5 Solutions For Excess Skin After Extreme Weight Loss

Congratulations, you did it! You made the necessary dietary changes and sweated your weight away at the gym! You've hit your weight loss goal and feel incredible. There is just one problem, your skin didn't snap into shape with the rest of your body. But don't lose heart, there are a few things you can do to help yourself out. Here are 5 ways to manage your loose skin after major weight loss.

1. Embrace the weights

While lifting weights won't get rid of excess skin, working on muscle tone can help you appear more taut. And the heavier you lift, the better. "Don't be afraid to lift heavy weights; it takes a lot less time to achieve the same degree of muscle with heavier weights, and the quicker I built muscle, the faster I toned up," says Kelly Coffey, a personal trainer who underwent gastric bypass and lost 170 pounds. To be on the safe side, ask for some professional help when you're first starting this plan. Get guidance on your form and lifting safety.

2. Update your support system

A great bra and underwear can help a lot, according to Claudine DeSola, stylist at Caravan Stylist Studios in New York. "Good intimates are a great way of helping conceal excess skin in the belly area," says DeSola. Look for bras with front closures and thicker bands which create a cleaner, smoother look across the back. 3. Come out of hiding

DeSola recommends having a little fun with form fitting layers. "A slightly fitted tee with a sweater on top and a thick belt is a great way to cinch your waist," says DeSola. Mid-rise jeans, ones that hit right below the belly button are also a great option. If you are looking to be a little sassier than that, try a wrap dress in a bold colour. 4. Ditch the negativity

Wear your extra skin like a badge of honour. You made a commitment to losing weight and living a healthier life, your skin is proof that you succeeded. And think about it, you've succeeded where so many people have failed! "Excess skin isn't the terrible tragedy that so many of us think it will be; it's just another one of the details about your body that makes you you," says Coffey. Just be proud of yourself.

5. Make like a snake

Unfortunately, the only way to actually get rid of excess skin is to have surgery. If you have tried all other options and are still unhappy or if your skin is becoming irritated, it may be time to do a consult with a plastic surgeon. "Because the skin has stretched over so many years, it's very difficult for that skin to go back to where it was before; it will not return to its natural consistency or elasticity," says Raul Rosenthal, MD, president of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery. According to him, patients who undergo plastic surgery after extreme weight loss experience a better quality of life and are more likely to keep the weight off. Due to COVID-19, shipping systems the world over are experiencing abnormal delays. There is an enormous demand on postal and delivery services as online shopping has skyrocketed, due to store closures and stay-at-home mandates. This is an unprecedented situation, and we are working around the clock to fulfill your orders as quickly as possible. To be clear, we are filling orders in 4-6 days, and we are shipping immediately after that. Once shipped, our shipping partner, UPS, will get your order out to you as quickly as possible. Are you in Canada? Specifically, are you outside of a metropolitan centre? We need to alert you to a disruption in shipping due to COVID-19. Our preferred shipping provider, UPS, has informed us that they cannot guarantee express shipping for many locations. We have also seen that packages delivered to Toronto, Ottawa, Vancouver, etc, are not waylaid, but packages delivered to areas just outside of these cities are being held in transit for days or even weeks. UPS has discontinued their guarantee of 1-4 day delivery, which you can read more about here. Therefore, we can guarantee early fulfillment but not early delivery of our goods from our warehouse to your door at this time.

 

We want you to start your fitness journey with us as quickly as possible, that’s why we send every package to the USA & Canada via expedited or standard shipping with our partners at UPS. Once your order is received and processed, it typically takes 2-4 days to get to you once it leaves our warehouse. That’s our commitment and we stand by it.

We ship within Canada and the United States via UPS with Standard & Expedited shipping (whichever is faster)

For locations outside of the US and Canada, we ship using FedEx International (EUROPE and Other Nations), which is usually in transit for 7-10 business days, depending on location.

We ship all of our physical products with UPS, from our warehouse location in Kingston, Ontario, Canada. Delays caused due to custom withholds are not included in these estimated delivery times.

Returns & Exchanges

BodyRock Equipment

We offer a 30-day return policy, as long as: it is not more than 30 days past the date of delivery; and your item is in its original condition and packaging with the original order number. Refunds will be issued when the equipment is received back to the BodyRock warehouse, minus the original cost of shipping, and the customer is responsible for the costs of return shipping. To request a refund on physical product purchases, please contact us.

Digital Products

We cannot issue refunds on digital goods such as e-books or videos, as these are non-tangible goods that are irrevocable once the order is placed.
