8 Coconut Oil Hacks To Help You Eat Even Healthier
The benefits of cooking with coconut oil is no secret nowadays. That being said, why not use it to spice up more than just your average stir fry?
Below are some fun ideas to try in the kitchen to make some of your favourite "treats" even better for you!
Wing Addict
Coat chicken wings with a mix of 1/2 cup of Coconut Oil, 1/2 cup hot sauce, 2 tsp garlic powder, and 1 tbsp white vinegar for a sweet and spicy zing that brings health benefits to your wings.
Granola Bear
If you love your granola, try replacing the vegetable oil with coconut oil when baking it. Not only does it taste great, but it helps encourage the formation of those crunchy clusters that we all know and love!
Get It Rice
White rice just became acceptable again! Latest research at American Chemical Society’s national meeting says boiling rice with coconut oil and then refrigerating it for 12 hours can slash the rice's calories by as much as 60 percent. The combination of fat and cold converts some of the rice's digestible starch into non-digestible starch, so your body absorbs less calories. THANK YOU SCIENCE
Smoothie Criminal
Add coconut oil to your morning smoothie for a creamy thickener (not to mention a semi-tropical-esque escape) The oil adds texture to the smoothie similar to almond butter or yogurt.
Thyme Hack
If you didn't already know, freezing fresh herbs in ice cube trays preserves them for later use in cooking. Already a fan, try this on for size! Add fresh herbs to ice cube trays, melt coconut oil in the microwave for 20 to 60 seconds, pour it into the trays, then freeze until firm. Store in the refrigerator and pop out for quickly adding flavour to your favourite dishes!
We All Scream For Ice Cream
Okay okay, not exactly "healthy" but too good to not include! Melt and mix coconut oil with a dash of vanilla extract and drizzle over ice cream, sorbet, or a smoothie for an all-natural "magic shell". (Yes, the same kind we loved as kids) Top with mangos for a piña colada style treat. YUM.
Salad King (or queen!)
Bored of balsamic and olive oil? Try combining coconut oil, vinegar, sea salt, black pepper and a dash of honey. The dressing works especially well on salads with fruit!
