9 Major Warning Signs of Cervical Cancer You Need To Know

Cervical cancer is caused by HPV (Human Papillomavirus), a virus transmitted through skin to skin genital contact. HPV is common, so it is important to get a regular pap smear to detect it. It can cause abnormal cell changes which result in genital cancers, most commonly cervical cancer. This form of cancer has a 68% survival rate, but if caught in it's earliest stages, that rate increases to 91%. Here are the 9 major warning signs to look for when it comes to cervical cancer: #1 Pain During Sex An unusual onset of discomfort during sexual intercourse could be a red flag. #2 Loss of Bladder Control The bladder is an area of the body which cervical cancer can spread to. Another sign to look for is a slight hint of blood in your urine. #3 Urinary Discomfort This could be just a urinary tract infection, but it is always smart to have it ruled out that is not a warning sign. #4 Abnormal Vaginal Bleeding If you are bleeding between periods, after sex or you are post-menopausal, this can be a major red flag. #5 Abnormal Vaginal Discharge Discharges are common and can be attributed to yeast infections or just certain times of the month. But if you experience one that is particularly strong smelling, bloody or brownish than contact your doctor. #6 Body Pain Pelvic pain, or pain in the legs and back are most frequently associated with cervical cancer. If pain comes on suddenly and is severe, this could be a warning sign. #7 Unexplained Weight Loss The presence of cancer can speed up the process of fat burning at a very high and unusual rate. #8 Tiredness If you are feeling constantly fatigued and experience any other symptoms listed, see your doctor. #9 Longer Periods If your periods become increasingly heavier and last longer, this could be for many reasons. But ruling out cancer is the most important first step. What are your thoughts? Share them with us! Do you follow us on Instagram?
