5 Late Night Snacks That Feed Your Craving and Help You Lose Weight
It's passed 10 pm (my cut-off for night eating) but my stomach's rumbling and I could really use a quick snack. We've all been there, right?
Turns out, late night eating isn't as dangerous as you think. But only if you're reaching for the right foods. According to Jen McDaniel of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, eating carbs at night actually aids in sleep, while protein can help build up your muscles even when you're resting. Here are 5 yummy snacks that really satisfy without stacking up the calories!
#1 Cottage Cheese and Pineapple
½ cup cottage cheese mixed with ¼ cup pineapple
Tropical and refreshing, pineapples prevent macular degeneration (vision loss) while boosting the immune system. Pair them with protein-packed cottage cheese for the perfect treat!
#2 Yogurt with Fresh Blueberries
¾ cup plain yogurt topped with ½ cup blueberries
Low cal, nutrient loaded and so tasty! Blueberries are fibre-fueled so they quickly relieve your hunger pains. And don't forget all the probiotic benefits found in yogurt.
#3 Banana with Nut Butter
1 banana spread with 1 Tbsp nut butter
Nut butter is rich in fibre and protein, while low in calories. Bananas are very filling, plus high in antioxidants and detoxifying.
#4 Nut Butter on Toast
1 slice whole-grain raisin toast spread with 1 Tbsp nut butter
Protein packed nut butter coupled with fibre-filled whole grain bread makes the perfect crunchy cravings buster!
#5 Pitas and Hummus
½ whole-grain pita spread with hummus
Hummus is amazingly delicious, but also so rich in protein and iron which helps keep those trying to lose weight full and happy!
