5 Unexpected Symptoms of Dehydration You Need to Know
Being dehydrated can reek havoc on your body, and cause some odd symptoms you may not expect. Dehydration goes far beyond feeling a little thirsty, and can cause bigger health effects down the road. Here are 5 symptoms associated with lack of water:
#1 Bad Breath
When you're dehydrated, your saliva amount is decreased. The less saliva, the more bacteria can creep in and hang out inside your mouth. These bad breath germs are responsible for that rank smell of halitosis.
#2 Decreased Athletic Performance
The less water you're pumping into your body, the more your performance suffers. Being just 2% dehydrated can lead to a 10% drop in stamina, preventing you from pushing yourself in your workout. It's important to drink water throughout your gym sesh so that your joints and muscles remain functioning properly.
#3 Unsafe Driving
A recent study showed that more driving-related errors occurred when participants were dehydrated as opposed to when they were drinking water. It's common for people to skimp on drinking prior to a long car ride so they don't have to stop and use the washroom, but it can be more dangerous to do so then to maintain your regular hydration level.
#4 Grumpiness
H2O can actually impact your mood level. Without water, you can become irritated, unfocused and even fatigued.
#5 Muscle Cramps
Improper fluid intake can decrease your circulation and cause painful cramping in your muscles. Again, it is super important to drink water during any form of exercise to prevent these pains.
