46-Year-Old Woman Faces Off Against 20-Year-Old In Fitness Challenge!
It is supposedly 'natural' for a woman over 40 to lose some of her fitness and agility, but is this really and inevitable fact? Does age really have anything to do with fitness, or can an in-shape older body outperform competitors who are decades younger?
Willow Searle, 22, and Gina Michel, 46, went head-to-head to find the answers to these questions. Gina loves to exercise. She attends weekly classes at the gym to boost her fitness abilities. Willow is very able-bodied as well, being a runner and avidly athletic.
At the start of the challenge, Willow felt like she was in the lead.
"I was feeling quite confident because I knew she was older so I had age on my side." Willow says.
Their first hurdle, a cycling challenge, was easy for Willow at the start. But after a while, she grew tired and Gina took the lead. Gina won that round, attributing her strength and endurance to a lifestyle that focuses on her entire wellbeing and not just exercise.
Gina went on to defeat Willow in the jumping jacks challenge, completing 61 jumps as supposed to Willow's 56. Gina continued to dominate in the sit-up challenge and the plank challenge (holding her position for 2 whole minutes!).

"As you're older you get more muscle maturity and as long as you're working with that and exercising consistently, you can garner exactly the same results if not better." explains Amanda O'Hare, personal trainer. "Everyone thinks you get to a certain age and you're not going to be as strong as your younger counterparts but it's really not true."
"I was over the moon to beat someone half my age." Gina says.
Amanda explains that it is essential to maintain a healthy fitness level in your 20s, 40s and up until your golden years. Anyone at any age will benefit from a solid fitness routine and healthy lifestyle.
What are your thoughts? Would you win a fitness challenge?
