9 Surprising Healthy Foods You Didn't Know You Could Grill!
Mmm...nothing smells better than the BBQ fired up on a nice summer evening. But sticking to burgers and wieners can get boring (especially if you're a herbivore like me, your grill options can seem very limited). Here are 9 surprising summer favourites to try on your grill to keep your backyard party fun, fresh and exciting!
Mains:
1 - Oysters
Place them on the grill flat side up for about 5 minutes and you've got yourself a new summer favourite!
2 - Clams
Mix some clams in with your grilled oysters for a seafood themed backyard get-together. Brush the shells with olive oil and grill them up for about 2 minutes or until the shells open!
3 - Pizza
Brush your dough (either homemade or store bought) with olive oil and throw it on the grill for until marks appear. Take it off and top it with peppers, mushrooms, goat cheese, chicken or whatever you love and grill it another 3 minutes. Then dig in!
Sides:
1 - Avocado
This amazingly healthy food is totally grill-able! Half it, leave the skin on, take out the seed, coat with olive oil and grill it cut side down for 5 minutes. Top with Greek yogurt and salsa!
2 - Zucchini
Slice a market fresh zucchini into rounds, season it with olive oil and some basil and grill for 5 minutes on each side! Leave it on a little longer to get a nice crunchiness.
3 - Fries
Cut potatoes into wedges, toss with coconut or olive oil and grill for 10 minutes on each side. To amp up the healthiness factor, try sweet potatoes for a delicious alternative.
Fruity Treats:
1 - Watermelon
Never worry about watermelon slush getting on your new white sundress. Brush a slice with olive oil and grill it for 3 minutes on each side. Squirt on some lemon juice and top with Greek yogurt!
2 - Berries
Put a little lemon on your favourite berry mix (blueberries and raspberries are my favourite) and put the mix in aluminium foil (sealing the sides). Place on the grill for at medium for 10 minutes. Serve this treat with ice cream or frozen yogurt!
3 - Peaches
Half a peach, rub with butter, grill butter side down with the grill closed for about 4 minutes on each side. Top this succulently softened fruit with ice cream for a refreshing treat!
