid of it!
1. Use a Benzoyl Peroxide Body Wash
Jaliman recommends using a body wash with benzoyl peroxide. Although this particular ingredient is normally used as a spot treatment for zits, it is key for getting rid of folliculitis since it dries up and sloughs off the dead skin clogging the follicle.
2. Unclog Pores with Salicylic Acid Pads
To prevent future developments by unclogging the pores a few times a week. Use a pad containing salicylic acid. Again salicylic acid is used as a spot treatment for zits but is great for cleansing those pesky butt hair follicles.
3. Use a Lotion with Lactic Acid
You might think slathering yourself in a moisturizing lotion might work against your efforts but you are wrong. Lactic acid can help exfoliate and get rid of those dead skin cells.
4. Always Shower After a Sweat Session
Admit it, you sometimes sit around in your workout clothes after you hit the gym. Jaliman says, "it's best to shower right after a workout so you don't sit around in clothing you've been sweating in that's filled with bacteria." She also recommends a loofah, puff or sonic cleansing brush to remove any sweat, bacteria or dead skin that might be hanging out.
There you have it. Pretty easy answers to a terribly annoying problem. Now we can all be smooth as silk!
