650-Pound Food Addict Lost A Third Of Her Body Weight After Gastric Surgery
With the help of gastric bypass surgery, in just 12 months, Nikki Webster has achieved incredible levels of weight loss. While she is pleased with this progress, she says she's far from finished. Buoyed by these initial results, Webster considers herself only halfway to her target.
Before her surgery, the simplest tasks in life were difficult for her. Standing and washing herself were near impossible. Webster says, "My weight is debilitating. My body is so painful, I hate it. But I say this to myself. Food is an addiction to me and my addiction is killing me." After travelling 8 hours for a consultation, she learned that she would have to lose 50 pounds before the surgery could even take place. It took 3 months, but she got there and the surgery went ahead.

Before the procedure, Webster admitted to being a food addict. Despite fearing that it would cost her her life, she could not stop binge eating. "I've done this to myself," she says. Because of her weight, Webster lives with her parents who enable her addiction. "When I start my day, I can't wait to start eating," she explains. "My mom or dad will make me a plate and send it up to me so I don't have to go downstairs until breakfast."
To make sure that she didn't regain any weight she'd lost, Webster met with a therapist. As many of us know, our desire to eat food can have significant and deep-rooted emotional triggers. If you do not address these, the harmful cycle will likely continue.
While she hasn't reached her target, Webster should be commended for the work she's put in so far. It won't be easy, but it sounds like she's got everything moving in the right direction! She's given herself a real chance at having a life!
