8 Famous Women Who Are Redefining Girl Power!
2015 has become the year of girl power. Women everywhere are kicking ass and taking names, from female fighter Ronda Rousey to outspoken supermodel Cara Delevinge. Check out these 8 amazing role models who are breaking the mold:
#1 Whitney Cummings
This favourite funny girl always looks stunning, but she totally blew us away when she stated that gaining 25 pounds made her feel incredible! A great reminder to listen to your body and do what is right for your health, regardless of societal 'rules'.
"I gained like 25 pounds, which I think I needed to. I was way too skinny before. Here's the thing: When you're on television, you get confused. I looked like I was passing away and I think it filled out... People think I got a facelift." says Whitney.
#2 Ronda Rousey
Her name has been on the lips of everyone lately. The media can't get enough of this woman who has helped bring female fighting to the mainstream. She has spoken out about her struggles with eating disorders, body shaming and her lack of fear in taking one of the best boxers of all time, Floyd Mayweather.
#3 Kerry Washington
We love Kerry's grace and eloquence, and her determination to live a fit lifestyle. She has spoken candidly about working out her 'post baby bod' recently which trumps everything you've heard about how new moms should look.
"I've been really focused on not being 'back' to anything, but being the best version of myself right now. My body is the site of a miracle now. I don't want to be pre-miracle." says the Scandal star.
#4 Sandra Bullock
America's sweetheart, Sandra, scored a lead film role that was supposed to be played by a man. The character was re-envisioned after the award-winning actress slayed the audition! Her amazing talent and total confidence is an inspiration to all females in the movie industry.
#5 Kiran Ghandi
Kiran became a viral sensation after free-bleeding through a marathon. She woke up on race day with her period, but didn't let that slow her down. She went sans tampon through a four hour race and became an anti-period shaming legend!
"I have this vision that if men had their period, because we are in a male-privileging society, that rules would be written into the workplace, rules would be written into the social fabric that enable men to take a moment when they need to or enable people to talk about their periods openly." says Kiran.
#6 Anne Lorimor
At 85, Anne was not prepared to live the quiet life of a retiree. The great grandmother embarked on a hike up Mt. Kilimanjaro and was the oldest person ever to reach the summit. The adventure also raised money for unprivileged children. Hats off to Anne!
#7 Kristen Griest and Shaye Haver
These women are officially the first females ever to successfully complete the U.S. Army's Ranger School at Fort Benning, GA. Because the government does not permit it, these women will not be able to join infantry, armour or special forces units. But the completion of training has reached government officials and raised debate over whether the laws need to change!
#8 Cara Delevinge
Cara has become the it girl of fashion, but she's taking a totally new career pathway. She's hanging up her Victoria's Secret wings and her catwalk heels for acting. Her confidence in her career choice speaks volumes for why doing what you love is all that matters in life!
"Modeling just made me feel a bit hollow after a while. It didn't make me grow at all as a human being."
