5 Ways To Begin Preparing For Your New Year's Resolutions NOW

Here we are, 2015 is rapidly coming to an end. This means people are starting to think about all the things they want to do to better themselves in 2016. It is common to make resolutions related to health and fitness. Incredibly common. What is less common is actually preparing for those health and fitness resolutions. It is natural to think you can wait until the first of the year to start, but if you don't start planning now, you're setting yourself up for failure! Here are 5 simple things you can do to get started on your resolutions this very moment!

1. Find a workout you like.

What exercise do you want to do? Seems like a silly question but when it comes to sticking with a routine, it is an important one. Look for a trainer or go online and find some workout routines that fit into your goals and lifestyle. If you don't like running, you don't have to run. If you like yoga, find a studio that offers classes 3 to 5 times a week. Whatever you find, remember, consistency is key!

2. Set realistic, specific goals.

If your resolution is to "lose weight," you'll have to be more specific than that. How much do you want to lose? Want to build muscle? How many inches do you hope to lose? If you are completely lost on what to do, find a trainer and set up a consult. It is always important to make sure that your goals jive with your current skill levels. If you want to run a half marathon, don't plan to do so withing months if you are brand new to running. If you've never worked out a day in your life, find something like this workout that is designed for beginners. If you start out doing something that is too advanced, you'll lose any and all motivation. Being realistic is hard when you are also feeling optimistic but it is important. If you want to lose 50 pounds, for example, it is important to give yourself enough time to do that. Don't plan on doing it in 3 months time. Don't make your tasks any more difficult than they already are. Find what works for you and your lifestyle.

3. Pay for it now.

Don't wait until January. Find a gym, studio or program that you like and pay for it within the next two weeks. Now you can work on getting your head prepared for the follow through. Get yourself some new workout gear and equipment. Maybe buy a new yoga mat or some new dumbbells. Add some of these items to your Christmas wish list and maybe friends and family can help you out. Get excited about it now and come January, you will be dying to get out there! n-NEW-YEARS-RESOLUTION-large570

4. Ask for help.

Don't be afraid to reach out in the beginning. If you just wander aimlessly around the gym, you'll never see the results you want. See if your gym has a trainer on staff. You can get a program designed to meet your needs and goals. Join a community. Support and accountability go a long way in helping your stick to your plan. If you are uncomfortable with the gym setting, join a community like ours, here at BodyRock. There is an entire global network of BodyRockers doing the programs, which are hosted by trainers who know what's what. There are too many resources out there for you to ignore. 5. Don't overdo it this month.

It is easy to tell yourself that since you will be getting healthy in January, you are going to enjoy yourself now. The more distance you have to travel to reach your goals, the more difficult it will be. If your goal weight is  20 pounds from where you are now but you gain 10 pounds over the month of December, that's an extra 10 pounds of work you've added to your resolution. You don't have to lock yourself up and avoid all the holiday fun, just be moderate in your consumption. Eat small portions, stick to healthier options when available and don't overdo it with the alcohol. Why wait until January to treat yourself right? Follow these tips now so when the clock strikes midnight, your head is in the game and you're prepared to get down to business! How do you plan to prepare for your New Year's resolutions?
