560 Pound Man Bikes Across The United States To Save His Marriage And His Life

Eric Hites is biking coast to coast. That is, he's biking 3200 miles! Inspired by the popular song "I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles)" by The Proclaimers, he is keeping track of his journey on Instagram and his blog Fat Guy Across America. He writes: "I blame the Proclaimers I really do. I will be riding a bicycle from east coast to west coast for a few reasons, 1. to prove things to my wife and my love. 2. to take back my health and to lose the pounds I have collected over the years." Hites and his wife separated last year, which gave him his drive and his opportunity. Once making his plan and beginning his journey in Martha's Vineyard, his wife got in touch.
"She said, "you are really on the Vineyard? " I said "yeah, I told you I had to change my life to change my future and build to prove that I really adore you." She said that was the most romantic thing anyone has ever done."
They are now back together and he is making his way to California. Hites sleeps in a tent each night and reports having lost 50 pounds already! "I get to lose weight and have fun doing it," said Hites, who is also interviewing people he meets along the way. "It's all about the journey." At the end of this, he's thinking of writing a book. What a bold, brave move! Stay with it, Eric! What sort of life experiences prompted you to take control of your life and make a dramatic change? Share your tale with us!
