6 DIY Stinky Shoe Solutions

Okay, I’ve got a problem, and I’m hoping I’m not the only one. My shoes smell RANK. Like, I could gas a room if it was fairly enclosed. The shoes in question are really comfy moccasins, that I rarely wear with socks because it’s summer and my feet would overheat, I even have insoles in them, and I clean my feet - I SWEAR, but to no avail. So I’m on the search for ways to de-stink my shoes, and here are the top 6 tips that I’ve collected to solve my stinky shoe setback: 1. Use fabric softener sheets – roll up a couple of dryer sheets into balls and stuff them in your shoes to wick moisture and hopefully give off their fresh scent. 2. Citrus peel – use orange, grapefruit, lemon, or lime peel in your shoes to impart that fresh citrus smell that doesn’t smell like a gym locker room. 3. Freeze your shoes – put shoes in a plastic bag and keep them in the freezer overnight to kill the bacteria responsible for stinking up the place. stinky-Shoes-Step-04   4. Baking soda – sprinkle baking soda into your shoes and let absorb overnight, just be sure to shake them out before wearing them, or put the baking soda in a sock before putting it in your shoes to avoid a white dusty mess. 5. Newspaper – stuff shoes with newspaper to dry them out 6. Alcohol – swab shoes with a cotton ball soaked in alcohol, it will dry out the odor and evaporate quickly, unlike cleaning out your shoes with water. You could also use vinegar, although the smell is a bit strong. I’ll be trying out each one of these, as well as a good foot soak and scrub, but I’m curious to know if there are any other good tips out there, or if these methods I’ve mentioned have worked for anyone else.
