8 Things No Gluten-Free Person Wants to Hear (EVER)

April 12, 2014 3 min read

If you are gluten intolerant, or have celiac disease, then the chances are that you will have heard every one of these at some point in your life. I believe that the awkward questions stem from people feeling uncomfortable because they don't fully understand, but I have to admit that at times it's difficult not to burst out laughing. These are 8 things that will either infuriate anyone who's gluten-free, or will have them in fits of laughter. "Oh! I was thinking of trying that diet too!" Annoyed-woman-small Although the gluten-free diet has attracted many people who don't need to live a gluten-free lifestyle for their health, the majority of people on a gluten-free diet are not doing so because they think it will help them to lose weight. Being gluten intolerant, or a coeliac, it is a very uncomfortable, often painful, experience if they eat gluten. It is NOT a diet. It's a lifestyle change because their bodies can not tolerate gluten.   "You are such a picky eater!" Absurdly Small Diet Meal This is possibly the most common thing said to anyone who is gluten-free because they always have to ask what ingredients are in recipes, or pack what might appear to be strange things for lunch. If they are asking for a 100% beefburger without the bun it is because they can't eat bread. If they request salad without the dressing it's because most sauces contain hidden gluten. It is not being a picky eater; it's trying to avoid the pain that they experience when they've eaten gluten by mistake.   "Why don't you just try a bit, and see how you get on?" rhoa-phaedra-annoyed-at-apollo If someone has been advised by a doctor to follow a gluten-free diet then it is a permanent change. Your body can't just suddenly stop being intolerant to something; particularly not if you've stopped eating it. Once you cut something out of your diet it actually becomes even harder to reintroduce it, so yes, just one sandwich will hurt. In many cases even a crumb will hurt. No, they are absolutely sure they don't want to just try.   "But all of the best foods have gluten in them!" IMG_1144 Yes, most of them do. All that this statement does is simply remind anyone who's gluten-free of what they are missing out on...as if they weren't already aware.   "So what exactly can you eat? Just celery?" Confused-woman This always makes me laugh; celery is gluten-free yes, but there are many other foods that are acceptable on a gluten-free diet. Although it's restrictive, it's not THAT restrictive. There are many gluten-free foods available, and many foods are even naturally gluten-free.   "Would you like some cake/a cookie?" crash-diet People who are gluten-free are aware that this is often simply a slip-up because the person offering has forgotten that they are gluten-free, and that's totally understandable because people do forget things, but it doesn't mean that it feels any less like a slap across the face. Although it gets easier with time, it is always hard to watch someone offer you something you can't have.   "I would literally die if I couldn't eat gluten!" df6f511df04e44b0dca49f95ed98fbaea5531a33869c325b3fe6008bc8da45a4 In some very rare, but very severe cases of coeliac disease this could actually be a possibility, so it's not the best thing to say.   "What actually happens to you if you eat gluten?" Just-google-it Most gluten-free people don't mind being asked this, although it does become irritating after a while. If you are interested in what happens when someone who is unable to tolerate gluten eats it, then please Google it, because the chances are that the person you are asking has already been asked that exact question countless times. (plus it could be gross)   Check out my recent post on my blog debunking some gluten-free myths.

Shipping & Delivery

Due to COVID-19, shipping systems the world over are experiencing abnormal delays. There is an enormous demand on postal and delivery services as online shopping has skyrocketed, due to store closures and stay-at-home mandates. This is an unprecedented situation, and we are working around the clock to fulfill your orders as quickly as possible. To be clear, we are filling orders in 4-6 days, and we are shipping immediately after that. Once shipped, our shipping partner, UPS, will get your order out to you as quickly as possible. Thanks for your support and understanding.

Are you in Canada? Specifically, are you outside of a metropolitan centre? We need to alert you to a disruption in shipping due to COVID-19. Our preferred shipping provider, UPS, has informed us that they cannot guarantee express shipping for many locations. We have also seen that packages delivered to Toronto, Ottawa, Vancouver, etc, are not waylaid, but packages delivered to areas just outside of these cities are being held in transit for days or even weeks. UPS has discontinued their guarantee of 1-4 day delivery, which you can read more about here. Therefore, we can guarantee early fulfillment but not early delivery of our goods from our warehouse to your door at this time.

We want you to start your fitness journey with us as quickly as possible, that’s why we send every package to the USA & Canada via expedited or standard shipping with our partners at UPS. Once your order is received and processed, it typically takes 2-4 days to get to you once it leaves our warehouse. That’s our commitment and we stand by it.

We ship within Canada and the United States via UPS with Standard & Expedited shipping (whichever is faster)

For locations outside of the US and Canada, we ship using FedEx International (EUROPE and Other Nations), which is usually in transit for 7-10 business days, depending on location.

We ship all of our physical products with UPS, from our warehouse location in Kingston, Ontario, Canada. Delays caused due to custom withholds are not included in these estimated delivery times.

Returns & Exchanges

BodyRock Equipment

We offer a 30-day return policy, as long as: it is not more than 30 days past the date of delivery; and your item is in its original condition and packaging with the original order number. Refunds will be issued when the equipment is received back to the BodyRock warehouse, minus the original cost of shipping, and the customer is responsible for the costs of return shipping. To request a refund on physical product purchases, please contact us.

Digital Products

We cannot issue refunds on digital goods such as e-books or videos, as these are non-tangible goods that are irrevocable once the order is placed.

All of the BodyRock clothing is made to order and so is final sale. If you have any questions about sizing prior to placing your order, please contact us.
