Arizona Cardinals Make History of a Different Kind – First Female Coach in NFL
Dr. Jen Welter, Ph.D. becomes the first ever female to coach an NFL team.
It was announced on Monday that Welter would intern as a coach for the Arizona Cardinals during their preseason, working closely with inside linebackers.
Head coach, Bruce Arians, says the team is “all very cool with it.”
Welter has previously played in both men’s and women’s professional football leagues including the Texas Revolution last year as a running back.
Jen took to twitter to celebrate the news:
"I am honoured to be a part of this amazing team.”
She was congratulated by many, including the NFL:
“Congrats Jen Welter, who joins the @AZCardinals as a training camp/preseason intern, coaching inside linebackers!” — NFL (@NFL) July 28, 2015
This superstar athlete is changing the game for future women in sports.
At only 37, Welter has many accomplishments under her belt, including winning gold as a member of Team USA at the International Federation of American Football's Women's World Championship in 2010 and 2013 and has an incredible career still ahead of her.
Talk about girl power!
