If you find your metabolism a little sluggish (or are just looking for a boost), do these 5 things to get it working for you from morning to night.
1. Eat Produce at Every Meal
Fruits and veggies take some effort to chew, making your mouth work harder. They are also generally high in fiber which takes more energy to digest. Eat them in their natural state and you could see up to a 10% increase in your calorie burn. Not a bad deal.
2. Don't Skimp on Lean Protein
Include lean protein at every meal if you can. Protein, like fiber, requires more energy to digest and as a bonus, it keeps you feeling full and satisfied longer so you aren't as likely to eat as much or find yourself snacking.

3. Push Yourself
Before every meal or snack, get on the floor and do 20-50 push ups (choose the number that fits your strength level). Short bursts of exercise can have an afterburn of 200 calories through the day. AND lean muscle burns more fat. Win-win.
4. Sip Green Tea or Water
Green tea can boost your resting metabolism by 4% or 80 calories a day. It contains catechins, a metabolism boosting antioxidant. If you don't like green tea, sip on water. It will keep you from becoming dehydrated which can slow your metabolism.
5. Rest Easy
We all know that stress can lead to high calorie snacking but did you know that it can also slow your metabolism? It is important to take time of your day to just stop. Just stop and breathe. If you have a desk job, meditating might not be the best route as sitting for long periods can reduce fat burning enzymes in your body by up to 90%. So, get up and do something. Dance to your favourite song, go for a brisk 5 minute walk or move through a yoga sequence. Whatever you can do to get moving will only benefit you.
